When I adopted Nikon, her caretaker emphasized how, as an amputee cat, she might not be as active as other cats I’ve had. She was small and shy and more likely to develop arthritis, and might need help getting around. I moved my bed to make it easier for her to reach. We worried about her on the stairs, unsure if she had ever even seen stairs before, as she had been feral before she was rescued.
Now, watching her shoot around the house like a god damn rocket, I’m feeling like the warning that she might be too calm and quiet was misleading to say the least.
I love Nikon! And I wanted a playful and snuggly cat! She certainly is both of those things. But oh my god. I’m baffled by her. She runs from the upstairs bedrooms to the downstairs living room to the kitchen in ten seconds flat. She perched on the sewing machine. Her favorite place to sit is the tv stand, directly in front of the subtitles. She has been known to steal entire pizza boxes and drag them across the house at record speed. She opens doors. She opens drawers! And her new favorite hobby is stealing my makeup brushes from their container upstairs and bringing them downstairs to play with them.
She’s a menace, and honesty as someone who uses mobility aids but still loves some chaotic and intensive sports, she’s the perfect cat for me.
Another Art for Crimbo! We have a Necromancing Mediator who asks the dying for their bones and will take NO for an answer, and her loyal familiar. And we have a lounge singer who Will Not Wear A Shirt, and practices Leg Week instead of Leg Day! And we have a Tiefling bard with a Spooky Lute, made from the skull of her mentor as a final request. It plays beautifully but it’s very unsettling…
One of my favorite sounds in the world right now is hearing the little click clacks down the hall of Puddin walking somewhere. Her steps so slow as she still gets used to her missing limb and her adventures short before she decides it's time to go back and sleep on my bed again. I love her so much! She's so sweet and soft. I'm so happy to give a basically feral cat who got in such a a terrible accident a soft and loving home where she can just spend most of her time sleeping in a soft comfortable place where she never has to worry or work again. She deserves it and more! I love you Puddin ❤️
