summary: As you walked into the briefing for your latest co-op mission with Task Force 141, all eyes were on you. Usually, this wasn't out of the ordinary as you were one of the first women to complete the full selection process for the SAS and your reputation preceded you. However, this was different as your gaze shifted from your surprised cousin and your terrified boyfriend.

"I'll see you all tomorrow at 08:00 for a briefing," Price announced as everyone exited the training room, "we might see some familiar faces, the SAS is loaning us some of their best." As they all walked to the showers, Soap just happened to be walking with the exhausted Ghost. "Have a cousin in the SAS wonder if she'll be there!" he hummed happily, "haven't seen her in ages." Simon nodded and hoped his suspicions would be wrong tomorrow. He turned on the shower and sat under the cold water for a moment. Out of the handful of women that was in the SAS, the chances of it being you were slim but never 0.
"Hey Peitho, are you ready to meet the renowned 141?" your friend joked as you exited your vehicle. "Just another room of sweaty men, it's like a basic Tuesday for me," you replied and jokingly punched his arm. "But you only hear whispers about these guys, no one doesn't even know how many of them there are." "I'll take my chances, Haystack," you muttered and you continued to follow your captain to the briefing room. As you walked through the linoleum hallways, you could feel the stares everyone was giving you. "Jesus, it's like they've never seen a woman before," you scoffed and Haystack turned to you. "It's not every day someone sees a legend like you." You smiled slightly at his compliment. It had been a few years since your big accomplishment. You and another woman had been the first to ever complete the full selection process. It was daunting to experience the grueling exercises and jeers of the other men but you would smile and take what was thrown at you. "I thought this was selection not a training run for Royal Navy," you'd spit and everyone backed off.
"Play nice," your captain warned before entering the door. You followed right behind him and walked to his right. "As promised Price, here's the best of the best," he announced as he gestured to the four of you. "Here we have, Buccaneer," everyone's gaze turned to the stoic man who stood at 6'7'', his dark hands and arms glistened with taupe-colored, healed scars. "Next there's Typhoon," and again, everyone's eyes shifted to the man who stood shorter than Buccaneer but whose body was pure muscle. He gave a small wave, followed by a crazed smirk. "Next, there's Haystack," your close friend walked forward as his pale skin and bleached hair practically blended into the wall, "got the reputation of being dead weight but he'll be the best combat medic you'll ever need." "Finally," you knew it was your turn and you stood forward, slightly.
You took a look around the room and noticed the men looking back up at you and their files. However, as your eyes drifted to the left, you could feel your eyes widen with recognition. There sat your cousin, you knew he was in the British Army but didn't realize he rose to this caliber. He had a slight smile on his face as he looked at you. However, your familial reunion would have to wait as you looked over at the broad man wearing a face mask. Although his face was obscured, you would recognize his figure and eyes anywhere. In fact, it was the one that was on top of you in bed a month ago. You swallowed as you both locked eyes. Why the fuck was Simon Riley here?
Your revelations were disrupted as your Captain continued his introductions. "We have, Peitho, one of the best women to ever make it out of selection. Don't even try anything with that one, she'll take you out before you can even utter a word," he joked and you nodded at his statement. "I assume you've all seen what they can do, I've given you our best hijacker, weapon specialist, combat medic, and covert operations specialist," he concluded and the floor was all Price's. "Thank you, Captain, they'll do great," he said confidently and the room boomed with his voice, "they can get to know my men on the plane." At this, everyone took a seat. You sat on the opposite end of Simon and Johnny, but you could feel their eyes on you. "Now for the debrief," Price directed and dimmed the lights to illuminate the large monitor on the display.
"I expect you all to review the floor plans our intel has provided," he directed as Sergeant Garrick yawned, "we will be leaving at 06:00 in two days." "Happy reading," Haystack commented as you both walked towards the exit. Before you could leave, Johnny placed a strong arm around your shoulders. "Y/N!" he exclaimed, "Haven't seen you in ages." You smiled up at him and reached a hand to ruffle his short, dark hair. "Pleasure seeing you again," you replied, "you're far from the lad who went to those raves." You both shared a smile as you caught up and exchanged some stories from the last few years. "Your mam said you were in the SAS, but I didn't know you were the one who completed the selection," he continued. "Told her not to brag," you replied, remembering how talkative your mother was especially when it came to her only daughter. Before you could continue, you heard someone clear their throat behind you. You both turned and realized you were blocking the exit for Simon.
"Sorry about that, Simon," you said, almost instinctively. As the words tumbled out of your mouth, you realized the mistake you had made. "Simon?" Johnny questioned and you both knew you were doomed, "Y/N, how do you know Lt?" Fuck. Me. you thought internally as Simon's eyes shot to yours in a panic. "Um, some out-of-office relations," you choked out and before Simon could exit, Johnny grabbed his arm. "You fucking bastard," he muttered, "so this is where you've been spending your leave?" The situation was escalating as Simon escaped his grasp and crossed his arms over his chest. "My personal life is none of your business, Sergeant," he commanded and Johnny balled his hands into tight fists. "It does when it's my cousin!" he practically shouted and you hoped no one could hear the commotion.
"Johnny, calm down," you directed, "I had no idea, Simon even worked with you. It's only been 6 months since we met." Before anyone could continue, Captain Price stopped in the doorway. "Hey!" he boomed, "we have a mission in 36 hours, get on it." You all nodded like scolded children and began to make your way back to your quarters. Before you could part, you gave Simon a quick hug and turned to Johnny. He still had the same angered look on his face and you rolled your eyes. "Get over it, little Johnny boy," you teased at his childhood nickname and he looked away. "Fine, but you know there are serious implications of pumpin' a superior," he mumbled. He walked off and you looked back at Simon. "Surprise, love?" you said almost questioningly before Simon led you to his quarters to “review” the floor plans.
As you sat wedged between Simon and Johnny, you were getting to know Sergeant Garrick or Gaz as he preferred. "So Pietho like the Greek goddess?" he asked and you nodded. "Goddess of persuasion and seduction," you smiled before Simon hit your thigh lightly. "I think I'm gonna be sick," Johnny moaned and Gaz just looked even more confused.

summary: what happens when Ellie stumbles upon a memorial that turns out to have both your and Joel's kids names on it. When the past pain is brought back to the daylight even the coldest of hearts finally break.
This can be read as a standalone but is written as a part two to Cold as ice.
warning: Killing, mentions of multiple death, loosing your kids, supplement use, mention of miscarriage, trauma but I think this is not as bad as the first part lol.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
"How is she?", Tommy approached Joel in a tight corridor that was filled with both sobbing people and soldiers shouting. "The same," Joel ran a hand over his face, "They are moving everyone out of here today. To a different quarantine facility." Those words instantly sparked something in Joel. "What? Shit, she's still pumped up with meds", if the process of going there was as torture as it was getting here, you barely stood a chance.
"Joel", Tommy started, but Joel was all up at his face within a heartbeat, "Tommy, if you'll tell me one more fucking time to leave her by. I will blow out your brain's myself". The tone was anything but pleasant. Joel had been wanting to rip someone to pieces for some time now. He had beaten the stranger to a pulp here after the first day. The man was standing in front of the door that led to your room. Crunched down to look through the little window. Joel didn't ask questions; he just swung a punch. Nor did he remember much besides that when Tommy pulled him away, the man was nothing but a pool of blood.
"You know that's not what…", "She lost two kids…", Joel's words cracked mid-sentence as the thought of his two angels once again swirled in his mind. His biggest and most precious little bugs were taken away like that. "So did you, man", Tommy brought Joel closer to him. Joel's arms moved to grip the material of his brother's jacket. He didn't want to cry, but the sob had come out of nowhere. The past three days have been a nightmare and then some. Now Joel was sure that he was paying for all of his sins. Paying in the most brutal ways.
Dragging you away from the field was the second hardest thing Joel ever had to do. He could only pray that his arms would not let him down as he pressed you closer to his body. Joel wasn't sure what they injected into your neck once you reached an army van and practically ripped out the eyes of the soldier who tried to help you into the vehicle, but you collapsed immediately. Joel barely managed to catch you. He pressed your unconscious body against his. Just like he had for the past hour or so. Praying and hoping that you weren't gone. Joel couldn't lose all three of you. Now you were all he had to fight for. No matter how much pain he was in himself. Joel had to drag you both out of the darkness.
Then he sat in the chair next to your bed. If you could even call it that. When they had ushered everyone underground, Joel had bribed a nurse to give you three a room and make sure that a doctor would come to check you. At that time, the price didn't matter. He needed an answer. Needed to know that you were going to wake up. High dose of sedatives - the doctor had said. "But I doubt it'll keep her out for long. After two kids… My apologies. If I'll find any medication", he had placed a supportive palm on Joel's shoulder. Something that would also end up feeling so foreign soon.
If Joel thought seeing you unconscious was difficult, it didn't compare to the heartbreak he had to endure the moment you opened your eyes. You jolted with a gasp. Eyes jumped across the room as you tried to figure out where you were. "Love…", Joel stood up, slowly approaching you. "Sarah… Malakai," you murmured as you continued to look around. "How about a glass of water, huh?", Joel asked, hoping to sway the topic. But you pushed the blanket off your body. "Sarah and Malakai," you repeated. Joel clenched his jaw. "Sarah and Malakai," "Love, stay in bed," Joel put his hands on your legs, stopping you from pushing them over the edge. "Sarah…Malakai", you said once again, eyes looking up at Joel, "They killed them. I saw… I saw," you breathed out, pressing a finger to your forehead where the bullet had pierced your son's skull. "I know, baby, I know", Joel tried to gently hold onto you, but the moment his palms touched your arms, you let out the loudest scream. Pushing him away as you turned to the other side of the bed. You dragged your feet over the cold concrete. Sinking to the floor without even being able to take a step forward. Joel rounded the bed as he kneeled in front of you.
"They are dead," you cried out, pulling at Joel's shirt, "My babies… I need to go, I need to…", you tried to pull yourself up by using Joel to brace yourself, but that only made you glance down at your hands, which were still slightly stained by the dried blood that had been on them. "Y/N, you need to calm down. Or they will come in here and", but you paid Joel no mind as you pulled your hands up so you could look at them.
"Get it off," you whispered, "Get it off," pushing your arms towards Joel as you screeched. Joel had scrubbed your unconscious body for hours. There was nothing more he could do. "Joel, get it off," you said once more, tears spilling from your eyes, and Joel couldn't bring himself to do anything. "It's everywhere, get it off", you moved your hand to rub at your skin. All you saw was blood. Blood everywhere. Rubbing turned into scratching, and soon your nails were raking over your skin. Joel quickly caught both of your wrists in his hands. Shaking you slightly as if in hopes of making your return to your senses. "Make it stop", you cried out, hallow eyes looking at Joel. "There's nothing on your hands, love", he barely managed to sound somewhat like himself. But you just shook your head at him, "There's blood all over them. Our kids' blood, Joel."
That was a day ago. Now you just lay there. Leafless. No movements. Eyes blinking once in a while. The only indication that you were still alive. Now Joel wished you would scream. The silence was torture. It was too loud. It pulled you so far away from him. Tommy clapped his brother on the back a couple of times before pulling away. "Get her ready. I'll look at how to get the best spot for you and make sure you two stay together," Joel said nothing. He hoped his eyes said enough. "You look after her. We'll get her back up on her feet," Joel could tell that even if Tommy tried to keep it somewhat positive, he didn't fully believe it himself. Didn't believe that there was any coming back from this. Nor did he believe that you would ever be the same. But Joel nodded anyway.
"Hey", Joel ran a hand over your forehead, once he stepped back into the little room, but didn't get a single movement in return. Not that he was expecting it. "We will have to get you dressed, okay? Then we'll need to go somewhere," Joel said, carefully pulling the blanket off your body before reaching for your clothes. Clothes he had washed. Wash off your kids' blood. Blood that seemed never-ending.
You were shivering. It hadn't stopped ever since you were brought in the first QZ. It had died down a bit. But there wasn't a moment when the quivering stopped. Joel pressed a kiss to your forehead as he walked through the corridor. Everyone was on high alert, and the soldiers were tired. Jumpy even. More than one person was killed here simply in the aftermath of unimaginable stress and anxiety. They only let healthy, strong people stay. Anyone with any injury, even the slightest one, was shot. You needed to stand on your own two feet. Walk through the lines of different specialists. Prove yourself worthy of surviving. And even that didn't guarantee you anything. You could have been hit by a bullet at any point.
You, however, were in no condition to stand. There was no way you could walk, much less talk. "Keep your head at the crook of my neck, love", Joel guided your head to rest there, "I will not let go of you even for a second. No one who will approach us will take you away from me," and at this point, Joel wasn't sure if he was still reassuring you or if it had turned to self-reassuring now. With the help of the doctor who assisted you just as you were brought here. They filed the documents of you having a miscarriage. Right here at the QZ. A piece of paper that had the main doctor's signature and forbade you from walking. That had high dosages of medicine marked as a fallacious move by the doctor itself. That you were more than a healthy female before that, and that you would regain that strength once the medication wore off. The only hope Joel had of getting you out of here alive was that piece of paper. And if that didn't work… Well, Joel was ready to kill anyone who stood in his way.
"Joel," Ellie's sad voice pulled the male out of the trance, "Sorry, I don't know why I'm telling you all of this." Joel rested his palms on his knees, ready to stand up, but Ellie quickly inched forward. It seemed to her that the man in front of her was no longer the same Joel she knew. "How did you… how did you get through that?", she knew the question was stupid. Joel let out a sad chuckle followed by a painful sigh, "You don't even have an idea how much strength you have until you are forced to use it. That's when you truly see your power". Joel had locked his pain away. Behind a plethora of locks, doors, and crevices. So no one could see it. No one could access it. Draped a shield of coldness on top of it. The coldness made Joel seem more like an animal than a human. He had to become a monster in order to protect the only thing that kept his heart beating. Nothing was off-limits when it came to you.
"I felt like I was failing every day. Every day that I saw her lying there," Joel shook his head at the images that haunted him. The feeling of helplessness flowed through him. Joel had found a woman who could pretend to be you for the time being. Who could take your evening shifts. Who kept the target off your back. No one was allowed to lay around in the QZ, there was too much work as it was. "Joel you were far from failing her", Ellie said putting her hand on Joel's palm, "It feels different kiddo when you see someone you love drifting away".
All the worried looks that Joel would give you made sense now. All the times he would walk up to you. Taking a hold of your hand as he looked at you. Moving to kiss your hands at the time, if not that then, Joel would just hold them in his much bigger palms. At the time, Ellie thought that by doing that, Joel was just trying to warm them up during the cold evenings, but now it had a way bigger meaning behind it. That was Joel's silent attempt to make sure that you stayed with him. That you wouldn't drift away. Like a true guard at night, standing his watch. Always ready to fight for you.
"And I felt horrible that I left him all alone", the sound of your voice made the two of them turn toward the door. "I kept on telling myself to get up. You need to do that for Joel, but…", you shrugged your shoulders. Joel reached his arm towards you, and you instantly walked close to him. Settling down on his lap. His arm snaked around your middle as Joel pressed a loving kiss to the top of your head. "I never blamed you for it," Joel whispered, looking straight into your eyes. "I know because you're an angel." You cupped his face gently. Leaning in to press your forehead to his. Brushing your fingers under Joel's eyes as you wiped away the last tears.
This man was everything. If you'd fallen for him and his sense of humor back then. The fact that there was never a dull moment with him that even the most serious moments could be turned into fits of laughter. If you had fallen for how attentive and caring he was toward your kids. The way he always put them first. The way he sat in the bathroom for hours learning how to braid Sarah's hair or how he played astronauts with Momo even after the longest shift. Putting him over his shoulder or back as he ran around the living room making all sorts of noises. Then Joel turned into a rock—a whole mountain that shielded you from the restless sea that threatened to drown you. Never moving. Never scared.
"I don't want you to feel like we've been using you as some sort of… as our kids' replacement. The love I feel towards you…" you started, but Ellie quickly shook her head. "How could I? No, Y/N never," she said quickly, and you reached for her hands. "You are a special girl, Ellie, so special," you said as you brushed your fingers over her cheek, and she leaned into your touch. Trying to savor it for as long as possible. "You both are like my parents and I've never felt that..", Ellie's bottom lip trembled. Joel reached out to her as well.
"And you are our girl," Joel said, his voice shaky, but he knew he had to say it. Had to let her know that his coldness toward her at the start was just his defensive response. His fear of the unknown. The fear of it all ending the same. But Joel knew that once his nightmare shifted and he started to see Ellie dying in Sarah's or Momo's place, he knew that she had sneaked past his guard. Ellie had managed to find that well-hidden spark inside Joel's heart. And there was nothing that could have been done about it.
Ellie wrapped her hands over both of your shoulders, pulling you both into a hug. A light cry slipped from her lips. Your hand instantly moved to rub her back in hopes of soothing her. Joel pressed a tender kiss to the crown of her head before turning his eyes to you. Your teary eyes were already looking back at him. You mouthed a silent "I love you" to him, which Joel returned straight away, followed by a light smile.
Once Ellie pulled away, you both looked at her with fondness. "Thank you for sharing this with me. You didn't have to, but you did," she said, as you rubbed away her tears the same way you had done before. "You are a part of the family now. Family doesn't have secrets," you said softly. "Plus, I think me and Y/N both needed closure", you nodded your head at Joel's words. You had told him multiple times that it was eating you alive that you were keeping this way from Ellie. You could tell that she sensed that something was wrong; she just never asked.
"Do you want to see a picture of them?", you asked, turning to Joel, who you knew had kept a picture of you four. The one he always carried around with him. Tommy had taken it on Momo's second birthday. The summer was in full swing, so you decided to have a barbecue outside. You stood there in a flowy dress, laughing at Sarah, who had a surprised look on her face since Joel had rubbed barbecue sauce on her cheek. Joel's head was thrown back as he laughed. Even Momo, who was nestled in your arms, had somewhat of a grin on his face.
"Sarah would have loved you", Ellie lifted her eyes away from the picture to the sound of Joel's voice. You hummed in agreement, "Momo would have been all over you as well you two cheeky bunch would have gotten into so much trouble". Ellie glanced back down. The image that she saw frozen in front of her seemed almost impossible compared to the two people she had met. But now she knew more than better to not judge the book by its cover. The deepest and most painful scars were always hidden the deepest.
"I would have loved to know them", Ellie said dragging her finger over their faces, "Momo, looks like a minute version of Joel". You let out a little laugh, "That's what I said. Imagine how mad I was after carrying him for nine months and he popped out looking nothing like me". Joel cracked a smile, looking down at the photograph himself. The one he barely pulled out these days.
"If we stay in Jackson, we must build them memorial stones and plant flowers all around them," Ellie said firmly. The tears picked up at the corners of your eyes as you gazed at her. "That's a really beautiful idea, Ellie bear," you said, running your fingers over her hair. Joel nudged Ellie's side playfully, making her let out a chuckle before he brought you closer to him once again. Time healed scars, even if slowly. But you two were here and now you had Ellie by your side. Your hearts, even if covered in scars, still beat for one another. Together, you were capable of anything and everything. Life has already proven that.

