Taking a hint from Casio digital watch modders, I've swapped this Tamagotchi into DARK MODE by adjusting the LCD's polarization alignment! White pixels and icons on black - SO COOL.
Not only that, I've swapped in the Japanese 20th Anniversary chip in place of the English Gen 2, added the bright red buttons from the milky white New P2, and tossed some polarized shimmer paint on the fireworks. The white painted frame also wasn't doing it for me so I removed it.
There's also a holo sticker attached directly to the front of the LCD screen so it looks like there are little fireworks inside the screen, too! (The way I have the polarizing film aligned, placing the holo film behind the LCD like I usually do wouldn't work because all light would be totally blocked!)
I will say that this dude is EXTREMELY hard to see...the light has to hit it juuust right. But it was important to me to carry the fireworks through to as many elements as possible, even if sleeping looks a little odd as a result.
(Damn I need more PolyWatch)
Needless to say I'm quite pleased with myself. Can't wait to show this off in public!
Moderately interesting difference between the 20th Anniversary Tamagotchi and the Tamagotchi Original: the speaker on the Anniversary version is wired like a real classic Tamagotchi! I bet it's going to sound so much better as a result. The springs on the Original, while extremely simple to position during re-assembly, make the speaker SCREAM way too loud. Very, VERY mundane difference, but good to know.
