ok, so, alterhuman is an umbrella term for anyone who doesn't feel 100% human. it encompasses identities such as:

otherkin ("A nonhuman creature, such as Dragons, Fae or Elves. Also used as an umbrella term to describe Otherkin, Fictionkin, and Therians. Some choose to use it just as an umbrella term [for alterhumanity]." i blatantly ripped this from the internet because i didn't know how to explain it. depends on who you ask, YMMV)

therianthropy (often shortened to "therian". usually used to refer to identifying as a real-life animal of some sort. common to see people have a spiritual connection to said identity, but not required)

otherhearted (having some sort of bond with a species, does not have to be a real animal)

endelity (nonhumanity influenced in some form or fashion by delusion and/or psychosis)

many, many others such as constelic, synpath, copinglink, etc.

hey hey, i scrolled through this blog a bit recently and got a bit confused because i'm not sure about the difference between synpath and otherhearted .

some say there isn't really a difference and others say there is.

so this isn't a question for you specifically but i thought it would reach more people to ask it here. hope you don't mind.

(also i'd like to learn more about others experiences because for some reason it's hard to find more information on synpath/otherhearted.)

I know that synpath refers exclusively to the thing identified with and not the holder of the identity, so it's more like "hearttype" than it is "otherhearted". But yeah from what I can tell, there is no consensus about whether or not having synpaths is the same as being otherhearted. I have heard some say they are the same and I have heard others say that one only need identify with one particular part/aspect of their synpath, or that synpaths are less intense.

If you have synpaths, please share your thoughts! (And anyone else who is familiar with how both terms are used in practice is welcome to chime in as well, of course.)

Icosahuman / Multialtertype

A term for an alterhuman who identifies with their alterhuman identity in many or all of the possible ways.

Examples of identities which may be icosahuman:

Lacking personal distinction between types of alterhumanity.

Having multiple interpretations of one's alterhumanity.

Being both kin and copinglink due to clinging to one's kin as a coping mechanism.

Being a fictive or extranthrope who also identifies with other alterhuman terminology.

An alterhuman with fluidity in their type of identity, such as sometimes being kin and sometimes being hearted.

And more!

It is intended for those who are multiple kinds of alterhuman regarding a single identity (ex. being foxkin and a fox copinglink), rather than those who have multiple alterhuman identities of different types. Someone with multiple alterhuman identities who has singular identities of multiple types is also included.

Hey so is there a term for when you identify strongly with something (ex. a dog), but don't feel like you are that thing? Cause everything I've seen about therian/otherkin/alterhuman/etc says that part of the experience is feeling like/believing you are the thing, whether that be in a spiritual or psychological sense. I don't believe I am a dog, but I identify strongly with them and wish I could do dog things and have a dog tail n stuff. Is there a term for this?

You cannot without hypocrisy say that with queer labels it’s everyone chooses what feels best for them and identity does not have to be about shared experience it’s about identity and then turn around and say that altbeing labels must be rigidly defined, that if your experience does not fit some rigid definition of a label (which with some of them I haven’t even seen the community remotely agree on) you must use another and not even dare to claim some similarity even if you also have experiences that do fit that definition, etc.