Summary: team bebe are in a daycare helping around and taking care of kids Bada can't help but catch notice you were not feeling well but at the process she catches feelings for you .
Genre : fluff
(Short)
Tumblr media
It was a quite normal day at the daycare, but for some reason, you couldn't shake off the feeling of sadness that lingered within you. Despite your efforts to maintain your usual bubbly demeanor, it was evident to your team especially your fellow Leader Bada that something was wrong .
Noticing your sour mood team bebe cant help but feel uncomplete they were used to your loud voice when speaking, laughing or even just joking with them . It left up the spirt within them it gave them a spark and energy to laugh, speak and joke back at you knowing they were tired of practice's , but now your quiet and feeling kind of upset they felt the difference from your actions .
"Whats wrong with y/n unnie? She seems .... sad" Kyma asked "she's been like that since the morning" Cheche answered feeling upset to . Tatter joined the conversation saying " I tried cheering her up this morning but she just smiled at me then left" "aww poor Y/n Unnie" Soweon said . "Maybe something is bothering her" Lusher said with a sad smile .
Bada was hearing all her members talking about so she decided to take matters into her own hands . "Who wants bubbles?" she exclaimed her eyes scanning the room filled with eager little faces. The children's enthusiastic response was immediate and infectious.
"Me! I want buboo!"
"Me, me!"
"Ahhhh, me!"
Team Bebe just looked at their leader questioning what is she doing and wondering where will she get the bubbles from . Lusher went to Bada and asked her "what are you doing ? We don't have bubbles with us , and if we magically had any I don't think it will be enough for all of these kids" she said with a nervous smile on her face "don't worry I got it " bada said while winking .
With a mischievous glint in her eye, Bada took charge. "Alright, everybody stand up!" she commanded, placing her hands on her hips in a playful stance. The children, like obedient little soldiers, rose to their feet and stood in anticipation.
Then something came with an unexpected twist. Bada, with a knowing smile, pointed directly at you. "Everyone give y/n a big BIG hug, and I'll bring the bubbles!" she declared motioning how big she wants the hug to be . Without hesitation, the children turned their attention to you, their faces lit up with wide smiles as they ran towards you like a tiny army of affectionate minions, wrapping their little arms around your legs.
Caught off guard by the sudden outpouring of love, you found yourself overwhelmed. The sadness that had weighed heavily on your heart began to dissipate, replaced by warmth and joy. "Awww, thank you everybody ," you exclaimed, unable to contain your laughter as you returned their embraces.
Team Bebe were surprised with how Bada handled the situation but smiles began to take over their sad faces "WOOO THATS OUR LEADER" Tatter said with an unexpected rush of energy . While team bebe was laughing at their member Bada was supposed to bring the bubbles from the basement , but her attention was elsewhere.
She stood frozen in place, her gaze fixed on you with a mixture of admiration for your smile and happiness that took over her . She was even surprised that when she saw you she smiled at the sense of you smiling . Time seemed to stand still as her heart raced with inexplicable emotions. It was as if the world had faded away, leaving only you and her in that moment.
After what felt like an eternity, Bada snapped out of her trance, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. Quickly averting her eyes, she muttered under her breath, "What the fuck is wrong with me..." she thought knowing that's her member she's thinking and blushing about .
As the children continued to shower you with hugs and laughter filled the room, Bada wrestled with her newfound feelings, unsure of how to make sense of them .

