Brad has said in a few interviews (ironic) in the past that he hated working on the film for a number of reasons. I think the biggest reason for this is that they filmed the entirety of the movie inside, or at night. He said about this, quote, “I am miserable, six months in the fucking dark." The movie and the stars were such a huge deal, that to keep the sets and costumes a secret, even when not filming, they had to travel between sets in dark tunnels built just for that purpose.

I know another reason he disliked the film was how long and tedious the makeup process was. The artist actually had the actors hang upside down before and during application so that the veins of the actors could be traced over and enhanced. Brad also had to wear colored contacts to capture Louis’ vibrant green eye color, and these along with the heavy period costumes were very uncomfortable.

Although Lestat is the main focus of The Vampire Chronicles overall, Louis is the protagonist of Interview, so it made him very annoyed that he was playing second to Tom Cruise, whose name was being used first in all the promotional material and press. Brad actually tried to quit halfway through production and asked his agent if there was any way out, but he had to tough it out the rest of filming. Hi! I just read Interview with the Vampire, and I loved it! But I was going through tumblr and I saw a lot of people said the sequels sucked for the most part. I know the following 2 or 3 are supposed to be good. should I read the others? Thanks!

hello anon ! I’m so glad you loved Interview With the Vampire ! yes you’re right, there are many, many, sequels and a lot of them can be hit or miss depending what you personally like best about the series. If you liked iwtv I would 100% recommend checking out at least the next two books in the series The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned.

The first three books in the series are the most cohesive and form a complete trilogy, without really needing to read the others unless you want to. tvl starts up with lestat just having decided to come out of hiding (end of iwtv) and wanting to become famous. it’s mostly backstory for him, but switches back and forth to the present (my personal favorite). you also get to see events mentioned in iwtv from how lestat perceived them. an argument among many vc fans is who is a more reliable narrator, louis or lestat. (it’s louis ofc).

qotd picks up right after this, without giving too many spoilers, as a major threat seeks to destroy all vampires and men on earth. Both are just as good as iwtv and really give more insight into some of the other characters besides just louis. (but don’t worry, there’s some good loustat content in there as well). you also get to see more about some of the ancients, lore, as well as characters met in iwtv like daniel and armand. I would however warn you not to watch the qotd movie because well, it’s absolutely terrible.

If you liked these after reading I would also recommend The Vampire Armand, as well as the Prince Lestat trilogy ! x.

I sent you an ask the other day about Claudia's snarl at the end of "I Want More." I just think it's a really cool acting choice, and Claudia's actress did a really good job!

Yes, sorry I deleted your ask on accident haha ! Oh my goodness yes that is my favorite part of the song honestly, I have a great obsession with the musical. (Besides Lestat and Louis bickering in the back) The loustat in the play is *chef’s kiss*. I think that specific vocal flucuations really sell the preformance. My favorites are Claudia’s snarl in “I Want More”, Lestat’s “My Fault!?”, and the heartbreaking way his voice breaks in “Sail Me Away”, as well as the little tongue click he makes in annoyance in “The Crimson Kiss”. The san fran cast is superior to the broadway version in my opinion, but both are great. The actors for Lestat, Claudia and Armand and Gabrielle are absoultely fantastic. I think the most iconic of Armand’s is in “After All This Time”, when he is gloating to Lestat, “You, who destroyed all of it?!”. In my opinion the talent completely makes up for the terrible wigs. hi, I just noticed that no one uses the vampirechronicles URL and wondered is that because ppl are afraid of problems with copyright? given AR's history of sueing ppl? or is there a different reason?

That’s a good question ! I honestly don’t think that it’s because of Anne or any serious reason. I remember when I made my url a few years back, the actual series name was taken and that’s why I went with mine.

Hey!! I've been listening to your vc playlists and I love them so much, thanks so much for sharing them!!!

You’re so welcome ! That means so much to me when people say that they love them !! Each of the songs really reminds me of the character’s feelings and emotions. Louis’ are very serene and dark, while also being geared towards his views of life, how to process that being what he is. As well as his feeings towards lestat A lot of Lestat’s are him being a cocky bitch living primadonna with an 80’s rock vibe, while delving into his emotions as well.

I love listening to them too ! I actually want to add a couple songs to them but unfortunately I’m locked out of my spotify account at the moment.

What are movies with Lestat and the other vampire characters like Louis and Armand etc besides Interview with the vampire and Queen of the damned?

Hello Anon !

Visually, besides the novels, there is no other content that’s Vampire Chronicles based besides the cult famous classic adaptation of the first book, Interview With the Vampire (1994) and the very distorted and confusing mashup of the second and third book, Queen of the Damned (2002).

Interview With The Vampire

The iwtv film has been praised for it’s a-list cast, (Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise) and fairly accurate telling of the story. My biggest complaints have always been the casting of Armand, and changing Lestat being at the theatre, along with a few minor complaints that only a real book fan would complain about. Overall it’s a really solid adaptation.

Queen of the Damned

QotD has so many issues I’d like to make an entire post about it at some point. MAJOR problems exist in this adaptation including:

Stewart Townsend having brown hair/ Stewart Townsend in general

The entire casting of the other main players specifically Armand and Marius looking.. well like that.

The complete changing of events and characters so much (marius making lestat etc.) which made the film an incredibly confusing 3/4 TVL with events very very different and 1/4 like that one chapter in QotD where Akasha tells Lestat her plans.

The complete erasure of characters like Nicolas de Lenfent, (Lestat plays the violin instead??) Gabrielle de Lioncourt, Magnus, and Louis de Pointe du Lac (an unforgivable crime)

Not to mention the acting is awful. The setting of the film was changed to 2002ish instead of when it’s supposed to take place. The overall vibe is incredibly, well, cringey.

The complete straight-washing of the main character. (Lestat ends up with Jesse instead of Louis.. yeah)

Anyway on to the good news ! The Vampire Chronicles has been picked up by Paramount to be a Hulu original series some-point hopefully in the next 1-2 years. We don’t know much about it except it will be called The Vampire Lestat and follow Lestat’s misadventures in chronological order as they happened to him, rather than the order the books were released. (Ex. it’ll start w/ TVL when he’s human, when he’s turned, Marius, then the events of IWTV.)

Sorry this turned out really long, but keep on the look for news about the new series! I’ll be posting any and all updates here on my page.
