[OFMD Poetry] 10/13/23
I met fate while you were gone
And I fought her
With my sword
And with my gun
And when she surrendered
Lying on the ground
I took my rusted blade
And my flintlock
And carved a hole
For you to fit perfectly in
And I waited for you by the docks
So when you never came
I got rid of everything
And it was only the scar tissue
That screamed your name

“Why did you do that?”
Dani glared at Luthor and the eldest of the Hargreeves shrunk under her knowing gaze, “oh don’t say that you’re still hooked on her.”
“You went after her for no reason,” Luthor argued, trying to stand up for her, “she was there, with dad, helping us.”
“No she wasn’t!”
“Well she was trying to,” he responded, “And you went in with a metaphorical knife and stabbed her in the stomach and then twisted the blade.”
“Not cool!” Klaus agreed lazily from the floor.
Dani rolled her eyes at him, “get up and say that to my face if you want it to have any weight behind it, druggie.”
“They’re right, Dani.  There wasn’t any reason for how you treated her,” Allison said from her corner, “she was trying to help us, and convince dad that we were on the right side of things.”
“No, she wasn’t,” she argued, “she wasn’t helping any of us.  She was helping herself.  She made us all look bad.”
“No…we did that on our own!” Five disagreed, “with Luthor over there having too many daddy issues and all of you acting like a bunch of jackals.”
Dani turned to focus her rage on him, “no.  Brianna has more power than you give her credit.  She was the one that got to dad and managed to convince him to hold onto her.  None of us were able to do that.  She’s been that way ever since we were kids.  He always liked her the best.”
“Maybe that’s because she’s not a royal bitch!” Diego spat.
“Or maybe you’re all still into her,” she hissed, “Klaus is wrapped around anything that gives them attention, just like you.  And she was always dad’s favorite, so having her give you attention was just as good as dad giving you the attention himself.  And Luthor…do we even have to begin with the daddy issues he has?  They started dating once he was on the moon…all the way until the time of the accident.  And he’s never gotten over Allison, so we all know that he just dated Brianna because that put him one step closer to dad!”
“You seem to know an awful lot about your sister’s dating history,” Five began, “Jealous much?”
“Yeah right,” she scoffed, “there’s nothing to be jealous of that little slut.  She’s slept with almost all of you.  I mean, she even fucked Ben and gave birth to a bastard.  I just don’t understand why all of you like her so much that you’re willing to give up saving the world for her.”
“Hey…no one said that we’re giving up!” Five growled, “and not all of us have been romantic with Brianna.  So your little theory doesn’t work.”
“She didn’t need to get to you,” Dani smirked, “Dot got to you the first day you saw her.”
Five’s jaw tensed, “you don’t get to speak about Dot…”
“I just don’t get how all of you are so wrapped up in my sisters,” she growled, “I’m the special one.  Not them.  But yet, none of you want to acknowledge me.  None of you ever wanted to acknowledge the fact that I could be an asset to you assholes.”
“Because you just like to put a wedge between people!” Luthor said solemnly, “you’re not an asset if all you do is tear people apart.  That makes you a villain.”
“Okay daddy issues!” she scoffed as the elevator came to a stop at the ground floor, “you know…that’s why none of you will figure this out.  You put all of your faith into the fact that Brianna will help, and dad will magically be on our side, but guess what, she didn’t.  We’re on our own.  And just like Five said, days ago, we’ve brought the apocalypse back with us.  The only difference is that this time around, there’s no way of stopping it.”
“You don’t know that, Dani!”
But Dani had already turned her attention away from him, choosing to focus on Allison, “you already lost your family once.  Do you really want to go through another apocalypse without saying goodbye?”
Tumblr media
“Brianna, would you like to discuss why you ran out of there so quickly?” Reginald asked slowly.  Brianna’s gaze went up to his and another tear slid down her cheek, “I was discussing things with the one that called himself number five when you burst through like a bat out of hell.”
“I-I would not.”
“You know that it would be for the best,” he offered gently, “we should discuss why you had such a visceral reaction to whatever happened in there…in all of our time together, I’ve never even so much as seen you crack, and you’ve seen the real me.”
“I-it’s all of them,” she admitted, breaking down again.  Reginald sighed, placing his book beside himself on the seat before sliding over to the side where Brianna was sitting.  There, he carefully wrapped his arms around her.  She sobbed against his chest, allowing herself to feel all of the emotions, “I-I just-I had to hide who I was for so long with them.  When I was a c-child, Dani made me feel like I couldn’t show anyone my powers.  She squirrelled me away until everyone started to believe it.  They treated me like I was nothing all this time, and they made me believe it…the only one that ever saw me…the only one that ever made me truly better was Ben…and they let him die because they were jealous of our love.”
“Did I ever believe that, little one?”