The Villain’s Weapon Pt. 6
Summary: When you hit your head and lose your memory, you fall into Loki's clutches.
Pairing: Villain Loki x F. Reader
Warnings: Memory loss. Villain Loki.
Part Five
See my Masterlist Here
Three days had come and gone since Loki’s talk with Thanos. Three days filled with failed attempts to kill you. He had poisoned your drink, but last minute decided to switch it with Clint’s, who knew what he had done unfortunately. He snuck into your room one night, placing a pillow over your face as you slept. You woke up, and noticed he was in your room again, so it ended with him cuddling you to sleep instead.
Loki used his magic to make the equipment you used to work out malfunction, but he reversed it right before it could harm you. You didn’t seem to notice his assassination attempts. He had four days left to kill you or Thanos would murder the both of you. You were in the room Loki used to train you on your magic. He found his perfect opportunity.
He was going to train you with physical fighting and choke you out. He would watch the life drain out of your bright eyes, betrayal written all over your face as you took your last breath. He stalked towards you, you didn’t hear him. You had your earbuds in, your music was always so loud.
He should just do it now, grab you while you weren’t expecting it. You must have felt his presence, because you twirled around just when he got close enough to touch you. “Loki! You scared me!” You take your earbuds out, placing them back in the case.
“My apologies. I was coming to see if you wanted to train with me today.” You agreed, you did need the practice and you were hoping to get more insight on what his plans for you were. He fought you more roughly than usual. He pinned you down, not letting you back up like he normally did. “Loki, let me up.” You try to sit up again, but he doesn’t let you.
Green smoke appears along with a dagger in his hand. Your heart races. “Loki? What are you doing? You’re really starting to freak me out.” You thrash underneath him, but his bulky body doesn’t budge. His blue eyes flash. He looks wild like the first time you saw him. The memory hits you like a ton of bricks. He was contained in the glass prison designed for The Hulk.
Natasha had gotten the information she needed from him, and you had been sent to smooth things over with him. He was kinder to you than Natasha, but you knew it was all an act. He wanted to get close to the newest Avenger. You would be the easiest to break. It turned out to be true because he escaped after he tricked you.
Every fight with him, every conversation came flooding back. That day when you hit your head and lost your memory, he had taken you with him and spared your life. You didn’t understand why. Why was he trying to kill you now when he kept you safe all this time? He had trained you. Your magic had greatly improved. He fed you, got you new clothes, he had become a friend to you.
“Why are you going to kill me now after all this time, Loki? Why didn’t you do it that day on the battlefield?” That stopped him immediately. Shock etched his features as the dagger clanged to the floor. “You remember?” You slowly shook your head yes, afraid that any sudden movement would have him reaching for the dagger again.
“H-how long?” He asked, brushing a dark curl behind his ear. You sighed, time to come clean. “Just last week after I hit my head again. I was just trying to figure out your motives, I swear.” He studies your face looking for any hint of dishonesty.
“I wanted you on my side. How poetic would it be if an Avenger helped me take over this repulsive planet. Thanos promised me his army of Chitauri to help me, but in return, I answer to him. He didn’t think keeping you was a good idea. When Barton walked in on us kissing, he told Thanos. They all thought you were making me soft. So he gave me until the end of the week to kill you.”
You take a deep breath, trying to process everything. “Loki, after spending all this time with you, I consider you a friend. Can I ask you for one last favor?” He looks at you suspiciously, “Go on then.” “Make it quick, please? Since I'm still seeing posts where people are saying Buck wanted Tommy's attention in 7x04 I thought I would do a break down of the episode. Cause the entire thing was about how Buck wanted Eddie's attention full stop and I'm baffled that some of you missed that it wasn't exactly subtle:
Tumblr media
This is going to be a long post with gifs so I'll put it under the cut
First there was the mansion call. (I know some might say this scene is different because it was meant to be a part of episode 7x05. Doesn't matter they changed the order so it's canon for this ep and so Buck's behavior in it is relevant).
Buck trying to get Eddie's attention with the random facts he knows and also because he knows no one listens and appreciates that stuff about him like Eddie:
Tumblr media
Buck glued to Eddie's side the whole call.
Tumblr media
Buck also not showing any interest in the ladies from the Bachelor while he's standing with Eddie.
Tumblr media
---
Then you have the scene at the hanger:
Here's the thing I do believe Buck has an attraction to Tommy and is interested in him but the main draw Buck has to Tommy is because of the multiple similarities Tommy has to Eddie. The show was practically putting a neon sign above Eddie and Tommy multiple times saying that Tommy is a mirror of Eddie.
Tumblr media
I'd also like to point out that maybe it was just me but Tommy didn't seem all that interested in Buck throughout this scene or really any scene until the last one. Now yeah he could have been being cautious because he didn't know if Buck was into guys but I honestly got the vibe he was into Eddie. I can't help but wonder if he was trying to get with Eddie and then maybe in Vegas Eddie told him he was straight (not that he is) or maybe Eddie just told him he has a beard girlfriend. No one can convince me otherwise that Tommy doesn't think there's something between Eddie and Buck. I 100% believe all Eddie did was talk about Buck when they hung out and Buck did the same thing right up until Tommy kissed him. That whole "my attention" line was very telling. Tommy you're gonna get your heart broken but I get it dude Buck is hot.
So anyway Buck goes for a tour and unsurprisingly he brings up Eddie before Eddie ever shows up. And while yeah it's him responding to Tommy saying he was in the army it just feels like a partner moment. Like yeah no way my boyfriend was in the army. Buck talking about Eddie is as second nature as someone talking about their spouse. They're such an integrated part of their life that they don't even realize how much they talk about each other. It'll be interesting to see if Buck does the same thing when he's on his date with Tommy too.
Tumblr media
Then Eddie shows up and if you watch Buck the whole scene once Eddie arrives he's almost exclusively watching Eddie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(watching Eddie walk away)
Here's the difference btw in one of the few times he looks at tommy (when Tommy speaks) after Eddie show up 👇
Tumblr media
Then at the end you have Buck make this face:
Tumblr media
Which I think isn't so much about feeling left out as it is seeing how happy Eddie is and knowing he's not the one making him happy. Although I don't think Buck is consciously processing all of that right now but I definitely think that was a big part of it.
I think in this whole scene what's going on in Buck's head is this: 1. surprise that Eddie is there because he didn't expect him 2. Why didn't Eddie tell me he was hanging out with Tommy (I usually know everything going on with Eddie). 3. Trying to understand what he's feeling when he sees Eddie and Tommy together. 4. Feeling confused about everything. 5. Jealous that Eddie is going off with someone who isn't him but not really understanding that's what it is.
I get some people might watch that scene and say well Buck was essentially asking Tommy out on a date and then Eddie showed up an took off with him so he must be jealous that Eddie is getting to spend time with Tommy. Buck obviously has an attraction to Tommy but the person he really wants and wants to spend time with is Eddie this is further highlighted by the next scene we see them in when Buck keeps getting more and more upset over hearing about how Eddie is doing things he enjoys with someone who isn't Buck. But also in how Buck acted while at the at the hanger. He wasn't focused on Tommy. I mean have you ever been crushing on someone when they're in the room it's like no one else is. The person who Buck couldn't take his eyes off of was Eddie.
-------
Next we have the sewer rescue scene with Ravi. (We really need more Ravi and Buddie scenes btw I love them together) We have Buddie working together as per usual. Highlighting like in the Bachelor scene how well they work together which they always do.
You have Buck telling the story from the pilot about when he saved that baby in the wall and Eddie smiling fondly like a typical spouse who has heard that story a million times.
Tumblr media
While they're working Buck is spending the whole call trying to find out what Eddie was up to when he went to Vegas.
Tumblr media
Buck is asking a million questions which implies that Eddie hasn't told him yet about the trip. This goes back to the helicopter scene where Buck didn't know Eddie was spending time with Tommy and is really starting to feel left out. Again this isn't really about Tommy or Buck feeling like he's missing out on spending time with Tommy it's Buck feeling like he's missing out on Eddie's life.
Buck calls out the similarities between Eddie and Tommy
Tumblr media
Although he's still clueless that this is what is primarily causing him to be drawn to Tommy. More than anything this was for the audience to again say in case you didn't catch it by now Tommy is like Eddie. They want to keep reminding us of this before the kiss so we know Buck is going to date someone who is like his best friend.
Also want to point out that while Buck is talking about Tommy to Eddie the camera shakes at points so we feel Buck's nerves. He's nervous to hear what Eddie has to say about Tommy.
Also the whole conversation about "naked men pummeling each other" and Eddie saying that he was wrestling with Tommy. Like I'm sorry but not one ounce of that convo felt heterosexual.
I've seen someone say that Buck's jealousy must have been about Tommy because Buck isn't even interested in the things Eddie and Tommy were doing together like Muay Thai and basketball etc but you can hear/see Buck getting more and more hurt as he and Eddie talk because Eddie is sharing parts of himself with someone else.
I feel like there's multiple reasons why Eddie and Buck haven't been spending as much time together. I mean yeah Eddie made a new friend but for the longest time it's been BuckandEddie like peas in a pod in work and outside. But I think the end of season six played a role in some of that changing
At the end of last season they were both dating someone else and they had both gone through some major trauma with Buck literally dying for 3+ minutes. We know that seriously affected Buck but the show didn't touch on how I know it must have affected Eddie. If you watch the scene (from 7x01) where Buck talks to Chris and we see Eddie's reaction in the hall when Chris talks about how everyone leaves. I can't help but think Buck's brush with death made Eddie think of Shannon and how scared he is to lose another person he loves or worse put Chris through that.
Not to mention what Buck said in the cemetery how he felt like Natalia this woman he had known for less than a minute saw him better than anyone. I feel like all of that combined made Eddie distance himself a little even if he wasn't doing it totally consciously.
There's also the fact that I think Buck has kind of taken Eddie for granted a little. We find out later in the ep that Eddie had asked Buck to play basketball with him many times but he'd always turned him down. I also got the impression in this ep that Eddie has all these hobbies that he was sharing with Tommy when he would have rather been doing them with Buck (he was so excited when Buck showed up on the basketball court).
And I'm not saying Buck doesn't love Eddie or hasn't tried hard to be there for Eddie and Chris over the years but it's something that happens in relationships sometimes. You think the person is always going to be there and you get distracted with life stuff.
This combined with things Oliver has been saying in interviews about how Buck is going to have to put in work for his next relationship. How Buck has always gotten whatever person he wanted mostly and I can't help but wonder if that's going to play a role in how Buddie is developed. Is Buck going to have to prove to Eddie how much he means to him?
Tumblr media
This part of the scene if no other really lets you know it's about Eddie and not Tommy. We can see how Buck is looking at Eddie when he says I do I really do and we feel all these intense emotions from him more than would make sense for the brief amount of time he's known Tommy. He's clearly thinking of when he met Eddie.
These are really just the baby steps of Buck recognizing how deeply he feels for Eddie. Because right here he's thinking that he thought their connection and place in each other's lives was special and unique to every one else they knew but then he hears Eddie talk like that and thinks maybe he was the only one who felt that way. Maybe he's easily replaced in Eddie's life.
----
So Buck goes to talk about his feelings on everything with Maddie. Tbh I wasn't thrilled with how they did the Buck and Maddie scenes in this ep. Though I do think we're going to get more of a heart to heart with the two of them in future eps when Buck officially comes out. I just feel like Buck needed someone to really listen to him and Maddie was a little dismissive both times he talked to her. I also really want someone to try to ask Buck about his feelings for Eddie.
It's kind of crazy to me how no one in the 118 has ever really brought up the fact of how close Buck and Eddie are. Maddie has said the whole "boy crush" thing and that elf mistook them for being married but what I mean is you know the 118 sees how they are. Look at when Eddie was shot. It was assumed automatically that Buck was going to be the one to talk to Chris because they knew how close Buck and Eddie are and how they're essentially raising Chris together. This is how people talk about someone's spouse not just their friend.
Tumblr media
Back to the convo with Maddie
Buck is complaining to Maddie about Eddie and Tommy. His feelings in that scene don't come across like he's unaware of some attraction he has to Tommy or like he's trying to hide feelings for him. He comes across as hurt, and frustrated, and confused that this new person has moved in on his place in Eddie and Chris' life.
Tumblr media
Again I'm not saying Buck doesn't have an attraction to Tommy but I do think Tommy is a distraction more than anything. I think Buck is focusing on him rather than looking at the entire situation. Instead of asking himself why does it matter if your friend has a new friend? Why does it matter if Eddie spends time with new people? Why does it matter if Eddie shares parts of himself with someone else parts he might not be sharing with you?
----
Then of course there's the gym scene at the firehouse. I've seen people say Buck thought Eddie was on the phone with Tommy. And maybe he did. But you expect me to believe he was upset and jealous over Tommy and because Eddie was getting to talk to him and his way of dealing with that was to try and get Eddie's attention through lifting weights and pointing his dick at him. o_o
Tumblr media
Literally sitting up in the middle of lifting weights so he can see if Eddie is looking over at him.
Nothing about this scene is telling the audience that Buck is thinking about Tommy. It's saying he wants Eddie's attention.
This scene is actually very similar to what happened at the hanger
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Buck saw Eddie looking incredibly happy and he wasn't the one making him happy. Eddie also wasn't sharing what's been going on in his life with Buck. Buck felt shut out and ignored from the one person who he's been the closet with for years. Even when they've had girlfriends it's clear Buck and Eddie have been close and connected in ways they never were with anyone else. Buck is scared he's losing that.
If the show wanted us to believe that the scene was about Buck and Tommy and Buck's growing attraction to Tommy there are so many different things they could have done to highlight that. Have Tommy ask Eddie about Buck (if that even was who Eddie was talking to) and have Eddie tell Buck he was talking to Tommy maybe direct a question from Tommy to Buck. They also at the least could have said that's who Eddie was talking to and they didn't even do that. They could have had Buck ask Eddie hey is that Tommy? But they didn't because the scene wasn't really about Tommy it's about Buck's feelings for Eddie that he still hasn't fully come to terms with yet.
Buck buys a basketball literally has it sent to the firehouse so Eddie can see him with it and hopefully ask him to go play basketball with him. Because remember he's feeling left out of Eddie's life. It's not like he asked Tommy to play basketball or asks Eddie if he can go with him to the court in hopes of seeing Tommy. No he wants Eddie to invite him. He wants to know Eddie wants him there.
Watch how Buck acts even when he's opening the basketball. He's trying to do it quickly and even while he's doing that he's looking over to Eddie to try and get his attention.
Tumblr media
Also someone on twitter pointed out that in season 3 it was shown in Buck's loft that he already had a ball. My head canon is that he still has that ball and the lunatic that he is he just bought a whole new one and had it sent to the firehouse so eddie would see him with it. 🤦‍♀️
Tumblr media
---
Next is the infamous basketball court scene where I knew the minute I heard "basketball beard" and playing with the boys and other Top Gun references that canon bi Buck was a go.
Similar to the hanger scene Buck's attention is almost exclusively on Eddie through the whole scene.
Oh I'd also like to point out that both times that Eddie was with Tommy in this ep he was wearing sunglasses particularly when the two of them were side by side. I feel like it's the shows way of saying that Buck is not seeing Eddie right now and he's not connecting with his true feelings for Eddie.
Tumblr media
I know Oliver is good at basketball but I couldn't help but laugh when they included that shot of him spinning the ball. Like we're meant to believe Buck doesn't play how did he learn to do that 🤦‍♀️
If the basketball scene had really been about Buck wanting Tommy's attention or being jealous that Eddie was getting Tommy's attention Buck wouldn't have been spending the entire time trying to get Eddie's attention. He also would have been competing with Eddie for Tommy's attention and he wasn't he was trying to get Eddie to notice him because he felt like all Eddie was doing was focusing on Tommy.
Tumblr media
You can watch Buck get progressively more upset through the game as he feels like Eddie is competing against him and partnering with someone else when for so long that's been his role on and off the court. It's been Buddie against the world.
Tumblr media
Also there's a moment when Buck runs into Tommy but the show never plays it as some kind of moment between the two. I mean they had more of a moment on the boat after the cruise ship when Buck patted Tommy's shoulder. But like according to some this is supposed to be the episode Buck is all into Tommy but that's just not present most of the episode.
Buck immediately knows he's fucked up after Eddie is hurt. I've seen people say why wasn't he running to help him but I've been in a similar situation like that where you're so stunned that you did something to cause someone you cared about to be hurt you can't even move.
Then as soon as Buck wants to try and help Tommy swoops in and says he'll take Eddie to the hospital. Taking care of Eddie has been Buck's job for a long long time. Think about how he saved Eddie during the shooting and took care of him and Chris. Also he took care of them during Eddie's mental health crisis. Buck is feeling like Eddie doesn't need him anymore.
Here's another thing I want to bring up about the basketball scene. Like I keep saying people have said that a lot of Buck's motivations in this ep were about Tommy. I'm sorry but you don't have those kind of strong emotions over someone you just met. Even if his emotions were that he had a crush on Tommy and felt like Eddie was taking all Tommy's time away. If Buck behaved that way from a simple crush on a guy he barely knew I would think he'd lost his mind. No he reacted the way he did because all of these feelings (that he's just now scratching the surface of dealing with) are connected to Eddie someone who means everything to him.
Remember too that Oliver said in his interviews that Buck doesn't even know why he's jealous or who or what it's about. Which is why I think even by the end of the episode when Buck thinks he's figured some things out there's still a lot he's missing.
----
The second Maddie scene
I definitely agree with what others have said that unfortunately Maddie's words here only served to further confuse Buck. What he was feeling was not just being left out and excluded from this friend but mostly jealous over a man he loves being all excited to spend so much time with someone else. Buck was jealous and scared of someone taking his place in Eddie's life and doesn't really know how to process that.
Oh and for people who say he wasn't jealous over Eddie he literally says he was to Maddie.
Tumblr media
Buck admits he was trying to get Eddie's attention which like I said in the basketball scene you can see because Eddie is all Buck is focused on.
----------
Then of course we have the end scene with Buck and Tommy.
First we get the opening shot where Buck answers the door. And before he even answers we the audience are made to think it's going to be Eddie and made to think Buck also thinks it's going to be Eddie. Because all of the tension that's been between them in the ep hasn't been resolved and Buck hasn't talked about how he's been feeling to Eddie at all. So we're left waiting for that resolution.
Instead however when Buck opens the door it's Tommy
Tumblr media
One thing I didn't mention earlier was that the show has made it a point to have Tommy only call Buck Evan. I've seen a number of theories people have for why this is, personally I think it's a reminder to the audience that Tommy for all his similarities isn't Eddie. Like they give us all these signs that say look Eddie and Tommy are so much the same but everytime you hear Tommy say Evan so casually like that you remember they're different.
Eddie who knows the real Buck only ever calls him that and it's only on the rare serious occasion does he use Buck's real name. Maddie is similar. It's like when Ana called Eddie Edmundo. These people have an idea of who Buck and Eddie are but they they don't know all the little intricate pieces that's something Buck and Eddie only have with one another.
So Buck is smiling and laughing (somewhat out of embarrassment for how he behaved on the basketball court) but watch his body language at even the mention of someone replacing him in Eddie's life:
Tumblr media
I find it extremely foreshadowing of what's to come with Buddie that the show chose to have Tommy and Buck spend most of the time before their first kiss even right down to the seconds before it talking about Eddie and even talked about him afterwards. I mean if you didn't want your audience shipping a ship or giving them hope it was going to happen would you do that?
Buck not only talks about Eddie before the kiss he talks about how great he is and brings up memories of their past. Almost like someone talking about an ex they're still in love with. Like you're trying to move on but you can't help what your heart wants.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Like I said above I fully believe that when Tommy said "my attention" he knew that Buck is all about Eddie. Buck's response being "I guess" is even more telling because it shows his confusion. I definitely think that when Buck and Tommy break up (or however far they get in their dating) that we'll get some kind of confirmation that Tommy always knew Buck and Eddie were in love.
I think a lot of the stuff Buck talks about in this scene is him trying in the moment to make sense of the confusing way he's been feeling. I do think he's attracted to and likes Tommy but there is also a whole host of other feelings he has that really were the main motivating factors into why he acted the way he did in this episode.
The last time Buck was with someone and there was an I love you it was with Taylor and it was like Buck just went along in that relationship because he felt like he was supposed to. Buck and Eddie are similar in that way. They have this amazing love and bond with one another but there's a reason besides the fact that they're both guys that they keep avoiding really confronting their feelings. They're scared. They're scared to loose what they have. They're scared to change it. They're scared of fucking it up like they believe they have their past relationships. Scared of so many things. So they just kind of side step it at every turn.
The show mentioning Eddie right before the scene ends is one of the biggest indicators that this is all leading to Buddie.
Tumblr media
If the episode was really just a misdirect where Buck was really into Tommy all along they wouldn't have made the last scene so Eddie heavy and especially not the last bit of dialogue about Eddie. The last few lines are what you're leaving the audience with until the next episode and the words they left us with are about Eddie (and Buck) so we're meant to focus on them.
If you read all this thank you ❤️. This post took me forever (which would be why it's getting posted a full week after the ep >_< ) please reblog if you like it. Can't wait for the ep tonight.

