A/N: holy shit it’s been a while. i wasn’t sure how i wanted to proceed with this, given a) how long it’s been since an update and b) how much time and work i put into this story. the next and last chapter *should* be out before the end of the month, i hope. i decided to split the ending into two more chapters instead of one, just to give myself the space i needed to end it. this is for @punemy-spotted’s Princess Power Hour challenge, which i am so effing late for it isn’t even funny, but i still hope you all enjoy this update. divider by @firefly-graphics

When Thor dreams, it is of you.
You stand in front of a tree not unlike the one he saw in his nightmare. He knows it’s you—the stubborn set of your jaw, your determined glare—he could never mistake it. The trunk of the tree behind you is gnarled and black, it’s roots digging into the earth like a tangled mess of snakes. You are not alone, two older girls stand in front of you, their faces taunting.
One of them sneers. “A runt. What a waste.”  The other giggles in agreement.
“Maybe the mother didn’t send you after all.”
He wonders if perhaps it is your dream, or maybe not a dream at all, but a memory. It shifts like running paint, colors and textures flowing into one another until he is standing in the same place, only… different.
 Darker.
The grass is dead beneath his feet, and the sky above is grey, listless. You kneel before the tree, and behind you, a haggard crone draws symbols in the flesh of your back with a blade of sharpened bone. There is another beside you, her flesh baring the same angry red markings.
“Do not fail.” Her voice is the whisper of dying things. “Fall if you must, but do not fail.”
He opens his eyes, sitting up with a sharp intake of breath. The clearing is as it had been the night before, the embers of the fire still smoldering in the little pit you’d made. The sun filters down through the bare tree branches and thick mist, and for a moment, Thor wonders if he is dreaming still—dreaming your dreams, dreaming your memories.
You are slumped beside him, the soft, steady whisper of your breath an indication of your exhaustion. In truth, Thor hadn’t even known your kind needed sleep—he had not once seen you close your eyes since the village. But you slumber now, your dark lashes resting on the apples of your cheeks, your lips parted as you breathe.
Honestly, he’d expected you to be hideous. When he had pulled back your hood and found a woman staring at him—not a monster, and certainly not demon beneath it. You are sharp. Everything about you is all rough hewn edges  and pricker bushes, from your flashing eyes to the words on the dagger you call a tongue.
 But sleeping, you are simply…beautiful.
There is a deep twinge in his side where the crow gored him, but when Thor passes his hand over the wound, there is no blood. He sits up away from the tree, pulling aside the thick leather-hide armor to peer at the marred skin beneath. Shiny veins of scar tissue run along the taut, stiff muscle, the flesh knotted and misshapen—but whole.
 You had healed him.
Thor looks on you with renewed wonder. He’d never known a witch to heal—in fact, he did not know you could.
There seems to be much I do not know.
You don’t stir as he leans in close again, inspecting you. He can remember the dream as clearly as if it were his own memory, and he wonders if you might have been different if you had been raised like he was, with a mother and a father. If you might have grown up and had a husband one day—
Thor shakes his head as if to dislodge the errant thought from his mind. What does it matter to him what the marriage customs of your people are?
“Stop staring at me, andjaki.” You mumble. “Or I’ll take your eyes.” You look tired, dark circles beneath your lidded eyes as you glare through your lashes at him. “I mean it.”
 Sharp.
“Would that not violate your oath, witchling?” Thor asks, redirecting his gaze to the tangled wall of vines you’d raised to be their shelter. He doesn’t see your scowl, but he can feel your eyes boring into the back of his head like red hot pokers. He swallows his laughter at your grumbling, rising from the hollow of the tree. His clothes are stiff and sticky with blood, and he grimaces as he pulls a long black feather from the folds of his cloak.
“Burn that,” you say, your own voice still gravelly with sleep as you get to your feet. “It’s one of his.” You pointedly ignore his jibe, watching with keen eyes as Thor tosses the feather into the smoldering embers that remain from last night’s fire. He tosses the feather in, and it smokes and curls away into ash as he watches. The stones are still hot, and a strange, inky pattern is painted across their surface. It’s all hard angles, no soft curves, just squares and rectangles, long straight lines and sudden sharp turns.
“I had… strange dreams,” he says quietly, still staring at the patterns on the stone. “Though I suppose that is to be expected when the Walker comes for you.” You are standing with your back to him, your palm resting against the tree you’d both slept beneath. Although you aren’t wreathed in living shadows like the first time he’d seen you, Thor notes that the tips of your fingers are dark black anyway.
“I saw your Birth Tree, and you beneath it.”
“What?” You turn sharply to him, your eyes first wide with shock and then narrow with fear and disbelief. “You-you could not,” you stammer, your fingers tense, digging into the jagged tree-bark beneath your palm. “Your fever dreams are not visions of truth, hunter.” There is a finality in your tone that Thor chooses to ignore, shouldering brusquely on as though you hadn’t demanded his silence.
“Two girls. They spoke of you, they said… you were the last. That—”
“Enough.” You hold up a hand as you draw up your hood with the other. “W-we must move on.” You toss him Toothgnasher’s reins. “Here, your beast.” She does not wish to speak of it. You do not mount his horse again, instead keeping pace easily a few steps away as the two of you follow the path of the blight back towards its source.
Thor’s every attempt at conversation is met with terse silence or short, clipped answers. The day passes tediously this way, your lips locked together in a thoughtful scowl. It is through this forced, stony quiet that Thor hears the rushing of the river before he sees it. You hear it too, perking up as your bright eyes scan the gray, decrepit woods. The forest slopes gradually downward toward the banks of a thunderous river. White foam dances on top of the roiling current. As if to offer his opinion, Toothgnasher snorts, stomping his hoof.
“You’re right about that, beastie,” you sigh. “We’ll need another way across.”
Thor dismounts, and walks through the short, dead grass to the water. Not dead. The grass isn’t quite dead, it retains a shade of sickly but visible green. He bends to inspect it, breaking off a blade between his fingers.
“The water,” he says softly, reaching forward to trail his fingers in the coolness of it. “The water is keeping the grass alive, even… Even though everything else is dead.” He stands, wiping his hand on his trousers. You hum, nodding.
“Water is life—memory.” You incline your head a little, and if Thor didn’t know any better, he would think it was in respectful greeting. “It runs through all of the old places, the secret places. There is nothing water doesn’t know.” You walk forward too, squatting on the bank and dipping a single, pitch stained finger below the surface.
“There is a beaver dam. Two—maybe three miles upriver. It might be shallow enough to cross there.”
 “The water told you that?”
You snicker. “The broken sticks floating downriver told me that.” You wipe your wet hand off on your cloak. The same guarded, bitter look twists your pretty features as you draw the dark fabric closer about yourself. “Let us move on.”
Thor does not re-mount his horse, choosing to walk beside you instead as  the two of you follow the river upstream.
“Must we continue throug the Lich’s kingdom in silence, or might we speak?” For a while you do not answer, and several minutes tick by, punctuated by only the sound of water beating against the stony shore. He wonders if perhaps you’d not heard him, but the foul temper on your face speaks to the opposite.
“It is my shame you wish to discuss, andjaki,” your voice is low and full of misplaced venom. “Memories you stole—”
“Let us speak truth, witchling,” Thor snaps. “You know I am no thief.” Thor tries to stop, but you continue to walk, stubbornly marching forward through the dying grass.
“You cannot steal what was freely given,” Thor says softly, catching your hand as you try to turn away. “Even if the gift was unintentional.” He realizes belatedly that he has not touched you before. Your hand is surprisingly soft in his, and when you reluctantly meet his eye, Thor does not recognize the emotions laid bare on your drawn face. This is the first time he has ever seen you look unsure. Bold determination is what usually lines the set of your jaw, but in this moment, you are uncertain. Torn.
“I-I do not understand why the Mother shares these visions with you of all people,” your voice is brittle like the reeds on the banks of the river.
“Nor do I.” Thor releases your hand, and you cross your arms, cradling them to your chest.
“My people, say that the very first of us was the tree.” You stare out over the misty water. “And there was so much magic in her that her branches grew heavy with fruit. And when the fruit was ripe, it fell to the earth, and from its seeds, we came.”
 “I don’t—”
“There are no more seeds now.” You whisper. “I was the last. The only.” Your eyes are glassy with tears unshed when they meet his. “You asked, hunter, why my people sent me.” You swallow thickly. “They did not.”
Thor doesn’t understand. He saw you, beneath the twisted black wormwood tree, preparing to embark on your journey. A ghostly witness, but a witness nonetheless.
 “I do not understand.”
“You saw, did you not, hunter?” You ask sharply. “Great sister with her blade of bone.”
 “The crone marked you.”
“Yes,” you agree, the words sounding choked and stilted as you swallow against the tears you will not allow to fall. “But not for the journey. For sacrifice.” There’s a bitter edge to your voice. You push up the cuff of your sleeve, and Thor sees the markings there, too. Ancient letters in a language he cannot hope to read. “To take the seed of my power, the link that binds me to the chain, and give it to another.” The laugh that leaves your chest is dry and cold. “Do you see now, hunter?” You ask. “I was not chosen.” You look down at the ground. “I was a mistake.”
Thor understands now, the words you won’t say. You tried to give the power back, give it back like you had in the woods, only it hadn’t worked, had it? It could not—if it had, he supposed you would not be here, and there would be another in your stead.
“Witchling.” You wipe at your face with a quiet sniffle. Thor reaches for your shoulder, squeezing it beneath the fabric of your cloak. “A gift cannot be un-given.“ You try to avoid his gaze, but he does not let you, catching your chin between his thumb and forefinger. “No matter how unworthy others might find the bearer.”
He is close enough to feel the ghost of your breath against his face, your lips parted as you stare up at him. For a moment, there is utter silence. The sound of the river fades, the wind whispering through the dry grass seems to still, and Thor is struck with the sudden urge to kiss you. To press his mouth against yours and quiet your sorrow for an instant—
But you break the spell, pulling away and drawing your cloak tightly around yourself like a shield. The world pours back in, filling in around the blurry edges as Thor chastises himself.
“The dam,” you point upriver. Through the mist, Thor can just make out the shape, jutting out of the water. You’re gone before he can speak, scampering up the bank like a lithe shadow. Thor sighs, and wraps Toothgnasher’s reins around his fist before following after.
 —
The vast, and seemingly unending crypt of dark, dead trees reluctantly yields to rocky, sloping plains as the two of you travel onward past the river. They had been wetlands once, when things were green and growing, and there was life yet in the now barren soil. Now, though, the field of rocks and short, frail grass stretches as far as the black mountains marking the horizon.
When Thor suggests the two of you make camp, you don’t complain. His side, though outwardly healed, still burns with pain, and your own exhaustion is written clearly in the dark bags beneath your bleary eyes. There is shelter of a fashion beneath a rocky outcropping, which offers a welcome respite from the brutal, stinging wind.
You draw patterns in the hard-baked earth with a stick by the firelight, your knees tucked tightly beneath your chin as Thor feeds the flames with bits of dry grass and kindling. It doesn’t take long before you’re slumped over, the stick falling loosely from your inky fingertips. Thor peers cautiously beneath your hood, and finds your lashes resting firmly against your cheeks, soft breaths whispering out from between your slightly parted lips.
He reaches for you, tucking one large arm beneath your thighs as he picks you up gingerly. His side twinges as he lifts, but he swallows the pain with a silent grimace. You mumble something, shifting in his arms before settling against his chest, and in spite of himself, Thor smiles.
Not quite so intimidating asleep, are you Witchling?
Carefully, he sets you down in the hollow of the weather beaten rocks, tucking your cloak around you. He settles himself next to you with a tired sigh.
“Why move me?” You grumble sleepily.
“If you would like to freeze to death, by all means, feel free to resume your former position, Witchling.” When no further complaint comes, Thor finally allows his own eyes to begin drifting shut. Through the daze of oncoming sleep, he feels you shift, curling in on yourself as you tuck into his side.
“Goodnight, Witchling.”
He almost doesn’t hear your sleep-addled reply.
 “Goodnight, Thor.”
 —
 He is in the woods.
All of the trees are the same, withered and black like old fingers. There were Gods here, once, but the one has overtaken the many, has supped on them like a rabid, starving dog. All that is left now is this skeleton and their hungry, angry ghosts.
Thor looks at the sky, black and unending, and then at the earth. It pulses beneath his feet like a dying heartbeat.
“Hunter.” Your voice is a whisper on the wind, an echo of itself. Thor sees you through the trees, a coy smile gracing your pretty lips, your tar-stained finger curled as you beckon him. There are a thousand thousand voices pouring from your lips, and each  one is like shattering glass, like breaking bone. There is green fire in the black, empty pits of your eyes, and it runs down your cheeks like tears.
The dream folds in on itself, and suddenly there are no trees, save for one. Black, twisted branches reach up toward the sky, laden with rotting fruit. Even in the dream, Thor retches at the smell of sour meat, spitting into the dead grass and dry dirt in the tangle of roots at it’s base.
“Hunter!” Your hand wraps around his arm, your expression frantic. “You must wake, you must—”
“Silence.” The decaying hand that covers your mouth stinks of magic, burnt ozone filling Thor’s nostrils. You tug at it, your own fingers digging into the rotting flesh to no avail. More hands, hundreds of them, burst from the roots of the tree, pushing up through the bark to grab at you. Thor reaches for you, but you are pulled down to your knees, writhing in the dirt.
“Don’t worry about her, hunter,” drawls the figure who emerges from the thick mist surrounding the wormwood tree. Thor watches as the man draws closer, his thin, pale fingers reaching for the hood. A crown of bone, sinew and bark rests against his brow, cushioned by his long, dark hair. His face is monstrous, half eaten away by the unnatural  fire dancing in his empty sockets. There is enough left, however, to make hot lead fill Thor’s turned stomach.
 “Loki?”
 The Lich smiles.
“Ah, brother.” There is green fire at the back of his throat. “It appears,” he says, licking what is left of his lips, “that we have much to discuss.”
to be continued…

Cries of Thunder
Chapter Twenty-Two
Tumblr media
Master List |  Thor Odinson Master List
Previous Chapter
Pairing: Thor Odinson x OFC Fallon Smith (post Ragnarok - no Thanos)
Warnings: This story deals with themes of past spousal abuse to the extremes. There is a chance that all chapters may deal with tough or triggering themes. Please read with caution. Smut. nsfw, angst
A/N: Thank you, @magpiegirl80, for your coffee update and for bringing this chapter to life!
They walked quietly through the halls, comfortable in the silence. Occasionally, Fallon's fingers brushed his, or Thor's skimmed hers. Their knuckles would tangle, or his fingers would dip inside and caress her palm. They didn't hold hands, but this was somehow more intimate and playful, making Fallon smile.
While their time with Amani was a little embarrassing, it allowed Fallon to open up about how nervous she was about her relationship with someone bigger than life. Thor frowned at the saying, but once she explained, he sighed because there wasn't much he could do about his popularity. It wasn't something he craved or cultivated -anymore- but it wouldn't go away just because they wanted it to. New Asgard was the only place where he was treated just like anyone else -outside his Avengers friends. Even then, he would still be King.
Fallon knew all that, but it still made her nervous. She understood now that he found her worthy, but she struggled with insecurities and doubt. How could anyone think she belonged with such a specimen of a man?
One moment, she walked at his side; the next, she was dragged through a door he quickly locked behind them before pulling her deeper into his suite.
Fallon blinked. She hadn't realized that was where they were going; just followed along, lost in her head.
The thud of his big axe dropping to the ground made her jump, but it was the rest of his body, caging her against the wall, that caused her pulse to leap into overdrive.

