laura bb!!! thank u for checking in my smoosh 🤍 i have exciting news 😭 this is my terrarium’s life cycle so far:

plant has 4 big adult leaves

1 leaf died (the one i showed u!!!) and following ur advice i pulled it away after it dried up (rip ☹️)

2 sets of 2 baby leaves start growing in the middle!!!!

they r now teenager leaves(?) currently not growing very much after their first growth spurt but well. i didn’t either. which is why i m 5’1

no progress for like 1 month… watering consistently and singing to the terrarium did not induce growth until…!!!!!

I FOUND TWO BABY LEAFS : ( growing at the base of the plant where i couldn’t see

2 more baby leaves have sprouted from my 2 teenage leafies 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

i m now a proud owner of a terrarium which has 13!!!!! leaves!!!! 3 big ones, 4 teenage ones, and 6 baby ones that haven’t opened entirely yet but 😭 i’m so excited!!!

Terrarium Lights, pt. 3.6

Previously on Terrarium Lights: Gail learns Mrs. Seward's side to the story.

Gail still felt like she had no idea what was going on.

After she prayed with Mrs. Seward, she had hugged the dear woman, paid for her food, and gone outside to talk with Jonathon. Upon making it outside, Jonathon broke the eventual silence to say that he wasn't sure he could talk about it right then.

"There's… a lot," he said. "About my past, and some things I've half-remembered, and about my current… condition. I just… I need to think about it alone for a bit."

"Well," Gail said, looking up at the sky that was a little darker than she'd like for her walk home, "you're welcome to either stay here and work that out, or else come back with me to think on it back at my house. I'm very glad to know you're safe, but I do need to head back before night falls."

Jonathon nodded. "I think… I think I'll stay here for the time being. I… I also need to think about where Samuel is. I know I tried to find him at some point, but couldn't."

"In this past week?" Gail asked.

"No. I think I tried to find him when I came back, from… wherever that was." He kicked at a pebble, watched it rock on the ground. "I think… I think that's how I ended up lost. I knew needed to find Samuel, before it was too late, but… I didn't find him. So I just wandered around and got lost in the woods."

Gail hummed. "So you sat down under a tree to rest."

"Something like that. I got a bit too lost, in every sense of the word, and I still can't quite remember it all. But… I don't think I found him. I don't know what I can do about it now, but… it’s something else for me to think about, I guess."

Gail prayed with him, too, before leaving for home, admonishing him after to make sure he got some rest. He smiled weakly, and replied with something vaguely non-committal.

But she had to face that she had done what she could for the day, and she had to be home. So she gave him another pat—it seemed to be the only form of physical contact that worked with him—and set out. It was a long walk, and the sun had set by the time she made it back. The last bit of the journey was slow, the path dark under the trees and lit only by the stars and moon.

After a quick supper, she fell right to sleep and did not wake until the sun had made its way back high into the sky.

Crafting update! - I set out to make a teddy bear (either a memory bear or a Bucky Bear, whichever, both are on my to-make list) - I did not do that - I have a baby quilt almost done??? I mean I’d already had the quilt top done, but I made the quilt sandwich, pinned it in place, and quilted it - I’m pausing to cool down because it’s currently hot* in the room where my sewing machine is, but once I’ve cooled down all I need to do is trim the backing and batting to size and add the binding. Almost done!! :D *it’s not that hot I am just a delicate plant that thrives in a very very narrow temperature range

#crafting update! #the narrow temperature range thing is if anything an understatement #I got a room thermometer because my doctor suggested it #because unfortunately I react to cold pretty much the same as beginning stage allergic reactions? #I don't actually go on to actually HAVE allergic reactions to cold #but I couldn't tell them apart and my doctor was like 'get a thermometer' #so now I know: less than 70 degrees and I am needing to have layered hoodies and blankets and slippers and slipper socks #over 76 and I start wilting in the heat #I CAN adjust that temperature range from like 68-78 as ideal temperatures #but it takes an absurdly long time. so usually by the end of winter #I'm like '68 really isn't that bad!' just in time for the weather to change #and the window of ideal temperature is never more than 5 or 6 degrees #so when it's adjusted down I handle heat even worse #humidity narrows that temperature range even further #at this point I kinda feel like I should be in a terrarium like a reptile with very specific habitat needs

