Gonna be honest with you though if someone outright says “don’t ship my character with other people” or something to that extent regarding smut or whatever I don’t think there should be any ambiguity

I get your point about the nature of fanfic being inherently encroaching upon people’s images so that levity should be extended to otherwise uncommon avenues but I really believe hardline boundaries should be respected, end of, no discussion. If I see people violating creators’ boundaries for their characters Or themselves (and these can be intertwined, it’s not up to the audience to pick apart their boundaries, cuz I’ve seen people try to do that) I’m not going to judge them fairly and I feel like neither should you.

Lines can be crossed and intimacy (not even necessarily romantic!) is a very different monster than the other avenues of storytelling because of how it involves real life relationships seeping into character relationships. Its’s uncommon for people to be like “I wrote A’s character being tortured because I feel like A is tortured in real life” but they Can and Often do that with ship work. So I don’t know, I feel like you’re not affording this the right nuance.

Alright, so, this is another post I'm gonna slap with a discourse and long post warning right away, buckle in.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, and this is not an uncommon opinion to have! It's still the opinion of twitter/x so far as I know, and I think it's probably the opinion of the bulk of dsmp fans here, as well. I know my posts get notes once they start circulating in hermitblr, but I don't kid myself that I have the majority view. I am posting to explain my views expressly because I know a lot of people don't agree with me!

And in this case we do have a difference of opinion. There's two sort of points as I see it in your posts— we have hardline boundaries about shipping/nsfw from some people, and everyone in the fandom should be abiding by those no exceptions or be thrown out of the fandom; and we have shipping boundaries but not boundaries for other things because shipping is uniquely boundary-crossing and terrible and invasive, in contrast to anything else we can do in fandom.

Taking the second part first, I just don't think that's true. Let's not forget, boundaries discourse started with SMPLive and SMPronpa, and it was not the shipping that caused the discussion, it was the death games. The first real fandom reckoning we had with the notion of boundaries as mcyt fandom was over gore and murder and portraying people in violent ways. Shipping was barely a blip on the radar. The way the discourse has developed now, shipping is framed as the absolute worst thing anyone could ever do with your public image, and everything else is fine, but that is not the case for everyone. Recently the Pirates SMP creators were asked repeatedly for their boundaries (bothered on twitter, really) until they gave them and thus we saw people being fine with shipping but not wanting family dynamic, or being against both shipping and gore, or being fine with shipping but not wanting to be gender bent or trans headcanoned, etc. Not everyone feels the same way about the same things, despite the us-american cultural viewpoint that romance and sexualization is uniquely bad but gore and torture is fine, that everything else is fine.

Like, if we're looking at DSMP, I think there are a lot of creators who would feel just as strongly if not stronger about fics in which their character died of a terminal illness than they would about a fic in which they kiss someone, for understandable reasons. But I see those tropes in the tags regularly!

I think if we are honest with ourselves, if we are going to hardline boundaries about things that are uniquely invasive or bad to do to a creator's character with the view that we are putting all of this up for the creator's approval, we need to accept that this excludes us from writing anything where a character is abusive or is tortured or dies of a terminal illness or is psychologically broken or is age regressed or is neurodivergent or is queer if the cc is straight or trans if the cc is cis or cis if the cc is trans or straight if they're gay— the list of things that would be weird to do in the face of the real guy is really long. And it has most of our favourite tropes on it!

I love writing autistic philza. It would be really fuckin' weird to go up to Philza and tell him about how I write his character as whumped and autistic. Come on now. (But that's within boundaries, so that's— fine? I really don't think it's fine!)

Which is why my stance is that we should be thinking critically about these things, and keeping the fandom seperate from the creators. Some of these things are just not for the creators. They're fine but they shouldn't go on twitter. Y'know?

