So you mean the whole of Marvel's Phase 4 was about grief and what's the worst (or best) loss can bring us? I still can't believe I realized this just now rewatching Thor.

Thor 4: Love and Thunder (2022) review:
Tumblr media
THE DOWNGRADE WE DIDN'T SEE COMING
review by: francis
I love Thor: Ragnarok so much. It's in my Top 10 favorite MCU movies and I was so excited about what Taika Waititi can offer next with Thor 4. Sadly, I didn't expect to be disappointed.
Christian Bale and his character Gorr are wasted, and under-utilized in the film. Literally one of the biggest things I was incredibly excited to see and ended up like that. Bale's performance was great, truly menacing and I think he's such perfect casting, but he was even barely in the movie and we didn't see him actually butcher a God. I also think his backstory was a little underdeveloped and turned into a joke.
The pacing was pretty weird. Can't even tell if it was bad or what.
My biggest issue, of course, just like everybody else is the amount of unnecessary and cringe humor. They were too much. It feels like a kid's movie and that final battle with the kids was honestly terrible. Thor: Ragnarok had a lot of humor too but they were done well at least.
As usual, Chris Hemsworth plays Thor well. He was great in the movie.
Nevertheless, the movie was still funny and enjoyable. The visuals were stunning and the soundtracks are lit. The action sequences especially in that black and white scene were cool. Jane Foster's Thor and Valkyrie were great in the movie as well. But unfortunately, it didn't live up to its hype. It is such a disappointment knowing Thor: Ragnarok was a masterpiece and it has the same director.
I’ll rate “Thor 4” a 3/5 👍
I don't know what to feel about MCU's Zeus. He was funny though. I'm also excited that Hercules is coming.

Thor 4: Love and Thunder director asked Natalie Portman if she wanted to be in his 'Star Wars' movie, forgetting that she starred in the prequel trilogy.
Thor 4: Love and Thunder director asked Natalie Portman if she wanted to be in his ‘Star Wars’ movie, forgetting that she starred in the prequel trilogy.
Natalie Portman is no stranger to a great franchise. Years earlier, she starred in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy. Alex J. Berliner/ABImages, Lucasfilm « Thor: Love and Thunder Director Taika Waititi forgot that Natalie Portman starred in « Star Wars » Movies (s. Waititi told the rolling stone he asked Portman if he wanted to be in his next “Star Wars” movie. He said that she reminded him…

End credits scene #2 in Love and Thunder... let's talk about it (obviously spoilers below)
TW: Cancer, death
Valhalla is only for warriors who die during battle (as established in Sif's scene during dialouge that seemed to be just throwaway lines at the time). Jane didn't die until after the literal battle with Gorr was over.
In other words, Jane doesn't go to Valhalla for dying bravely during the battle with Gorr. Jane goes to Valhalla for dying bravely during her battle with cancer, and I just think that's a beautiful statement about people who are fighting severe, severe illnesses.

I love that Love and Thunder completely ignored toxic masculinity and acknowledged that Thor was dealing with some really heavy shit and that it’s okay for men to admit to/release their emotions, that it’s okay for them to be broken and lost because anyone would feel that. Just one of the reasons this movie was an absolute gem.

Children are often a plot device, with tropes like Child in the refrigerator or Child in distress. And often Marvel forgets that their movies are actually watched by parents *and* their children. Not in Love and Thunder.
We are given those two tropes but then, the children are given voice (in the form of Axl, but some other kids too), encouragement and quite literally the power to fight. They are allowed to say "we are scared" and "we are children". When the big bad comes to speak to them, he is just menacing but never touches them, never even comes close (he did have a daughter their age after all).
And they fight the way children fight, some aggressively and more hero-like, but some like princesses and faeries. It makes adults smile but what would it feel to be the kind of little girl who likes princesses to see yourself defeating a big bad by being a playful princess?
It is heartwarming and funny to see how a child uses their teddy bear as a weapon because we all know teddy bears protect us when we sleep and make us feel safe in unknown environments, but isn't it the same Thor does with his weapons?
It is an ongoing joke about Mjolnir and Stormbreaker that he speaks to them, treats them as people (and they actually react too, they have opinions), but isn't it the same thing children do with their favourite toys? Don't you speak with your doll? Doesn't it feel like she can understand you? The teddy bear scene would be mocking childhood innocence if it weren't for all the times Thor feels deeply about his toys (and well, if they didn't give it powers).
It is a movie for children, with teachings for children. It also shows you that you can be loved and accepted no matter what. Even the child in the refrigerator lives and has someone who cares about her.
And sure, there is mention of an orgy but any child invested in Greek Mythology has read worse (specially coming from Zeus).
So yes, making children a part of it all is my favourite thing about this movie. Only because of this, I think it's superior to many others despite its many flaws.

I haven’t even seen it yet but Thor: Love & Thunder might be the most comic accurate marvel movie yet. you know why? because it’s ridiculous.
I will never shut up about the fact that comics are just…absolutely ridiculous! they’re colourful and weird and imaginative and so so random. your favourite character has almost definitely been gay and/or a woman at some point in time. and if they haven’t, they’ve at least slept with an alien. they are stories told through silly little drawings that have been adapted by hundreds of different authors and artists, each with their own interpretations and agendas. they are supposed to fun and unrealistic and weird as fuck, and their film adaptations should be too.
edit: I saw it. just as weird and random and colourful and fun and funny as I’d hoped. Valkyrie pls step on me
