Could you do a post about Axolotls? We had two of those sweet little ones in our school and I really loved watching them C:
Animal of the day: Axolotls !
Oh this is one of the coolest animals ever !! Thank you for the ask !!
Axolotls are the paedomorphic forms of the Ambystoma mexicanum salamander. This means they remain in the larval form into adulthood, instead of going through metamorphosis like other species of salamander. Tiger salamanders can also do this occasionally in response to different environmental factors, but axolotls are obligate paedomorphs, meaning there is not an alternative adult form for them to metamorphose into.
Neoteny (staying in the larval form for a prolonged period) has many advantages. Axolotls keep growing all their life, unlike many animals that stop growing when they reach sexual maturity. They can also regenerate their limbs, eyes, gills, and even brain parts, if they are lost or damaged, which is really cool and important for scientific research !! This is similar to how human children's bodies recover much faster from injuries than adults'.
Despite their popularity as pets, axolotls are critically endangered in the wild. They are only native to a specific lake in Mexico (there used to be two lakes that they lived in, but one of them dried up). Their habitats are becoming increasingly polluted, and invasive species are also disrupting the ecosystems that they are part of.

heard, I heard, across a moonlit sea,
The old voice warning me,
"Beware, beware the Daughter of the Sea",
"Beware, beware…"
…of me.