Thus Always to Tyrants
Chapter 1: The Start of the Fall
Gem is the commander of the Wintertide royal army, Grian is the leader of a resistance hell bent on taking the crown down no matter the cost. It was only natural that they would become enemies.
Chapter 1 (you are here) -> Chapter 2
Read on ao3 ❀ here ❀
CW: past/mentioned war, non-graphic violence.
Words: 6,493
Pov: Gem
❀ ❀ ❀ ❀ ❀
The tip of Gem’s sword punctured the dummy’s chest, right through the center of the worn out fabric X sewn into its burlap surface. She planted her foot right under where the blade was buried and kicked it away with enough force to send it crashing to the ground, freeing her sword in the process. The dummy rolled away from her,  it’s sewn on face frowning up at her sadly in an almost comedic way as it went. She panted and stood up straight, rolling her shoulders to release some of the tension they had collected in the muscles.
Her ears were met with a round of clapping, and she turned to smile at the group of young knights and squires who had gathered at the edge of the training grounds to observe her sword play. She gave an elegant, somewhat exaggerated, bow before turning to look up at the sky. She shielded her eyes from the shining rays as she checked the sun’s position. It was just about noon by this point, if not nearing it. She should be on her way, lest she be late.
“That will be all from me, I’m afraid. I’m in danger of receiving a verbal lashing from sir Impulse.” She joked to the trainees with an apologetic smile.
“Do you really have to go?” One of the younger squires asked with big, pleading eyes. The others echoed the sentiment, all trying to convince her to stay and show them more.
“Unfortunately, yes, I do,” She said, “It’s a very important day today, as you all know, and my presence cannot be missed. Why don’t you lot work on what I just showed you until you are called to join us, and then you can show me your improvement another day. How does that sound?” There was a chorus of disappointed vocalisations, but they got back to their own work pretty quickly after a stern look was thrown their way.
She walked over to the fallen dummy and took a moment to stand it upright so that it was ready for the next person to use. She jogged over to where she had abandoned her water skin at the edge of the training ring, expertly tossing the practice sword she had borrowed into the designated barrel behind the dummies as she went. She took a few greedy gulps of sweet, crisp water before wiping away the sweat that had accumulated on her brow with the hem of her sleeve. Her clothes were damp with sweat and sticking to her skin, but where she was heading would be just as hot, if not more, so she was not worried about it.
She really should not have let herself be roped into showing off to the younger knights and squires, but how could she not? She simply could not resist their charms; she had no choice but to say yes when they came to her on her way out to beg that she show them a few basic forms. They reminded her far too much of her younger self, she supposed. Bright eyed, full of admiration, and ready and eager to learn. There had been someone once in her life that was willing to give in to her pleas and show her everything they knew, she only thought it fair that she be the same kind of role model in these kids' lives. She would just die if she didn’t live up to their expectations. If that meant she ended up a little late every now and then? So be it.
She hooked the skin to her belt and bid the young ones an enthusiastic farewell, which they returned with varying degrees of equal cheerfulness and disappointment, and with that, she was off. She darted through the servant's entrance and into the kitchen, where she quickly snagged a bread roll out of a basket on one of the counters, giggling at the indigent shout of “Commander!” from one of the cooks as she did so. She waved goodbye to them, and they rolled their eyes at her, crossing their arms as she rounded the corner into the hall.
She made her way through the corridors with the bread roll secured safely in her bite, the loud clanking of her armor bouncing off of the high walls. As she ran, she took the opportunity to fix her bun, which had gotten rather messy during her little showing off session. She tucked loose strands back where they belonged and tightened the binding holding the bun and the braid together. It probably still looked a right mess, but at least it was a little more presentable. With her hair out of her face, she took a large bite out of the roll, groaning at the sweet, buttery taste of it.
She haphazardly shoved the rest of the roll into her mouth and chewed as fast as she could without choking. She licked the flakey crumbs from her fingers and wiped the rest of the mess off on the skirt of her dress. Not the most polite or proper, and her mama would definitely scold her for doing it, but she had not the time to worry about manners. She was going to be late; later than she probably already was.
She waved to the on duty guard at the main door and he yelled for her to have a good time just as she exited earshot. She lifted up the hem of her dress as she ran down the front steps, trying to avoid tripping over the expanse of fabric. She stumbled a little on the final step, pinwheeling her arms in order to steady herself before carrying on her way.
She squinted against the sun in her eyes and slowed her pace to a light jog, a smile coming onto her face as she caught sight of her friends and the small group of guards waiting at the front gate for her. Impulse and Scott looked up as she skidded to a stop in front of them. She put her hands on her hips and bent slightly at the waist as she tried to catch her breath.
“Worry not, I am here!” She proudly declared as she straightened her stance.
“Here, and late.” Scott said from where he was leaned against the wall, arms crossed, and one foot propped against the stone. His long hair was pulled over his shoulder into a braid, a stray stand of the blue locks falling into his amused face. Impulse beside him stood more casually with his thumbs tucked into the belt around his waist. The eldest man stifled a laugh at her expense.
“I will have you know that I am barely late. It is hardly even noon yet!” Gem defended with her hands still on her hips, turning her nose up at him in a playful manner.
“Late is late, Commander,” Scott laughed, his heterochromatic eyes gleaming with delight at her defensiveness. Gem opened her mouth to continue the friendly argument, but was halted by Impulse’s hand’s clamping down on either of their shoulders.
“Alright, that’s enough out of you two. Let's be on our way before our absence is missed.” Impulse said. Despite being lower in rank than her, Impulse was the oldest out of them, and one of her best friends, so Gem took no offense when he gave her a light shove in the direction of the town.
Gem took the lead as they exited the front gates, bidding the guards up at the top of the tall wall a goodbye as she went. Truth be told, it really was not too much of an issue that they were heading out a little later than what they expected. She had long ago coordinated and dispatched another unit to go ahead of them early this morning. Not only that, but her presence was not something that was strictly required, it was a personal choice. Technically there was no way for them to be late to this event. Scott simply enjoyed pulling her leg, and she, his.
The journey to town didn’t take them very long - a journey that they could have made shorter had the capital not been too crowded to bring horses on a day like this -  and in the blink of an eye they were entering the crowded city.
Stands and carts littered the usually empty streets, filled to the brim with rare goods and flooded by customers eager to get their hands on whatever was being offered. The decadent smell of cooking meats and spices filled her nose and caused her mouth to water, the faint hint of baked goods and perfumes lingering just under the surface. Lively music filled the air, as did laughter and conversation. Over the heads of many a passersby she could see a stage set up in the center of the city square, where a band was playing the jolly tune that could be heard.
If one was to look even further, they would also catch sight of even more booths and carts, designated entirely to games and things of the like. There were even places set up for the trading of livestock and furniture. Buildings were lined with decorations that were vibrant in colour.
The event wasn’t to officially begin for another quarter of an hour, but it appeared things were already in full swing.
The Festival of Good Tides; a yearly occurrence in Wintertide that was first established several years back after a truce had been called to end a three-year war between the kingdom and its neighbouring lands, Coral Crest. What was originally created as a way of boosting post war morale had become somewhat of a national holiday that the people looked forward to with great anticipation. Its popularity was also helped by the fact that the many activities and wares sold brought a large increase of income to the kingdom, something that many now relied on for the coming winter season, where food and warmth was a bit hard to come by without a bit of extra coin.
Though the festivities only lasted one day, the most was always made of it. Events and trading started at noon and extended into the evening until the sun had set and the stars had risen, from which point the king would make his appearance, give a speech and his blessing for the coming winter, and then the feast would begin. This grand dinner would go throughout the night and into the early morning, with more than enough food and alcohol to satisfy the masses provided by the castle.
Though it had only been a few years since the tradition had begun, its rise in popularity had been swift and widespread. People would come from all over the land just to partake in the joyous occasion, and get a piece of the financial opportunities that it offered.
During this time, Inns would become so crowded that people even took the opportunity to rent out rooms in their own homes to travelers. It was even common for those intending to sell to camp out with their traveling carts and stalls in the surrounding woods during the week leading up to the festival, so common that there were designated areas marked and prepped for them nearly a month in advance.
Gem never really got to enjoy the festival as the celebration that it was, preferring to act more as security so as to ensure that things didn’t get too out of hand, but it was still something that she looked forward to every year. It was one of many highlights that came from living in the capital. It reminded her of who she was here for, who she spent every day of her life training and fighting to protect.
It wasn’t too long ago that this land would have been rife with paranoia and poverty, the war having taken its toll on the people and the land itself. Gem basked in every second of the happiness that she could, while also remaining vigilant that nothing disturbed it. She would do anything to ensure that this time of peace lasted.
“I’m going to split off here,” Scott said, interrupting her thoughts. He jabbed his thumb over to the left of the path they were walking to indicate where he was going, “I think Jimmy’s stall is somewhere over there. I’m going to go see if I can haggle him out of some of the high-quality leather he sells before it is all snatched up. Assuming it hasn’t been already”
“Alright, we will see you at the feast.” Impulse said, giving him a rough pat on the shoulder as a farewell.
“Don’t forget to actually do your job while you’re at it.” Gem teased, punching him in the shoulder. She then motioned for two of the other knights to break off from the group to accompany Scott, and motioned for two others to go in the opposite direction, where she knew more knights were already patrolling. She didn’t want them too split up lest something happen and they need numbers, but it is never a bad idea to have eyes in more places.
“You know me, I’ve always got an eye out,” Scott replied.
“Give Jimmy and Tango my greetings” Gem cheerfully told him as he began to walk away, only to be met with a grimace thrown over his shoulder at her. She laughed at the expression. She knew that Scott’s relationship with his friend's partner was strained and awkward at best, and it was too much fun to tease him about it.
“I think I’m going to head over to my parents' cart. Would you like to come with me?” Impulse asked, looking around the crowded area to try and spot them over the masses.
“I think I am going to hang around the stage. A vast majority of fights always seem to break out in or around this area, so it is best I stay here for now.” Gem said, crossing her arms and scanning the crowd for anything, or anyone, that might be out of place.
“I know we’re here to keep an eye on things, but do try to have a little bit of fun, alright? This is, after all, a celebration!” Impulse insisted, gesturing towards the festivities with a broad sweep of his arms.
“I will do as I please. Give your mothers' my greetings, yes?” Gem asked, shooing him away and sending an extra knight after him with a gesture of her hand.
“Will do!” He gave her a two fingered salute before jogging away.
Gem would not lie and say she had not been tempted to go see Impulse’s parents with him. They were lovely people who adored her and always “snuck” handfuls of candy into the pockets of her dress when she wasn’t looking, but she had meant it when she said the city square and the stage were where 90% of the festival's problems broke out before the feast began, second only to the alcohol booths. Regardless of how rare issues actually were, though, she really would prefer to stay close so she can break up any altercations before they had a chance to escalate
She did, however, make a pit stop over to one of the meat carts to buy her and the remaining knights with her a rabbit and potato skew from one of the stands a little ways away from the center of the festival. It was a divine bit of food, and she would be a fool to not get some before it was all sold out. The bread roll she had snagged from the kitchen had done little to satiate her hunger and it would be foolish to work on an empty stomach, she reasoned as she thumbed coins over to the vendor and was handed a couple of skewers in return for her payment.
She distributed them among her remaining knights and then took a big bite out of the hearty meat as she led the way back towards the stage, just in time to catch the start of the next performance.
A stout young woman in a short sleeved, rose pink dress made her way up onto the stage with a bright smile on her face. A man followed behind her with a staff in his hand, and Gem grew giddy with excitement as she realized where this performance may be going. The man went down onto one knee and offered the woman the staff , which she accepted with a deep bow before he rushed off the stage.
She raised the staff, made of wood old and brittle with a glittering jewel entrapped in its spiraled tip, up towards the sky, and the crowd waited with bated breath. She whispered something under her breath, so quiet that it was sure not a soul in the crowd had heard her, but Gem watched her lips form the words, and she knew what was coming next.
For a moment nothing happened, and then light burst forth from the tip of the staff up into the sky in a coil of glittering gold. The strings of light rippled through the air before coming together to form the image of a bird big and grand, which spread its magneficent wings and flew over the crowd with a brilliant wooshing sound. The crowd screamed with delight and laughter as the bird let out a tremendous caw. It rose high into the sky before turning abruptly and diving straight for the stage floor. It exploded as it made contact with the ground, sending glittering shimmers of light, almost like millions of miniature stars, all across the wooden planks.
The crowd erupted into raucous cheers, which Gem joined in on, holding the now bare wooden skew in between her teeth in order to do so. The woman, her smiling face now red and shiny with sweat, bowed once more, holding her staff out to the side of her and placing a hand over her heart as she did so. She took a moment to wave to the crowd before rushing off stage to make way for the next performer.
What a brilliant performance, Gem thought. Magic in this day and age was a rare sight to see, so even simple spells like that were enough to leave most in awe.
Gem couldn’t even imagine what it had been like back in the day, when magic was rampant and widespread across the lands, when things like this were commonplace and about as impressive as someone tying their boots. Gem was well versed in what little there was to be known about magic, and it wasn’t a lot. There were very little records of that time long past, only a few books here, the odd fairytale there. There was barely even enough to tell the people of today that there was once a period of time where magic ruled the lands, and no one exactly knows what happened to it.
Now there were barely any folks left with any sort of magical inclination about them at all, and those who did had so little of it that they were barely able to do simple illusion spells like the one Gem just saw without being left utterly exhausted by their efforts.
She watched several more performances after this, ranging from a man who juggled an armful of colourful balls, a woman who balanced herself on the tip of a tall, slim poll, a woman who sang a beautiful song accompanied by her husband’s lute, a man who did a magic trick involving balls of fire, and many more.
Hours had passed and the next performer was just about to come up onto the stage when Gem caught something out of the corner of her eye. A swish of red fabric that was all too familiar to her; one of the reasons she always preferred to stay on her toes.
She inhaled sharply through her nose, sparks of anger already kindling in her chest as she whipped around to ensure it was who she thought it was, and without a doubt, it was him. There he was, standing there so close to the stage it would be no problem at all for him to climb upon it should he so wish to. He was eyeing the performer with an almost bored expression. Even with what little anonymity that stupid hood of his offered him, she would recognize him anywhere.
She marched towards the person, her hand moving towards her sword despite knowing she could not, and would not, use it in such a crowded space. Not when so many innocent lives were at risk of getting caught in the crossfire.
His head turned in her direction, his inky black eyes lighting up with amusement as he spotted her, a smirk spread across his bird-like face. He turned away and took off into the crowd, and Gem gave chase without a second thought.
He weaved through the crowd faster and faster, seamlessly avoiding bumping into people as he moved in a way not too dissimilar to a snake in the grass. She shouldered past people, yelling quick apologies to those who shouted in protest as she tried to keep up with the smaller man, his distinctive red cloak being the only thing that allowed her to keep sight of him through the tightly packed crowd.
He led her all the way towards the bustling merchant’s area. This part of the festival was full of richly coloured fabrics that were folded neatly along the surface of the carts that sold them, and there was a large variety of rare clothing article, which hung from racks in tidy rows on either side of her, easy to knock down and cause a fuss should she not move carefully. The air was thick with perfumes and the smell of dye, the scent thick and almost overpowering to her hard-working lungs as she ran through the area with delicate movements. He threw her a devious smile over his shoulder as he ducked under a rack of brightly coloured scarves, which she darted around, knowing she would not make it under.
She wasn’t a fool, she knew this was a game to him, and she wasn’t going to let him keep playing it.
The crowd was beginning to thin the further they got away from bustling city square, giving her the opportunity to increase her speed at last. Her armor rattled as she pushed herself to catch up to the nimble man, her blood rushing through her ears and her heart racing loudly. He attempted to duck into an alleyway, but she followed after before he could escape, turning sharply on her heels. She grabbed the back of his cloak, pulling him backwards and his hood down.
She ducked as a set of razor sharp talons ripped towards her face, messy pieces of her hair whipping past her field of vision as she grabbed the man’s wrist, bringing her palm up swiftly into his gut. He gasped as the air was knocked out of his small body. She took the opportunity to swing around into a kick, and her boot would have connected with his neck had he not raised his arms into a protective position in order to block the blow in the last moment. It was still enough to send him to the ground, however, and he hit the cobble with a bounce that sent him rolling.
He used the momentum to flip himself up into a crouching position, blood running down his chin from where he had presumably bit his tongue. His expression was still somewhat playful, but now had a much more serious glint to it. He kept his talons at the ready to counter Gem’s next attack, his body tense with anticipation. His sharp eyes were taunting her, waiting for her to make the next move as he always did.
“Grian.” She said, her hand on the hilt of her sword, ready to draw it at any moment.
“Commander” He said in turn, tilting his head unnaturally to the side, much like the owl he shared his attributes with.
“What are you doing here?” She asked, looking down her nose at him, her thumb inching her sword out of the sheath.
“Is it a crime to enjoy a national holiday like every other citizen in the kingdom?” He questioned in an almost teasing manner.
“Enough of your games! It is no mere coincidence that you would show up today of all days after months of silence.” Gem snapped, her shoulders rising in turn with the bubbling anger in her heart.
Grian, a slippery, troublemaking avian that she had been butting heads with on a near regular basis ever since she was a bright eyed squire fresh off of the snowy mountain she called home, eager to prove herself in her search for glory.
He had made his entrance into her life in a flashy and grand fashion that was bound to leave an impression on just about anyone; an explosion in the castle's courtyard. It had been small, only enough to take out a tiny portion of the wall. It had been so clearly a distraction, but after years of war, it had been enough to cause a panic that only Gem had been levelheaded enough to power her way through. It was her quick wit that allowed her to act swiftly in the face of potential danger, and her friendly and outgoing personality that let her realize she’d never seen his face around the castle before and clock that he was an intruder. She’d taken him down before he was able to do whatever it was that he was planning to do inside of the castle, but he’d still managed to escape in the end.
Along with an increase in security and guards stationed on the outer walls, the royal army gained another knight that day. Ironic that it would be the man who would come to torment her any chance he could in the near future that would see to it that she was promoted early in her career.
They met many times after that first initial encounter, and with each one it only became obvious that his goal from the very beginning was to tear down the Wintertide royal bloodline at any cost and destroy the peace she tried so hard to protect.
He sought to create chaos and disorder within the kingdom, and he would stop at nothing to see these goals met. It was only natural that they would become rivals, enemies that would be at constant odds with each other until the end of all things. Time and time again he would make his move against the royal family, and she was always there to put an end to it. It was an endless dance that they seemed to be trapped in indefinitely, for better or for worse.
As the years passed, he shifted his focus from the castle and the king to something else, something more attainable. He would commonly be found in the streets, yelling about injustices to anyone who would give him an ear.
At first, no one would pay him any mind, and he would always make a break for it the second Gem showed up to put a stop to his public disturbances. Over time, however, as taxes were raised to cover the costs of damages done to the land and economy by the war, and tensions between their neighbouring kingdom rose yet again, his ideals slowly but surely gained more and more popularity. People were moved by his cause, rallied by a hatred for a monarchy they felt provided them very little protection or surety in their time of unrest.
Suddenly he wasn’t a single person acting alone anymore; he was the leader of a group they had no way of knowing the scope of.
They had tried to take him and his mysterious resistance down for years now, but by some feat of the gods they had managed to avoid detection, as well as capture, the entire time. Even now, it is unknown just how large his resistance is, or the names of those who operate within it, making it difficult to do anything in opposition to the group. They had only a few names for certain they could connect to him, but they have all been as untraceable as he. Every tip and clue that came Gem's way only led to empty houses and cellars with nothing but clearly fake plans and documents within them that led her and her men right back to where they had started; with nothing at all.
All of this to say that he and his group are dangerous, effective people who should not be taken lightly, and his presence at The Festival of Good Tides bore nothing but ill tidings.
The avian sighed in an overly dramatic, fake manner, no doubt playing it up to get a rise out of her. She was ashamed to admit that it worked.
“Fine, I suppose there is no point in hiding it from you,” He said, his face once again breaking into a wide smile, “I was looking for you, actually. I knew if I showed up to the festival you would find me within seconds and pursue me until you had me in your grasp.”
“And, why, in god's name, were you seeking to put yourself right into my hands? A bit of a foolish thing to do, if you ask me. You know as well as I do that you are no match for me, birdy.” She taunted.
She swiftly pulled her sword from its sheath and put the tip of the blade to his unprotected neck. It was just long enough for her to close the distance between them without having to take so much as a step closer. His expression remained unbothered and playful, despite the obvious threats to his life.
“I wanted to give you a fair warning,” He replied cryptically.
“What in the hells does that mean?” She questioned, hackles once again rising.
“Something big is coming, Gem.” He answered. His eyes were wide and excited, almost manic even, as he said this. She had never seen him like this before in all her years knowing him.
“Something big? What in the blazes are you on about?” She asked, unease settling in her stomach like a heavy stone at the words
“You would do well to prepare yourself while you still can.” He said instead of giving her a real answer, “For all of our back and forth, I do not hate you. It would sure be a shame if something were to happen to you that could have been avoided.”
“Your mad rambles make little sense. Explain yourself before I have your head!” She threatened, pushing the tip of the sword against his throat further.
“I’m afraid I can’t tell you anymore than I already have, but you’ll find out in due time, believe in that. The end might be closer than you think.” He said, and her eyes widened, her mouth dropping open.
He took advantage of her brief shock to sweep his leg out faster than she could react. The hard, scaly part of his taloned foot grabbed a hold of her sword’s blade and wrenched the weapon out of her hands, sending it to the ground with a metallic clatter. She shouted in alarm and leaped towards the fallen sword in an attempt to regain control of the situation, but before she could even get close, Grian pulled a bottle out from somewhere within his cloak and smashed it against the ground at her feet.
There was a flash and a popping noise following the shattering of the glass, and thick smoke billowed out around them, obscuring her vision and filling her nose with the overbearing smell of sulfur. Her eyes burned, watering fiercely as she coughed, trying to clear her lungs of the smoke.
She waved the air in front of her, looking around frantically for the avian but seeing not a single sign of him. There wasn’t so much as a feather on the ground, nor where there any footprints in the grime showing where he’d taken off to. All there was in the now vacant cobble alley was her sword, flat against the ground where it had fallen.
“Gem!” She heard someone call out to her from behind.
She turned to find Impulse rushing towards her. He looked frantic, out of breath. A few other soldiers trailed behind him, visibly on edge as they looked around the smokey alley. Her old friend hurried to her side, grabbing her face and brushing a strand of hair out of her eyes as he turned her side to side to check for injuries.
She pulled away from him, wordlessly moving over to her abandoned sword and picking it up from the ground. She examined the blade before turning her eyes up to the sky, where the smoke was still spiraling up towards the clear blue expanse.
“The men that were stationed with you came to me in a frenzy and said you took off in a rush. They said may be in need of some help, and the thought of you of all people needing help against something on its own is a frightening, so I came as soon as I could.” Impulse said from behind her. “What happened?
“It was Grian.” She said, turning towards him. Then, as an afterthought, she tacked on, “And I didn’t need any help. You know me.”
“It hardly matters to me how strong you are, I will always worry for you regardless. It is in my nature.” He said with a smile, which dropped into a more serious look, “But, Grian, you say? Has he not been off the radar for months now? What’s he doing back in the capital on today of all day? Surely he is up to no good.”
She sheathed her sword, taking a moment to wonder if she should share the cryptid warning that the avian had given her. Her eyes flickered over to the nervous knights standing behind her friend. They were clearly new, fresh out of being squires if she had to take a guess. It was highly probable that they would panic upon hearing information such as this. Besides, anything pertaining to Grian and his resistance was more classified than what she was willing to share with just anyone. She would prefer to inform the king of the news, as well, and it was almost nightfall anyway so his arrival to the festival site was fast approaching. It was best she not have to repeat herself when handling such delicate information. You never know who may be listening.
“I think it would be wiser if I don’t share that with so many ears around. This is information better shared to a smaller group.” She informed him. He glanced back at the soldiers behind him and nodded in understanding.
“Let us return to the festival, this time with eyes and ears more focused.” She said, "If he shows his face again, he will not be getting away so easily a second time."
She turned on her heels and deftly made her way back towards the crowded square, the others following after all. She held her head high, posture straight and professional, but underneath the facade was a twisting feeling of unease that she couldn’t get rid of, and which threatened to force her lunch to make a second appearance.
Her mind was racing, her chest was tight. What could her longtime rival have meant with that threat? No, that had been more of a promise than it had been a threat. But a promise of what, she didn’t know, and that is what scared her. Whatever it was that he had in store for the kingdom of Wintertide, he was so incredibly certain of its success that he was willing to seek her out to personally tell her of its existence.
Either he was a fool, or there was something to truly worry about afoot, and something told her it was the latter since she had never known Grian to be a stupid man.
In fact he was quite the dangerous person.
A harmless person could not gain the following and influence that he had over people in such a short time as he had. Even when the people above her had thought of him as little more than a fly buzzing in their ear, she had always taken every move he made seriously. She would be a fool herself not to treat him as the treat he really was.
If anything, she was surprised it had taken so long for him to make his move. With the reach and numbers he seemed to have within the capital it was a wonder something “big” had yet to happen. Why now of all times? What was his game?
She looked over her shoulder at the abandoned alley one last time, her expression hardening into a determined glare. Even with her worry, she knew one thing for certain; whatever it may be that he was planning, she would put an end to it.
He would not succeed.
                                                ❀     ❀     ❀
“Was it necessary to toy with her like that?” His hooded companion asked from beside him, tone high and amused.
Grian stood upon the roof, the smoke bomb having given him just enough time to escape out of view. His cloak fluttered in the wind behind him and his hands clenched into fists, his sharp nails digging into his palms. His expression was blank, his black eyes watching as the commander of the royal army grew smaller the further she got from them. She’d almost seen him when she glanced back. Almost, but not quiet.
“Not that I am complaining,” His companion pushed further upon not receiving a response, “It is rather funny, I must admit.”
“I am not toying with her,” He stated, not daring to take his eyes off of the commander until she was well out of view, “It was a real warning.”
“Even worse,” Was the reply, which was then followed by a laugh, “Now she’ll be wary, more prepared than she would have had you said nothing at all. I have to agree with the Commander on this one, Grian, this seems an odd move to make so early into the plan. After all of the work we put into this, it seems entirely counterproductive. Are you not worried she could put an end to this all before it has even begun?”
“Let her try and interfere,” He said, a smile spreading across his face as the wind picked up speed, “There will be no stopping what is to come.”