Loki's Silent Sentry (Part 1)
Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 4 / Part 5 ( Part 6 in progress)
Pairing: Loki x female reader (y/n)
Summary: You are not just a soldier in Asgard's Royal Army, you are Lieutenant Y/L/N, Prince Loki's personal guard, his sentry and you are not supposed to fall in love with him. If you followed your training properly, you should never have even spoken to him. As a sentry, you are expected to remain silent and invisible as you shadow your appointed member of the royal family or member of the court protectively throughout their daily tasks.
Rumors (that happen to be true) begin to circulate through the palace that you serve the younger prince of Asgard both outside and inside his chambers. There is little you can do once word of your off duty activities spread through every maid, cook, gardener and seamstress in the palace. You soon find even the soldiers in your own company are now questioning how exactly you had come to earn your seemingly quick rise to lieutenant.
As the annual Winter Solstice Ball approaches, you come to the heartbreaking realization that your relationship with Loki must come to an end if you are both to fulfill your duties.
Warnings: Angst, arguing, Thor being an absolute ass, Odin being a terrible father
A/N: I did some googling quickly for military terms and ranks (since I have no previous knowledge of them) as well as some basic information about the royal guards in England. I took some of what I found interesting and then made up most of the rest to fit what I needed for my story so there will be some similarities. Also... I haven't written anything in like a year (maybe longer) so be nice please 💚💚
Tumblr media
You stand at constant attention in silence outside of Prince Loki's private office. You listen to the birds singing through the open window across the hall from where you are posted and wonder how long you could go without making a sound. You have been trained by the Royal Army for years to remain silent, vigilant, always listening and watching your surroundings for anything dangerous or out of the ordinary. You are always on guard, ready to protect Prince Loki should the need arise. Not that someone with his fighting skills or magic would need protection from a simple soldier like you. You were assigned this post purely because it was customary for each member of the royal family to have a sentry, whether they actually need one or not.
Your attention is drawn to the sound of footsteps approaching from your left. You are unable to determine how many people are coming but judging by their pace and heavy boots, they are most likely all soldiers. Commandant Thorn, the soldier in charge of your company, makes his way down the hall at a steady pace. He is followed by your captain, Captain Skye who is holding a leather bound book containing the names of all the sentries and their current posts. Trailing the two older men, are four low ranking soldiers you can't remember the names of.
The group of soldiers comes to a stop in front of you and your fellow guard and you both salute your commanding officers. "Lieutenant Y/L/N," Captain Skye says, opening his book for a moment. He closes it and looks up at you, "Prince Loki will of course be attending the Winter Solstice Ball. You will be required to escort him to the ballroom and remain on guard there until he dismisses you for the evening."
You nod in response, carefully hiding the heavy emotions you have surrounding the upcoming ball. The soldiers move on and you are left alone with the other guard again. She says nothing to you and even if you were allowed to speak, you know Sergeant Sands wouldn't talk to you. She is not your friend, none of the members of the Royal Guard are your friends. It wasn't always this way though, it is only since you were promoted to the rank of lieutenant that the guards you work with began to distance themselves from you.
You had been assigned to Prince Loki for three months when you were promoted from sergeant to lieutenant. Your fellow soldiers immediately assumed the young prince had a hand in it as he did little to hide how he favored you over the other guards who were previously assigned to him. The rumors about you spending the night in Loki's chamber instead of guarding it flowed through the palace soon after. You adamantly denied these rumors and any favoritism from the prince but it was a wasted effort. It also happened that the rumors were true to a point.
The door to Loki's office opens and you stand at attention as the court accountant exits, holding several rolls of paper and mumbling to himself. Sargeant Sands follows him without any orders needed, she is his sentry and will go where he goes. As she walks past by, she glances at you with what can only be described as a look of disgust. You look down at your boots, fully aware of what she is thinking.
You wait quietly for Loki to open the door again but you know him, he will want to read through all of his notes from today before he finalizes his meeting schedule for tomorrow. You have roughly half an hour until he will be done, half an hour to stand here and think about the dreaded Winter Solstice Ball.
Tumblr media
Another half an hour later, as expected, Loki opens the door and walks out. Waving his hand towards the door, he uses his magic to seal the room. He smiles warmly at you and you smile back at him for the first time today. This was your favorite part, the part where the sun goes down and Loki frees you from your constant silence.
He touches your cheek softly and leans in to kiss you. You kiss him back but pull away quickly as you hear footsteps approaching. You step away from Loki and stand at attention as Prince Thor comes around a corner. You keep your eyes straight ahead but you can feel Loki stiffening next to you, he and his brother get along much better when they are at court than they do in private.
The brothers greet each other politely and you silently wish the older prince would simply continue on his way but it doesn't seem likely. Your attention shifts to the window across the hall from you again, you can just barely glimpse the sunset over the tall evergreen trees in the distance. You know Loki will tell you if he and Thor discuss anything interesting so there is no need for you to listen to their conversation. The two of them continue for several long minutes before you realize Thor has said something to you.
"Lieutenant Y/L/N?" Thor says and you shake your head as you shift your focus.
"I'm sorry your highness, I was unaware you were speaking to me," you apologize. He had never spoken to you before and you were unsure why he would start now. Loki folds his arms across his chest and you feel uneasy at how annoyed he seems.
Thor laughs which does nothing to make you feel better. "I was wondering what it was about you that made you my brother's favorite," he says. "You must truly be special, a sentry's post typically only lasts three months, perhaps six at the most. You have been with Loki for how long now?"
You think for a moment before replying. You had been assigned to Loki for only a month before he first spoke to you and you had quickly become close friends. Three months after becoming friends with the prince, you slowly became more until you were completely in love with him.
"Fourteen months," you answer him in as few words as possible.
Thor looks at his younger brother with a smirk, "Fourteen?" Loki remains silent and you can tell his older brother is not even close to letting you leave soon. He turns his attention to you again, "So is it true then?"
"Is what true your highness?" you ask quietly.
"That you follow my brother's orders when you are wearing your armor and when you are not?" he laughs and his sentry smiles then looks towards the ground. "I could use a sentry like that, I grow tired of being followed by these shadows."
Loki's fist clenches but he answers Thor calmly. "Maybe if you learned your sentries name and weren't so insufferable to be around, they would remain at your service for longer than a month at a time," Loki says. "And you are the last person I would expect to listen to palace rumors. According to the most recent ones I've heard, you've slept with nearly half of the kitchen staff this month alone."
Thor smiles, proud of himself. You and Loki realize the stories you had overheard were true, if not understated. He explains, "That is why I assume the rumors of you and your little pet are true as well."
You find yourself in that brief moment wishing Loki would confirm everyone's suspensions. Not necessarily that you were sleeping together, that you were in love and wanted to be together. You know wishing for this is as useful as wishing it would rain gold. Once again you remind yourself that this is the way it will always be, until he marries a woman of high status and you are forgotten.
Instead of responding, Loki turns from his brother and walks down the hall towards the stairwell that leads to the royal family's chambers. You follow him silently, staying a few steps behind as always.
"Come now brother, I was merely joking," Thor calls from behind you but neither of you stop walking.
The two of you continue on in silence until you reach the top of the stairs and Loki's pace slows so he is walking next to you. His hand finds yours, his thumb gently stroking your knuckles. As soon as you feel his touch, you begin to relax.
"I'm sorry about my brother," he says quietly.
"His behavior isn't your fault," you reply. "And he is far from the first person to corner me about our relationship. I am used to denying the truth."
He stops, causing you to turn back towards him, your hand still holding his. He then takes a few small steps, closing the distance between you. Loki touches your cheek gently with his other hand. "I'm sorry Y/N," he tells you again. "I wish we didn't have to hide but you know there are some rules even I cannot break so openly. Maybe I should have hid my favoritism towards you better but I couldn't bear to have you reassigned. You mean too much to me."
You smile, "So I am your favorite sentry?"
He lets out a laugh, "You are my favorite person in the nine realms." You giggle at his answer and his fingers trail down your cheek until his thumb gently runs across your lips. He leans down to kiss you but just as his lips touch yours, you feel your heart jumps in your chest.
You hear several sets of footsteps and separate yourself from Loki in an instant. He looks down the hall as his mother, two of her maids and one guard come into view. She smiles brightly at both of you as she comes closer and you bow to the queen in respect. You find it hard to miss the side eye from her sentry or the whispers shared between her maids. Loki gives his mother a hug and wishes her a goodnight. She tells him to have a goodnight as well and continues on her way.
You and Loki walk off in the opposite direction towards his chambers and once you are alone again, Loki moves to take your hand but you flinch away. He looks hurt by your momentary rejection but he doesn't say anything. He knows how nervous you are about being seen touching him or speaking to him. You round the next corner and are flooded with relief as Loki's door finally comes into view. You fight the urge to smile, holding onto your composure as you've been trained.
Loki opens the door and steps inside, you follow him as you always do and he closes the door. He flicks his wrists towards you without a word and the heavy armor you wear over your clothing instantly settles itself neatly into a large chest. You take a few deep breaths, feeling as if most of the weight you have been carrying leaves you, but not all.
"Thank you your highness," you say out of habit.
"Please, never call me that in here," he reminds you gently. "In here I'm not a prince, I'm just Loki." He walks towards you and you don't realize you are moving away from him until your back hits the door and his body comes flush to yours. One hand settles on your hip while his other hand lifts your chin, causing you to look up at him. He continues, "And you are not Lieutenant Y/L/N, you are Y/N. The woman I am so deeply in love with." He smiles and you can't help but smile back at his words. All your worries vanish the instant his lips meet yours.
Tumblr media
You lay in Loki's arms watching the sunlight fill his room through the sheer curtains. You try to memorize the sound of his slow, steady breathing and the feel of his heart beat against your back as he holds you even in his sleep. You inhale deeply and focus on deciphering every herb and oil Loki uses to keep his hair soft. Closing your eyes, you use your senses to bring an image of Loki's face into your mind and try to hold it there.
"What are you thinking about my love?" he asks in a sleepy voice. You open your eyes and shift closer to him, pulling his arms tighter around your body. "Y/N, what's wrong?" he asks, now much more awake.
You swallow hard, trying to find the words. You had been thinking about what you needed to do most of the night but now that it was time, you weren't sure you would be able to do it.
"I've told you, you can speak freely here," he says softly, urging you gently as always to speak your mind when you were with him. His fingers move slowly up and down your arm as he tries to comfort you without knowing what is causing your distress.
"I need to transfer to a new post," you tell him. You hear him inhale sharply as his fingers suddenly go still.
Tumblr media
You stand outside Loki's office with Thor's new guard and two others in silence waiting for a very long meeting to conclude. You stifle a yawn and shift uncomfortably on your feet before regaining your composure. The tall guard standing across from you rolls his eyes while the woman next to him mumbles something that can only be about you.
It has been two days since you told Loki you wanted to transfer and you hadn't heard anything from your commanding officer. In the meantime, you decided to go back to sleeping in your assigned room at the soldiers quarters. You had forgotten how much you hated it there. The common areas are loud and there is little privacy, everyone is in everyone else's business. You barely leave your room, which is a surprise to no one. They wouldn't speak to you even if you did. You live in a world of utter silence surrounded by never ending noise.
You feel as if you are shattering from the inside out and you try to remind yourself that it needs to be this way. The two of you hid in his chambers as if it protected your relationship but it could never be real. How could it be when he could barely acknowledge your presence when in public. He is a prince and you are a soldier as were your parents, you were not high born. Loki is destined to marry the daughter of a council member and you will guard them and their children.
The door to Loki's office opens, you and the three guards stand at attention. Prince Thor walks out first, followed by two council members. They walk off in different directions, shadowed closely by their sentries but you remain, as always, at Loki's door.
Tumblr media
You stare at the wall in front of you for what feels like eternity. Your mind wanders between your favorite memories from your brief time with Loki and the crushing weight of your current reality. You stand up straighter when you hear the door swing open and Loki steps out.
"Lieutenant Y/L/N," he says, "I need to speak with you."
You nod and follow him into his office, closing the door behind you. You stand motionless, taking in his office and how much it feels like him. The dark wood bookshelves crowded with leather bound books, the chair pulled close to the window so he can see the garden below when drinking his afternoon tea, the green and gold accents on various pieces of furniture.
You sigh to yourself as you follow him to his desk. He takes a seat and you stand across from him with your arms behind your back, waiting for him to speak first.
"Y/N," he says informally but you don't relax. "Your transfer to a new post was not approved."
"Can I ask why your highness?" you keep the formalities as you've been trained.
"The Winter Solstice Ball is in less then a week," he answers as if you could forget. "The Royal Guard seems to be too busy tightening security and preparing for everyone's arrival to complete your paper work at this time."
"Understood, your highness," you say. "I should return to my post." You turn to head back outside of his office.
"Wait," he calls and you freeze just before you reach the door. You hear him get up from his seat and walk around the desk. "Please stay, talk to me Y/N. I miss you so much it hurts."
"I can't," you say almost in a whisper
He touches your arm and you turn to face him, seeing the pain in his eyes. "I miss the way your laughter filled my chambers. I miss hearing you hum to yourself when you think I can't hear you. I miss the sound of your voice and how easy it is to talk to you," he says and you force down a smile and the urge to hold him tightly.
"I can't bear to be without you," he tells you and you want to tell him you can't be apart from him either but you remain silent for fear you'll lose your resolve completely. He strokes your cheek gently and you close your eyes as you lean into his touch. "I love you," he says.
"I love you too," you tell him, seeing a spark of hope light his eyes. You shake your head and take a step away from him, "But I can't do this. I'm sorry." Before he can say anything else you tell him, "It will only hurt more the longer we wait to end this."
"We don't have to end this, now or ever," he insists as he steps towards you. "I promise I will find a way for you to be mine, not just when we are hidden away, but always. You believe me, don't you?"
"I want to," you tell him truthfully. Loki had promised several times to find a way to marry you but you thought it was false hope. "But this isn't a fairytale my prince, we don't always get a happy ending."
Tumblr media
You want to disappear into the marble floor, to be sucked into the wall behind you or simply vanish into thin air but you can't. Instead, you must stand perfectly still and silent as you watch the dancing and merriment around you. You momentarily wish you would go back to a time when you didn't feel an ache in your chest at the mere thought of another woman being in Prince Loki's arms. Shaking your head just slightly, you chase away the thought. As much as this hurts, you will always cherish the limited time you shared with him.
The music changes tempo as the first of seven courses comes to an end. Couples begin to take to the open floor in the center of the ballroom. Prince Thor and Prince Loki make their way to the group of single, eligible women awaiting them, each at a different pace. The older prince seems to now exactly which woman he would like to spend time with first. He offers his arm to her and declares her the most beautiful woman at the ball, causing her to blush and giggle. The younger prince takes his time walking to the crowd and simply takes the hand of the closest woman without so much as glancing at her. His lack of interest does little to dampen her excitement however.
The dozen or so women who were not chosen move away from the dance area and you have to hold back a groan as they gather directly in front of you to wait for a chance with one of the princes. You can't help but listen to them discuss which prince they think is better looking or who they would prefer picked them. The first song ends and the two princes each select another dance partner. Again, Prince Thor takes little time deciding who he wants while Prince Loki simply offers his hand to the first woman he sees. You can practically hear him sigh as she holds his arm and walks quickly to the dance floor.
As the second song begins, one of the women briefly looks at you over her shoulder before motioning towards you to her friends. Your ears go red with embarrassment as she tells them the rumors of your past relationship with Loki just loud enough that she knows you will hear. Of course she gets the ending wrong. She assumes, like everyone else, that the prince grew tired of you and banished you from his bed chambers. You had to admit, it seemed a far more likely story than the truth.
You shift your attention to the ceiling for a moment, hoping that counting the candles in the chandeliers will distract you from their stares and comments. You only count to twenty seven before the sound of a glass shattering draws your gaze back to the guests. A council member laughs loudly, clearly drunk already, as a servant cleans the wine glass from the dance floor.
Your eyes scan the room and easily find Loki at the center of the crowd, a third woman in his arms. Your drawn to his face, studying his features. He smiles at the woman as he twirls her and she giggles but she doesn't know him like you do. She doesn't know that's the smile he uses at court, not the smile he shows you. Showed you, you correct yourself. He glances away, not holding eye contact with her as they move effortlessly across the dance floor.
Tumblr media
After the final course is served, the dance floor fills for the last time and you sigh with relief that the night is almost over. You shift on your feet, looking down for a moment when the chatter of the women in front of you begins again. Why must they stand here to wait, you think to yourself.
The princes once again make their way to their potential dance partners and Thor makes his pick quickly. Loki stands in front of the women for a moment and your eyes lock with his as he looks between them.
"Pardon me," he says politely to the crowd as he moves forward, slipping past the confused women. He makes his way towards you and your breath catches in your throat. He stands in front of you and holds out his hand. You look at him, stunned by his actions. He smiles when you don't move, "Will you dance with me, my love?" Still you remain silent, looking past Loki to see how much attention his actions have drawn. "Don't look at them," he says, touching your cheek softly as you look at him again.
You steady your nerves and place your hand in his. The moment his fingers close around yours, you are surrounded by a light cloud of green, shimmery smoke. When Loki's magic fades, you are wearing a flowing emerald green gown with golden trim, perfectly matching his dress uniform. Your hair has been restyled to hold a small gold tiara with short horns, mirroring the helmet he had worn during his entrance.
"Gods, you look gorgeous in my colors," he says with a wide smile, causing you to blush. "To be fair, you are always beautiful but now it is clear to everyone here that you are mine." You feel as if your heart might burst when he calls you his, he had said it before but only when you were hidden away.
Loki keeps his fingers interlaced with yours as he leads you to the dance floor, straight through the group of now very angry women. Some cross their arms, others give you dirty looks and several make rude comments as you pass. You pause before stepping onto the dance floor, the chatter and stares coming from the guests near you holding you back. He senses your hesitation and leans down to place a kiss gently on your cheek.
Your mind can barely begin to process what is happening as he takes you straight to the middle of the dance floor. He places one hand on your hip and you place your hand on his shoulder as you had done so many times over the last few months. You and Loki shared several secret dances in his chambers and his office, he found it difficult to listen to music sitting still.
He holds you close, his eyes never leaving yours while you dance between the other guests. You focus on how amazing it feels to be back in his arms, ignoring the strange looks and whispers that surround you. He twirls you gracefully and you spin back into him, giggling as you final feel at ease. As the song draws to a close, Loki spins you one final time. When he pulls you back to him, he leans down slightly and your lips meet his.
Tumblr media
You smile up at him, hoping this isn't a dream when you see his mother approaching you. You take a step away from Loki but he keeps his hand on your waist, not letting you go too far. You bow to the queen and she says, "I think it is my turn to dance with my son."
You nod quickly in agreement and Loki let's go of you, his magic fading instantly as your armor reappears. You walk through the crowd with your head down and return to your post, once again wishing you were invisible. The women watch you, gossiping wildly as you pass again. You can only imagine what they are saying but they are not your biggest concern at the moment.
Anxiously, you watch Queen Frigga and her son move across the dance floor. You can't hear what they are saying of course, but you can tell by her expression that there will be consequences for his actions. As the song ends you see your captain approach you and your stomach drops. Loki will not be the only one to be punished for choosing you.
"The king had summoned you to the throne room," he says in a stern voice. You nod in acknowledgement and when you look back towards the dance floor, Loki and his mother are gone.

