There’s something horrifyingly beautiful about Tess’s final moments. In the midst of the most dire chaos, as she waits for her death to come rushing past so she can blow it sky high and give cordyceps a big fuck you one last time, one of the infected stops. It looks at her, really looks. Her own mortality is personified in this infected. It’s death that’s looking at her, and it sees her. She looks her own death in the eye, and the suspense is so high as it approaches. But then, it doesn’t bite her throat out like we all expect it to.
It kisses her. What’s more, it kisses her gently. And I think it was a brilliant choice on the writers part, because it reminded me that the infected aren’t supposed to be evil. Sure, they’re scary as hell, but really, they’re just trying to survive. They’re connected to one another, they can feel each other from miles away. They seek out and want to be close to their own kind, just like the human survivors do. And when they do find each other, they kiss hello.
And after so long apart from a loved one, someone you know and trust with every instinct in your body, wouldn’t you want to kiss them too?

this might be a hot take, but personally, I love when people ask me to explain my fics! to tell them why they’re worth reading! to talk about specific details even if we disagree about HCs!
part of the joy of being a fic author is getting to share my stories with folks who are—by and large—interested in the same handful of characters that i am, and getting the chance to explain the choices i’ve made or talk about plots i’ve written in further detail makes the fandom feel more like a community of friends who care about each other, and less like a transactional relationship between a consumer and a producer!
but that’s! just! me!

Ok but the parallel of Gamora being a scared little girl on a planet that was crumbling and was being invaded by a cosmic fascist who killed half the people and kidnapped her from her family, raising her as his own and grooming her to be his weapon in his further fascist conquests
And Loki… being a scared little boy on a planet that was crumbling and was being invaded by a cosmic imperialist who killed half the people and kidnapped him from his family, raising him as his own and grooming him to be his weapon in his further imperial conquests.
Also: “Everything I hate about myself, you taught me.”

‘i won’t forget you, you know’
something about the way jamie says this. he sounded so sure. almost as if he could sense what was about to happen. and he’s refusing it. i won’t forget you i couldn’t forget you ever. if he says it, he’ll believe it, and it will be true.
they may have taken his memories, but that’s not the only way to remember someone.
jamie looks at the stars and he can feel the distance, the vastness, the emptiness. he used to think wishing on shooting stars was foolish, but now he screws his eyes shut tight and longs for something he’s not sure of.
his hands always feel slightly empty. always too big around what they’re holding, his knife, his kilt, even his pipes don’t fit the same. grasping for something more solid, softer, alive, clutching back at him.
he plays a song that he’s not sure he ever learnt. it’s meant for two, to be played in harmony. he plays with only the wind whistling in accompaniment, and imagines the echoes can fill the spaces.
something hollow will always know it is empty when it was once full.
jamie doesn’t remember the doctor. but he will not forget him.

A really out of pocket thought occurred to me while trying to wake up for work, ahead of Fit’s stream today.
FitMC is a Kingdom Hearts fan.
He often has different tracks from the first two games playing in the background of his streams. This has been really consistent since the start of the QSMP, alongside the Final Fantasy X OST.
Both games have strong themes tied to memories, dreams, and otherworldly powers manipulating reality and the people in it.
I believe he’s mentioned KH2 as being one of his faves, and really liking the character Roxas. A character who you start that game with, enjoying the last 7 days of his summer vacation with his friends in a place called Twilight Town.
And who — if you’ll allow for slight, extremely simplified spoilers for an 18 year old game (ignore any unrelated internal high pitched screaming you can hear in the distance, I just feel really old all of a sudden) — discovers the entire world he lives isn’t real, that everything and (almost) everyone present is simulated, and that he is considered a means to an end to regain the data needed to restore someone else’s existence.
Everybody’s favourite Federation Janitor is on the island on a mission, under the guise of being on vacation. He has received reminders, twice, in the form of a clock delivered by a Code Entity that his time is running out. He is here to recover all of the player data. And he has stated that everyone else on the Island would hate him if they knew the real reason why he was really there.
Adding to that: Fit’s memory has been glitching on him recently, key details forgotten - such as the name of the Contractor who originally sent him to Quesadilla Island. Visual glitches occur on screen and Fit winces with the onset of headaches. Three times now this has led to him preparing to enter a deep sleep, with the hopes of recovering those memories. That third time may be tonight.
"A scattered dream that's like a far-off memory. A far-off memory that's like a scattered dream. I want to line the pieces up—yours and mine." — Kingdom Hearts II
I think that we are about to witness the end of FitMC’s “vacation” on Quesadilla Island. And we’re going to get a peek behind the curtain at what’s coming for the server in the new year.
"I've been having these weird thoughts lately.. Like… is any of this for real, or not?" — Kingdom Hearts

what happened to the collections on queerliblib.overdrive.com? i saved the link to the nonfiction for black history month collection so i could look at it later, but now it's just a 404 error and the "collections" menu is blank!
hello! so those different categories you see pop up on the OverDrive website and in Libby like ‘In Translation’ or ‘Asexual Spectrum Representation’ are curated lists that we build from the collection. We can also only have a certain number of these lists published at one time, so we rotate a few out each month. non-fiction for Black History Month, and our valentines list, were cycled out so we could have space to post a list for Women’s History Month.
we’re sorry that caused some confusion/frustration! the good news though, is that all those books are still in our collection. you can browse just our non-fiction here, and keep an eye out for relevant titles like She Called Me Woman, Bayard Rustin: a Legacy of Protest & Politics, When they Tell You to be Good, The Famous Lady Lovers, Black Queer Freedom, & more