Hey! I’ve spent like an hour religiously reading your works! Could I get a Husk x fem! Cat demon! Reader who was his medic when he fought in the war, and they fell in love only for him to die- and he recognizes her after he catches her humming a song she used to sing to him? Like a heartfelt reunion? It’s super cheesy and long! Feel free to ignore!
☕️-anon
I feel so honored uwu I've had this blog running for over a year and a half so some of my work is trash but I'm glad you like it! This turned into more of a fanfic with plot points than headcanons but enjoy lol
-”da-da-da-da, mm-mm,” you hummed to yourself in the infirmary, all alone. You were waiting to treat the injured from the current war going on and were demanded to stay in your quarters. You couldn’t find anything to entertain yourself with so you decided to hum that little tune you and your boyfriend, who only went by Husk, loved to hear.
-you were snooping through a filing cabinet, reading classified documents as you usually did, when a soldier no older than 19 burst into your office, sweating, eyes bulged. Before you could ask what was wrong two other soldiers dragged in none other than Husk who, despite bleeding heavily and leaning on one side, demanded to walk. You didn't bother closing the cabinet before rushing to see him.
-laying him down on a gurney you inspected Husk. He had a bullet wound that pierced through his liver. The liver wasn't elastic enough to handle a bullet wound. Judging by how bloodied up Husk was you guessed his liver had practically exploded from the impact.
-you began stuffing the wound with whatever gauze you could find, trying to staunch the bleeding. In the back of your head you knew it was futile but you knew you'd never be able to live with yourself if you hadn't at least tried.
-as you were rolling up another bundle of gauze to push into the wound Husk grabbed you by your arm gently, weakly. He gave you the softest, sweetest of smiles and told you bluntly, "you're too late". You were hyperventilating at this point, tears falling down your face, fighting to see clearly so you could continue to stuff the wound. You turned to face the three soldiers behind you. "The fuck are you doing standing around like a bunch of twats, do something!" But none of them moved, only grabbing their hats and placing said hats over their hearts. You turned around to continue your process and you were met with glassy eyes staring at nothing, blood still oozing lazily from his gunshot wound.
-it was after Husk's death that you left the army. You couldn't bear to watch another person die because of your incompetence. Similar to Husk who could beat anyone in a drinking contest, you became an alcoholic, trying to drink down the pain. You died at a shockingly young age due to liver failure from all your drinking.
-when you died you arrived in Hell, a pink cat demon complete with a collar. You thought it was silly but went with it. You spent about a year walking the streets, humming that little tune Husk loved so much. There's no way such a perfect being could have ended up down here but you held hope.
-late one night you were walking home from the store, humming as usual. The older demons and Hellborns came to recognize you for humming the same song. You never told them why, you just said you liked it.
-during your walk home you saw a familiar face clad in red - one of the Overlords, trying to score a deal with some poor sap. It wasn't your business and you didn't want it to be your business so you continued on, humming as per usual.
-this caught the attention of the cat demon next to the Overlord, Alastor, who ran to you. He almost crashed into you, making you drop some bananas in the process. He helped you pick everything up, and you asked him what he wanted with you.
-"that song, I've heard it before. Where did you learn it?" His eyes were round and pleading. You shrugged casually. "It's...just a song my boyfriend liked me to sing before he died." You replied. You'd never told a soul about that before. His breathing hitched. "Was he in a war?" he asked a little too hopefully. Awkwardly you nodded. Before you could ask how he knew, Alastor called out, "we're leaving Husker!" You blinked in surprise. Husker...? Husk?
-"I know it sounds crazy and it sure fucking is but, I think I'm your boyfriend who died," Husk explained quickly. You quirked an eyebrow. "Oh yeah? What's one thing only my boyfriend would know?" You inquired with a crass smirk. "Uh let's see...you never liked apple pie because when your dad baked it it always came out sour, and you sometimes stole your dad's cigarettes," he replied. Holy shit, no one else knew that. "Is it really you, [Y/N]?" he inquired hopefully. You nodded your head slowly.
"It's nice to finally meet you again."

you could read this fic on AO3 too <3 ´´el sin nombre escape´´by lesvi
hello <3 here to do gods work cause there like few pics of Valeria x fem!reader out here, why is no one doing more of lovely el sin nombre, im such a lesbian for her lord. amor de mi vida fr fr. English is not my first language so please tell me if I used something incorrectly thanks!
*flashbacks to the capture of El sin nombre*
``How do you two know each other?´´.
Graves said while grabbing a chair for Valeria, demanding her to sit down, waiting for an answer from Alejandro.
´´Know is a strong word´´.
Y/N could hear some of the conversation from outside the room, you knew some things here and there when she spent more time on places and conversations you shouldn't have heard, just for curiosity, about this big mission, the unit was going after Las Almas cartel. If you asked Y/N 10 years ago where she saw herself in the future, the army wasn't specially the best thing you had planned for your future, but oh well here you are, hearing some unpleasant conversation the boys really were angry about. You could hear Alejandro practically snapping back to Graves, at least you weren't the man they just captured, was it?.
´´Las palabras fuertes son importantes, nuestra palabra es nuestro valor.´´
You heard a feminine voice, but from where? You did recognize it from somewhere…no way, valeria?. You accidentally open the door from the room and you could see the boys staring at you.
“Dios, Y/N this is not a place for you right now, it’s dangerous go back to your assigned work” Alejandro talked back with a seriously cold attitude.
All you could do is stare, no feelings, no movements, no nothing, plain stare right through your so called girlfriend. She was sitting down in a chair, you didn’t say anything of course you didn’t want to ruin her safety… or yours.
Valeria stared back at you in disbelief all these months of you two spending time with each other without mentioning each other's jobs has finally come to the answers why. You left in a hurry trying to process what the fuck just happen.
``No me jodas, valeria? Es el sin nombre…´´ (No fucking way, valeria is El Sin nombre?).
Y/N was rushing through the whole base, trying to stay away as far as she could from Valeria and the whole mess it caused, will this mean they could hurt her? I mean Alejandro could never, but as far as she knew 141 was going for this so called mission to take el sin nombre down, sure she knew soap, but ghost, especially graves, wasn't so sure after all you been a year in the base she couldn't possibly know that much about the boys.
overthinking again.
But was if they hurt her.
What if they hurt Valeria?.
You couldn't bear the thoughts of her girlfriend pleading for help, sure by now this meant if you were going to save Valeria. This action will have consequences, but you'll do anything for her, even if this means your safety and job are compromised. Y/N needed a plan, and a good one if she wanted to get Valeria out and safe, is better if you do what you does the best, watch from afar and seek an opening for, to act out. So that's what you did, you watched from a distance a close room near where they kept valeria, to be exact it was in front the building cell Valeria was, Y/N was called to clean some gunship it was perfect time since from a window you could see the building Valeria was captive, you needed to act now cause they will move Valeria to a more high security cell, waiting for the man to come out, her number one priority was going to be valeria.
Waited until the sun started coming down, the base was highly alert but at this point more calmed
Y/N placed some guns down that were finished cleaning, grabbed her bag with some clothes, a small pistol, and food, after all just in case someone saw her she needed to run too. Rushing to the building Valeria was, she analyzed some movements from afar so she wouldn't get caught, she charged through the stairs trying to make little to none noise at all. Walking reading the number of the cells, she overheard Valeria cell number actually, finally something she can work out.
``Cell 366… where are you Val?..´´Y/N hummed.
Lost in her thoughts, you still had no clue what you're gonna tell valeria, oh hey i know you're a drug dealer, war criminal, terrorist, but oh well still love you? Don't kill me?. That was stupid, but you still fought, maybe just maybe, Valeria was still there, the thought of her valeria, sweet and harsh woman, Y/N knew Valeria job wasn't a normal job after all, but never like this. This will either end in you being killed or seriously hurt physically or mentally. What if you were just a toy for valeria, a pretty doll she could use for some months then get rid of, after all she had money, Valeria could get anything she wanted, Y/N was probably easy to replace.
366.
You were here, Y/N panted, didn't even know how many stairs you rushed through  to get here, is now or never, grabbed the key you stole from some asleep soldier to open the cell door. Quickly, big footsteps were from across the room, closer and closer each time, until you finally opened the cell.
Y/N was pinned down to a wall, the grip from a hand into your face, blocking you to speak, the door closed by now, so whatever guard just passed by didnt even notice you. Your chest going up and down, breathing hard, your heart pounding, is this probably the end?, Valeria could easily kill you by now and get through the door.
´´Y/N?...´´Valeria looked back at you.
She loses her grip and takes steps back to give you space. Her gaze softened as soon as she saw it was actually you and not some nasty old man trying to get information from her by whipping her to the ground.
``Valeria, dios mio que te hicieron?´´ (Valeria, my god what they did to you?)
You placed a hand into her bleeding bicep, Valeria hissed in pain.
´´Im sorry, i should've come earlier and stop them´´ Y/N said.
You looked back worrying about Valerias wounds, they weren't that bad, or fatal, but that will for sure leave marks. Valeria cupped your face with her hands.
´´No. mi vida, i already told you i'd never involucrate you in my… job, i want you safe´´
´´Val i need to get you out of here, the things i've heard from disgusting man, i'm scared, i just wanna go back to your room… you and i having a safe and quiet place´´
You fought the tears back, it wasn't the moment to look weak, not in front from el sin nombre.
``I- i don't even know how i got here i practically zoned out the whole trip, i just– you're the whole reason why los vaqueros were after.. el sin nombre´´
You practically whispered the last name, a part of you was still in disbelief, but the other part was still in love of Valeria Garza, El sin nombre was just another person for you.
´´Dont.´´ Valeria looked right through you
´´Don't what?´´you reply back, confused.
´´Don't say the name like that– like if is another person Y/N, that also me, that also Valeria, didn't i told you? it was complicated when you asked where i go those days i'm not home, where i work, im El Sin Nombre.´´
Valeria pinned you down to the wall yet again, focusing her gaze on you, right through you. Shit. How you loved her gaze all over your body. Your breathing accelerated again, both faces so close, you evaded her gaze, facing down.
´´I- I know…’’ Y/N  mumbled.
Valeria lifts an eyebrow, she's testing you.
´´Oh really.?´´ Valeria reply back.
Grabbing a strand of your hair, by her hands, putting it close to her face.
´´Why are you nervous then, cariño?´´ Valeria said with a cocky grin.
One hand pinned into the wall blocking you to move, the other was starting to move through your body, slowed down to your waist, she started drawing patterns. Your whole body had a slight shiver, one thing you loved about her is the way she handles you, the way she make you lose everything.
´´You know… the moment i saw you staring back at me, i couldn't read you, not at all, for a moment i was genuinely scared, petrified, not for the place i was, but for you, i thought you hated me. You don't, do you?´´
Valeria said, placing her hand into Y/N inner thigh.
``Id never hate you, amor´´
´´Belive me how bad i want you to fuck me right now, but is getting late we need to get out of here´´. Y/N said.
Valeria hummed back, placing her hand into the seam of your pants.
´´I don't think so, after all you owe me you didn't come earlier, remember?´´ Valeria mumbled into your ear, sending shivers all over your body.
She came closer and kissed your lips, it started slow, but quickly escalated into a passionate kiss, she grabbed your ass and took you to the bed in her cell. She placed you down.
´´How much i missed you cielo, you're mine now´´ Valeria said.
Pinning you down to the hard mattress, she was on top of you, adrenaline hitting you up, you were about to get literally fucked in a cell, wasnt the best place but you needed her so bad, after all you havent seen her in weeks, since she was scaping from the military.
She kissed your chest, grabbing your shirt by the hem and folding it up to get it out of you, kissing you from the neck mumbling sweet nothings in spanish. You noticed her hand drawing patterns in your abdomen slowly going lower, she looked at you asking for permission, you hummed in response.
Her hand lowed down to your underwear.
´´Me nesecitas tanto amor?, you're so wet just for me´´ (Do you need me that much?)
You whimper when you felt her hand press against your wetness , she usually teases you, but now you're both as needy.
`´Oh, please, I- val i need you..´´you moaned into her ear.
``I know cariño.. Just be patient and we will have more time alone back at my place, huh? How you like that´´.
She slides her finger inside your underwear, you moaned in response, started doing an up and down motion.
``Hmm, you know i missed you so much…´´ Valeria gazes you up and down, pulling her hand from your underwear drawing circles in your breasts.
´´What if we continue this back home amor?´´. Valeria said.
You couldn't speak, just nodded, the way this woman had so much power over you, you know you loved her so much, you'll kill for her, and you knew she would do the same for  you too.