The idea that shipping draws uniquely on the real person and leads to invasive behaviour but nothing else does— that nobody does "I wrote A being tortured because I think A is tortured in real life"— Look. I have been in the fandom a long time. I remember how all the abused tommy narratives fed right into people assuming his family in real life were abusive— and talking about this on twitter! Where he and his family could see! People did this with WIlbur and Techno too!

I remember people reading about trans tommy and then truthing that the creator either was transmasc or was going to come out as transfemme any day now, publically, on twitter and in his chat. I have seen people she/her tubbo to his face on twitter, with fancams. I have been in chat when people who have clearly assigned Phil "dad" start asking WILDLY invasive things in TTS. If you think that shipping is the only fandom behaviour that can lead to people drawing directly from the streamers for their work and treating the creators weirdly about it, you simply have not been paying attention.

The way the fandom insists on treating benchtrio as children despite the fact that they're almost twenty and viciously attacking their friends for treating them as adults and chiding tommy and tubbo and ranboo for inappropriate behaviour. The list goes ON.

So. The recieved DSMP wisdom is that we should TTS the streamers to check if it's okay if we write a fic in which they die of cancer. We should DM them on instagram to ask if it's okay if we write them as a gender or sexual identity they don't share. We should show up in their twitter mentions to ask if it's okay if we write them as a physically abusive parent.

No????????

My view on that is that it is frankly bizzare it is that we have decided that "asking creators for detailed instructions regarding porn or gore" (especially in TTS! When they're fucking at WORK and can't step away! Stop doing this to the hermits!) is normal and fine and responsible but "post your shit in appropriate places and leave the creators out of it" will make you a monster.

Once again, the experience of someone coming up and saying "i think of you as age regressed" and someone saying "i found this fic where you're age regressed" and someone saying "can I write a fic where you're age regressed" is not that different. In all cases you know that the person has been thinking about it and putting it out there, and in all cases you didnt seek out this information, it was brought to you. In all cases it's weird. Just do not bring this information up to them!

If you just think about it for a while, you see that there is an entire host of things that would be weird to force into the view of a creator, especially when you consider that half the time we got these clips from TTS information when we have no idea if the person answering knew the context of what they were being asked, if they were specifically aware of the creator/cc divide that the fandom works with, or if they felt pressured into it. Oh yeah, let's take a TTS clip from Tubbo when it was 2 in the morning for him and he was deep in a minecraft mod when someone asked him about alters and delusions and he was like "oh you mean like— when they can't help it? I guess that's fine." That definately counts as freely given, reversible, informed, enthusiastic and specific consent to show him anything we want at all times forever. That's never going to make him uncomfortable.

Think a little here.

So I think there's a lot of the fandom that we should not be putting up for the approval of the creators, and if we don't have a firm answer on if they would like potential edge cases, we should probably be thinking about it and keeping it away from them (and I would err on the side of caution), we should NOT be showing up in the TTS to ask them about narratives in which they're institutionalized, or making them a GOP conservative in fiction, or if Wilbur was canon about seeing them as a bottom, or whatever bizzare thing someone is cooking up now. Honestly if you think to yourself "I don't know if the creator would like seeing this", I would be much more comfortable if the two choices we were picking between there were "simply don't write it" or "write it but keep it away from them", and "harass the creator for an answer on this subject and only write it if they say yes" never entered the equation at all.

And to return to your first point, if we already have a class of fiction that we are keeping away from the creators because basic intellectual curiosity would show that it would be weird to show someone, I don't think it's the end of the world to go "okay, creator doesn't like NSFW, so we also keep the NSFW away from them, keep this shit off twitter, block them if you create it, don't show it to them" and then we archive lock it and continue on our little weirdo on the internet ways.