A Second Chance
This has been sitting in my WIP pile for a while but I've finally finished writing this!
I do hope you enjoy the sequel to In Another Life inspired by @just-someone11 comment
Ok listen i knew it would be angst. I pushed back reading this knowing it would be angst but still :((((((. wonderfully written and if you find the inspiration maybe you could write Loki meeting y/n in the new life? Idk maybe as tom and yn.....oh oh oh or after Loki dies, so more reuniting in the afterlife
If you like more, check out my Masterlist
Summary: An alternate life brings you and Loki together, along with it is the realization that whatever timeline you may be - you are both connected to each other
Warnings: Angst, mentions of death, fluff, multiverse stuff,
Tumblr media
You've always hated winter - maybe it's the numbing cold that you had to endure every time you have to go out or the fact that everything around you is devoid of color because of the accumulating snow.
This time around, you despised it because you had to walk home into the blizzard under heavy layers of clothing after covering an extra shift for your co-worker who caught the flu in this weather.
You buried your hands inside the fluffy pockets of your coat and hid your face under your scarf to shield you.
Loki and Thor ran through the snow-covered streets of New York chasing after the remaining HYDRA super soldier that stole a rune dagger made from the stinger of a creature from Jotunheim. The same creature in the stories guards the powerful orb. Both are directly connected to each other and have the ability to link the minds of the person's variants, accessing the past, present, and future of one's self in different multiverses. HYDRA was supposed to use the dagger to learn how to unlock this knowledge on Earth, as everything connected to it has been long lost in Asgard. The soldier was almost successful in getting away after fending off Thor and Loki by spreading nerve gas and creating chaos along the way.
────────────────────────
As you were lost in your thoughts, you noticed people around you starting to scramble and run away. You tried assessing the situation and noticed that a super soldier was headed in your direction. You made sure that the people were safe before stepping in and blocking the super soldier. He triggered an unpleasant piece of memory you tried to bury deep in your subconscious.
He ran straight at you, but you were able to use his momentum to throw him straight to the ground and drop an axe kick to his gut before punching him square in the face for good measure, knocking him senseless with a few broken bones.
Before starting your new life as an EMT in New York, you were secretly trained to become an assassin for years by your HYDRA captors after they discovered you were frozen in a lake in Antarctica. You exhibited great fighting skills, exceeding super soldiers even without using the serum, despite lacking any hint of memory prior to being captured. They tried experimenting on you way too many times to discover what you are or where you're from—the best they could come up with was that you were not from Earth.
You were staring down at the unconscious soldier beneath you when your scarf flew away. You scrambled to catch it, but someone got to it first. You looked at the person, and your heart pounded like a battering ram against your chest. You took the scarf and meekly said thanks, but your eyes were locked against each other.
For years, you were their best hit person, until one night you were tasked with dispatching the scientist who's been taking care of you since you arrived at the facility, as she was discovered to be a spy for SHIELD. In her dying breath, she urged you to discover who you truly were and not what HYDRA just wanted you to be. It made you run away to start a new life and be who you are now. Maybe in this new life, you could save lives instead of taking them away.
"Isn't that…" Thor whispered to Loki.
"Y/N?" Loki said as he looked at you intently, etching your very being in his mind.
"Oh no, I'm not y/n. You must have gotten the wrong person."
Nobody had ever called you y/n before but it felt like it always has when Loki says it. It felt like your name was y/n all this time, despite this being your first time hearing it. Was it even the first time?
You got lost in your thoughts when a familiar, searing heat ran through your back. Thor was quick to disarm the now-conscious soldier when he found out he used the rune dagger to stab you. Loki caught you in his arms before you started convulsing.
Memories of all of yourselves flashed before your eyes—what was, what is, and what will be all flashing before you, even your lost memory. You saw the timeline where both you and Loki died after you tried obtaining the orb by Odin's orders. You saw how you fought and defeated the creature in a different universe, with you dying before Loki could get to you and him dying in grief because of your death, encased in permafrost in Jotunheim.
There was also a brighter alternate reality where Loki was a famous actor going by the name of Tom, and there was you—a young scientist working at his grandfather's company. You caught his eye when he came there for a visit, and everything started when he invited you for a cup of coffee. You ended up marrying him and having a daughter together. It was perfect how you welcome him with a kiss every time he comes home from work and your daughter rushes to be carried in her father's arms.
You saw your own past in this universe before you arrived on Earth, Loki was about to confess his love for you when you arrived from one of your battles, and you were about to too, but Odin did not like that, so before you both could, he sent you away to obtain the orb in exchange for his blessing.
In this timeline, Loki thought you knew about his intention and you decided to run away, so he did not pursue you any further, but the reality was that, instead of facing the creature, Laufey found you first and fought against you. Your prowess and resilience made him admire you as a warrior. Instead of killing you, he ended up wiping all of your memory using the orb and banishing you to Midgard, where you were encased in permafrost, which HYDRA discovered.
It felt like forever processing everything all at once, but Loki held you tightly in his arms to protect you from hurting yourself as tears flooded your eyes. You passed out in his arms shortly after. One thing is for sure, in every timeline - you are connected to Loki by the red string of fate.
"What do you intend to do, brother, with the dagger and with her?" Thor asked, handing him the dagger and glancing at you.
Loki took the dagger and used his seidr to vanish it away. "We need to get to the bottom of this. But for now, I need to protect y/n, more than ever. I can't bear to lose her again, brother. We are bringing her to the tower for now; then we must head to Asgard." He spoke as he looked at you. He tucked in the stray hair covering your face behind your ears to take a closer look—you are indeed his y/n, the love of his life.
There are a million things running through his mind right now, but seeing you, he knew he had found a part of him that he tried to lock away when you were gone, a part that loved you and connected both of you against time, space, and all of the multiverse. He swore secretly to himself that he wouldn't lose you again—not in this timeline at least.

When Everything's Made to be Broken - Chapter 9: Something So Brand New
Tumblr media
Summary: Theo makes good on her promise to Loki, and shenanigans ensue.
Author's Notes: So this is a longer chapter than I usually post, but given it all takes place during the span of one evening it didn’t make sense to split into two chapters. If you love Loki/Theo interactions, you’re in for a treat here. There’s also Brodinsons and Wanda/Theo friendship building as well.
I’m *hoping* to post my next chapter on December 10, but I sense that we’re about to hit a rocky patch at my job as a series of stressors all collide (aka shit’s about to hit the fan), so I’m going to give myself a one week buffer and say that the chapter will be up by no later than December 17th. It’s written, but I’ve found that I like to go back and do an in-depth editing pass before posting that usually takes at least a few hours… Essentially, I would rather underpromise and overdeliver than say I’ll post something and then just… not.
Oh, and RE: shit hitting the fan at work - I’m not worried about myself amidst the work stuff (I’m not about to lose my job or anything). I'm worried about the students I work with and how they’ll handle everything… And since my job is supporting said students, I imagine I’ll probably have my hands full. I’m intentionally being vague for privacy reasons, and in hopes that it doesn’t blow up so my concern is pointless.
Completely unrelated, but I saw The Maine live last week and they opened with this song! They put on a great live show. 10/10 do recommend.
If you enjoy, please reblog!! I'm a lil' blog and reblogs really help me out <3
Content Warnings: Alcohol/Drinking (including getting a bit too drunk).