Bangtan Baby: The New Arrival
Tumblr media
They were told labour could take anywhere from eight hours to nineteen when it came to the first child. It was going to be a long and painful process, where all you could do was wait and breathe and push when the time came to it. Grace’s mother took twelve hours to deliver Grace, and Seokjin’s mother took twenty hours. Either way, it was going to take a bit of time.
Grace had been in labour for 48 hours before the doctor delivered the news she could start pushing and by that point, all she wanted to do was sleep and eat. The no eating was the hardest because she really wanted a greasy cheeseburger with extra pickles, curly fries that were covered in cheese and a big cup of fizzy cola. Throughout her whole pregnancy, she had been careful with what she had eaten though being on the road with a long tour meant homecooked meals were out of the question.
But it was all worth it.
The delivery room was quiet now, the midwife in charge had done her final pieces of paperwork and clean up and checks and left the new family to it. The last fifty hours had nothing but machine beeps, the door being constantly opened with nurses and doctors and family, sounds of life going on outside and then the sounds of a baby being born.
Tired eyes glanced over to the large windows where Seokjin was cradling his first child close to his chest, pointing to the world that knew nothing of the important arrival. Life went on in Seoul, though the most important people had been on call and waiting. Six men had been by their phones in the midst of practice, waiting for the news that would make them drop everything. Bang PD had also been asking for regular updates and the grandparents had been in and out of the delivery suite all day.
Grace’s mother had been by her side as had Seokjin, the two never leaving and taking it in turns to stay up with Grace during her contractions. They two had worked well as a team of constant support - breathing, massages, walking Grace around to help get those contractions going, lifting legs, helping to make trips to the bathroom.
Now the grandparents were off for some well earned rest.
“How you feeling?”
Grace focused her eyes and it took her moment to answer, letting out a large yawn instead. “Tired, very sore. But happy.”
“I bet. That was probably worse than one of Hobi’s dance practices,” Seokjin commented. The baby in his arms fussed for a second and he paused, holding his breath until he and the baby relaxed.
“See, knew you’d be a natural,” grinned Grace as she shifted in the bed. She couldn’t wait for a hot bath and a hair wash and that greasy burger.
“I haven’t tried doing the nappies yet,” the new father sighed and sat down in the chair next to Grace who laughed softly and closed her eyes. “Why don’t you get some sleep? Me and the munchkin will be alright.”
“Muchkin? Nicknames already?” Her eyes were closed but she was still awake, grinning at the thought.
“I’m working on it,” Seokjin shrugged. “I’m not letting Jungkook beat me to it.”
“Uncle Kookie,” Grace muttered under her breath and Seokjin knew she was starting to fall asleep.
“Hmm, she’s certainly going to have her hands full with uncles and saying their names.” Of course, the baby in his arms didn’t care that she had six famous uncles, a famous father and a famous mother. Right now, baby was content to sleep in her father’s arms, completely unaware of what was going to be awaiting her when she woke up.
But she was finally here and Jin sighed happily, breathing in that new baby smell. His daughter was all his now and he’d be there every step of the way to introduce her to this new strange world and to the ARMY who were waiting patiently for her arrival.
The perfect representation of a couple fully in love, of six uncles who already adored her and of a fanbase of whom she was named after.

“Hello. This is Jungkook,” he said into the camera.
He turned over to me and I rushed from the corner of my room where I was setting my stuff down, practically jumping into the camera frame.
“And, I’m Y/n,” I exclaimed happily, making Jungkook chuckle.
We were about to head over to Budapest, Hungary, to film a music video for Jungkook’s title track, Standing Next to You. He thought it would be a great time to film some of the process, so… that’s what we’re doing.
I was initially hesitant to film with him when he asked because I wanted it to be all about him and not just a travel vlog among friends, but after the constant pleas and countless puppy dog eyes, I finally agreed to feature.
After my introduction to the camera I went back to sift through my stuff to make sure I haven’t forgotten anything while Jungkook explained what he was making and why he was making it.
Everything was accounted for on my end so I took out my phone and went to sit on the couch while I waited.
“There’s so many things I need to pack! We have an hour before we leave,” he panicked as he started darting around his apartment to gather things to pack into his luggage.
I looked up from my phone, “Kook, this trip has been on your schedule for weeks and I literally reminded you to pack yesterday. What did you do?”
He paused folding a shirt to look at me. “Went live with ARMY,” he said, pulling his lips down into a “frown” like he usually does when he's guilty of something.
I laughed at his silliness, knowing that he didn’t really feel guilty when it came to not doing something because he went live for his fans.
“That was your fault so I’m not gonna help you pack.”
I went back to scrolling through my phone.
He was back to running around his apartment by the time I checked the time and started to gather my bags before calling out, “Hurry up, you have five minutes!”
I placed my bags near the door, then walked over to his desk, grabbing the tripod and moving it to the table near the door.
He rushed out with his bags, placing them next to mine before running back to his room and emerging with a jean jacket in hand.
He came to stand next to me and spoke to the camera while fixing his jacket, “Alright, let’s head out! Let’s go!”
~
“Now boarding for Budapest,” a man said over the PA system.
Jungkook and I gathered our things and headed for the flight attendant’s desk so we could get our tickets verified. When we were given the “all clear” we started for the airplane.
We got on the plane and looked for our seats right away since the managers said they would take care of storing our carry-ons.
“Here we go,” I said as I found our seats.
I shuffled over to the window seat that was located on the left side of the airplane.
I smiled as I looked out at the runway until I heard the sound of lip smacking followed closely with a whine, “Why do you get the window seat?”
I looked over at Jungkook, “Because I got here first.”
He looked like he didn’t like my answer and brought out his ticket and pointed to the number.
“See I’m technically supposed to have the window, “ he said matter-of-factly.
I deadpanned, “Are you seriously using technicalities to get the window seat?”
He nodded.
I sighed, “Fine, but you owe me. Got it?”
He smiled and gave me a little salute. I motioned for him to stand up and get out of the row so we could exchange seats. When we finally sat down, he looked out the window and giggled happily. A smile crept onto my face as I softly scoffed at his reaction.
He turned back to me with a grin, “Thank you!”
I playfully rolled my eyes and dug around my bag, looking for a little go pro Jungkook gave me for the trip.
I turned it on once I found it and made sure it was recording, then I turned it over to him, “Do you have anything to say?”
He looked at the camera, then at me, then back at the camera before saying, “The view from the window seat is amazing!”
I scoffed as I punched his arm, to which he laughed at and held where I hit him.
I positioned the camera so we were both in frame.
“Yeah, the window seat that you stole from me,” I exclaimed.
We slowly looked at each other. We made eye contact for a moment before we burst out into laughter.
“I get the window seat on the way back, okay?” I held out my pinky to him.
He linked his pinky with mine, “Promise.”
I turned off the camera as the flight attendants started to go through the standard procedures if anything were to happen during the flight.
A few moments after they were done, the seatbelt light was turned on and the plane started to move toward the end of the runway, preparing to take off.
Although I had been on countless plane rides because of my job, the moments before take-off never failed to make me a little nervous. I was lost in thought until I felt a finger poke my arm.
I turned to Jungkook, “Hm?”
“I asked if you were okay.”
“Oh! Yeah I’m fine,” I said.
He squinted his eyes at me.
“You’re nervous, aren’t you?”
Confusion creeped onto my face. “How’d you know that?”
“Because you always fiddle with your bottom lip when you’re nervous,” he said as he pointed to my hand that was currently playing with said bottom lip.
I immediately took my hand away, letting it fall on my lap.
“Here,” he said, holding his right hand out for me to take.
“Thanks, Kook,” I said as I placed my hand in his.
As the plane started to take off, I turned his hand over so the tattoos faced me and started to gently trace over his ARMY tattoo in order to calm myself down.
“Anytime Y/n/n, “ he whispered.
~
“Y/n,” Jungkook drawed out, “Come with me to the gym.”
He was tugging on my arm, trying to get me off my bed and out of the hotel room.
“No,” I whined. “Why can’t you just go by yourself? I wanna laze around before tomorrow.”
“Because I need someone to record me,” he whined back, tugging harder.
“Dude, just bring your tripod! You don’t need me!”
I tugged my arm back and rolled over on the bed trying to get away from him. I didn’t do a very good job because he rounded the bed and met me at the other end. I stared up at him, unimpressed.
“Because I want to have someone to talk to,” he said, grabbing my hands and tugging me to sit up.
“Please,” he said, giving me his puppy dog eyes.
I narrowed my eyes for a moment before I turned away and sighed. “Fine.”
I got up from bed and made my way to the door where our shoes were. I slipped on my shoes while Jungkook held the door open. He handed me the camera when we stepped out of the room.
“You’ve gotta stop using your puppy dog eyes to get me to do things.” He laughed, “Well if it works, why would I stop?” I sighed. “You’re right…”
To say that I was bored is an understatement. Jungkook had been on the elliptical for about 45 minutes and I wanted nothing more than to go back to my room.
I stood up, grabbed the camera that was sitting next to me and walked over to where Jungkook was.
I held the camera up to record him.
“I’m tired,” he said breathlessly.
“And I’m bored. How much longer are you going to work out for,” I said, moving my head to the side away from the camera so he could see me.
“Gimme a sec.” He clicked some buttons on the elliptical before slowing down and hopping off.
He grabbed a towel and sat on the ground. I watched as he closed his eyes and sank down to lay on the floor. I smiled as I rolled my eyes at his overreaction and stood on top of him with the camera.
“Don’t overdo your workout… Or else you’ll be in trouble… Okay?”
I moved the camera very close to his face, almost bumping his nose. He opened his eyes and moved the camera to the side while a smile made its way on his face.
I laughed and stepped over him as he started to roll over to get up.
“Come on Muscle Bunny, you gotta get some rest before your shoot tomorrow.”
He looked up at me as I extended my hand to help him up.
“Okay,” he said as he took my hand.
“And go take a shower. You’re super sweaty,” I said, taking my hand back and drying it on my pants.
A smirk made its way on his lips before he lunged himself at me, wrapping me in his arms. I scrunched my face, trying to push him away from me before any more of his sweat could get on me.
“Stop! You’re hot and sweaty!”
“Yeah, but you still love me!”
~
“Who wakes up this early,” I yawned.
We arrived at the set of the Standing Next to You music video and were now in the hair and make-up trailer. I held up the camera to keep myself busy so I wouldn’t doze off. I looked at Jungkook who looked like he was dozing off too.
“Apparently not you. You still look half asleep,” I told him. He sleepily chuckled at my statement.
It didn’t take as long as I thought for make-up to be done, so when Jungkook changed into his first outfit, we were ready to head out. This was the first location that we would be shooting in, the tunnel, as I like to call it.
We were coming up to where the crew and other dancers were currently at when Jungkook turned to look at me.
“Are you recording?”
I nodded.
“Okay, watch this,” he said before he happily skipped away. I laughed at his silliness.
When we got to where the crew was, the director started telling Jungkook will be doing. Just walk forward.
“All I have to do is walk through it? What more is there to life,"he wondered.
“Life is about moving forward,” I said.
“Life is about moving forward,” he repeated, giving my hand that was holding the camera a little fist bump.
He started to record and it was really cool to watch the monitor versus just watching him perform regularly. Not saying that he wasn’t cool regardless if he was on camera or not, but you get what I mean.
The day went by smoothly. He completed filming for the regular music video then changed outfits for the choreography version. It was safe to say that he was tired by the end of the day.
We shot at two other locations over the next few days. The second location was mainly for the big dance break and some other non-dance scenes.
And that leads us to today. I wasn’t even sure what to call this place when I first stepped foot in the building. Turns out that it’s an abandoned power station.
Huh, cool.
I was sitting in one of the chairs scrolling through my phone just waiting for Jungkook to get back from wardrobe because he said had a “surprise” for me.
I couldn’t have been waiting for more than 5 minutes before I heard my name being called.
I looked in that direction to find Jungkook walking toward me. I almost knocked over the chair I was sitting on with how fast I got up. I rushed to Jungkook, who was wearing a black pinstripe suit with dark wings on his back.
“Cool, right?”
I was in awe. “This is insane, Kookie!”
I circled around him to see the full ensemble.
“Are they attached to the jacket itself,” I asked, curiously looking at where the wings attached to the back of the jacket.
“Mhmm,” he nodded triumphantly.
I moved to stand in front of him, still in awe of the wings.
“You are seriously the coolest person I know,” I said, looking between the wings and his face.
“I know.” He smiled down at me.
We stood there, unmoving, for a moment before the director called him over to start filming.
As he started to walk away I called his name, making him turn his head toward me.
“Knock ‘em dead, Kook!”
~
“I’m just saying, that feast was well deserved. I have been longing for grilled meat since the first meal I had. Why does everything have to be so healthy here?”
Jungkook chuckled, “I know how you feel.”
We walked out of the elevator as we headed toward our hotel room.
Once unlocked, we went inside, took off our shoes by the door, then I quickly plopped down on my bed ready to sleep off this very delicious meal.
Jungkook sat on his bed with his back resting on the headboard as he scrolled through his phone.
I grabbed one of my extra pillows, hugging it tightly, ready to happily doze off before Jungkook decided to speak up.
“Y/n/n?”
I hummed to let him know that I was still awake.
“What would you do if I asked you out?”
I opened my eyes, but I didn’t move from my position facing the wall.
I hummed in thought before answering, “I would probably say that you’re drunk.”
“I didn’t drink that much.”
“Then I would say that you’re crazy.”
He playfully scoffed at my answer. Figuring that I wouldn’t be getting out of this conversation anytime soon, I sat up and turned to face him while crossing my legs for some comfort.
“What would you really say, Y/n?”
“I don’t know. Are you really asking me out, Jungkook,” I asked, tilting my head to the side.
He mirrored me by moving to sit across from me, crossing his legs.
“Maybe~”
“Then maybe,” I said as I leaned on my arms behind me.
“Y/n/n, all you have to say is yes or no.”
I smiled as I softly sang, “Say yes or no. Yes or no. Yes or no~”
He chuckled, crossing his arms.
“You know,” he started, “I wrote that about you.”
My eyes shot up to meet his as I furrowed my brows in confusion.
“Wha- really?!”
He nodded as he played with his lip ring. “You always thought it was sweet to confess through a song. That song is my confession to you.”
“I do always say that. But here I thought that I was more of a Standing Next to You kind of person,” I huffed.
He chuckled at my comment and I smiled at him.
“So about me asking you out…” he trailed off.
I stood up and walked over to his bed to sit with him. I gently held his hand in mine as I looked up at him with a soft smile.
“I say 'yes'.”
He beamed at me with that smile I loved so much.
“But I still get the window seat on the way back home,” I said seriously.
He laughed and took me into a hug.
“As long as I get to be by you, you can have all the window seats you want.”