Now, I don't expect to convince you of this, the phrasing of your post does not indicate that you're open to discussion on this topic. That's fine. Nobody has to agree with me. But I grew up conservative christian, and I have already had people try and get me to throw people out of the community for their perceived sins where I was like "well, I really don't think this is that bad", and I'm really resistant to being forced to do that again. I don't think it's a healthy way to run a fandom, to be shunning people for what they're doing in fiction. Harassing creators in chat? Sure, I will block them from my events as untrustworthy. That's hurting someone in the real world. Writing something that I don't vibe with privately on the archive for an audience of 50 people? That is not doing harm to real people. As long as they're not showing it to the creators, I don't count that as offensive.

How's that for nuance.

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS:

I'm going to say this VERY loud so that everyone at the back of the room hears this. Katherine Does Not Sleep Around. Kat Is actually a fairly tough personality to get on with. I'm not saying this because I DONT want ships. I am a SHIPPING WHORE. BUT my muse wont just smut for smut sake. Kat Is a HUGE FLIRT and will openly flirt BUT that doesn't mean she wants to wham bam thank you ma’am(or man). Even If Kat and another muse get to flirting there is no guarantee she isn't going to spook and back peddle. She is GREAT at freaking out and pulling away. It’s kind of her thing. TLDR?: NEED CHEMISTRY and FEELS FOR BOOM BOOM. Flirt =/= Wanting to do the do.

AN IMPORTANT HEADCANON: Kat is generally detached and indifferent but when attached? Friends, Family, Lovers? She can quickly become needy, clingy, and obsessive. BUT is also quick to retreat inward or act out under perceived rejection.

A USELESS HEADCANON:

Kat has a collection of “neat” flashlights and lighters. Her favorite lighter is a chicken who’s flame comes from it’s beak.

SOMETHING YOU ENJOY ABOUT (WRITING) THEM

While Kat has a whole lot about her that makes her a difficult personality she is also an EXTREMELY passionate personality. Her passion for the things and people she loves has such a swelling affectionate and energizing resonance that words and feelings can come on SO intensely. I can feel her excitement, pain, joy, and affection in such a physical way. Aside from that she has been an amazing outlet to filter my own life experience, rumination’s, and motifs through. Not to mention she also has a tendency to just crack me up.

Request Guideline (2023 Edition)

if you haven’t read my last post (i’ll link it here if you want to read) i’ve decided to revamp my page a little. i’m getting back into writing so i thought i should make another request guideline that better aligns with me and what i want to write and who i want to write for. so enjoy ;)

please make requests here. if there’s any problem with the link let me know! (the link doesn’t work at the moment i’ll add it as soon as i get my laptop back — click the link in my bio or on my masterlist in the mean time :) )

Guidelines:

When requesting please give me the character/celebrity, the show or movie they are from, a description of what you want, whether it will be fluff, angst, smut etc and if you want to be tagged. 

i may not always do smut, especially if it’s not something i’m comfortable with. this is not always the case however but if it is then i’ll let u know if i cannot complete the request.

Please specify if you would like it to be a female, gender neutral or male reader. Just as i explained in my previous post i do not write malexmale smut as it is nothing something i have any experience with - sorry. I will do threesomes (or more) where at least one woman is present :) 

I wont write an imagine about a gay character being straight. 

I am willing to write imagines about darker topics. Such as depression, suicide, eating disorders, etc. I will not however write in detail about rape but i am okay with it being mentioned/ hinted.

My intention is not to glorify or romantise any of these thing, especially since some of them are things i have gone through myself. In the past i haven’t always been sensitive or appropriate with the way i’ve handled them and i’m incredibly sorry if i’ve ever offended anyone or triggered them - this was never my intention. I have taken down some of the work i no longer feel comfortable being public for this reason so please do let me know if something i write bothers you and i’ll take it down.

I also dont like writing imagines where the character/celebrity is a kidnapper or murderer sorry. I also wont do incest relationships.

I dont do ships. I do reader imagines or if youd like to add a name to your request then ill more than happily do it like that.

I will do imagines on plus sizes readers. I will do imagines for family imagines as well and platonic ones too - please assure this is clear within the request. 

