yes! i’m currently writing my diss and part-time working and i really miss formal studying

medieval lit, formal logic and syntax! :)

criminal minds, the road to calvary, chernobyl, AoT, BSD, historical dramas, anime, and I just binged my first two asian dramas (both chinese) on netflix, so yeah, i’m experiencing a new phase

the guernsey literary society, bohemian rhapsody, the mcu, i don’t know, just cute romance, historical dramas, or more dense and interesting stuff

favorite book?

i’m in awe with mishima’s literary style. i was speechless after reading la regenta. i suffered to the bottom of my heart with the bell jar. i’m a bronte girl. and i’m really into medieval tales (bad joke)

reading, writing, baking. collecting memories with my friends and with my boyfriend. which is kind of sad, since my diss is absorbing all my life and all my time right now

teaching and researching literature

i’d love to, but my boyfriend doesn’t believe in marriage, so for now we are only planning to move together

06012019. hello ! i have been following a bunch of studyblr’s for a while now (on my other tumblr, i’ve made a new one especially for this hah) and it is so uplifting so see how kind and warm the community is. i wanted to be a part of it and to also track my own studies in the upcoming months of my a level exams (my motivation to study has been fluctuating and more often, fading, but i aim to fix this!). to start off, i’ll introduce myself :

i’m brenn and i am currently seventeen studying my a-levels in england; i take english literature, biology and chemistry. i am in my last year of sixth form and have found it very difficult ever since but i hope to persevere! i play the piano although it has been a while since i have practiced sadly (i blame it on my lack of time-management finesse and, i hate to admit, my own unwillingness) and i hope to pursue biomedicine in university this year! i am also running my race in faith with God and hope that my relationship with Him will only bloom and multiply :-)

i really love the smell of coffee but it breaks me out, my favourite movies (to name a few) are the blue lagoon, splash, dirty dancing (old but gold) and breakfast at tiffany’s, i do not like swimming in the deep end after a near-drowning experience, i am a sucker for romantic movies although i have never experienced anything close to it myself, i am afraid of bees, i love glittery eyeshadows, i adore dean, i like red lipsticks, i have dropped my phone in the sea before and have never seen it since and i am deathly scared of lightning. just a few miscellaneous facts off the top of my head: )

i owe a lot to the studyblr’s that have helped inspired me and i am so grateful for the help and kindness that the studyblr community have radiated; just to name a few: @thestudyofkats , @distempers , @hstudies , @weststudies , @procrastinationlikeapro , @pytheagoras . i hope that my motivation will increase even more and perhaps, even be the source of somebody elses motivation to study!

1.7.2019 | day 7 - studyblr community

Today has been very slow for me. I wrote my in class essay and I almost cried because I thought I did terrible :( But I am now done with it which relieves some stress. Although, I have just spaced out all day long and I’m having trouble focusing on my studying. Well there’s always tomorrow to at least get a bit more done.

The studyblr community is just fantastic! I’ve only been part of this community since the end of last November, so I’m very new. But from what I’ve seen from this community, everyone is so supported of people’s endeavors and it motivates me to be just as successful! Learning about the people on this platform has truly changed the way I approach school work and life in general! Thank you everyone for being such inspirations to me and I hope you achieve your goals! We’re rooting for you! 💓

1. are you a fan of mint chocolate?

yes, if it’s made well.

2. favorite food?

sushi!

3. describe your childhood in 3 words.

long awkward moment.

simple and minimal. dark and neutral colors.

5. why make a tumblr?

bored, curious, and wanted to connect with people who shared the same interests as me.

6. how do you usually spend your day off?

sleeping in, catching up on tv shows and anime, mindlessly scrolling through tumblr, watching youtube videos, listening to music, and talking with my mutuals. sometimes i make gifs/edits for my main blog if i’m in the mood.

at the moment, i really love “feeling good” by day6, “keeper” by the boyz, and “dance the night away” by twice!

8. what’s your favorite cuisine?

aside from cuisine from my own culture (chinese), i also like japanese and korean food!

ultra modern exterior, minimalist interior, neutral colors, and environmentally friendly.

my taste in music is all over the place, but i mostly like to listen to pop, kpop, edm, lo-fi, and rock. sometimes i listen to alternative, indie, and classical.