Song: Dose No. 2 - The Maine
First breath out of a coma Over and over Oh what a lovely view of you  A two step into disorder I stumble forward Towards something so brand new
“Hey, uh - some of us are going to hang out up on the roof tonight. Want to join?”
Ever since Theo relented to Loki’s begging (and though he wouldn’t admit it, he totally begged her to join them), a foreboding sense of dread hung over Theo like a storm cloud, waiting for this very moment. A night of forced socializing and feigned pleasantries as the other Avengers tried not to make their suspicions about Theo painfully obvious - Theo would rather watch paint dry.
Across the threshold, hope radiated through the smile on Wanda’s face. She stood with hands in hoodie pockets, jeans and birkenstocks completing the Scarlet Witch’s look for that day. The outfit surprised Theo - from observation, Wanda only wore pants when working out, opting for skirts and dresses in daily life. Theo would have confidently bet real money that Wanda didn’t even own a pair of jeans.
Then again, it wasn’t the first time Theo was wrong, and it wouldn’t be the last.
Every possible excuse percolated in Theo’s mind for why she couldn’t join - lying about having plans, claiming she was tired or didn’t feel well, even outright admitting she didn’t want to go – but then Loki’s voice interrupted her thoughts, reminding her about the deal she struck.
And, well, after reading about the aftermath of Ultron and Sokovia, Theo realized they had more in common than she first thought.
“I— yeah, sure.”  Theo swallowed thickly, steeling herself for a miserable evening. She forced a smile at Wanda, praying that the expression didn’t look as uncomfortable as it felt. “I’ll join - let me grab a couple things first.”
Wanda’s face lit up, eyes wide as planets as she processed Theo's answer. “Great! This is going to be awesome! Uh, you should probably grab shoes, and maybe a jacket - it’s still a bit cool out.” She babbled, still gaping at Theo.
Theo held up a finger, stepping away from the door before Wanda could continue. She grabbed a thick sweater to cut the breeze, toed on some sneakers, and plopped a beanie over her hair, pausing in front of a mirror to make sure she didn’t look like a total mess.
Wanda practically bounced down the hall, constantly glancing back to check and make sure Theo hadn’t abandoned her. Theo trailed behind, listening to Wanda recount the construction of the rooftop lounge and how this was the first year they actually could use the space, and how excited they were to finally have a nice, private outdoor space to gather. At best, Theo half-listened along, her pulse quickening with every step closer to their destination.
As they stepped out onto the rooftop, it actually seemed like the perfect night to enjoy a city skyline and a cold drink.
A fully stocked bar stood along the far end of the roof, while plenty of outdoor seating offered opportunities for everything from lounging around to enjoying a meal. The space even featured a fireplace table and heat lamps for cooler nights, which already had been turned on to cut the chill. True to the Stark aesthetic, all of the furniture came in muted tones and clean lines, sharing design language with the indoor common areas.
The other Avengers had settled in among a series of outdoor sectionals, some standing around the periphery while others gathered near the bar. As they drew closer, Theo realized that the company for the evening consisted of not only Avengers Tower residents, the Avengers who resided elsewhere…
Oh god, when Theo caved to Loki’s request, she had not expected it to play out like this; she thought it would be a movie night, or going out to dinner. Not everyone and their mother staring at her.
As if she sensed Theo’s nervousness, Wanda grabbed Theo’s hand and smiled at her, pulling her towards the larger group.
With every step, Theo braced herself for an icy reception, all the while building up the courage to put on a brave face. She met everyone once, that first day when she was announced as an Avenger - maybe twice, if she counted the briefing that she crashed - so at least there were no new faces.
Small blessings, she supposed.
Wanda didn’t go of Theo’s hand until they reached the edge of the group. It only took Wanda a moment to find Vision, standing behind one of the sectionals as he chatted with Shuri about something very science-y. Vision casually wrapped an arm around her, listening intently to Shuri, who gestured animatedly as she responded.
Nearby, King T’Challa sat tall, dressed in a hybrid of western and African clothing with shoulders squared back as he conversed with Natasha about the United Nations and Wakanda. He spoke with a measured cadence that indicated he put great thought and intent into his words. On the opposite side of Natasha, Yelena slouched back in her seat, scrolling through her phone while laughing at something on screen.
Not far from Yelena, Peter Parker told Tony about school and the latest device he was building. His enthusiasm struck Theo, and she caught herself smiling as she noticed the way Peter mirrored Shuri’s animated gestures, hands flailing wildly as he attempted to describe the contraption. Colonel Rhodes listened from the other side of Tony, with open posture and head tilted to the side, nodding along patiently… It was quite the contrast, especially next to the borderline manic tendencies of Tony and Peter’s unbridled enthusiasm.
Nearby, Bruce spoke with Dr. Stephen Strange - a tall, thin man whose expression was entirely too serious and his posture uncomfortably rigid, which, if Theo thought about it, made sense for a former neurosurgeon. Sharon Carter chatted with Steve, Sam, and Bucky, laughter regularly erupting from the quartet; apparently, they were familiar with each other and had a lot to catch up on.
Clint looked at home behind the bar with Scott Lang, snippets of conversation about their kids floating over the other conversations as they prepared drinks for everyone and brought them over to the group.
Loki and Thor sat in deep discussion with the Valkyrie (or, as Loki often called her, Val) about something related to New Asgard; seeing a Valkyrie in a chunky sweater and Timbalands still threw Theo for a loop, but she knew that different people would adapt different aspects of life on Earth.
Thor noticed Theo standing there, bewildered at the sight of everyone in one location.
“Lady Theo!” Thor exclaimed, standing to greet her. “Welcome to your first family night!”
Wait - did he just say family night?
Theo could practically hear the world screech to a halt as everyone fell silent, gaping at the new addition. Her heart stuttered in her chest as she froze in place, a veritable deer in the headlights.
“Brother—“ Loki hissed, rolling his eyes as he elbowed his brother. “Do not overwhelm her.”
“Uh… hi?” Theo cringed at how pathetic she sounded. “Sorry, didn’t mean to disrupt.”
“No apologies necessary - come, take a seat.“ Loki offered Theo a reassuring smile as he gestured for her to sit next to him.
“Watch out, the prince is rescuing Rapunzel.” Tony teased, a smirk on his face as he raised a glass to her.
“Watch out everyone, Stark is jealous that a woman is not racing to offer herself up to him,” Loki retorted, sarcasm dripping from his voice.
Raucous laughter came from Loki’s response; even Theo giggled as she sank into the cushions beside him. Loki, in turn, flashed a smirk and winked at her, before effortlessly folding Theo into the Asgardians’ conversation. Without needing to ask, Scott brought Theo an old fashioned, which caused a rush of gratitude to flood Theo’s veins.
The alcohol wouldn’t have much of an effect on her, but having something to occupy her hands with was always appreciated.
Likewise, the others returned to their conversations. Over time, topics shifted and incorporated other people, slowly snowballing as everyone tuned into the larger discussions.
At one natural lull in conversation, Loki went to refill his drink, leaving a vacant spot beside Theo in the process. He barely made it behind the bar when, with a whoop, Shuri leapt over the sectional and claimed the seat as her own. “Ha ha!” Shuri’s face was smug as she shimmied into the cushion, crossing one leg over the other as she stretched her arms along the back of the seat. “This will make a lovely throne.”
Despite the stutter of her heart from Shuri startling her, Theo couldn’t help but laugh when she caught T’Challa rolling his eyes at his sister.
“Excuse me, that was my seat!” Loki scowled, gesturing wildly to where he previously sat.
“Not anymore.” Shuri stuck her tongue out at him. “Besides, you speak to Theo all the time. It’s my turn.”
The latter part of Shuri’s comment nearly made Theo choke on her drink - up until that point, hardly any attention was paid to Theo’s presence. Was that about to change?
“You are lucky I like you, princess,” Loki rolled his eyes, but let out a breathless laugh and shook his head. “Or else I might banish you to an alternate realm.” His threat lacked any teeth; if anything, it came off as a joke. He offered Theo a reassuring glance and the slightest nod, as if encouraging Theo to trust that Shuri wouldn’t make it weird.
Theo masked her nerves with a sip of her cocktail, allowing the notes of smoke and citrus to coat her tongue.
If Shuri noticed the interaction, she didn’t say anything. Instead, she struck up a conversation about a funny tiktok trend that made her think of Theo, eventually morphing into a conversation about medical technology.
Seat stealing, however, was only the prelude to a series of hijinks during the evening.
It started innocently enough. A few drinks into the evening, Tony entertained the team with one of his tales about inventions gone wrong - this time, DUM-E had sprayed a visiting SHIELD agent with a fire extinguisher instead of the computer that actually caught on fire.
While he rambled, Wanda glanced over and made eye contact with Theo. Wanda rolled her eyes before mouthing, “Want to see something fun?”
Theo nodded, curious to see what Wanda was going to do.
A moment later, Tony reached forward to grab his drink and take a sip of it, only to stick his hand through the glass…
Where a nearly empty cocktail previously sat was nothing more than an illusion.
Theo’s eyes darted to Wanda, who stood behind Tony sipping his drink. Theo had to bite back a laugh as Wanda grimaced and shook her head, not a fan of whatever Tony had in his lowball.
“What the hell happened to my drink?” Tony whipped around, looking to see if someone had hidden it. His eyes settled on Loki, who glanced around at the others as he held his own drink, casually taking a swig. Either Loki hadn’t noticed, or he was really good at keeping a straight face.
“Reindeer games, I swear to god-”
“I thought we’d moved past such childish accusations.” Loki cocked an eyebrow at him, unamused.
“He didn’t move, Stark. Chill.” Bucky defended the Asgardian prince.
“Well someone took it, and it wasn’t Captain Stick-in-the-Mud.” Tony retorted, looking around the group. The glass vanished from Wanda’s hand before Tony could see it, presumably returning to the table where it started.
“Okay guys, this isn’t funny,” Tony whined, completely oblivious to his beverage’s return to the table.
To her left, Theo caught Loki taking a large drink of whatever was in his cup to stifle a laugh – he knew exactly what Wanda was up to.
Just then, Tony turned back around to discover his drink in its original location. He groaned, slouching back in his seat. “Anyone who wants to turn in their cape for stand-up comedy, just let me know.”
As he returned to his story, Wanda winked at Theo before sending her a text message– “So we have a game during family time...”
Theo stared at the screen for a moment before typing out a reply. “Which is…?”
Wanda’s face lit up as she read the message; a playful smile pulled across her lips as she typed out a reply. “How many pranks can we pull off before one of us starts laughing.”
Suddenly, a message from Loki popped up as well. “The only rule is that no one should be harmed. Otherwise, it’s fair game.”
Oh. Apparently Loki was playing along too.
Another message from Wanda came in: “You want in?”
Tempting, but with her reputation…
“Sounds fun, but not sure…” Theo responded, “I don’t know that the others trust me. Pranking them might make it worse.”
“If anything, they’ll believe I am the perpetrator,” Loki assured her via text message. “My affiliation with mischief and trickery lends itself to suspicion.”
Not only did Loki speak like he just read a thesaurus, but he even texted like it.
Theo stared at the screen for a moment, weighing her options. On one hand, she could stand to loosen up a little and have some fun. On the other hand, pranking someone could go over like a lead balloon if the prank didn’t land well; she needed to be confident that whoever she pranked would not be upset if she partook.
By then, Sam launched into a story about his last trip to see his sister and nephews in Louisiana. Bucky had tagged along, in part because the point of the trip was to fix up the Wilsons’ boat, and Sam knew he’d need an extra set of hands. A pigeon waddled about on the roof, only a few feet from where Sam sat. Sam, however, was oblivious to the bird’s presence; he was too busy mimicking how Bucky stole Sam’s tools to fix a leaky valve instead of simply using his vibranium arm.
After over a month of listening to Julie pine endlessly over Sam and his down to earth personality, ass of a national treasure, and good-natured sense of humor, Theo swore she knew more about Sam than she knew about her own cousin…
An idea sprung to Theo’s mind. She set her glass on the table, casually lowered her hands out of sight, and whispered an incantation.
“How do you know vibranium would hold up to the steam?” The pigeon asked, cocking its head to the side as it waited for an answer.
Sam nearly leapt out of his seat as his eyes bugged out of his head.
“Wait a minute, wait just a minute – please tell me you all just heard that.” Sam stared at the others as they all gawked at the pigeon. Theo, however, snatched her glass and took a sip of her old fashioned so she didn’t give herself away. “Did that bird just talk?”
“Falcon, I did not realize that your skill set included speaking to birds.” Loki answered without missing a beat.
Theo nearly spit out her drink as she fought the urge to burst into laughter.
“Hey, just because I’m called Falcon doesn’t mean I like birds.” Sam argued, a twinkle in his eye as he settled back into his chair. He must have known there was some magic at play; if Theo was lucky, he would not know whose magic created the illusion.
“I want some of whatever he’s drinking,” Theo pointed at Sam, pretending to be oblivious about the use of magic so she did not draw suspicion. “Because that must be some good shit.”
“No,” Tony replied, “The good shit is the Asgardian stuff.”
“That stuff will knock you on your ass unless you’re a god,” Sam agreed with a toothy grin and a nod. “Even the super soldiers get drunk on it.”
“Tony, I’m assuming you tried it?” Sharon asked, narrowing her eyes at the billionaire.
“Of course I did,” he scoffed, putting a hand on his chest, “I am a connoisseur - had to see if the hype was true.”
“Until you had the hangover from hell the next day.” Natasha pointed out, a smirk dancing on her lips while she crossed her arms.
“Please,” Tony retorted, “It barely holds a candle to the frat party from hell-”
“-in your second year at MIT.” Rhodes, Sam, and Steve answered simultaneously, all rolling their eyes.
Tony must have told that particular story a time or twenty before.
“Lady Theo,” Thor called from behind the bar. “I’m about to refill my beverage. Would you like to try some Asgardian ale?”
Theo glanced over at Loki and raised her eyebrows at him, hoping he’d give her some sort of subtle cue about whether it was a good idea; he just smirked at her and winked.
Not helpful at all.
Then again, the night had gone well up to that point…
“Sure, why not?” Theo replied with a short shrug of her shoulders. She assumed that he’d take a shot glass from the bar and put a little ale in the glass - it may fuck up a normal person, but that was probably only when consumed in large quantities. A small amount of the ale wouldn’t hurt, right?
What she didn’t expect was Thor to bring over a massive mug of ale, filled to the brim.
“That’s alcohol poisoning about to happen,” Yelena cracked up as she saw the size of the mug.
Nearby, the Valkyrie cackled. “Thor, remember that Midgardians can’t handle booze like you can.”
“My liver hurts just looking at that.” Bruce commented, letting out a nervous chuckle but shaking his head.
Well, whether she wanted to share or not, the Avengers were going to learn something new about Theo.
“Oh, that’s what healing magic is for. Healing your liver after alcohol damage.” Theo quipped, earning a surprised snort out of Tony. A surge of confidence rushed through her as she winked, glanced at the deep red, clear liquid, then took a drink.
Given the ale’s reputation, Theo expected it to taste like everclear - practically straight ethanol that burned when consumed. However, a delightful, complex blend of flavors - citrus, juniper, and caramel - coated her mouth. Only a hint of hoppy bitterness accompanied, but each flavor in the unlikely combination balanced the others surprisingly well.
Theo smiled and gave Thor a nod of approval. “That’s better than I expected,” she admitted before she took another drink. “I was expecting something that burned my mouth from the alcohol content, but this is downright pleasant.”
“I bet you twenty bucks you can’t finish that.” Bucky challenged, a smirk spread across his features as he leaned back into his seat.
Bucky had no idea what he was getting himself into.
“The bet is just that I can’t finish it? That’s boring. Of course I’m going to finish it.” She scoffed, rolling her eyes. Sitting up a bit taller, she puffed her chest out in defiance and drank a large swig of ale.
“The real bet would be if she doesn’t throw it up afterwards – just because it goes into her system doesn’t mean she won’t get sick from it.” Steve pointed out, “Not that I think this is a good idea, mind you.”
Remarks like that were probably how Steve earned the nickname of “Captain Stick-in-the-Mud.”
Theo whipped out her wallet, throwing a $20 bill down on the table. “Game on. $20 bet that I can drink this and keep it all down.”
Bucky reached across to shake Theo’s hand before putting in his own $20 bill.
Shuri and Yelena whooped in support, pumping their fists in the air. Bruce sighed as he shook his head and rubbed his temples. Steve rolled his eyes, while Clint smirked and shot Scott a look of well, this should get interesting. Peter’s eyes widened, despite furrowing his brow - he looked like he was worried.
What a sweet, sweet summer child.
Theo took another sip of the ale, then spoke up. “We need some tunes playing. It’s too quiet up here.”
“Oh! I have some new music we can listen to!” Wanda jumped at the opportunity to hook her phone up to the wireless speakers. “It’s a local band that Vision and I saw last week. Theo, I think you’d like them – they sounded kind of like the music your band played.”
It was hard to imagine Vision at a concert, standing there with relatively stiff posture as other people were grooving to the music… He must have really liked Wanda to let her bring him to concerts. Did he like the same music as her?
Did he even like music?
Did androids have likes and dislikes? Or feelings? How did that work?
That was a rabbit hole to go down another day.
What sounded like some generic indie-pop music started to float through the air, but it was pleasant enough to be good background music.
Loki sent another message – this time solely to Theo. “Are you truly planning to drink the entire mug?” Theo looked up at him, his eyebrow cocked up with skepticism and his chin dipped as he made eye contact.
“Maybe I am.” Theo replied, smiling at him and winking as his phone buzzed.
Asgard wasn’t the only realm with particularly strong alcohol, and despite Theo’s small size she was no lightweight.
The group resumed their casual chatter. Wanda, Theo, and Loki continued to cast illusions and mess with the team in subtle ways, oftentimes struggling to maintain a poker face as the rest of the team grew drunker and drunker, and as a result became much easier to mess with.
Eventually, Thor regaled the team with one of his latest adventures off-planet, voice booming as he gestured grandly about some battle he fought in. As the story started to near its climax, Theo caught the way Loki’s hand moved quietly to his side and twitched as he cast a spell.
Theo’s eyes darted around as she tried to figure out what changed – it wasn’t until she looked up at Thor that she found her answer:
Loki transformed Thor’s mug so it was shaped like a giant penis… while Thor drank out of it.
Wanda, who stood beyond Thor’s line of sight, lost it, face beet red and shoulders bouncing as she doubled over in silent laughter.
From what Loki previously shared, Thor reveled in sharing stories where he prevailed as the savior of the day. With that in mind, the choice to make Thor look absolutely ridiculous as he drunkenly extolled his heroism seemed like it was as much a jab at his self-importance as it was just plain old hilarious. Theo hadn’t taken Loki to be one for juvenile humor, but she had to hand it to him – it was well-played.
Even better, Thor didn’t even notice the change – he set the mug down on the table as he continued his story, and later on picked it up to take a swig to wet his throat.
It didn’t take long before the others started to notice the mug’s new shape. The Valkyrie looked like she about to keel over; her shoulders shook so hard from silent laughter that if Thor turned around he’d know something was off. Natasha had to bite her finger to stop herself from breaking into laughter. Steve and Peter shared wide-eye, startled expressions, leaning away from Thor… who still hadn’t noticed.
The more time that passed without Thor noticing, the funnier the spectacle became.
Finally, Sam finally couldn’t take it anymore.
“Wow Thor, you’re really swallowing that ale like a champ.”
Tony choked, then spat out his drink while the people around him recoiled from the spray. Steve turned downright crimson with secondhand embarrassment, hiding his face behind his hands.
“Yeah, you’re really gripping the shaft of the mug like it’s your job.” Bucky added, trying and failing to keep a straight face as Thor looked over at Tony and Steve, confused.
Theo’s eyes watered from trying not to laugh, and her jaw hurt from the muscle tension involved with maintaining her poker face.
“Dammit, I’m biting my tongue so hard to stop from laughing that it’s bleeding.” Wanda’s message popped up in the group chat, while Loki still effortlessly maintained a completely straight poker face and relaxed posture.
“I thought you were a bit too high-brow for a good dick joke…” Theo added, fingers tapping the screen furiously as she replied.
“I know not of what you speak,” Loki answered innocently; he glanced over at Theo and winked, then followed his message with an eggplant emoji.
Wanda nearly spit out her drink when she got that message.
Thor finally put two-and-two together as he looked down at his mug, then glared at his brother; however, he was laughing despite the glare, giant shoulders bouncing up and down. “Why must you taunt me so?”
“I hold no responsibility for this madness!” Loki protested, though the sparkle in his eyes told Theo that Loki knew he wasn’t going to convince them otherwise. “God of mischief I may be, but I’m hardly the only capable sorcerer on this team.”
“Well Theo’s been too busy downing some Asgardian ale,” Bucky commented, “And Wanda… Wait a minute. Wanda?”
They all turned to look at Wanda, who gave a deer-in-the-headlights expression as she pretended to be horrified. “The fact that you could imagine me doing this is mildly offensive,” she exclaimed, silently glaring at Loki. “Besides, Strange can cast spells too.”
Everyone looked over at Dr. Strange; one unamused eyebrow raise was enough to dispel any thoughts that he’d been the one behind it.
“Let’s be real – Reindeer games would be the one to make that joke.” Tony pointed out, “Which… well played, I’ve gotta say. Not much makes me spit out my drink like that.”
Loki smirked, shaking his head and rolling his eyes. “You need to raise your standards, Stark.”
Steve, who was still mostly sober and desperate for a change of topic, looked back at Theo and noticed her nearly empty mug. “Wow, you weren’t kidding about finishing the ale.”
In turn, Theo downed the remaining ale and placed the mug on the table. “Yeah – It was good. But I’ve gotta say, for all the talk about how it will get me drunk, I still feel pretty sober. Are you sure you weren’t messing with me? This isn’t some fraternity-style hazing thing to bring a new team member on board?”
“No, my lady,” Thor confirmed, “That was genuine Asgardian ale. I must say, I’m impressed.”
Theo cast a glance over to Loki before sending a text. “You didn’t mess with this, did you?”
“I would never deny someone the opportunity to get drunk.” Loki looked dead serious as he sent the message, so she took his word for it.
“Well shit,” Bucky replied, his words slurring ever-so-slightly from his own alcohol consumption. “How about double or nothing – we each drink a mug of ale, and whoever is more sober at the end of the night gets $40.”
Steve tried to cut in. “Bucky, no –“
Bucky, yes.
“Deal.” Theo shook his hand again, confident that she was about to become $40 richer. Not only was Bucky already more drunk than her, but the Asgardian ale would only exacerbate the difference in their sobriety levels.
He probably wouldn’t end up with alcohol poisoning, so it’d be fine. Maybe a hangover, but not alcohol poisoning.
“Now here’s the thing -” Bucky began, “- Before your mug can be refilled, you have to do the Asgardian call for another drink.”
“Which is…?” Theo arched a wary eyebrow, unsure if she wanted to know the answer.
With perfect timing, Thor finished his beverage and demonstrated by throwing his mug down on the ground, shouting “ANOTHER!” as the glass smashed against the concrete and shattered into a million pieces.
Theo gasped and nearly flew out of her seat from the noise, heart pounding in her chest. She looked at the glistening fragments of glass, then up at Thor, then back down at the glass.
.
Thor failed to stifle his laughter as Loki rolled his eyes in the background; with a flick of his wrist, the shards of glass vanished in a flash of emerald light.
“Yeah that’s going to be a hard pass from me, dude.” Theo shook her head, stood up and walked over to the bar to refill mug. While she was behind the bar, she also pulled out a fresh mug for Bucky.
“Oh no, you don’t get to pour – we need someone neutral to do it, so we know it hasn’t been messed with!” Bucky called out, shaking his head at her as he moved to join her at the bar.
“Well I can certainly be the judge of that.” Loki volunteered, his voice a cool contrast to the rambunctious shouting and cheering that echoed from the rooftop.
“You’re really letting loose tonight,” Loki’s message appeared on Theo’s phone. “It’s nice to see you relax a bit.” Theo blushed and cracked a sheepish smile.
Loki strolled behind the bar, took both mugs and filled them up. Once satisfied that each mug contained the same amount of ale, he handed one mug to Bucky and the other to Theo. He then filled a mug of his own before returning to the rest of the group.
“As the judge, I reserve all right to document any embarrassing moments for blackmail in the future.” Loki told everyone quite seriously.  Shuri cracked up and added that if Loki didn’t capture the evidence, she certainly would, and with how the Princess of Wakanda held her phone at the ready, Theo fully believed her.. Theo returned to her seat, noticing Shuri had saved her place; Bucky trailed close behind.
“You say that like I’m going to do something embarrassing.” Theo teased, holding her mug up to Bucky and Loki as if to suggest a toast. “To Bucky making one of the dumbest bets he’ll ever make.”
“To the new girl finally gracing us with her presence,” Bucky replied with a wide grin, “and not realizing she’s about to lose the bet!”
The rest of the group held up their glasses and clinked them together, after which Bucky managed to drain about a quarter of his mug in one swift drink.
“I didn’t realize this was a chugging contest.” Bruce commented with a nervous laugh as Bucky set his mug down.
Theo, recognizing that rapid alcohol consumption would not help Bucky in the bet, snickered. “You can’t enjoy it if you chug it, you know that right?”
Bucky offered a coy grin in response, his cheeks flushed pink from the alcohol in his veins.
He really had no idea what he was in for.
And I feel alright (Feel alright) Yeah I feel alright, Alright… I let go This is something spiritual When I say so Give me life, give me love Leveled up on a higher dose No sorrow (baby this is chemical) Hit just like an antidote (can’t come down, down) Adios (give me, yeah give me) Give me life, give me love  Leveled up on a higher dose
This was certainly a different side to Theo than Loki had ever seen.
Her guard wasn’t up in the same way it was at Stark’s party, nor was she silent and reserved, as if it were a mission briefing or meeting. The relaxed, easygoing demeanor that Loki eventually uncovered after multiple interactions made its debut amongst the others, and for the first time since the infamous briefing, it seemed like Theo wasn’t afraid to be the center of attention.
In truth, Theo’s decision to join in the evening’s activities surprised Loki. Though Theo agreed to stop declining the invitations from Maximoff, Loki had expected that this would not be the occasion which Theo relented, as the large group could be rather intimidating. Instead, he anticipated that Theo would wait until she could verify that it would be a small gathering with ample opportunities to depart, should she grow uncomfortable.
Instead, the sight of Theo trailing behind Maximoff as they crossed the rooftop brought the first of many pleasant surprises in the evening. If the expression Theo wore when Thor addressed her provided any indication, Theo had not anticipated such a robust gathering, and for a moment Loki feared she might teleport away from the immense attention suddenly focused on her.
Luckily, that had not been the case. From time to time, Loki caught Theo glancing towards him with a silent question in her eyes, usually as if trying to assess the situation, but as the evening wore on the questioning glances decreased, replaced by smirks and thinly veiled attempts to refrain from laughing at the others.
Perhaps the greatest surprise in the evening came when Theo agreed to not only try some Asgardian ale, but challenge Barnes to what one might consider a drinking contest with the aforementioned ale. Given Barnes held two significant advantages - his substantially larger size and the physiological changes from the super-soldier serum - the odds seemed stacked against the sorceress. If anything, Loki suspected that hubris fueled Theo’s decision.
However, he was far too curious about the outcome to consider intervening unless things turned sour, and up to that point he saw no cause for concern. Theo seemed fine, continuing to engage in conversation while working through her beverage. Occasionally, Loki caught himself staring at Theo’s petite hands, her dainty fingers wrapped around the massive mug of ale. If he could be honest with himself, The juxtaposition was rather adorable.
Barnes, unsurprisingly, was the first to finish his ale. Theo, however, was not far behind.
“I have a proposition.” Banner spoke up, looking between the empty mugs with a twinkle in his eye. “I think we should give these two a field sobriety test and see who is more sober… For science, of course.”
Loki, unfamiliar with the test Banner mentioned, hesitated. “And what exactly does a Midgardian sobriety test entail?”
“Oh, it’s easy.” Theo assured him, standing up and stretching both arms overhead. “You just answer some questions and do some basic tasks, like walking in a straight line and balancing on one foot for a while.”
Loki studied Theo with some doubt; when she didn’t notice, he messaged her. “Are you certain it will be so simple?”
Theo typed and sent her reply without even looking at her mobile’s screen. “Bucky’s about to get destroyed.”
Barnes swayed the moment he stood up, nearly tripping over his own feet as he made his way towards the area where they set up the test. He hadn’t even walked half of the line marked out before it became clear as crystal that Barnes was utterly toasted.
Theo, meanwhile, seemed only lightly buzzed. She easily completed the straight line test… while walking on her hands.
“A woman after my own heart,” Romanoff laughed, clapping as Theo finished the test. “It’s not often we have team members who are able to move like that.”
“Girl, you’ve gotta teach me how to do that,” Shuri exclaimed, “That’s dope as hell!”
Theo gracefully returned to her feet, pausing for just a moment to adjust her clothes before she feigned a curtsy and smirked at Barnes, who simply groaned from where he sat.
From what little Loki knew of Theo’s background, the ability to walk on her hands came as no surprise - she had formal training in acrobatic maneuvers, and her goaltending demonstration highlighted her agility. Yet, she did not seem like the sort who would walk on her hands for fun… Though from what he had seen, she certainly was the sort of person who would do so to prove a point. Quite frankly, It was the kind of thing that Loki might do if he were in her position.
All things considered, it seemed like Theo might share Loki’s penchant for mischief and trickery.
“Normally gods are the only ones who don't get knocked on their ass by Asgardian ale.” Stark commented, brow furrowed and eyes narrow as he studied Theo.
“Asgard isn’t the only place with abnormally strong liquor,” Theo casually explained, shaking out her shoulders and stretching her neck. “There really are some places with nothing better to do than drown your sorrows!”
Loki couldn’t help but laugh at her comment, though the choice of words piqued his curiosity. Of course there was the realm she refused to speak of, yet it sounded as if Theo referred to more than one location. Had she visited other realms as well?
Surely, she was exaggerating.
“You’re talking about Michigan, right?” Stark teased.
“No, I’m talking about spending time with you.” Theo deadpanned, winning a lively round of jeers and laughter of the group.
Not done showing off, Theo proceeded to balance on one foot for five minutes while casually discussing the merits of different types of alcohol that she’d encountered and how the Midgardian body metabolized alcohol, far longer than the 30 seconds that were required for a field sobriety test (at least, according to Doctor Banner). Gesturing vivaciously as she spoke, Theo’s eyes lit up with amusement as the others laughed along with her commentary.
As someone who was an expert at embellishing stories, Loki could tell when Theo added flourishes or exaggerated details. However, any talented storyteller understood that the best tales required a bit of panache, and Theo was no exception. While the others may not have noticed, to Loki, it was painfully obvious that Theo knew she was putting on a show.
“Okay, I think at this point there’s a pretty clear winner.” Rhodes snickered as Barnes laid down on a sofa, complaining about the way the world spun..
Theo happily took the $40 that Barnes previously threw down on the table, smirking as she dramatically tucked it into her wallet.
“Is anyone hungry? I could go for some pizza right about now.” Maximoff asked, looking around at the others.
“FRI, you heard the lady!” Stark lifted his head as he spoke up to no one in particular. “Well… I was actually thinking we could go out for pizza?” Maximoff suggested, shrugging her shoulders as she pointed behind herself towards the elevator.
Frankly, after such lively conversation and company, Loki was nowhere near ready to turn in for the night… Even if “going out” was not his preferred activity, perhaps it was worth accompanying the others on their venture.
“As much as I’d love to, I should probably make sure Bucky gets to bed in one piece.” Rogers replied, his point amplified by Barnes’ unintelligible grumbles.
“Yeah, it’s getting late –” Banner glanced at his watch before he stood up. “I’m ready to call it a night.”
“I’d join you.” Loki nodded at Maximoff, lightly shrugging his shoulders.
“Pizza sounds like fun.” Belova pushed herself up from her seat. “I’d go.”
“I’m down!” Shuri added, stretching as she rose to her feed.
Theo had yet to respond, eyes darting between the others as they responded. She didn’t seem tired, but experience indicated she would not opt-in unless clearly invited to attend
“The night is young – why not enjoy some excellent company for a little longer?” Turning to Theo, Loki offered a wry smile as he offered a hand to help her up. “Would you care to join? I suspect Maximoff would even let you select the pizza place…” He shot a knowing glance to Maximoff, who grinned and nodded.
“Sure, I suppose I can come along.” Theo perked up, mirroring Loki’s smile as she accepted the gesture, and allowed Loki to pull her to her feet. “I’m not sure what my options are for pizza around here, so I would defer to someone else to choose.”
Loki felt a bit of heat creep up on his cheeks - he ought to have remembered that Theo only recently became a resident of Midtown, so her knowledge of local eateries would be limited at best.
“Oh, there’s lots of great options nearby!” Parker exclaimed, bouncing up from his seat. “My favorite is–”
“She didn’t tell you to pick a place,” Shuri held a hand out to stop him as she smirked.
Parker replied with a pout, crossing his arms to make a point.
“If you tell me what place you want to go to, I’ll suggest it,” Theo winked at the spiderling.
“That’s not how this works!” Shuri protested, turning to Theo and covering her heart with mock offense.
“Okay, okay,” Theo held up her hands, laughing as she shook her head. “Wanda, pick a place since you wanted pizza and I have no idea what’s good around here.”
“I can do that - Vis, you coming?” Maximoff beamed at Vision, reaching for his hand.
“I shall accompany you.”
And off they went, in search of pizza.