When you request something dont expect it to be up straightaway but i will try my hardest to be as quick as possible. I know with my track record that’s not saying much but i really do intend to be better and i’ll try and be more transparent about where i’m at with requests.

In the future there may be some changes to this list based on what i am interested in at the current time. Also if a character you want to request for isnt on the list but the actor is feel free to ask if i’ll do it for that character :)

Three ships

Hm, I will tell about my most recent one, the one I've written the most about, and the one that got me into writing fanfic and making fanart.

The latest: Nygmobblepot! Edward Nygma/Oswald Cobblepot from Gotham. Well, what can I say? Sad, mentally ill and murderous men, what's not to like? They have an interesting relationship, and I like to see it being explored more in many different forms.

The one I've written the most: Willton, Frederick Chilton/Will Graham from Hannibal. Even though this is the ship with the highest amount of words by me, it's still only somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 words. I'm a beginner, but hopefully getting better all the time! I admit, this one isn't very popular. I like NBC Hannibal's Chilton as a character a lot, and I personally think he needs some other character to develop himself. Will gives us contrast, with his cool calculations and violent mind compared to Frederick's neuroses and anxieties.

The beginning: Good old Mystrade. Mycroft Holmes/Greg Lestrade from BBC Sherlock. I'm a sucker for emotionally suppressed middle-aged men. I suppose I could explore my own experiences through them - anxiety, depression, self esteem issues. Older queer people have always made me hopeful, and even though it really isn't the same, sometimes fictional characters work as a substitute.

First ever ship

Huh, I am not absolutely sure, but I guess this would be Johnlock. I remember seeing one of the older Sherlock Holmes films when I was younger, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, 1970, and Holmes implying Watson and he were lovers felt surreal, almost. This one was an old film for a young kid such as myself, and there they were, queer, and it wasn't only a joke, we were not only portrayed as comic relief. Obviously it was somewhat humorous (Holmes trying to avoid fathering a child for Madame Petrova), but they didn't make it seem like queer people were lesser. In a way, I felt understood - that's what not having obvious actual queer representation causes - and it stayed in the back of my mind for a long time.

Now, thinking about the ships I've now told about, I realise I (often along with other people) have headcanoned one person of the pair as asexual, even though I've only known I'm ace myself for a very short time, comparatively.

Last song

I've been listening to Hannibal the Musical and Possibly in Michigan (Animal Cannibal). Completely normal and sane songs to listen to, I can assure you.

Last movie

I watched The Lady in the Van with my parents last night. It was quite amusing, both light-hearted and serious at the same time. Before that, The Batman (2022), which I didn't like as much as some of the other Batman films, but it was quite decent.

Currently reading

Haha, I'm not currently reading anything, really. The last actual book I read was the Shining by Stephen King some weeks ago. It was much better than the film, which I watched right after, although not scary at all.

Currently watching

Gotham (2014-2019). Finding television series that can keep me watching is not the easiest task, I guess. Usually I only like a few characters, and try to resist the urge to only see their scenes as long as I can.

Well, I should be getting an evening snack, but I'm writing this. Going to get an apple and some mango gurt with rice cereal.

fives x min is definitely the sunshine character x grumpy character trope on the surface where fives is of course sunshine and i am the grump. irl, i come off as very intimidating and grumpy and have resting 'ill murder you face' and i tend to be drawn to people who are outwardly the opposite. HOWEVER, on the inside and around ppl im comfortable with, im much more like how i present myself online. and i believe that fives when he's around someone he's comfortable with would allow himself to be more serious and contemplative in addition to being his goofy, lovable, talkative self

i think that if i met fives, our first interaction wouldn't be amazing. potentially i would come off as cold and i think that fives would take that as a challenge to get me to open up. and eventually it would work bc i am not immune to goofballs. in fact i would say i specifically love goofballs so much that im instantly drawn to them even if i try to hide it. eventually we'd become friends and one thing would lead to another and we'd realize "shit i love this idiot" and since im a firm believer that fives once he knows what he wants will do whatever it takes to get it (im also like that) there wouldnt be any pining or drawn out will they wont they. it would just be 'hey i like you' 'cool me too' 'nice' and that's that

i believe that fives is a really good communicator and is incredibly in touch with his feelings (or at least if he's feeling confused would want to sit down and talk through his feelings) and those are both really incredible traits to find in a partner. communication imo is key for a long lasting relationship. i think we would have arguments of course bc every relationship has those but at the end of the day we would never go to bed angry at each other.