2. recent read review?

i haven’t read any books recently, but i read an article this morning about the science of music, and i didn’t like how this one guy said that today’s music is “auditory cheesecake.” basically, he said that the (popular) music that we listen to these days is trash, and i feel that that’s not true at all. perhaps he’s from an older generation and has yet to catch up and understand. *smiles sheepishly and shrugs* other than that, the rest of the article was pretty interesting!

3. your go-to person for motivation?

hmm...probably @lavietudier. he’s good at brightening up my day. :)

4. greatest source of inspiration?

music!!

5. an abstract goal in life?

i don’t really have any abstract goals? uhhh...i guess it would be cool if i could go to space someday, ahaha.

6. favorite word in your native language?

i don’t really have a favorite cantonese word, but my brother and i like making puns out of cantonese words that sound like english words!

7. most effective note taking system that works for you?

outline format! everything is laid out nicely with main points and sub-points, and if i need to write a paper about a certain topic later, i don’t really need to write a rough draft because almost all the information is already outlined in my notes!

8. biggest distraction?

honestly? the entire internet.

9. most overrated trend in your opinion?

dabbing. just...pls stop.

10. one word to describe yourself.

divergent.

11. three lines of advice for new studyblrs.

share original content, don’t worry about the numbers, and ignore the haters.

1. what is the most joyous memory you have? how old were you, where was it, etc.?

the day that i found out that i got into the uni that i currently attend! i was 17 and in my senior year of high school. i was at home and got a call from the uni saying that i got off the waitlist and that i was accepted. i was so so so excited! i was screaming and jumping around all over the place, ahaha. it was such a great day! :’)

2. why is your favorite color your favorite?

my favorite color is lavender! it’s light, and it makes me happy and keeps me calm. i also feel like it’s kinda healing? overall, it’s just a very nice color!

3. if you could learn one foreign language what would it be and why?

either japanese or korean. i mean, i’m currently already self-studying japanese and i’ll be taking korean next semester, but those two languages are the ones that i’ve been most interested in for a very long time now.

4. who was your favorite teacher from primary/elementary school and why?

my 2nd grade teacher! she was so kind and fun to be around, and she always made class very enjoyable. by the time i was in 3rd grade, she left and went to teach at another school, and i missed her a lot ;;

5. what is the last book you read for fun, or for school, and genuinely enjoyed?

to the lighthouse by virginia woolf! i absolutely love how the perspective always changes from one character to the next, and it kinda feels like you’re watching a movie when you read it.

6. what is one past historical event you wish you could get a front row seat for to see what it really looked like?

not really a specific event, but i’d love to watch debussy compose his pieces and ask him how he makes them all sound so pretty~

7. when you were young (sometime aged 5-8) what did you want to be when you grew up?

a doctor or an astronaut. if you told me that i would be a musician, i might have believed you.

8. what is a song you could listen to on repeat for days and not get tired of?

“write it in the sky” by kina grannis (ken loi remix)

9. what is something you feel strongly about? tell us a bit about it!

john cage’s music is actually pretty interesting if you take the time to really listen and understand. i appreciate his philosophy of music being anything that makes sound, including silence. silence can be meaningful, too.

10. what is your ideal study environment?

at home, alone, at my desk, in my room, during the day, lots of natural light, all of my necessary stationery and study materials neatly laid out, and good music with no lyrics.

11. why do you care about school? what goals do you have related to your schooling and future?

i care about school because education is important, not only for learning new things, but also to develop your critical thinking skills, apply what you learn to real-life situations, and figure out who you are. i hope to graduate successfully by spring 2019, and i’m considering going to graduate school and getting my master’s degree in audio engineering. i’d love to work for a large entertainment company someday, and i’d like to have my own studio and produce an original album as well! :D

4 February 2019 | I haven’t been out of the house as much lately because my husband is hunkering down in preparation for Step 1, but today he’s in class for a few hours so I took the opportunity to pop into a coffee shop and work through some church history lectures. I feel much more driven to get my proper work done this semester, which is a huge relief. Last semester I always wanted to read “something else”—even when I hugely enjoyed what I was supposed to be reading. Praying I keep this same natural motivation as the semester progresses!