If anyone had asked Theo that morning how she expected her evening to go, drinking a supersoldier under the table and then going out for pizza at one in the morning with some of the Avengers would not have come to mind. Yet, in another edition of “my life is stranger than fiction,” that was exactly how Theo’s night played out.
The pizza place Wanda recommended was fairly close to Avengers tower - down an alleyway and through a side door, the restaurant sat tucked in the basement of a bar that Theo recognized because she played a couple shows there a while ago..
When they first walked in, the atmosphere practically screamed “hole in the wall.” The lights were kept low - low enough that it was easy to hide the dirt permanently coated on the floors. The smell of cheese and cheap beer lingered in the air. Even at the late hour, the place was packed. Perhaps the low light was to their advantage - no one seemed to notice the group of superheroes as they made their entrance, which was a relief. It took Theo back to the midnight hours in Durham. Her friends drunkenly crowded into booths for food after spending the night getting guys to buy out the bar for them. Theo had to play along in those days in order to hide her magic and its effects on her body - however, the lack of drunkenness meant she was still able to recall the exact way the place felt. And this… this felt all too familiar.
When they found an empty booth, they wasted no time claiming it as their own, even if it meant they had to squish together so everyone fit. With the way they packed themselves together, Theo couldn’t help but notice Loki’s body against hers, steady and firm without encroaching on her personal space. Loki may have been her first friend among the Avengers, but that didn’t mean they were ever quite so close. From Theo’s observations, Loki seemed like he avoided physical contact whenever possible, recoiling from Thor’s touch and carefully distancing himself when anyone else drew near. Really, Theo couldn’t remember ever having made any physical contact with him that wasn’t an accidental brush of the hands when they handed items to each other.
Despite feeling a bit thrown off by the touch, she wasn’t uncomfortable… If anything, it was actually kind of nice.
Not that she was going to say anything, because that would absolutely make it weird.
The effortless, lighthearted conversation that started on the rooftop continued the moment they sat down, even as everyone made quick work of the first round of drinks and the pizza, continuing to the extent that it wasn’t long before they ordered another round of drinks.
After the waitress delivered the second round of drinks, Wanda swallowed the bite of pizza she had been chewing, then spoke up.
“Thank you.” Wanda paused, considering her words. “For coming out tonight, that is. This has been fun.” She beamed at Theo. “I’m glad you have a sense of humor. The pigeon was well played.”
Theo blushed, biting back a smile. “Thanks for letting me in on the fun… though I have to say, I think Loki took the trophy home for best prank of the night.”
This time Loki didn’t try to deny it, grinning with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. “It is important to remind my brother to stay humble… ‘Tis best to not allow his ego to overtake him. Do you agree?”
Theo let out a laugh, just barely tinged with melancholy as she thought about her sister. “That is part of a sibling’s job description, isn’t it?”
“Am I remembering correctly that you have a sister?” Vision asked Theo. “I recall mention of a sibling in your file, though you’ve not spoken much on the matter.”
Theo flinched, though the motion was barely perceptible. Loki’s eyes flickered over at her - he must have still noticed.
“I do… but she’s presumed dead, like my parents. We got separated when we ended up in the other realm” Theo shrugged as nonchalantly as she could manage, but the way the expressions in the group softened told her that they picked up on her discomfort around the topic. “My Mémère – err, my Grandma – raised me after that, and she raised my younger cousin, Max; he’s practically my younger brother.”
“There’s no reason to be nervous; family is a complicated subject for pretty much everyone on the team.” Wanda assured her.
Theo flashed a thin, yet grateful smile. “Yeah, I gathered that was practically a prerequisite for joining the Avengers.”
Loki snorted at her comment.
Wanda took the opportunity to change the topic, launching into the recap of the last band that she saw in this particular place. Apparently this was one of her favorite spots to go when she wanted to blend in and have some fun, especially since the poor lighting made it hard to be recognized.
As Wanda spoke, Theo noticed a young couple making out next to a jukebox and couldn’t help but smile at the sight – they may have assumed that the poor lighting obscured them from view, but their affection was sweet. Another wave of nostalgia from her days in Durham washed over Theo.
It occurred to her that everyone in the booth had lived vastly different lives from her own: a literal princess sat next to a kid who grew up in Queens; an orphan sat next to an android, who sat across from a frost giant/literal god, and on Theo’s opposite side was someone who trained to be a spy since before she could walk. However, Theo didn’t feel like a fish out of water. On the contrary, she actually felt like she belonged there, sitting in this cramped booth with six other people who knew what it was like to be different. And the best part was, she didn’t even have to hide what made her unique.
Her heart warmed at the thought.
By the time they finally left the pizza place, it was nearing three in the morning – the sun would rise in a few hours, however Theo was still wide awake. Wanda must have sensed that Theo was still ready for an adventure because she paused outside, looking in the direction opposite the tower.
“So where are we going now?” Theo inquired, looking between the others.
“Given you have a high alcohol tolerance, I think we should do some bar hopping,” Wanda offered, “This is New York, after all, the city that never sleeps. We might as well make it a proper night out!”
“The princess is out of her tower and there are some fine establishments nearby.” Loki added, a smug expression curling over his lips as he crossed his arms. Shuri cracked up, entirely aware that Loki was referring to Theo and not to her.
“I don’t know why you’re calling me a princess when we have a literal princess with us.” Theo offered a playful scoff in response to his joke, pointing at Shuri.
“The literal princess had a great time, but she’s gotta go back to Oakland tomorrow.” Shuri smirked and took a bow. “So I’ve gotta call it a night.”
“Yeah, I have a biology exam I need to study for tomorrow, so I should get some sleep.” Peter agreed.
“I head out for a mission bright and early,” Yelena sighed, “So I should probably go too.”
“They may be ditching us, but I’m down to go check out the bars,” Theo offered. “But I hope you don’t make the same mistake Bucky did - that might not go as well, since you aren’t a super soldier.”
Wanda laughed freely, her eyes crinkling at the corners. “Oh no, I’m not about to try and match you drink for drink. Consider this our way of giving you a tour of the neighborhood!”
Vision, of course, was also fine with bar hopping; as long as Wanda was there it seemed like he would be happy.
After bidding goodnight to Shuri, Peter, and Yelena, the remaining four Avengers departed for the first bar. The cover of night provided protection from the stares that Theo expected to get walking down the street, though it was likely helped by the decrease in people out and about at the odd hour.
The quartet moved between local bars seamlessly. The sight of the Avengers didn’t draw the looks Theo would have expected most celebrities to draw - the other three, apparently, were regulars. They chatted with other customers and joked around with the bartenders, always making a point to casually slip an introduction to Theo in the mix without making it awkward. More often than not, the other customers would buy a round of drinks for the group as a way of welcoming Theo to the team, and before Theo could respond either Loki or Wanda would accept on her behalf.
If Theo didn’t know better, Loki and Wanda were on a mission to see just how much alcohol it took to get Theo drunk; frankly, as long as Theo wasn’t the one footing the bill, she didn’t mind the opportunity to loosen up a bit.
As the sun crept over the horizon, Theo felt the warm buzz that came with mild inebriation, having consumed enough alcohol to finally overcome her obnoxious tolerance.
Loki had a slight flush to his cheeks and a hint of glassiness in his eyes – there was no way that he could become intoxicated from what a human would drink alone, but between the Asgardian ale he consumed earlier and the other drinks, he seemed more relaxed than usual. Up until that point, Theo noticed that even when relaxed, Loki always had this air of being immensely composed, but that night it seemed like he let some of that properness fall away and let his guard drop ever-so-slightly.
In contrast, Wanda was comfortably drunk, allowing herself to hiccup and giggle freely while slurring some of her words. Not messy drunk by any means, thanks to Loki and Vision switching out some of her drinks for Shirley Temples when Wanda wasn’t looking (given how easily they managed the feat, Theo guessed it wasn’t the first time they had swapped her drinks so she didn’t get sick).
Vision was the only one who was sober, but that had to be a normal occurrence… Not shockingly, it was impossible for an artificial intelligence system to process alcohol. Theo found it odd to watch Vision eat and drink like a normal person, since he didn’t actually digest food and that he didn’t even need to eat to function. The sight was even more jarring when he camouflaged himself to appear like a person and not an android, which he did anytime he ventured into public.
Still, it wasn’t the weirdest thing Theo had ever seen…
With the sun peeking over the horizon, bringing with it the impending arrival of the morning, the group agreed it was time to return to the tower. While there was nothing on their agenda for the day that they had to prepare for, by that time everyone had been awake long enough that they were more than ready for bed. Vision and Wanda led the way, Vision wrapping his arm around Wanda to help her stay steady as she giggled and cooed endlessly at him, utterly lovestruck each time she looked at her partner.
Behind them, Loki and Theo strolled beside each other in comfortable silence. As they moved, Theo discreetly observed Loki. His normally upright, regal posture had softened. His eyes gazed out into the distance, though it didn’t seem like they had a fixed point of interest. He kept his hands in his pockets, and his expression reserved - just the slightest hint of knitted brows adorned his expression.
The man beside her was different from the Loki that Theo first met, or the Loki she saw earlier in the evening – the sharp, charismatic, and sarcastic prince was replaced by a much quieter, introspective man. Even with the faint warmth of the alcohol in Theo’s system, she could sense storms swirling in his mind that were locked away from public view. She couldn’t help but wonder how often he allowed that side of him to show.
When they arrived at the tower and made their way up to the residential floors, Theo couldn’t help but notice the way that Loki held the elevator door for her, and how he placed his hand on the small of her back as she passed by. It must have been the way that Loki was raised that made him do those things - as a prince, he must have been taught these types of gestures as a part of proper etiquette - but the feeling of his touch lingered long after his hand left her back.
No one else was around, which meant that it was either too early for the others to be up, or those who were already awake were off doing something else. Those moments of stillness were rare in the tower, and after a long but fun night out, Theo was grateful for the peace and quiet. Up ahead, Wanda giggled and squealed as Vision patiently coaxed her towards their suite. It didn’t take long for them to disappear behind the door, leaving Loki and Theo to themselves. The pair’s comfortable silence continued as they made their way down the hall, pausing outside the door to Theo’s suite.
“This was a lot of fun,” Theo commented to Loki, a shy smile on her lips as she took hold of the door handle, but refrained from opening the door.
“Indeed,” he nodded, sticking his hands back in his pockets and shifting his weight back onto his heels as he gave her a nervous smile. “I’m glad you’ve come out of your shell a bit more – it is nice to spend time with you.”
They both stood there, biting back smiles as they looked into each other’s eyes. In the peace of the tower and the sun rising, there was almost a special sort of peace that fell between them - a moment frozen in time.
Eventually though, that moment had to end.
Theo cleared her throat, a rising heat now present on her cheeks. “Well, I should probably…” Theo trailed off, gesturing that she was going to head inside. “Uh, good night Loki.”
“Right,” Loki blushed, looking away as he dipped his head. “Good night Theo.”
Theo found herself reflecting on the night as she got ready for bed. Yes, Loki, the little bastard was right - the Avengers, for all their initial assumptions and hesitations, genuinely did want to be her friend.
And despite every reason why Theo shouldn’t want to, at the end of the day… She wanted to be their friend too.

