Knight, Scholar, Vagabond
Some more outfit designs for my lass. One day I plan to return to my original story where she's a name thief, vagabond, and has, unsurprisingly, another "enemy-rivalry-it's-complicated" relationship with someone called the Cartographer.

"I must confess that, in allowing this man to return tomorrow, I was giving way to my desire to keep, not an admirer, not a friend, but an eager spectator of my life and my person. 'One has to get terribly old,' said Margot to me one day, 'before one can give up the vanity of living in the presence of someone else.'"

Quote
Must I, in short, struggle – ah, how could I forget it? – against solitude itself? And to achieve what? What? What? When I was small they said to me: 'Effort brings its own reward', and so, whenever I had tried specially hard, I used to expect a mysterious, overwhelming recompense, a sort of grace to which I should have surrendered myself. I am still expecting it.

After talking it over with Hood, we realized something.
Each time a main host latched onto someone, it was because they needed an escape.
W #2 with his ex? During the time the egg donor was starting to become paranoid and having us come with her because she was so sure her ex was going to hurt us.
Aura and her... whatever the fuck was going on there? Well we got kicked out by the egg donor's extended family and now we're at the point of feeling like there's no hope.
Hell, it even happened with Red and their husband (insys). Not to the extent of those last two, but it still happened.
No more out of system relationships. Not until we can be sure there will be no form of escapism

When I'm here, I don't want to come back.
When I go out, I only want to come back to escape whatever was there.
What's it like to look forward to returning?
I don't know if I've ever left somewhere I wanted to be with the hope of going back. This bindle is only ever loaded with more grief.
The traveller is always returning; one who does not return is no traveller. But to travel out of hope and curiosity and to travel out of fear and desperation are two disjunct modes, as the rose contends with the tough edges of winter.

The Vagabond
Reading Colette is so DISGUSTINGLY ENJOYABLE, I am absolutely FURIOUS that so few people avail themselves of this pleasure!!!
Even through this disappointing translation, her wit and nerve INVIGORATE me.
I am grateful to the lecherous professor of creative writing who turned me on to her in our Anatomical Fictions class many years ago.
In France, she is so well known that her words are painted on the walls of the Franprix: Si j'avais un fils à marier, je lui dirais : « Méfie-toi de la jeune fille qui n'aime ni le vin, ni la truffe, ni le fromage, ni la musique. »
In the States we know little of her except through Keira Knightly. However, the Vagabond, Colette's post-divorce revenge novel about a woman who becomes a dancer in the cafe-concert halls following her humiliating betrayal by the older, manipulative husband who stole her artistic work, is for you if you want to meet the ancestors of Carrie Bradshaw and Amelie, with some Tipping the Velvet daring. Being a 30-something hot, bad girl divorcee with a craving for emotional bondage can be hard but so much fun!