#song of the day #it's been two weeks + two days since the last song of the day #the issue is you see that I started the songs up again in December because my insomnia was fucking up my perception of time #and I wanted some kind of regular marker to help me keep track #and then what happened two weeks + two days ago is that I lost all track of time and subsequently the songs of the day failed #I'm gonna see if I can keep up again for a bit now that I've re-restarted without an alarm on my phone #but if I miss any this week I'll just give in and turn the alarm back on #updates from the last two weeks are going to sound so chaotic let's see #I got a new project at work /and/ I got demoted /and/ I got added to a higher access level /and/ I'm in charge of a new database #yes all of those things together. I'm to be an accountant now! not instead but in addition to my other stuff. should be interesting #I didn't get April Fools off like I was scheduled to because all my scheduled vacation got unapproved #(I was here for about twenty nonsequential minutes to boop people and I'm glad I made time for it. extremely fun to boop) #I lied shamelessly to get eclipse day off and we went on a full-day roadtrip and it was wonderful. everything I dreamed and more #I killed one of my baby succulents through clumsiness and rabbits ate my pea plants but my sage and cabbages look promising #got a massive pot of mint flourishing on my porch and the horseradish is gorgeous #got Duncan lights and plants and a filter system for his frog tank but we haven't set up the substrate yet #so there's just potted plants sitting inside a terrarium. very amusing honestly #I've been playing a little Stardew and eating a /lot/ of hot sauce and tofu #drinking tons of klass aguas frescas--especially the soursop one. holy shit is it good. the mango and hibiscus also #and these past few days I've been sleeping better #for most of those two weeks I was getting a handful of twenty-minute naps each workday and then crashing unwillingly on the weekend #I haven't read any comic books since February :'( this weekend we're going to costco and then I'm reading comics until Monday #what have y'all been up to? I've missed being around #edit: oh shit the actual song part. anyway this is James Taylor! makes me happy and helps me settle. good vibes songs #I'm half-panicked about work all the time recently and then also today was tax day (Nick's taxes. blegh) #James Taylor doing some heavy lifting round here

yesterday i went cafe hopping with some frens and i had this AMAZING maple scone with miso butter… i’m salivating thinking about it again because the scone was so fluffy and sweet and the miso butter had like big chunky flakes of sea salt and miso!!! it was such a dream i wish i could share another one with you ; ;

Updates!

Victory! 🎆✨

NaNoWriMo got vanquished, with a few thousand words to spare. A hearty chunk of the word count was research-related, but I got Terrarium Lights fully drafted, which is also a victory in and of itself (I actually finished a story for once lol). The original plan was that the story would be three parts, and it still kind of is, just, uh, well now there are sub-parts to the parts. So. Not sure exactly how the update schedule will work, but I'm going to try to upload a bit every Saturday.

Research continues to go. I think I knocked out most of my needed research for Wild West stuff, but we'll see as the writing continues. 

Still debating about whether or not I should try and do an entry for the Christmas Inklings Challenge. I have some vague scene ideas but nothing concrete.

The rest of the month/year will be mostly prep work and research and editing for various projects to be tackled in 2024 (which is. next month. why is time like this), mainly a few more shorter stories and the longer story with Crispin, and more generally getting my writer act together.

I love my little globe terrarium!!!! I do wanna give it lower light though, all the begonias are turning so green. Also it's losing its shape a bit i might trim it down, i think it looked best in October 22

Little Plant Robot!

A Terrarium robot I made. I finally put the little plant I sculpted into it.

It's kinda sad I'm going to have to completely remake the 3D models from scratch, but it must be done. I made the originals using some sketchy TinkerCAD shenanigans. That made making adjustments difficult. Now that I use FreeCad, it'll save me from future headaches.

The parts arrived and the printer is reasonably working again. Just need to model/print... Then get more ideas for next month! You can see me trying to draw new ideas on the page.