Secrets in Misery
Summary: you’d thought you’d never betray your husband.
Warnings: torture, near death experience , demon au, brief mention of SA.
Characters: Loki, Thor x reader
A/N: I could have written this better but like…. 🙃
You shivered, depsite the warmth of his tongue as he licked a strip of your exposed skin as your body was sprawled out in front of him and many other demons that surrounded you.
“Have you chosen on speaking yet, little one?” he leaned over, his sharp teeth glinting in the brightness of the room. “I assure you, this silent treatment isn’t going to get us anywhere, my dear.”
“Oh, fuck off!” You grimaced. “You’re a fool if you think I’ll give up his location.”
“So, Thor is alive after all,” the creature gleamed, looking around the room in excitement before his eyes turned back to your own, his stance disgustingly playful. “You know little one, you’re a lot wiser than the other broad I held on this rack.”
You grimaced in pain as you felt the tension of the shackles pulling at your limbs again as he pushed the lever by your foot. “I’d be a fool to give up my husband to you! Go to hell!”
“Perhaps,” he mumbled thoughtfully before leaning on the table once more, leaning down closer to your face. You could smell the rancid of his breath and nearly gagged as he smiled down at you. “But, you’d be alive shall you give me the information that I crave so deeply.”
“What do you want with him? He’s no royal, he’s poor like the rest of my village. What could you possibly want with Thor?”
“He owes me a few souls in debt.” the demon grinned. “And you seemed to have placed an illusionment charm on him. He’s undetectable until you lift the charm. Tell me, would the charm wear off shall you perish under my care?” You swallowed the fear as the man eyed you hungrily, a sharp knife poking your rib cage. “I can tear another piece of flesh from your bones, if that would make you talk.”
“Yes!” you spat out, silently begging for death. “Yes, if I die, the spell wears off and he’s visible to the world once more, yes! Just please let me go.”
“Do you care to live, little one?” He bared his teeth. “It seems naught, since you’re protecting a low life son of a bitch soldier who ran away from his assignment.”
“He’s in the village! In the bookshop!” you swallowed hard as tears came to your eyes. “There’s a crevice by the history book shelf. Place your palm against the panelling and his hideout will reveal itself.”
The man clapped giddily, his men already exiting the place to gather your husband for his death. You see, Thor cared deeply for you, so much so, that he made a deal with a demon to have his own bookshop in the village. He loved learning and reading about any knowledge that ge could get his hands on. Of course, all deals must have some consequences. Thor must pay a hefty price every month until the day he dies; killing innocent beings and sending their souls to hell. He’s missed several months of payment, costing this demon many souls.
You were captured on the street hours ago, being tortured endlessly, sexually absued and hurt emotionally. You couldn’t take the pain any longer. You cried to yourself as the last of the men disappeared from the room, leaving you alone, shackled to the table.