Donnie x reader
Unexpected
(( hurt >> fluff. ))
Tumblr media
"These look great Donnie- With these plans the new route you came up with may just be a tad bit easier to navigate. Less of shredders army of zombie mutants." At your words, The faintest smile makes it way onto Donnie's face. It'd been some time since you'd even seen a genuine smile on his face. Not since the apocalypse had practically shook New York. You draw in a breath as you shift from one foot to the other as anxiety begins to creep it's way up your spine. For the first time in nearly five weeks now, You two were finally talking. You should be happy. After all, it should've meant that maybe just maybe there was still hope to salvage the both of your relationship together. But that thought was immediately snuffed out by the negative thoughts nagging at the back of your brain- Of just how the turtle may wind up never speaking to you again. Still, you had to try. "Don look... I know with everything that has happened... Mikey falling into a coma, Leonardo losing a arm and Raph nearly becoming zombified in the process..." At your words, A realization seems to dawn on the turtle and almost immediately he's spinning around in his chair to face the scattered papers in front of him. "Y/n, Now really isn't a good time." "Please Don just listen to what I have to say-" "I'm really busy." "I understand that but if I could just-" The loud slam of Donnie's hand hitting the metal desk has you practically jumping backwards in alarm.
Tears prick at the corner of your eyes but you will yourself to be strong.
With a intake of shaky breath you manage to voice your frustrations.
"You have no right to be pissed off at me Donnie. I respect your decision to break up-"
The turtle begins to make a sound of protest or maybe to agrue with you.
But you only ignore him and contuine.
"I think you forget that Mikey, Leo, and raph are my family too. Fuck I'm just as upset as you are."
You find yourself pausing- Uncertain of how exactly go about what to say next.
But with the anxiety weighing heavy on your shoulders, You find yourself shrinking into yourself.
You couldn't get out with it.
It'd only make things worse for Donnie.
"...I...This is a bad time. You are right. Sorry for bothering you."
Now with the loss of your confidence, you find yourself turning around and trying to hurry out of the lab before you can fully break into tears.
But before you can even reach the exit, A hand reaches out for yours.
"Wait. Wait..."
Donnie seems to finally take notice that you aren't yourself.
And maybe you haven't been in weeks and he just didn't care enough to notice.
With the turtle now moving to stand in front of you, He draws in a breath.
"I'm being the real asshole here. I'm sorry. Please, Tell me what you were trying to say?"
You pull away from Donnie as frustration bubbles up to the surface and without another word your reaching into your pocket and practically shoving the three pink sticks into his hands.
The tears are soon blurring your vision and any frustration you feel toward the turtle is out the window.
You try stepping past Donnie only for the turtle to mirror your movements with a look on his face you can't quite place.
"Your pregnant."
He stares almost in disbelief at the pregnancy stick in front of him.
"This... Your actually serious."
You give a nod not trusting yourself to speak just yet.
Donnie sets the pregnancy sticks down.
"I... I didn't know. Y/n I'm-" "It's fine. I'll handle it on my own and you won't have to worry, Don. Because I know your busy, I know and I don't want to- Don't want to..." The tears that streak down your face have Donnie practically freezing in place and his heart clenches at the sight. "Let's sit down. Come on." He gently coaxes and leds you to the couch. Donnie reaches for your hands but pauses uncertainly. There's no time for overthinking, As your reaching out for a hug from the turtle despite everything that'd happened between the two of you. With a hand running soothingly along your back, He holds you just a bit tighter. He'd missed you so much. And internally he's kicking himself for being such a idiot. A silence seems to envelope the lab and patiently Donnie waits for your sniffling to subside. It takes time for you to fully calm down. But he doesn't mind. After all, you were worth it. With gentle hands, He carefully cups your face. "It'll take a lot of hard work from the both of us... But," A hand reaches down to brush against your stomach and for a brief moment you swear you can see a look of warmth flash in Donnie's eyes. "I'm more then willing to put in the effort for the both of you. You're both worth it. I'm not going to leave your side." You look into Donnie's eyes wanting to silently hold him to that promise. "... I know that we have a lot to talk through. But I want to be here for you especially now, Y/n." With a intake of breath, You reach out to grasp Donnie's hands in yours. "Then let's take it step by step. Slowly." Donnie gives a nod at your words before letting out a sigh of relief smiling softly.
There's a brief pause then, ".... I know where Mikey stashes the chocolate," He presses a kiss to your forehead before standing up. "I'll be right back. Why don't you find us a movie to watch?" "m'kay. Don't keep me waiting too long." The turtle sends a wink your way before exiting the lab altogether. While there was much to talk about and things that still needed to be mended, for now this was a good first step toward fixing the both of your relationship.
That was enough for you.

"Alright Captain, here's the keys," the head of the medical department said as she dropped them in your hand, "the pharmacy opens in an hour." You held the heavy chain in your palm, noting the various tags on the individual keys. "Wait, what do you mean in an hour?" you questioned as you stood outside the locked gates. She let out a laugh before responding. "An hour, Captain," she corrected and your eyes widened, "you're the new pharmacist in charge and the Army wouldn't have picked you if they didn't think you would be able to do this." With that, she walked off, leaving you to fumble around and try to orient yourself in the new area.
Despite the awful time you had waking up at 05:00, any sense of sleeplessness was gone and you were fully running on adrenaline. You felt like someone injected you with epinephrine based on how you ran around the pharmacy, trying to fill scripts and get your logins in. At 06:30, you heard a knock on the door to the pharmacy. You practically jumped, almost dropping the bottle of Metformin in your hand. "Hello?" you questioned as you saw a uniformed officer standing with a water bottle. "You must be the new pharmacist," she smiled and you opened the door to fully, "I'm your technician." You could feel your stress subside as she gave you a quick tour of the pharmacy. By the time she was finished, she informed you she would take care of the incoming scripts while you managed the queue and the verification process.
To your delight, the automatic pharmacy doors opened and you saw there was not a large queue of soldiers waiting for their scripts. You took a moment to catch your breath and review some of the new scripts as well as the occasional filled prescription that required your verification. You were focused, drowning out the sounds of the pills hitting the tray and the occasional conversations in the hallway. "Um Captain," your technician called, "I think someone is waiting." You felt your face flush as you quickly walked over to see a captain politely waiting. "I'm so sorry," you apologized as you looked up at him, "first day on the job." "It's alright," he reassured and you smiled, relieved he wasn't an irate customer.
"Did you check in with the app?" you asked and he shook his head. "I like to come early to avoid all that nonsense, I believe medical sent something down for me," he spoke gently, "the name's John Price." You turned to the computer and took a few moments to orient yourself with the system. Eventually, you were able to find his file amongst the surprising amounts of John Price's in the system. "Yes, looks there's two here for you," you said and turned to search around the bins. You thought searching the system took you long but navigating the bins took even longer. You eventually found the clear bag of his items and returned. "Here you go," you responded, "any questions?" He shook his head and you handed over the bag. Before he left, he turned back to you. "It's already half past 7, you're making it through your first day," he commented. You weren't sure if it was a compliment or a complaint based on your slow time, however, you were comforted knowing the day was going quickly.

After a few more patients, you finally had time to review your emails for the day. You sighed as you clicked through the reminders for meetings and on-boarding. You finally reached something of note. You sat back in the chair as you read through the email and attached file carefully. In summary, it notified you of a certain non-compliant patient who would be visiting your pharmacy soon. You laughed at the bold red letters that read “PLEASE ADVISE SERGEANT MACTAVISH TO TAKE THE FULL COURSE OF ANTIBIOTICS.” This was the first email of its kind you’ve received and you laughed at the childlike recommendation.
The incoming scripts had dissipated and your technician decided to take over the counter for you. Eventually, you heard your name being called and you walked over. "Captain, there's a mandatory counseling notification for you," she remarked and you nodded. You looked up to the patient who seemed to know what this was about. "If you don't mind Sergeant, you can come to the vaccination area and we can discuss," you explained with a smile. He nodded at your command and you walked to the private corner. You settled into the plastic chair and he sat across from you. “You're not in any trouble," you joked, "I’ve actually heard a lot about you, Sergeant.” He let out a laugh as you grabbed his medication. “You can drop the formalities,” he said before you began your counseling, “it’s just Johnny.”
"Well Johnny," you returned the conversation to you, "medical wanted me to talk to you about how to take these." Another laugh and this time you looked at him a bit confused. "Doctors are always tellin me that," he said as his voice boomed in the small area. "They are right after all, you should be taking the full course of these," you advised, "they even come counted out for you." You turned the bottle of Amoxicillin/Clavulanic acid in your hand, looking at the nine white tablets. "I'm serious, Johnny, you know the types of recurring infections you get if you don't take these," you said, sternly, as if you were a mother chiding their child. "I know, I know, Captain," he said defensively, hands in the air. "Good," you said handing the pills over, "then I shouldn't be seeing a script for you anytime soon." With that, he nodded and you dismissed him before returning back to your computer. Little did you know, you would be cursing at the pharmacy system as a script for Mactavish, John came in for MRSA infection.

After a week, you were finally comfortable in your role as the pharmacy officer. You were able to fill and verify scripts quickly and keep the queue from turning into an angry mob. The constant self-dosing of paracetamol was a thing of the past for you. However, as your technicians were frantically running around when you returned from lunch, your mood changed. After one of them sheepishly explained the situation, you felt like screaming. "What do you mean the medical file system is down?!" you exclaimed as your heart dropped. Apparently, it would be fixed once it was determined to be an error and not a malicious hack. You were also advised to stay off the phone lines and other systems as a precaution. This didn't help you as a platoon of soldiers was coming in for their prescriptions and were leaving on a 6-month deployment.
It would be no issue but you found that you were unable to verify an NSAID allergy for a patient. "Guess I'm doing this the old-fashioned way," you mumbled before walking out the pharmacy doors. As you exited the pharmacy, you soon realized your haste. Despite receiving a full tour on the first day, you had no idea where to go. You spent 15 minutes exploring the halls but to no avail. Finally, you threw in the towel and decided to ask someone. You looked around and saw a sergeant walking down the hall, casually. "Excuse me, Sergeant!" you called out and he walked closer. You read his name tag before continuing. "Sergeant Garrick," you asked as you looked up at him, "would you mind directing me to the medical wing?" "The directions are a bit confusing, so I can walk with you," he offered and you nodded happily.
As you walked, you made pleasant conversation. He asked you many questions about your short time on base and took an interest in your hospital pharmacy job before this. "The career change came when I was tired of mixing IV bags" you explained, remembering how after that shift you went to a recruitment center. In contrast, he described how he enlisted after secondary school and eventually worked his way up the ranks. "Do you ever regret it?" you asked, hoping not to offend the soldier. He let out a small chuckle which rebounded in the linoleum hallway. "Lots of people ask that but there's never a day that I do," he responded, smiling back at you. After the afternoon you had, Sergeant Garrick was a fresh of breath air. His optimism and smile made you think he was his squad's dose of Vitamin C.
Eventually, you saw the sign for the medical wing. Part of you had forgotten this is how your stroll had begun. "And here she is," he presented, sarcastically having his hands. "I can't thank you enough, this would've taken me ages to find," you said with gratitude. He nodded before turning around and walking back to his initial destination. "Thanks for the walk, Captain," he called and you smiled to yourself before navigating through the various doctor's offices.

As you looked up at the clock, you watched it painstakingly go second by second. Fridays and weekends were especially slow as most soldiers were on leave or off-base. You even relieved your technician as the hours slowly passed with no scripts being entered. Eventually, you heard the doors open and you walked to the counter.“Can I return this?” the man spoke, pushing over a small bottle of pills. You looked up at him, reading his name tag. “Well, Lieutenant Riley. If it’s an antibiotic you can toss it once the course is completed, you don’t have to come back here,” you clarified, expecting him to take the bottle back. But he simply shook his head. You placated the lieutenant and picked up the bottle. It looked like one from a civilian chemists and you turned the label to find it was a prescription for fluoxetine.
"Oh I see now," you realized, "I can dispose of this for you." As you threw the bottle into the bin to process later, you realized he was still standing at the counter. "Did you need something else, Lieutenant?" you asked as he stood in place. "Is there any way to get it off my file? The chemists gave this to me for the third time and I don't take it anymore," he requested and you were more than happy to oblige. "Yes, I'm sorry that it still gets sent out when you're on leave," you apologized, turning your gaze to the computer. You typed in a few things and after requesting his full name and date of birth, you were able to pull up his medical file.
Despite looking like a well-oiled machine, his file was as long as the base itself. You scrolled past various psych evals, mandatory therapy notes, and hospital records until you reached his prescription list. You tried to hide your dismay when you saw he was initially prescribed this in 2001, over 20 years ago. You wondered if this was the first time he had ever thought to get it discontinued officially in the records. "Everything alright?" he asked, noting how you stared at the screen and you nodded. "I can remove it for you now and add a note to prevent any further refills," you said and with a few codes and your confirmation, it was successfully removed. You returned back to the counter, letting the lieutenant know it was completed. "Thank you, Captain," he said quietly and turned to probably head back to his quarters. You made sure to close his file before you returned the item, trying to avoid the copious amounts of alerts regarding his plethora of scripts and refills. "Guess I'll be seeing you soon, Lieutenant," you said under your breath, not realizing how often you would be seeing certain patients.