i think fives would be the best partner (i have many thoughts about this like thousands of words of thoughts) and would bring out the best in me. he would help me open up and relax and laugh at life when i feel like i cant. and i think i would ground him and be someone he draws strength and comfort from. im personally an acts of service love language girlie (both giving and receiving love) and i think fives would love to do things for the person he loves but he would personally value physical touch and words of affirmation as ways of receiving love

i think we would be best friends and value our friendship as much as our romantic relationship. i think we'd do so many things together from something as mundane as going to the grocery store to going to concert together to planning trips together so that we can experience the world (galaxy?) together. i think i'd teach him how to cook and he would learn to bake and we'd bond over food. but just as much as we would do things together, i think we would be comfortable and happy having space for ourselves.

if this is irl, i think fives' hobbies would include learning how to play an instrument (personally i think he'd like to learn how to play the guitar) and he'd like to go hiking and take pictures of nature and document things he finds in nature in a journal (like little sketches of plants and animals). i think he and echo would go whitewater rafting and backpacking. and as i already mentioned i think fives would get really into baking.

if this is star wars universe and we're in a post war galaxy where clones have recognized rights and are free to live their life as citizens of the republic (bc i want to be happy this am) i think fives would still love baking, but i think his post war job could be a couple of things. he could go to school and study ecology and either become a teacher ( i think he would be a great teacher sOBS) or would become a scientist that goes to different planets to documents and study different species of flora.

we wouldn't get married in any traditional sense. but we would be together for 50+ years as i said and get sappier and more silly as life goes on aND YEAH

I love to write and draw, and initially made this blog for...well, gore drawings primarily, but it's kind of not panning out that way due to my currently limited ability to draw. I go in and out of hyperfixations like an absolute bitch, so right now this is primarily a Genshin Impact-focused blog. I might switch the focus later, or it might get really quiet in here, it kind of remains to be seen. But I currently should be in this hyperfixation for quite a while longer.

Basically any time I get really into writing a character, I tend to append a tragic backstory to them (if canon doesn't provide one), and they can wind up a much, much more softened/sympathetic version of themselves compared to canon. This...isn't fully intentional, it just keeps happening.

At some point, I'll probably add a specific tag to blacklist so if anyone doesn't want to see my versions of this or that character, they can just...avoid it like the plague-- If I do make that tag, it'll go here!

Feel free to send me asks about...basically anything! But do be prepared for an infodump if I feel strongly enough about something. (I'll try to keep the infodumping to positive things, however!)

I used to have a schedule and post on Monday & Friday with weekends scattered but that was too constricting for my mental health and creativity. I write when I want, how I want, on the topics I’m interested in and having an audience is a nice bonus.

I haven’t written fanfiction/stories in 5 years due to plagiarism and personal issues related to my mental illnesses and during that time I have collected literally hundreds of ideas and needed somewhere to dump them. Angst is my specialty and I write a lot of villain-centric/sympathetic stories so sometimes the villain wins so many of my stories will have a trigger warning (tw). If things like suicide, depression, character deaths, etc are things you don’t want to read then skip them.

I am also a csa (and other categories of abuse) survivor and while there will be no underage/”dead dove do not eat” content on this page (examples of exceptions would be Peter Parker x reader who is the same age as him), many of my stories I write to channel my trauma.