She looked up at the man that she viewed as a father.  He reached up, swiping away her tears, and she shook her head, “n-no…you never let me think I was anything less than special.  You saw the same things that Ben did…and neither one of you ever let me think I was less than that.”
“Then the problem is them,” he said simply, “it’s a problem we will rectify little one, don’t you worry about that.”
“Wh-what?”
“You and I have accomplished so much in the short amount of time that we’ve been together, Brianna,” he admitted, “you’ve helped me get far beyond the boundaries that I thought were possible.  If these people…these men and women you claimed as siblings have put you in some kind of box that limits your capabilities…I want none of it.  I want nothing of the Umbrella Academy…”
She shot up, staring at him wholeheartedly, “but the apocalypse…the-“
“We will find a way, little one,” he said simply, “and then we will make a plan…a plan to usurp what they believe as reality and create our own.  A better one.”
“A better Umbrella Academy?”
“No, little one…an adapted version…The Sparrow Academy!”
The Sparrow Academy.
Her heart ached at the thought that was planted in her father’s head that night.
No more Klaus.  Or Luthor.  Or Allison.  Diego.  Five.
It’s not that she didn’t like them.  She loved her siblings.  And she’d tried to convince her father to reverse his feelings over it, but to no avail.
She had done more damage than good.
She felt the tears coming up to her eyes once more.  Her chest began to constrict, feeling tighter than it had all day.  She looked to the tub and sighed.  Walking over quickly, she turned the knob, stopping the flow.  Running her fingers through it, she agreed that it was warm enough.
Stripping down, she stepped in, needing the clarity of the warm tub to clear her mind.
“It’s my fault!” she sighed, bracing her back against the edge, letting her body slide along the back until her bottom met the tub’s depths and her neck rested at the lip, “I was the one who made the Umbrella Academy weak.  He couldn’t focus on them because he worried about me…”
She sniffled into the open air.
The bathroom was filling with the warm fog, the air rising up out of the tub.  She lightly splashed at the water, hoping that she would feel something other than sadness.
Nothing.
She closed her eyes and sobbed, feeling the emotions that she’d put away once she and Reginald had discussed the start of the Sparrow Academy.
None of the siblings would be chosen.  He’d known where he’d gotten each of them.
Luthor and Five from a couple in England.
Diego from Cuba.
Allison from Georgia
Klaus from Pennsylvania.
And Vanya from Russia.
And herself, Dani, and Dot from England as well.
Her heart raced at the thought that her father wouldn’t pick any of them.
“All my fault.” she repeated, picking up the razor from beside the tub.  She leaned back and held the cool metal to her lips.  When she felt the metal’s sweet kiss, she leaned into it, and pulled hard before she could regret the decision.
The warmth that erupted from her throat felt different than the warmth in the tub.  The porcelain underneath her disappeared.  It’s sickening white glow turning a light pink to a deep scarlet as the blood trailed down her chest.
She tried to take a breath but couldn’t.
Her heart raced even more as her hands reached up to her neck.
The skin was more than split.
Her fingers danced over the damaged flesh, slipping on the blood.
It felt like she was drowning.
The doorknob jostled, “Brianna…”
She looked worriedly at the door as her body began slumping down into the tub.  She didn’t have the energy any longer to hold herself up.  Her fingers stopped working to try to stop the bleeding that had now also slowed.
She sank.
The water, mixed with blood, was too hard to see through.  Her lips parted and it made its way into her body.
A crash.
The door was slamming open just a few feet from her.
But it was too little, too late as Reginald rushed into the bathroom.
Brianna was gone.

But remember that Stede’s idea of Blackbeard was captured multiple times in his library books, and his interest in the story, the legend of Blackbeard is . . . immensely important to him (“if I could be Blackbeard just once, I’d give this all away”), and in fact that fantastic, mythic image was big enough in his mind that he didn’t even recognize the flesh-and-blood Blackbeard sitting right in front of him. And it was big enough that the thought that he “ruined” this legendary figure made him abandon his entire dream of being a pirate.
So, no, when Stede sees Ed again . . . I don’t think his reaction will be dismay.
I do think he’s going to be disappointed at how Ed treated Lucius and the crew. Probably, truly pissed. (And that, perhaps, is not unlike what happened to the real Bonnet.)
But I think if anything Stede will be dismayed that Ed might not be that flesh-and-blood Blackbeard around him anymore; that version of himself is locked up tight and bundled with his own anger at being left behind and rejected.

I just want to take this moment to fully appreciate first mate Frenchie, who is in fact first mate for 1 whole day against his will. In that time he does nothing Ed asks and helps kill him. Which means in fact he is the most successful first mate ever because he speed ran the first mate arch. He goes from loyal follower to Captain killer a whole 20ish years faster than Izzy. Go Frenchie Go.

