A little hopeful moment which I missed on the first watch, but which I think is so important. Nina and Maggie come to have their talk with Crowley. Now, we all know that Crowley is Maggie—yes, sure, Nina is sarcastic and suave and cool and calls Maggie angel—but it’s obvious that Crowley is Maggie and Nina is Aziraphale. Crowley even admits it himself in the very beginning of this conversation when he tries to justify meddling to get Maggie and Nina together:
“Nina needed rescuing.” Yeah, you know who else always “needs rescuing”? Anyway, moving on.
Nina says she just got out of a relationship and it would be a disaster to get into another one right away. And then this happens:
Nina says she hopes Maggie will still be around, but she knows she can’t ask Maggie to just wait while she figures out her own baggage. There's no guarantee. And then Maggie interjects—
The parallel between Maggie/Nina and Crowley/Aziraphale is so intentional as to feel heavy handed. So what does it mean that we get this exchange in at this particular moment in the script—buried within the conversation which is the catalyst for Crowley confessing his feelings, occurring in the lull immediately before the spectacular dissolution of everything the first two seasons were building towards?
“We could have been us,” Crowley says. Crowley walks out of the bookshop. Crowley turns off their song in his car. Whatever tentative blooming thing has been building between him and Aziraphale for six thousand years appears to be very clearly over. Aziraphale presses the kiss to his lips and knows there is no guarantee they will ever have a chance to be together. There's no guarantee that Crowley will ever want to forgive him, that he will keep on waiting for him.
Shang Qinghua is such a romance webtoon ass protagonist watch him get married to the Duke of the North for protection and tax reasons make his fief run so much better make everyone's life better make his expertise indispensable make his husband fall madly in love with him then worry about how he's getting divorced in 2 years cause their contract marriage end there and his gorgeous gorgeous husband having now filled the conditions and inherited his title as Lord of the northern lands will find a much higher status and prettier spouse the second the contract is over
Like Mobei Jun could even fonction as a person without Shang Qinghua like the organization of the North wouldn't completely fizzle out in a week if he took his eyes off it
I've seen alot of ideas on what Kazui means by being "loved like a cat", from him being promiscuous to being violent to being submissive, so I thought I'd give my thoughts on it- specifically in comparison to how he has been 'loved' in the past. Kazui, since birth, has been raised more like a dog rather than an actual person. He's never been expected to have his own wants and needs outside of the norm, outside of what his father wants him to have. Dogs are expected to perform constantly, to obey the every command of their owner without hesitation, to be loving to the right people and aggressive to others, to never act out of line. If a dog can't do this, they're scolded and punished and retrained until they're perfect, and if a dog continues to be unruly, they're disowned and replaced. Doesn't this sound kind of familiar?
Luckily for dogs, they very much enjoy being trained to perfection and are usually very unhappy when they're not. Unluckily for Kazui, he is not one. Cats on the other hand? Good luck trying to train one to obey. It's not impossible, but it's extremely hard, it's just not in their nature. Cats are free to do almost whatever they want, they're not expected to listen or perform at all. There's basically no pressures on a cat, and they'll be loved no matter what they do for their owner in return. To be loved as a cat is to be loved without expectation, without fear of punishment, to be loved unconditionally.
Since it was just my birthday, here’s how the Aurinkos would feel about their birthday:
Juno: used to hate his birthday a lot because his brother wasn’t there to celebrate with him anymore but doesn’t mind as much now and sees it as a way to honor Ben
Rita: loves her birthday but often forgets when it’s coming and Juno has to remind her, he also always gets her something without fail
Buddy: likes her birthday a bit, grew to like it as a young adult, mostly to get free drinks and the like, used to celebrate with a cake when she could actually eat food
Vespa: hates her birthday, anyone who mentions it is dead to her, Buddy tried to throw her a birthday surprise the first time they dated and they almost broke up, will now tolerate a private ‘happy birthday’ from Buddy and only Buddy
Jet: is pretty indifferent about his birthday, will tolerate Buddy’s attempt to celebrate but will not celebrate himself of his own free will
Peter: doesn’t like his birthday, he used to celebrate with the pests as a child but stopped celebrating with Mag who just forgot about it, will refuse to tell people his birthday of his own free will but Juno gets to tell him happy birthday and give him a cupcake or something
Ruby: of course it hates its birthday, the mysterious past says it all, might not even know what a birthday really is
This is from the book, while Crowley is trying to talk Aziraphale into helping him stop armageddon, and does his drunken ramble about eternity. Apparently God enjoys The Sound of Music.
“You’ll enjoy it. You really will. You won’t have a choice.”
I feel like this line gets overlooked a lot. It’s an important line, for sheer horror potential.
Whatever the control mechanism is, clearly it isn’t running on every angel at all times, because if that was the case, a rebellion never would have happened. Aziraphale wouldn’t have six thousand years of doubts piling up to critical capacity. Gabriel wouldn’t have been able to escape.
But it’s also clearly very easily turned on, since they both accept that it would be used for something as petty as enjoying a movie. This lack of will can be rolled over angels at any time, for any reason.
Aziraphale clearly has some dread of this. *Crowley* knows it, and used it to convince Aziraphale to help him stop armageddon. But Aziraphale is very good at letting one part of his brain know something while another part of his brain denies it, so it’s not clear how much *Aziraphale* knows he dreads it, even as that dread shapes his character.
He’s never really broken free of Heaven. Even when he was being called a traitor, he wasn’t fallen, and so he was expecting to be called home eventually. And he’d be happy, of course. He won’t have a choice.
Aziraphale’s been trying to walk away from Heaven for at least six thousand years. He walked away from guard duty. He gave away his sword. He lied straight to God’s face about it. He lied to the archangels, and then straight up told Crowley he was ready to go to Hell. Several millennia of trouble-making and demon-fraternizing later, he stood in the middle of Heaven, declared he wasn’t going to fight in any war, then escaped via the demonic act of human possession. He is ready to GO.
And still his wings are snowy white. He’s just as angelic as when he first worried the pretty starmaker might get in trouble, and tried to protect him with a warning.
But he can’t escape. Heaven isn’t letting anyone else go. And he knows what his future holds. Eventually, no matter how many times they put it off, eventually he will be called back to Heaven.
And so, what promises can he make Crowley?
To stay with him always? Of course not. To love him? Can he even promise to love him? No. He’ll eventually be dragged back to Heaven, and he’ll be happy to go, and he won’t even miss him. *He won’t have a choice.*
And perhaps that’s the problem. He loves Crowley too much to make promises he can’t keep.
All sins can be forgiven. Absolutely no sin is unforgivable. Yes, even that one. Yes, even that one. Yes, even that one.
Stop acting like violence and murder are an appropriate response to sin. We don't have to allow someone to continue to cause pain to others but we are called to mercy and forgiveness.
Christ died for all of us, and paid the price for all of our sins.
I feel like Crowley would totally sell his hair to get Aziraphale a chain for his pocket watch, and Aziraphale would totally sell his pocket watch to get Crowley a comb for his hair

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
