I don't know if it's just because I'm gunning for Callum to have a staff of his own that he builds (a fresh start he didn't inherit from dead men, and because I think he'd really enjoy the task of both designing and crafting/building the thing) but I can't shake the feeling that Ibis' staff may get destroyed at some point.
Not only would its destruction have potential symbolism — since it represents primal and specifically sky (freedom) magic, it being destroyed could represent succumbing to dark magic / chains / Aaravos (temporarily) — but it'd add another layer to Callum, Ibis, and Claudia's dynamic.
Ibis is the one who taught Callum the wing spell that let him save Rayla. But now, possibly to save Rayla, Callum might have to do something he finds horrible (again). If that involves returning the cube ("If you seek to return that staff to its rightful owner, you pose a greater danger to the world than I can allow") then of course, on a certain level, his staff cannot be held by a successor who is going to return something just as dangerous to Aaravos. That fight to prevent it is what got him killed, and now it's been fully lost — ergo, the staff's got to go, too

Little details that TDP didn't have to include but chose to anyway:
1) Even once inheriting Ibis' staff, Callum isn't accustomed to using one regularly, so he still most often uses a literal hands on approach to draw the runes. Thus, while him going in close range fighting is a change in the S5 trailer(s), him going in fists flying rather than using his staff isn't out of the ordinary. Makes me wonder if part of the reason he felt disconnected with sword fighting (other than Soren not being a great teacher for him) was that disconnect between well, hand-eye coordination handling another object. Perhaps hand-to-hand stuff (without that barrier) would've suited him better?
2) In contrast, more long term / seemingly traditionally trained mages like Ibis and Claudia are more likely to draw runes with / source spells from their staff. This had a small pool of spells/scenes to draw from, as Ibis isn't featured in that many scenes, and Claudia actually does less outright staff magic in S4 than I remembered. But we do see Claudia confidently use the staff astride her horse (also likely for like, convenience, as she needs a hand to hold the staff and another to hold the horse's reins), whereas Ibis channels magic mostly from his staff even for simple, sillier spells (feeding a baby dragon vegetables). Probably just because he's used to it, and his primal staff means he can do magic wherever he wants, even underground, so it's just more natural to him than using his hand which may have a lack of consistency
3) This also might play into Callum's lack of a traditional path and/or the reaffirmation of the primal source and arcanum connection truly coming from within. I will be curious if, post S5 or whenever the next timeskip happens, if we'll see Callum grow in familiarity with the staff and begin to use it the way Claudia and Ibis do, but only time will tell