☆ EDDIE MUNSON'S MASTERLIST ☆
❣ SARAH'S MAIN PAGE ❣
𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔓𝔯𝔬𝔩𝔬𝔤𝔲𝔢
The kingdom is filled with joy and laughter, the palace is always cheerful
Your father, Jim, is one of the most respectable and beloved royalty, he fought many dangerous wars and despite the violence and the blood spilled, he still continues to be the caring and thoughtful King
From another part of your village, the small family that you adored so much, your father's most trusted advisor, The Munson Family
Wayne is almost like the substitute when your father is not around except for being strict in other situations
He is so fun and also the wisest person, you ever knew and there goes his nephew, Edward, which will soon to become a prince
One of the skilled knights in your father's army, is the king's general, Enzo
You always wanted to be like this, you wished that no one will ever destroy your precious home
After your 18th birthday, your dad has another duty to fulfill that he needs to attend
"You sure, you don't want anything?" He says as he climbs up on his horse
"All I wanted is for you to come home, father" you say as you handled his silver helmet to him with a worrisome expression on your face
He holds your cheeks "We'll be okay"
You exhaled as you nod to him weakly
He gave you a small smile as you watch him rode his horse away
Wayne arrived at your palace, disheartened you could see the horror from his face
His hair is disheveled and his boots are covered with mud
He fell down on the floor as you ran up to him kneeling down on the process
"W-Wayne? What happened?"
He's crying and he can't even talk straight
"S-Someone took my nephew- someone s-stole him!" He sobbed as he holds onto you
Your eyes welled with tears at his remark
You knew that boy, he's the sweetest, you hardly talk to each other since he has other responsibilities from his place
The doors from your palace bang with a loud opening as the bunch of guards circling the both of you
Your face turned into confusion as you looked at all of them
"Y/N- stay away from that man!" One of the guards announced as they forced to pull you away from him
"W-What? No!" You scream as you tried to reach for his hands but it was no use
"What are you doing! What is the meaning of this? Let me go! As your princess, I demand to know what's going on!" You tried to yank the grip on your forearms as you point one of the guards
"They've been practicing black magic at the town, your majesty"
The same ridiculed expression you both matched with Wayne as you looked at each other
"That's nonsense!"
For the first time in your life, you feel like no one is listening to you like, you feel useless, as they tried to drag you away from Wayne
"You shouldn't arrest him! His nephew- Edward is missing!" You shouted out loud but it seems like whatever you do, they won't follow you
You feel weak and small as you sobbed quietly
"Where's father? Where's Enzo?" You whisper to yourself as you watch Wayne put his hands behind his back as they tied it
They push you from your bedroom as you heard them lock it
You couldn't sleep, you wonder what is going on with Wayne, he is sure locked in the dungeon
For a while, you dozed off
A sudden soft nudge from your forearms, you slowly open your eyes and there you see your father right in front of you
"Father? Am I dreaming?" You happily say as you wrap your arms around him
"My dear daughter, how I missed you so" he hugs you tenderly
"Wayne, they locked him up a-and I don't understand- and Edward- he's- he's missing!" You immediately say as you tried to look on his eyes for answers
"What?!"
"And Enzo- are you with him?"
"Yes, I am, listen, whatever you do, don't trust anyone asides from us" he looked at you with a pointed look
He takes one last look at you as you hold him
"Father! Please- don't leave!" You beg as you block his way
"I have to do this, Y/N"
"I want you to stay"
"Remember what you taught you to do, keep listening to your guts and your instincts"
"Please- tell me what's going on!"
He hugs you as you let another bucket of tears went down from your eyes, he kisses the top of your head
"You'll be a great princess, someday"
Your eyes went wide at his words as he let go of you as he disappeared in the night
You're left with confusion and fear
One year later after the haunting night happened
It's your 19th birthday and ever since that night, the palace walls are like watching you, you don't feel safe and it almost like a
Fever Dream
There is one however, saved you from the depths of hardship on that eventful evening
His name is Henry, he's tall, slim, blonde hair with blue eyes, has a record of achievements and comes from a wealthy family
He definitely looks older than you, but you can't help but question his kindness towards you
Jason, his presence alone, will always make you feel uncomfortable, he's a knight but an asshole
You always remind yourself from the words of your own father
"Listen, whatever you do, don't trust anyone"
The night couldn't even be more traumatic when a red light cracks the ground, a long branch of vines and screeching creatures came out of it
Your once peaceful Hawkins is now connected in the another dimension
You watch the grotesque happenings from your balcony as your knees wobble from the excruciating pain and wailing from your people
Unbeknownst to you, without your knowledge, Jason exiles Enzo from the palace and Wayne is locked up in prison for a lifetime
The sky is not the same anyone, it's dark and red thunderstorms everywhere
You still have no news about your father
Henry may be gentle around you but deep down you know his intentions are not always right
One of your people are dying with hunger, the meals that you're supposed to eat, you will give it to them instead
"Henry, my people are suffering"
"Your highness, you should not leave your room" Henry softly speaks at you
"I'm tired of you bossing me around"
"Well, maybe- you should be grateful who saved you before" Jason spats as he glares at you
And that's where you became silent
It's not your fault to be helpless at that night, but you did your every best to be the princess that everyone needed
His words may affect you but you won't let him get into you
You rebelled against the palace guards, fought with them and he only came into the picture when you're sucked down in debt
Almost penniless
You wonder where it all goes after he handled it
Henry made a declaration that it's forbidden and life-threatening to interact with the other side
Sure, the monsters are in it are terrifying, but how about the people that are left with that part of the world?
How did they survive? How are they're still alive in a place like that?
You have so many questions that some of your own palace maids won't give you answers and even, Henry
While walking around the hallway, you saw your father's study door is slightly open
That room is always locked and no one else is allowed to be inside, unless, your father personally asked to accompany to be with him
You heard two familiar voices, it's Henry and Jason
"Hawkins is going to fall soon"
"She'll grow on me, it'll take time"
"It will be a disaster- if she doesn't marry you"
Your cupped your mouth, you feel light-headed
"Why would you wait? When you could force her"
"Look, Jason, she's already afraid of me, I don't want her to feel unsure of me"
He scoffed "So- what are you going to do then?"
"I want her to trust me, I just haven't earned that yet"
"That's a waste of fucking time, Henry"
"You can't make me do that!"
"She has no choice! I know- she'll do anything to save her people even she doesn't want to do this"
Henry sighs in exasperation
"You're the only hope that she'll ever have"
The last words of Jason will make your skin crawl
"Marry her or I'll kill her myself"
The vase from your behind knocked over as it smashes on the floor
The two men went outside as they saw you there like a deer caught in the headlights
Henry eyeing you in concern while Jason menacingly looks at you like you're unworthy
"You know, you should feel lucky that someone is willing to marry you"
Your eyes are glassy as your heart suffocated at the intense fear that is building up
You ran away from them as you went outside of the palace
You heard, Jason calling the guards to lock you up in the dungeon
You quicken your pace as you tried to hide to catch up with your breath
One of the townspeople saw you
"You'll going away, miss?"
You nod hesitantly
"I just- can't leave the town like this- I can't go away when- but I also want answers- I feel like I'm in hell" you choked up in your own tears
"We hear you, princess, we understand"
You stare and for a moment- you almost lost your faith
"We'll cover you, now, go"
"Thank you"
"We can't keep up, sire- I think we lost track of her"
"if you can't catch her then I'll make it easy for you"
"I command you to eliminate her"
Henry argues with Jason "No- you can't do that!"
"Ignore him" Jason dismissed Henry as he orders more guards to look out for you
You ran and ran as your feet can take you farther and further away
But, this is the part where it gets all risky
If you step closer to this world, you don't know what will happen to you
You placed your palms over your knees as your chest rise up and down
You heard the overlapping guards voices becoming more closer to where you are now
You saw the bow and arrow that is targeted to you
You can't hear anything, only your heartbeat, the sounds of branches of trees, the noise from the guard's uniform- it blurred out
Take the risk or live through hell
You went in and the arrow that is meant for you disintegrated into ashes
"We can't follow her there, it's against the rules"
"That's not our problem anymore, she's gonna die in there"
You watch the veiny portal to see if they'll continue to chase you
The screeches of the creatures got your attention
It almost like Hawkins but different, filled with vines and unusual air
One of the flying monsters tried to attack you as you ran again
You have your sword with you but you're too tired to fought them all off
They're so many and it seems like this is your fate, the creatures are circling around you, they're gaining on you
You run as fast as you could until you heard someone saying from afar
"Hey!"
Before you can look at the person that called you, you turned your heel around as you accidentally slipped and hit your head on the rocks
The mysterious man with a low bun jogged his way towards you as he looked down on you
Your head is bleeding and he didn't think twice to carry you
Who will rescue you now?
No present father, no advices, no guidance, no more friends around
Only, you can save yourself
Is this the man that you're father is referring to? To not to be trusted?
Or the ones that lives from your palace?

keep them in your mason jars || (closed with jemmagentofshield)
@jemmaagentofshield
They told him that they had broken the programming, that they had found and snipped all the little threads that Hydra and the Russians had stitched into his brain. And it had felt like they had plucked a bunch of seams sometimes, as though they'd split the material of his mind and left him to figure out how to put it all back together again. It wasn't a pleasant process, and it sure as hell wasn't a quick one. The therapists kept telling him it would take time, that he needed to be patient. Patient with the process, patient with himself. They had at least agreed when he'd told them he needed something to do while he was putting all that patients into practice.
Their initial assessments had cleared him to go back in the field, under strict supervision, or else trying to make a 'normal life' in an incredibly abnormal world, under strict supervision. It hadn't really felt like much of a choice when they'd given it to him. He'd picked going into the field, he'd be able to do some good in the field. At least the supervision wouldn't be hidden surveillance. He'd had enough of that in his life.
Finding a place for him had taken a bit of time.
Eventually, they'd told him they'd found a team for him. People with the right kind of experience dealing with people with enhanced abilities. They had the right kind of experience with rehabilitation, too. They had a biochemist, who was also an MD, they had an engineer, too. The fact that they also had a prison cell that could hold him helped a lot. Wouldn't take much with two operatives, a biochemist, and an engineer to wrangle him in there if they were wrong about getting all the programming out of him.
So, he'd packed up his duffel, made arrangements with his therapist to have remote sessions. His file and transfer had been sent ahead of him, so they wouldn't be surprised by his arrival at least. Getting dropped off at the air field, Bucky had looked up at the large airplane and walked over to the lowered ramp.
"I'm looking for Doctor Simmons?" Bucky ask, getting pointed to a lab space. The door had been left opened while ground crews were resupplying the plane.
He probably should have looked for Agent Coulson. In the Army he would have gone looking for his commanding officer. Getting the medical stuff done first… He was still a little uncomfortable around doctors and medical staff. They'd poked and prodded enough at him for all of their assessments, drawing blood, running tests, wanting to see and understand how the serum and cryo freezing had affected him. Probably wanted to try to reproduce it too.
Knocking lightly at the edge of the door to the lab, Bucky looked between the two women in the room. "I'm looking for Doctor Simmons?" he repeated. "The ground crew pointed me here."
"Uh. You're Sergeant James Barnes. Hi," the brunet woman said. She turned to the other woman with a very low, under her breath "wow, hot" to her companion. He heard it, though he kept a straight face. Even his handlers in Hydra hadn't really appreciated how good his hearing was. Mostly because he wasn't used for information recon. He was used to not reacting to comments people thought he wasn't going to hear. But part of him appreciated the lack of fear in those words.

dis moi qui tu hantes, je te dirai qui tu es
Summary: Peitha is processing things. Alysannyra tries to help, in her own way. Content warnings: mentions and slight descriptions of violence. Spoilers: SoTo (specifically Heitor's Gate)
Nayos is quiet, for once. The sounds of battle died down, and the combatants have settled into an uneasy wait, a calm before the storm. And that is a good thing, Peitha thinks. Troops need time to replenish, to rest. The wounded need time to nurse their injuries before they go to battle again.
And the living need time to mourn the dead.
Peitha isn’t entirely certain she’s grieving for Heitor. She doesn’t feel the ashy taste of grief on her tongue. Yet, when she told Arina and Alysannyra she needed time for reflection, she meant it. When she isn’t occupied with helping her army, Peitha is deep in thought, away from the people around her, taller and bigger than most. She almost feels like a pillar to them, and she knows she is, but the thought of it makes something in her chest tighten.
What a strange concept.
On one such day of calm, Peitha retires earlier than she usually does and goes to a little corner of the camp. There, she watches the fogs of Nayos dim the blues and the reds around her. A part of her wonders if the sight of Heitor’s mangled body would have been any different if it was hugged by this tender fog. The Wayfinder - nay, the Commander - is a fearsome enemy. She roared and tore through her cousin’s flesh, unrelenting. Her fingers moved in practiced motions to carve out weapons and chains of light, and not once did she stop to take a breath for more than a moment before she was back into the fray, with the same deadly strength.
Yet, Alysannyra felt no joy when she walked away from Heitor’s corpse. She was emotionless, but Peitha knows that she wasn’t indifferent. I don’t take pleasure in death, she said later. I’m sorry for having to kill your cousin.
Peitha told her she wasn’t in mourning. Yet, her thoughts turn to Heitor often, and she begins to wonder if she was being truthful.
A bat of giant wings tears her from her thoughts. Peitha slowly raises her head up to see the round head of Alysannyra’s skyscale, Maurizia, peek from the edge of a tree. There’s a loud thud of steps as the Commander herself jumps down, freshly returned from her aerial patrol. She says something to her skyscale and the beast makes a happy, satisfied noise.
“It’s hardly fair to leave all the duties of running this to Arina, Peitha,” Alysannyra says and Peitha hums. A moment too late, she realizes she was joking.
“She is more than capable, Commander,” Peitha counters, trying to keep an even voice. Alysannyra laughs and steps out into the clearing.
“You of all people here should know I’m something of a little shit, Peitha,” she says, amused. Peitha stares at her. “Staring isn’t going to deter me either. Stare at me all you like. I am, after all, the most beautiful of all out here.”
“Be that as it may, Commander–” Peitha says and looks her over. The simplicity of her practical clothes does not take away from the attraction. If anything, it only makes the golden richness of her brown hair stand out against the dim nayosian sun, and she fits perfectly in the paleness of the horizon. “How has your patrol been?”
Alysannyra squints. “I am a married woman, Peitha.”
Peitha laughs. “I would be delighted to meet that husband of yours one day. But I am asking about your actual patrol. No ill tidings, I presume, given your.. rather cheerful disposition?”
“None whatsoever. Eparch seems to be pissing his pants. Or buying time, which is more likely.” Alysannyra’s face grows dark. “He’d do well to be terrified by this point.”
What an ally I’d found, Peitha thinks. “Heitor was weak,” she says. There’s that strange feeling again in her chest. “Cerus, less so. But Eparch is not.”
“He too will end up like Heitor and Cerus,” Alysannyra says. “Are you having second thoughts?” She presses her fingers in a fist and takes a deep breath.
“Me? No. I did not mean to tease your pride so.”
“I think you did. But that is besides the point.” She releases her fist. “The patrol was uneventful. The only real threat to us right now is this fog, but that’s Nayos, and not much else.” She tilts her head. “Were you thinking of Heitor again?”
Peitha pauses. “I have,” she says after a moment. “There is a reality where she joins us. There’s a reality in which you didn’t cleave her in half. But that reality is not this one.”
“There’s also a reality in which I’m still insufferably proud and nineteen. There’s a reality in which I didn’t have to kill my husband. There’s a reality in which my daughter didn’t die and there’s a reality in which I am dead.” Alysannyra’s voice is resolute, strong, akin to a mountain. Her feet make strong steps on the blue grass beneath, and she’s looking at Peitha with her muted, purple eyes. “There is also a reality in which I am alive, both my husband and daughter are alive, and that so happens to be the reality in which Heitor made the wrong choice and died for it. That is also a reality where Irja is dead.”
“I have been in your shoes, Peitha,” she then adds, quietly, but with no less resolve. “Believe me, I am every time I step before an army and become its face. I think of Irja, Ramses, Arina, and of every other face under my command. That is entirely normal. That means you are not like Eparch.” A pause. “That means you didn’t make the wrong choice, like Heitor.”
Peitha nods. She knows she would have been Alysannyra’s target too if circumstances were different. That knowledge fills her with relief - that she is not - and also with an odd kind of understanding. Was she herself not digging through Alysannyra’s mind not that long ago?
“Do you think I would have died, had I made the wrong choice?” Peitha asks. The light breeze carries Alysannyra’s hair to and fro, plays with the ends of her cape, and they stay in a silence that’s as vast as the clearing around them.
“No,” the Commander says after a while. “Instead, I think it would haunt you. Sometimes, that’s a fate worse than death.”
Does Heitor’s death haunt her? There’s a reality in which Heitor made the right choice. There’s a reality in which Irja is alive, safe in their camp. She looks at Alysannyra once more. She has seen what haunts her. Peitha’s chest aches, and aches, and aches.
“The right choices sometimes don’t feel good either,” Alysannyra adds, and then, conspiratorially, “I wouldn’t change a fucking thing about my life, actually. But I’m not right in the head. I don’t know what Kryptis consider right in the head, but maybe you aren’t either. And my best advice is to accept that, and to find as much peace in it as you can.”
What peace? Since when has Alysannyra Ainsaf, the Commander, the Champion, the Wayfinder, the hero, the legend, ever been at peace? Peitha takes a deep breath.
Does the same fate await her, too?
“You are a curious creature, Alysannyra,” Peitha says at last.
“I’m sorry if I wasn’t more helpful. But I don’t think you’d make much use of empty consolations. We are too similar for that, you and I.”
Oh, you have been most helpful. Peitha blinks. “I need reflection, Commander.”
Alysannyra calls to her skyscale. The beast trots over happily and nuzzles her mistress’ arm. Alysannyra pets Maurizia’s snout for the effort. As she passes by, Peitha feels a hand on her shoulder.
“I’ll take care of the camp,” she says and squeezes. Peitha doesn’t say anything and simply continues to sit on the ground, claws buried in grass. Wordlessly, Alysannyra’s gone, and before long, Peitha hears the greetings of welcome and barks of orders in the camp, and turns to look.
Does the same fate await her, too? She needs some very, very deep reflection.