Thor woke, his chest ached and loneliness bit a dark void into his soul, it took a few quick breaths before it subsided and the feeling was gone. On and off again through the years and he wondered… a body moved, shifting closer to him before he extracted himself and carefully slipped out of his bed and moved to the other room, stepping before the basin to wash his face. Relying on the cold bite of water to chase away the lingering ache in his chest.
He stared at his reflection and decided to not think of the foreign feelings, there had been no one to match for him. Sif and he had hoped, but when her mark appeared it had not matched. Being young and full of misguided dreams they had vehemently denied it, they had sworn their love to the other and that none would be able to come between them.
Until… until Sif laid eyes on the matching mark.

I also considered making it an x reader to gain more people’s attension. But that won’t include everyone and I don’t want to make an x reader that you can’t imagine yourself in. Thoughts??)
Pairing: Thor Odinson x Oc
Warnings: Polyamoury, swinging, unicorn couple, smut, pussy eating, fingering, werewolf
Summary: After a hearty battle Thor and Star enjoy each other’s bodies and other.
Word count: 1,6k
Unedited
Tumblr media
"I like her," Star says, watching the hairy girl fight with honour. "Do you, my dear?" Thor questions, his hand resting on Star's hip. They're on a battle field. The both of them cool and calm of course. None of the enemy cause too much of a problem for them. After all, the battle is pretty much over.
This woman that they are watching is merely finishing the last few. Thor's felt the tension between Star and this wolf girl. Her name, Darrow Declan. Of course, to Thor, she is quite the sight to see. With fangs and claws and a thirst for bloodshed.
"Do you want her?" He asks, bending down slightly to whisper in her pointed ear. She grins looking up at him, she places her hand on his broad ches. Star shows him the biggest puppy eyes she can muster, even pushing her bottom lip out in a pout, knowing damn well that there is no way in hell that Thor could ever say no. "Yes please, sir," she uses the dominant name, showing that she has manners and deserves a treat.
Thor's armor grows tight around his crotch by just hearing the word 'sir' fall from her lips. "All right, my princess, go get her," he allows, his heart swells as Star's eyes fill with joy. "Thank you, sir!" Star stands on her tippy toes and gives her lover a very grateful kiss.
When she comes up for air, she runs over to the women talking to some other soldier. Thor's power still pumping through her, electricity follows closely behind her. Without thinking she jumps, expecting Darrow to catch her.
The werewolf does, of course. Hearing her approach with her superhearing. Not to mention, dropping the princess of the Light Elves and the Prince of Asgard's lover would probably be considered treason.
Star grins at the shocked expression on Darrow's face. Her legs wrapped around the bigger girl's waist. Then, she smashes her lips into Darrow's lips. Finally getting to taste those sweet lips that she's been staring at for so long now.
The people that don't personally know the two's jaw hang open. Watching in shock as Thor just lets this happen. Not to mention the vigor and passion of his girlfriend. "How can you just let that happen?" The werewolve's head guard asks, looking up at the mighty god of thunder. "It makes her happy," Thor shrugs, it's true. What ever makes his baby girl happy, he's glad to supply.
"But, how do you know she'll return to you?" The man asks, his jaw still slack. "I don't believe I would let that happen. Plus, I am going to join them," Thor states with a shrug, looking forward to the sight. "Really?" The prince can't help but chuckle at the disbelieve of the man he had just battled with.
"Watch," is all that Thor replies with. He causally approaches the two kissing women. Darrow is still in shock, how could this be happening. Not that she doesn't enjoy it, Star is quite the beauty after all. But, what will her partner say?
"What about his majesty?" She voices her concerns once she's come up for air. Star rolls her eyes, why do they always ask? "You worry far too much." Is all that she answers with, before continuing her passionate kiss. Her hands intertwining in the werewolf women's thick head of hair.
Star can just sense how Thor coming. Though, it is quickly confirmed by the big, warm hand on her lower back. The guard watches as the beautiful Elf girl raises her head by Thor's presences. Only to give him an even more passionate kiss as the werewolf warrior.
Afterwards Thor turns to that same warrior, grabs their chin and raises it. All in order to make the girl quiver with a kiss. "I'll wait in the tent," he winks at the two and then saunters into the royal tent laid out.The guards watches as the Light Elf drops from the werewolf's arms, take her hand and lead her into the before-mentioned tent.
Thor is already taking off his armour. Star can see his cape hang over a chair, throne off as if he was in a rush. Which he was, seeing Star so happy really did things to him, plus the affirming name, there could not be more reason for him to need her so. So when the both of them enter, there is a low rumble of thunder.
Not the kind that strikes fear into people's hearts, or the kind that make you feel alone in a big storm. The kind that light your body on fire with desire. That make you need for another in your bed, to share the adrenaline of the storm with.
Star quickly shoves the werewolf girl down on the bed. Quick to remove their armour, leaving the both of them barebottom naked. The light hue from the sun shining through the material of the tent create a breeze of pink on Star’s shining white wings and smooth pale back.
Thor just can't help himself. His hand lands right on her waist, he presses him bare chest against her back, of course, watching for her wings. His lips follow the curve of her spine with delicate kisses. His beard tickles her smooth skin, causing shivers to run through her body.
"Strip." Star commands to the girl watching the both of them closely, still in awe at her luck. All while Star is flourishing in Thor's gentle touches of worship. Her eyes watching every move of Darrow. Like an eagle making sure their prey doesn't escape or veer from the plan. The girl does as she is told, sitting up and throwing her armour to the side. "By Odin's beard, Thor, is that not a sight to see?" Star mutters pit as Darrow's toned body glimmers with excitement.
He lets out a hearty chuckle, his eyes resting on Darrow's but not his body. His kisses are still smooth against her neck. Thor's hands go from her waist to her bottom and ever so gently on her wings. Still in awe at the magnificent creation that is her body. The majestic wings and tip of her ears. Like nothing he's seen before.
"Two beautiful women? I don't believe there to be a better sight." Is all Thor says, he takes his chin in his hand, guiding her up to look him in the eyes. "Just you and me?" He asks, confirming the agreement they had. That this fling that they have does not go deeper than body. That lust is as far as it goes and that after their escapade it will again just be the two of them.
Star nods, her eyes filled with earnest truth, "Just you and me," Thor's jaw pops and he nods. Taking her lips in his, sharing a deep, passionate and soul connecting kiss to seal their agreement. Immediately after they turn their ravenous attention to Darrow. Star crawls onto the bed, where Darrow usually the predator is, now she is prey.  Thor watches intently as Star kissing all around the other girl's body.
From this angle, Thor can see Star is dripping and ready to fuck or be fucked in any sort of way. Her juices even slick down her thigh, “You look amazing, my dear,” Thor mutters, watching as she grins mid kiss. He begins pumping his girth, his member standing tall begging for any touch.
Star sucks on Darrow’s erect nipple, her left hand pinching the other. While the right is roaming wherever she can. From the girl’s bum to her waist and even a few times Darrow’s throbbing clit. However, Thor quickly swats her hand away, just to replace it with his own.
Coating Darrow with her own dripping wetness. Seeing her folds only makes Thor tighter. Star isn’t in his way for very long. “You are going to use that pretty mouth of yours,” she explains before getting herself seated right on Darrow’s face. The girl is quick to react, her tongue encircling her folds.
All while Thor’s hands are still kept busy. Once he’s decided that she’s wet enough he adds a finger. Darrow gasps at the sudden feeling. The sudden hot breath making Star’s head fly back. Thor chuckles at the reaction. Quickly he begins pumping and curling his fingers. Making it harder for her to focus and yet somehow her job of eating Star out still prevails.
This continues, Thor adding a few fingers. Even if they are ravishing each other’s bodies, there is still love floating through the air. A mutual understanding of the goal of extasy. That here they are each all working together for the pleasurement of themselves and each other. How each action is to induce a state dizzy euphoria.
Which, after loathing and lusting in that state of in between shared consciousness, was, eventually, reached. The two alien girls reaching that feeling where nothing matter except that feeling of heavy and pure sex. All while Thor gets to enjoy the sight of this jubilation. Causing the feeling of a warm buzz, proud to have had some part of this.
Not long after this bash of sudden ecstasy washes away, Thor is quickly moved to the bottom. This reach of high and then flip of positions continue all throughout the night. Even once on Darrow’s direwolf. It’s safe to say not one of them had any sleep that night. Even so, in the morning, Thor and Star return to each other. Thanking Darrow for the wonderful night and promising many lavishes.

Bucky almost seems the same with the exception in the way he carries himself. Once confident and jovial, he’s become more quiet and humble. Someone who would rather spend his time in the outskirts of a party than in the middle of it all.
It explains why you hadn’t seen him until now. He waited for everyone to be gone before coming down.
“You really haven’t changed,” Bucky states once you receive your drinks. He motions for you to take a seat at the bar and so you do. “You look exactly the same as the first time I met you.”
“I’m pretty sure I was covered in mud and grime when we first met,” you recall. “So I would consider this an upgrade.”
“Right,” Bucky lets out a short laugh. “But still, it’s nice to see that some things haven’t changed.”
“Yeah,” you sigh. “Steve was relieved when he saw me again. It helped him to have some piece of his life back even though everything was turned inside out and upside down for him. I assume it’s the same for you after… well, after what you’ve been through.”
Bucky goes silent and stares into his drink solemnly.
“We don’t have to talk about that,” you offer up to him. “I’ve heard enough and you don’t need to relive any of those details. I’m just happy that chapter of your life is over.”
“Cheers to that,” Bucky mutters, clinking his glass with yours before taking a drink. “So, onto livelier topics, how about, uh, we talk about you?”
“Please don’t tell me you want to know my true age.”
“That is actually the only thing I wanted to know,” Bucky jokes. “Rude? I know, but I just…”
You shove him but Bucky doesn’t move an inch.
“I’m older than you and that’s all you need to know.”
“Ok,” Bucky nods. “And you’re… Steve said half-human, half-Asgardian?”
“Yes,” you answer. “A demi-god to make it simpler.”
Bucky takes a second to register the information.
“Huh, after all I’ve been through I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around that.”
“Yeah, being in the presence of a God tends to render people speechless.”
“No, it’s not that exactly. It’s more about the fact that I was dating one that’s blowing my mind.”
“Well, dating seems like a reach…”
“Please don’t ruin this for me,” Bucky interrupts, causing you to laugh at the growing blush on his cheeks. “This is the peak of my existence. Nothing I ever do or have done will outshine this moment in our history. A rascal of a boy from Brooklyn having dated the daughter of Aphrodite herself.”
“Ever the flirt, Barnes,” you giggle. “ I never really stood a chance against you.”
There’s a silence that follows. It’s comfortable at first, but you both inevitably look away. As if you both realize how easy it was to fall back into old ways but how unfamiliar the motions felt now.
Bucky’s hand reaches for yours and you go still. You hadn’t realized you had been fidgeting with the half-empty glass.
“We might look the same but we’re completely different now, huh?”
There is a sudden wave of grief that lapses over you. It takes you by surprise seeing as he’s still right next to you. You feel the warmth of his hand and watch his chest rise and fall with each breath. He’s not gone, but you lost him all the same.
“I’m sorry,” you apologize to him. “It seems like the passing of time has indeed taken another victim.”
“I know,” he whispers as he lets your hand go. “I’m just an echo of the man I was back then.”
“It’s not you,” you sigh. “It’s me.”
You half-smile at him and lean into the palm of your hand.
“I’ve always kept you at a distance. For your sake, but mainly for mine. I… I can admit now that I was selfish with you. I was lonely and afraid of my mortality and I needed a way out of that and it was you. You are…”
There is a knot in your throat but you fight through it
“You are a light, Bucky. In the darkness I was in, you were the light at the end of that very long tunnel. That hasn’t changed and it will never change. So thank you for sharing that glow with me in the time I needed it the most.”
“I think that’s the nicest thing I’ve ever been told in my entire life,” Bucky answers breathlessly. “Always know how to punch the air out of my lungs.”
“It’s the truth,” you tell him.
“I sense a but coming though…”
“No, there is just an apology left to say because I am sorry that we can’t pick up where we left off. At the moment you need some light of your own, I can't be that for you.”
Bucky smiles in response, “I never expected us to return where we left off. I have too much baggage and I’m sure you’ve moved on from me a long time ago.”
“I-” you stammer out. “I mean-”
You don’t know why your gaze shifts toward the balcony and you go silent when you realize that it's empty now.
Where did Loki go?
You can’t help but search for him and find him speaking to his brother before making his way out.
“Buck, I’m sorry, but I have to go…”
Bucky is quick to notice where you focus has gone to and simply smiles once again.
“Go,” he tells you. “You should go.”
“Thank you. I’ll explain everything later,” you promise him as you get out of your seat.
“I prefer you didn’t,” he jokes. “But seriously, go. I’ll tell everyone you had to leave.”
You whisper your gratitude again before slipping away from the room. You don’t miss the smirk Natasha gives you as you run down the hallway. You watch as the elevator doors are closing and shout for Loki to hold them.
He doesn’t.
It doesn’t matter though as you manage to slip through the closing elevator doors.
“Well that’s awfully rude of you,” you say as you try to catch your breath. “No wonder people think you’re unapproachable.”
Loki just glares at you, “What are you doing?”
“Chasing after you if it isn’t obvious,” you answer. “You left without saying goodbye to me.”
“I didn’t realize I had to.”
His demeanor is cold and you wonder how you manage to fall back onto square one.
“I wish you had,” you tell him. “Save me from running after you in these heels.”
Loki’s scowl doesn’t soften, instead he breathes out of his nose loudly.
“What are you doing here?” he asks. “You were clearly enjoying your time with the soldier. Why are you here with me now?”
“Because you-” you whisper trying to figure out why your mouth has suddenly turned dry. “Because we…”
You don’t know how to put what you’re feeling into words. It was as if you were being pulled into a riptide. Just being pulled and dragged in all different directions. This was all so new to you. Staying instead of running away.
“Because I don’t want this night to end,” you answer. “So I thought we could um- go get dinner maybe?”
“Dinner?” Loki asks in surprise.
“Yeah, dinner,” you repeat. “I know this taco truck two blocks away.”
“Tacos?”
“Loki, why are you repeating everything I say?”
“Because I’m trying to make sense of what’s happening.”
The doors to the elevator open and Loki sighs before moving to leave. You’re quick to block him.
“What are you doing now?”
“I’m trying to talk to you and you’re shutting me down so I’m really doubting what I’m actually doing right now because I really thought we had something going but maybe I read everything wrong. Oh God, now I’m mortified.”
You step away and allow Loki his much desired departure.
He takes a step forward and stops right in front of you. You’re afraid to look up but you can feel his gaze settled on you.
The elevator doors close again and he’s quick to push the lobby button.
“Tacos, you said?”
“Yeah,” you whisper when you finally muster the courage to look up at him. The scowl is gone and his face has softened once more. “Yeah and maybe we could um… we can talk about Asgard.”
“Just Asgard?” he repeats with a grin.
“Yeah, Asgard,” you answered with a laugh. “We can talk about Asgard and more of our childhood traumas and…”
“Can I just kiss you now?”
“Yes, please.”
Loki’s delicate as he pulls your face up and presses his lips on yours. The tension that was all over your body disappears as you realize this was exactly what you were looking for. You melt into him and he’s quick to hold you upright as his lips continue to dance upon yours.
He pulls away too soon for your liking but he doesn’t go too far. You feel his nose bump against yours. His warm breath fanning over your face.
“What are you waiting for?” you whisper. “Kiss me again.”
Loki just sighs as he tucks some loose strands away.
“Just let me admire you,” he answers. “I thought I would never get to have you like this.”
He laughs quietly.
“I was trying to be selfless, you know.”
“You were?” you ask surprised.
“I saw you with… Bucky and I couldn’t intrude in your happiness.”
“He’s just a friend,” you explain to him. “I am happy to see him but it’s a different kind of happiness.”
“And what do you feel about me?”
The elevator doors open and you can’t help but step out onto the lobby. Loki’s quick to follow after you, pulling off his coat with the intent of placing it over your shoulders before you step outside.
“I can tell you more about my feelings on the way to the taco truck,” you tell him. “Or maybe…”
“Maybe what?” Loki asks as he catches up to you. His coat is placed on your shoulders before he opens the door.
“Maybe I can show you.”
You’re quick to push up on your toes and place a chaste kiss on his lips before grabbing his hand and leading him down the road.
“So about that trip to Asgard,” you begin. “How soon can we go?”
“We could go now if you desire.”
“Later,” you tell him as you look up at the distant stars. “I wanna stay here a little longer.”