Izzy taking the blame for Stede's painting being ruined is leading to some deep character study.
Let's look at the painting first.
Tumblr media
Not only are the eyes crossed out, but the dark marks around the eyes and mouth are exactly the greasepaint makeup that Blackbeard and the whole crew use.
There is a bloody handprint over Stede's hand holding a sword and there is a knife stabbed into the left side of Stede's abdomen - the side without the important bits.
All three of these suggest that it was Blackbeard who mutilated the painting. He used the makeup to bring Stede down to his level of darkness, the bloody handprint to show the violence happening, and while the knife is violent, it is on the left side. It shows the warring emotions Ed is feeling about Stede right now, no matter how much he's drowning, trying to become a flightless bird, he ultimately can't truly stop loving Stede.
Now let's move on to Izzy.
Stede asks about the painting (oh, Stede I love your insecure yet vain ass) and Izzy responds right away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He automatically steps in to say it's him with that smarmy smile he uses around Stede. Izzy choosing to say this can be due to two things. 1) He is taking the blame for/ covering up for Blackbeard, or 2) He is trying to protect the crew from getting caught from mutiny. Which still means that he is taking the blame off of Blackbeard, so there isn't any evidence of why they would mutiny. (There is the third option that Izzy DID do it, but I think that is highly unlikely and you can tell in Con's performance.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stede reacts to this response by rolling his eyes, sighing, and then walking away. Izzy looks surprised by this, he was clearly expecting to be yelled at. Or be called an asshole like Stede has done in the past. But instead he is met by quiet despondence, which happens once again this episode.
When the crew are jailed for mutiny and Stede comes to the jail, Izzy tries to provoke him once again. "Go on, Bonnet. Give me your worst."
Tumblr media
But once again, Stede is quiet, shakes the bars, and walks away. We see Izzy make the same face as last time: he has tears in his eyes, visibly upset and slightly confused. He isn't getting yelled at, he is getting disappointment and silence.
Besides showing exactly how Stede responds when he is completely heartbroken, we see how Izzy responds when he expects violence and gets the opposite.
It is heartbreaking and Con's performance is superb.
Gif source!! Give them the love.

I really need something like Comic Relief to give us a GO short where Michael Sheen and David Tennant swap roles and play their counterpart as they might've if casting was swapped. Not an S1 opposite bodies situation, which I loved, but actually swapped. And then commence with the chaos.

“Lila-help”
Brianna remained stopped halfway up the stairs, after having followed the women that came with the odd, yet familiar man.  There was something about the interaction that she and Grace had shared with him.  There was something strangely comfortable about him.  So much so that she needed to investigate.  She felt a tad bit nervous, as the woman looked like an older version of herself, but she followed her regardless.
She could hear the noise in the hallway at the top of the steps, and she watched as Lila grabbed the knife and made her way towards the right side of the hall.  There was a loud thud, and Brianna didn’t pause.  She began to worry for the man and woman that she felt drawn to.  She needed to protect them in any way that she could.  So, she ran straight up and looked to the right.
A boy roughly her age was fighting a grown man.  The woman who looked like her was running towards them.  Confusion filled her, and for a moment she didn’t know what to do, but to the left was the familiar man, the one who had run into her and Grace.
“Where are you going?” Grace asked, as she went to grasp at Brianna’s hand, “you can’t leave!  Your father doesn’t want us to get separated, remember?  It’s a big place and there are a lot of people around that are unfamiliar to the both of us.”
“I’m just going to see if he’s upstairs or not!”
“Brianna…he already told us that he was going to talk to some men, and you saw him going upstairs,” she reminded the younger woman, do you really think the best use of your time is snooping around in an unknown place, using a party as cover?”
“I promise I’ll be back before he gets to you!”
“People are starting to leave, Brianna…I don’t want you to get lost in the confusion.”
“I won’t, mom…I promise…”
Grace stared at her for a minute, watching her, “you know something is going on up there, don’t you?”
“It’s better if you don’t know!” she admitted nervously, “I’ll be honest, things feel off…don’t they?”
Grace nodded and pulled Brianna towards her chest, “you better come back to me…”
“I will mom…I promise.”
She’d followed the familiar man on a hunch.  The main reason being that he knew their names, and they’d never said them.  She knew that he had to have something to do with her father.
But she didn’t expect when she looked to the left to see him being restrained by one man and being hit by another.
“HEY!” she called out.
The two men stopped momentarily, both of whom looked at her.  She glared at the two of them.  Noticing that they were dressed as waiters.  The one had his belt wrapped around the familiar man, while the other had been hitting him in the stomach.