I mostly write things that I would want to read or can’t find in other fics. That being said I do have a list of things I do and don’t write. Some things are not up for debate so don’t bother asking.

i haven’t watched this show in so long and i was looking for gifsets the other night and some commentary from people in the tags (my god thats a terrifying tag) had me asking hunter a lot of questions because while he hasn’t seen spooks in years either, that eidetic memory helps out a lot when it comes to remembering every absolute fucking detail but anyways, as to the headcanon post this triggered - I’m gonna get rambly because it’s hard for me to organize disjointed thoughts so just hold on, mates ... don’t abandon ship yet.

There seems to be this idea in the lucas north fandom that he has some sort of break/schism as far as believing he actually is lucas instead of john bateman and while I agree with some of that .. it’s not how my brain is wrapping around it. Are we close enough for this yall? let’s hope we’re close enough for this. anyways, obviously the giant TraumaTM from being in russia causes a whole host of shit days and flashbacks and i know people argue that the entire arc of john vs lucas doesn’t make sense and that the writers destroyed his character but you know what .. it makes for some good fucking food when it comes to character complexities. Ignoring russia and going way back to the beginning, i know that obviously 8 years in a prison and like 17 days of torture really fuck up/break a person ... but there was a trauma response in him way before that. Sketching lightly over the details (i don’t wanna set anything from canon rigidly down bc then i’m beholden to it), when he blows up the embassy and then as a result murders lucas north and assumes his identity ... I’m pretty sure thats some TraumaTM right there, my mates. But the thing is - I don’t think you have to have a sort of psychotic break to start believing the lies you tell yourself. And actually, I don’t even have to say think - I can say know.

I am 32 years old and I’m super comfortable with myself now but I spent upwards of 30 years with my parents lying about how i was down to crazy little details. I had different friends, different social circles, different jokes, different things we did that day, different career choices, different college courses, different hobbies, different favorite foods, different books i read and different music i listened to, i didn’t play videogames, yada yada yada... I had an entire completely different life. When we first moved in together, Hunter would be like ‘what the absolute fuck??’ because i would talk to my mom on the phone or they would visit us and I just slid so easily into this role that i was supposed to play. I knew every detail, I could recall memories of things I had told them in junior high and high school to keep the charade alive and it wasn’t until I started CBT after my mental break in 2016 that I realized that I still to this day have things that are a part of me that make me go wait, did that happen? because i was so dedicated to the role, so to speak, To pull it off completely, I had to embrace it. Think of it as like real life roleplay. I got super good at lying and crafting an insane life for my parents to the fact they were literally none the wiser. Their kid was strung out on drugs and alcohol and had said fuck this to his master’s program and I was ‘put together’ every time they saw me, so it was fine. Mentall illness, being gay, being a nerd .. it’s all super frowned upon in our family so i learned to hide it and not be a disappointment.

 You embrace the lies in order to pull it off. You live it. Your memories sometimes become ‘real’ and you have to really work on sifting through them, but you don’t just forget that it’s not true. I was very aware of who I was and what I was doing so my logic is that my lucas north would be too. he doesn’t forget. does he reach a point where he pushes it to the back of his mind and gives himself the biggest lie of all? that everything is ok? that whole don’t think about it and it doesn’t exist approach? yes. and i think the trauma from russia sort of broke into that. which i mean, was i tortured for 17 days? no. but i had my breaking point in 2015 (blows a kiss to hunter) which people can definitely attest to. and i was so overwrought by the idea of living that double life and having to choose/face consequences or face the fact that i wasn’t who my parents thought i was or who they wanted me to be .. I almost pulled a season 9 plot twist as well (ifkyk). but i was stopped and I got help and I hung in there and I finally am me and my parents have been told to suck it .. but my point is - Lucas is not a hapless victim in my opinion and i will never write him as such. He is very aware of what he is doing. He knows deep down he is not lucas north. he is just trying to ignore that part of him that tells him so.