Cries of Thunder
Chapter Twenty-One
Tumblr media
Master List |  Thor Odinson Master List
Previous Chapter
Pairing: Thor Odinson x OFC Fallon Smith (post Ragnarok - no Thanos)
Warnings: This story deals with themes of past spousal abuse to the extremes. There is a chance that all chapters may deal with tough or triggering themes. Please read with caution. Angst, Loki being Loki, and Thor being *chef’s kiss*
Fallon woke to a gentle dawn through the uncovered window, a warm body at her back, and a large hand holding her breast. Surprisingly, panic didn't flood her veins or send acid rolling in her stomach. She didn't stiffen, flinch, or cringe away; it took thirty seconds to figure out why.
Jay had not slept in the same bed as her in seven years.

Loki's Silent Sentry (Part 4)
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3
Pairing: Loki x female reader (ofc)
Warnings: Angst, arguing, Thor trying to be a better brother, Odin being a terrible father... I lied about the fluff... it's not in this part lol but it's coming I swear 💚 I know this part is short but it was getting way too long so I keep breaking it up
Tumblr media
"No! He can't do this," you think angrily. Your mind is spinning and your heart races. How could he take this away from his own son.
"You dare to tell me what I can and can not do!?" the king asks in a booming voice and you suddenly freeze.
You look at Loki, his eyes filled with fear and realize you didn't think that, you said it out loud. Odin slowly takes a step forward and you fight the urge to turn and run.
The only sounds you can hear in the crowded room are Odin's heavy footsteps as he decends the stairs and the pounding of your heart. Loki slips his hand free from yours as his father comes closer, he moves to stand in front of you protectively. It does nothing to stop the king, however, his eyes are fixed on you.
The king glares at you and says, "This does not concern you."
You don't know what gives you the strength or courage but you find yourself taking a step forward so you are next to Loki. He glances at you and you can tell he is obviously worried but you stand tall in front of the king and the whole council. You take Loki's hand again and answer Odin, "This concerns me because your ruling effects Loki's future and I care about him, unlike you or would seem."
Loki pulls you closer to him and further from his father but neither of you back away from the king.
"It is now becoming even clearer why we need to update the marriage law," Odin states, looking at the members of the council. He looks directly at Loki, "The prince does not understand his duty to this kingdom and that marriage is not to be taken lightly." Then he looks at you, "And you do not know your place."
"My place is with your son," you tell him.
"And my place is with Y/N," Loki adds in agreement.
A council member to your right says, "Prince Loki, you may think your place is with this soldier but you have a responsibility to follow the king's orders, as do we all."
You feel your chest tighten, you already know the answer to that question. You had spent many nights wondering if you were good enough for Loki.
"Is this really about my obligations as a prince?" he asks the council, "Or do you simply not think Y/N is worthy of my hand in marriage?"
"Lieutenant is barely an officer," an older woman says.
"If we take into account her family's years of service and the ranks they reached, we can easily assume she will at least rise to major like her parents before her," a younger man counters.
"Not for many, many years," another man responds.
"The law only states that a soldier must be a captain, that's clearly an obtainable rank," a woman you barely recognize defends you.
"But she is not yet a captain," someone argues. The chatter and disagreements begin to mix together and become louder as each person fights to have their opinion heard.
You keep your hand in Loki's, holding onto him to keep your bearings as you try to follow the numerous conversations. He squeezes your hand gently and you look up at him. He tries to give you a reassuring smile but you can clearly see he is as nervous as you are. None of this has gone the way he had planned and you are both terrified of what could happen.
"Enough of this!" Odin raises his voice, causing the room to go quiet in an instant. "I have made my decision."
"Father, please. Don't do this to us," Loki begs his father but the king seems unphased by how much he is hurting his son.
"Your highness-" you start but can't finish your thought.
"One more word from you..." he threatens and you become quiet, moving closer to Loki.
The queen moves forward, you had almost forgotten she was in the throne room as she sat quietly and observed the arguments. You and Loki both look at her with a mixture of hope and desperation. Is she going to overrule the king as she had when he wanted to send you away? Does she have a clever suggestion to keep you together? Is she going to agree with her husband? Your mind races as you wait for her to speak.
"I wish to hear what Lieutenant Y/L/N has to say," she says calmly.
Odin turns to look at his wife and something in his demeanor changes. You can't tell if he loves his wife but you can see he respects her enough to not challenge her in front of the council. He looks back at you and waves his hand slightly, "Very well, but these will be your final words in my presence."
You swallow hard and Loki squeezes your hand again to make sure you know you have his support.
"I love Asgard and I have dedicated my life to serving the crown and this kingdom," you begin, unsure of where you are going. "I admit, I am at a loss to discover that this means little to you. I have fought to protect the Bifrost, I have shed blood defending our outposts, I am willing to die in place of the royal family as a sworn sentry. Does this truly make me less worthy of marrying Loki than a woman who was born into one of the council families purly by chance?"
The members of the council begin to whisper again, discussing the question you posed but your attention turns to Loki. You keep your eyes locked on his and tell him, "I don't know what will happen but I need you to know that I will never stop loving you, even if they pull us apart."
"I will never let them take you from me, I promise," he says and you believe him with your whole heart.
Tumblr media
The queen nods when you look back towards her but she looks heartbroken for her son and you fear she won't interfere again.
"Now, let us put this nonsense behind us and-" the king begins.
"Wait," Thor interrupts him as gasps spread through the crowd. Now it is Thor who approaches the edge of the throne. Odin glares at his oldest son but says nothing, allowing him to continue.
"I think it would be wise to explain why you truly want to disregard the existing law," he says.
"I have made my opinion on the matter perfectly clear and above all else, it is simply outdated," Odin answers but you can tell the council members are not sure that is the whole truth.
"If you do not tell them," Thor threatens calmly, "I will."
"What are you talking about brother?" Loki asks, his voice full of confusion.
Before Thor can respond, Odin says, "You will do no such thing."
Thor pauses for a moment as if weighting the pros and cons of disobeying his father and you hold your breath while he decides. He avoids Odin's stare and looks at you and Loki. "Loki," he starts.
"Stop this now," Odin commands.
Thor doesn't stop, "We knew about this law, we have for years."
"What?" Loki takes a small step back in shock. "You knew and you said nothing? Even after you knew how I felt about Y/N?"
"Yes but there was nothing to be done," his brother explains. "Even if I had told you, you would still never be allowed to marry her."
"Why not? Why are we being punished?" Loki asks desperately looking from his brother to his father and back at Thor.
"You are not being punished, you are being used as a pawn," Thor says, looking down as if he is ashamed to admit the truth. The queen looks to Odin, her eyes full of questions. The council begins to whisper again as they attempt to figure out if anyone knows what Thor is referring to.
"A pawn," Loki repeats, his eyes unfocused as he stares at the floor. You hold him tightly, hoping to bring his attention back to you.
Tumblr media
"Everyone out!" Odin orders the council to clear the throne room but no one moves.
"What is Prince Thor saying?" one person asks. "A pawn in what game?" asks another. Dozens of questions fly through the air until Loki finally looks up again.
"Brother," he says and the room goes silent. "Please, tell me what you mean? That I am to be used?"
"I'm sorry Loki," he says and your heart pounds faster. "You can't marry Y/N, because you have been promised to another."

Saw Thor Love and Thunder this past weekend….
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have so many feels and thoughts for different scenarios and AU’s
Like for Thor, he learns how to love and open his heart again to y/n, and has a found family dynamic with y/n while raising Eternity/Love
If this is an AU where Loki is still alive, and after seeing his brother’s pain and trying to help him heal, he realizes he can’t hold his feelings back anymore for y/n
Gorr being conflicted in his feelings and mission for y/n who’s a god and most likely helping Thor but also realizing, in a bittersweet way, his daughter has a second chance of being a family again with y/n

Loki & The Siren; Chapter Eight
Magic, invitations, and a challenge well met.
Fic Synopsis:
This is the story about how you met and fell in love with Loki, hundreds of years before the events in Avengers, while his family was visiting Alfheim, where you were a siren.
It is a companion piece to Lightning Over the Sea-Redux to give more insight into your past and relationship with Loki.
Tumblr media
As the days pass, the library becomes a sanctuary of sorts, a place where you and Loki can lose yourselves in the magic and wonder of the ancient Æsir. The musty scent of ancient tomes, the quiet rustle of pages, and the warm glow of candlelight all serve to create a sense of intimacy and closeness. Under Frigga's patient guidance, your abilities grow with each passing day.
Each day, the ancient texts sprawl out before you like a map to hidden treasures, and beside you, Loki's presence is both a catalyst and an enigma. His eyes glitter with mischief as they meet yours across the parchment strewn table. There's amusement there–an unspoken challenge hanging between you.
"Concentrate," he murmurs. It's gentle but firm—a reminder that you're here for more than just study. He sits back hands clasped together neatly as if posing for a portrait, yet his gaze is anything but still or serene as he studies your face with an intensity that quickens your heartbeat.
You take a deep breath and focus on the incantation at hand. The words are more than mere sounds; they're keys unlocking doors within yourself you never knew existed. Your fingers dance over the runes, energy pulsating beneath your skin.
And then it happens: power surges forward at your command, weaving around you in shimmering threads visible only to those initiated into seiðr's secrets. A satisfied smile tugs at Loki's lips as he watches the arcane energies swirl about you - not in triumph but appreciation for the sheer force of will emanating from your very being.
The room crackles with silent electricity - potent and raw - as if all Asgard itself were holding its breath. You cast a sideways glance at Loki and find that same current reflected back to you from within his gaze.
Yet even as you delve deeper into the mysteries of seiðr and take pleasure in Loki's company, outside this sanctuary of sorcery, Thor’s presence hovers like sunlight waiting behind storm clouds—an unspoken tension exists whenever he's near. Your encounters are brief: nods exchanged in passing—each laden with meanings neither of you fully understands or wants to acknowledge openly. He seems to be everywhere but always in the background, watching you with a mixture of curiosity and something else you can't quite place.
At first, you try to ignore him, focusing instead on your studies with Loki and Frigga. But there, just beyond the periphery of your newfound joy, lingers an imposing silhouette. You spy Thor with his back often turned towards you, yet somehow inexplicably aligned to face you whenever you lift your gaze—his eyes shimmering pools of blue that hint at oceans and skies unexplored.
At first glance, it seems trivial—the way his golden mane catches Asgard's eternal light or how he unconsciously flexes his hands into fists before relaxing them again. But subtleties begin to etch themselves onto the canvas of your attention: The faintest furrow upon his brow when watching you from afar; the ghost of a smile playing on his lips when he thinks no one is looking—especially not at him looking at you.
It's not just his physical presence - though there's no denying that he's a formidable figure, all broad shoulders and rippling muscles. But, no, it's something deeper, something that speaks to a part of you that you didn't even know existed. Something you can't quite name.
You hate it.