“Didn’t your mother ever tell you not to bully people?” she taunted, charging towards them.  The two men turned their attention back towards Diego, and she suddenly appeared behind the one man, landing a blow to his kidney.  He grunted, his grip releasing just enough so that Diego could turn him and slam him into the wall.  The man that had been striking him, stopped and went to whip Brianna across the face, surprised that she’d had a similar ability to number five.
“BRIANNA!”
She disappeared, instead reappearing a second later, to the side.  She kicked the man hard enough that he slipped backwards, a heavy thud resounding in the hallway as his back hit the wall.
She turned, surprised to hear him say her name.
“Who are you and how do you know mine and my mom’s names?”
Diego rushed her, all of his emotions clouding him as he caught her in his arms, his lips crashing against hers.  Brianna melted into the kiss, her body nearly falling slack against his.
“Diego…” she whispered against his lips once he pulled away.  Diego nodded, his hair falling into his face, while his nose brushed against hers.  She whimpered against him, her heart beating wildly in her chest as memories of him came flooding back to her.  She reached up, her hands cradling his face.  She was shaking like a leaf, disbelief in her voice, “-I-I thought I lost you…all of you!”
“You could never lose me, Brianna…”
“The others?” she asked nervously, her eyes shooting to see Five staring down at the window towards the entrance.  Her gaze shifted to the window as well, where she saw Reginald and Grace together.  Grace looked worried.  Her eyes went wide, “Shit. I have to go!”
“Wait!” Diego begged, “You can’t leave!  We need your help!”
“I’m sorry, Diego…I-I’m so sorry!” She shook her head furiously and backed away from him, a blue light taking her as she disappeared.  She shook her head to herself and stumbled around the corner of the house, rushing up to Grace and her father.
Grace cradled her against her chest, “my god…you’re a mess.  What on earth happened to you?  You look like you were trampled by party guests!”
“We need to leave…”
“CAR!” Reginald called, hailing Abhijat.  When the car pulled up, he opened the door, ushering Grace in.  But he stopped Brianna, staring her down, “something happened upstairs that caused my meeting to…disengage.  That wouldn’t have anything to do with you, now would it?”
“It’s not safe here…”
“What is going on?”
“I’ll explain it when we are home, but the long and short of it is that we need to make a plan,” she said quickly, “my memories-they…came back…someone or multiple someone’s from the future came back along with me.  I’m not the only one.  And I think they’re here to adjust the past.”
“Were you spying on the meeting?”
“No,’ she said quickly, shaking her head, “But I know who was.”
“Get in the car,” he urged, “you’re not safe here little one.  None of us are.”
She nodded, getting into the car.  Right as Reginald was about to get in, someone began to yell in Greek at him.  Reginald stopped, knowing that he’d only taught Brianna to quote things in Latin and Greek.  His eyes snapped to hers and she inhaled.
“Reggie, what are you waiting on?” Grace asked impatiently, “we need to go.”
“Right,” he nodded, getting into the vehicle, “Abhijat…”
“Who was that?” she asked, eyeing Reginald.
“No one important,” he lied, looking back at Five through the mirror on the car.  His eyes met Brianna’s and she looked away from him, “no one important at all.”
Tumblr media
“Dad we have to talk about it.”
Reginald looked to Brianna and shook his head, “What do you mean?  No, we don’t.  There is nothing to talk about, Brianna.”
“First Luthor…and now Diego and Five…”
His jaw tightened, “they’re just names…they mean nothing to me.  And you didn’t even remember this ‘Luthor’ when he came to us, years ago…now all of a sudden you remember them all!  It seems a bit out of place to me!”
“Dad…they’re from my dreams…the bits and pieces…I didn’t remember everything, but pieces are coming back,” she admitted, “when we talked about Pogo…and mom…and how to come up with everything-“
“BRIANNA ENOUGH!” he called firmly, “look, I know you seem to think you have everything worked out in your head, but it is a farce.  I feel a kinship with you, but I hardly doubt that I’d adopt over a dozen other children…that big one alone seemed like a big, whiny baby.  No son of mine would be so…pathetic.”
Brianna stopped speaking and looked at the man she looked at like a father, “but it’s all coming true.  Even down to the grassy knoll…why do you keep having doubts?”
“Because if what you’re saying is true…then I have failed,” he finally admitted, “if this is all true…then the Umbrella Academy, the children that I adopted will not save us.  They will cause the end of the world.  Brianna, you have proven of great use.  You helped me advance what I wanted.  We have Pogo.  And Grace.  Two of the best things in my life because of you!  But them.  They have done nothing but humiliate me and let me down as far as I can see.”
“We need to see them, dad…we need to find out what exactly it is that causes this!” she said in earnest, “because there’s a very good chance that the end followed us back…”
“So the end of the world came back with all of you?”
“Possibly…”
“Where did they find you then, little one?” he asked softly, “because we need to go back to the very beginning then.”
“I think you’re right…we need to go, dad…we need to find them.”
