Barbara Thomas stands at her daughter Lisa's grave. Lisa Thomas was found murdered on October 8th, 1974.
It was October 7th, 1974 when Barbara Thomas last got to spend an afternoon with her daughter Lisa.
Tumblr media
“She was always upbeat and she sparkled when she came into a room," Barbara remembers about her daughter. "She was a friend to all and always was willing to help out."
"I hope that I find out what happened to my daughter before I die. Who did it and why? Lisa’s dad went to an early grave never having the answers, I don’t want that to happen to me. I will fight to see that she gets the justice that she deserved."
Tragically, Barbara passed away in 2020 without ever having the closure of knowing what happened to Lisa.

i love murder mysteries that don't try too hard. realism who cares about realism, a billionaire was murdered in a swimming pool and diamonds are hiding in the champagne ice bucket. here's an abundance of clues, we got initialed handkerchiefs and smashed wristwatches galore, they're all red herrings but gosh they're fun to decorate with. alibis, no one has an alibi, or everyone does and they're all about to tumble like a house of cards, don't overthink it. you want to GUESS the murderer? FUCK OFF, we'll get there when we get there, just enjoy the ride you hussy!!! provides a nice alternative to true crime's voyeuristic "this normal real-life woman you never met was brutally murdered and the guy who did it will never be caught or punished"

the obsession with true crime really has rotted people’s brains like this isn’t just a “casual interest” anymore, these people are out here playing armchair psychologist and psychoanalyzing behaviors of abuse victims to see if it fits their idea of what “real victims” act like (as if that can even be measured) because they think their Superior Knowledge of the Minds of Criminals earned by listening to some podcasts makes them an expert. & true crime youtubers like bailey sarian don’t actually give a SHIT about victims of [insert atrocity here], they just care about the content and what entertainment value can come from it. it’s fun to them, rather than horrifying. and that’s really, really scary. this is what your brain on true crime looks like

I'm convinced men point to Aileen Wuornos as “THE female serial killer” (instead of Juana Barraza, for example) is because she is the embodiment of women they hate.
Many people would use the excuse that they point to Wuornos because she is American. There are more than a handful of examples of female serial killers in America who have killed more people than Aileen Wuornos ever did (Christine Falling, Genene Jones, Nannie Doss, Belle Gunness, etc), so she is not special in that regard.
People would argue that her method was just so unspeakable. Most female serial killers murder by poison or similar less violent methods than their male counterparts. Her method of killings was by shooting her victims, which is not very atypical of female murderers.
Aileen Wuornos is singled out as “THE female serial killer” because she was a lesbian, she was a prostitute, and she killed when she knew she would be r*ped.
It is undisputed that Aileen was most likely raped by the first man she killed, Richard Mallory, because he has a history of s*xual assault and rape. People scoff at the idea of a prostitute being raped, but every time you make a person decide on food for dinner or not having sex with you, that is rape.
These men view her as “THE female serial killer” because she is the embodiment of women that are subhuman to them, yet they still believe they deserving of sex from.
Aileen Wuornos was mentally ill; she had a psychopathic personality and likely had ASPD and/or BPD as well. She was severely s*xually abused as a child. There are definitely red flags of someone who would become a disturbed individual, I'm not arguing against that. I'm just asking, “Why do they focus on Aileen Wuornos?”
Reason 1383929 I hate “true crime communities”

one of the many things to love about katniss is that she's not spiteful, or revenge minded, no matter how many reasons society and her circumstances give her to be, and always has empathy for others.
and this extends to people she doesn't have much emotional connection to. for as much as she regarded the careers as the capitol's well trained lapdogs, she killed cato out of mercy rather than revenge. she acknowledged that cato and clove could have survived if her and peeta hadn't, that someone like marvel who murdered her ally (a twelve year old, the most innocent and vulnerable person in the arena and who katniss saw as a sister) might have had a life to go back to, a home with family members waiting for his return. she felt guilty during her interactions with gloss and cashmere because she killed children from their district that they might have mentored. katniss explicitly said she did not like enobaria as a person, but didn't want to exclude her from the protection deal with coin.
katniss also has a kind view of people that, as cinna himself said, she should have despised. the capitol citizens are vapid and privileged and watch children like her die for their entertainment every year. yet katniss still forges a relationship with cinna and is able to be vulnerable and share her private stories and treasured memories with him acting as the capitol audience. and while she sees her prep team as ignorant and childish pets, she does have affection for them and objected to them being tortured in district thirteen. even though effie literally comes to her district representing the most evil aspect of the capitol and every year sends two children from her home to die, katniss still sees her redeeming characteristics, bonds with effie, and makes an effort to spare her from the rebels.
no matter who the person is or what they might have done to her/her loved ones, katniss recognizes humanity in everyone and attempts to limit the suffering of others when possible, regardless of her personal opinion about them.

im so srs but true crime fans annoy me so fucking much like. a lot ! i cant even be polite abt it, someone tries to ask if i've listened/watched the latest podcast tv show movie whatever and i shut tht down immediately. like i do not caaare abt how u want to ~understand the mind of a killer~ i don't care tht u think ur so quirky and unique for not being disturbed by graphic descriptions of death i don't care!!! the blatant disregard for the victims and their loved ones so u can parade around their killers like theyre ur problematic fav on a tv show irks me to no end like ooohhhhh u have such an interest in the macabre and u love listening to podcasts of white women giggling over wine while discussing the gruesome details of people getting brutally murdered. shld we get the fbi in here i bet theyd love to hear ur dumbass theories abt what happened. god.

bro i hate confirmation bias every time i see a terf post going around with ‘TRANS PEOPLE ARE EVIL AND HERES OUR PROOF’ [like five different local news articles of individual trans women who allegedly did something shitty] i wanna make a post thats like ‘VENDING MACHINES ARE EVIL AND WILL KILL YOU THERE IS NO SAFE WAY TO INTERACT WITH THEM AND HERES MY PROOF’ and make a post with a bunch of articles of people getting killed or hurt by vending machines. which are perfectly safe machines in most cases. but sometimes a machine individually has a problem with it. or it was being fucked with by someone who should’ve thought a little harder about what they were doing and then turned around and said it was the machine’s fault after spending half an hour shaking it and abusing it. or maybe its just some weirdo looking for attention or reimbursement. but they’re all dangerous- trust me, these five articles will prove my point, we need to get rid of every vending machine, it’s the only way to ensure our safety.

He could tell the exact second Tommy’s conditioning kicked in. The thrashing struggle came to a shuddering stop and the kid froze beneath him in a way that made Wilbur feel wretchedly ill. Crimson poured out around the pair in violent glyphs, but Tommy stayed quiet and trembling and waiting, just like a good little altar lamb should. Wilbur hated this, hated himself for what he was doing to his baby brother.
But there was only one way to summon The Blood God.

not to be obnoxious but like. you people are mad at those watcher guys for making you pay for a subscription service. but you were all able to look past the fact that they had an entire series where they just made jokes about actual real life true crime cases. that makes sense

I went running at 10pm like every murder victim on any murder podcast ever. It went great! I love it when nobody's around! Wish my insomnia was magically cured, so I could go back to running early in the morning when nobody is around instead
also my wittle fingers froze... I love this seasonally appropiate weather but I need gloves.

Emmett Louis Till
Born 🧸 : July 25th , 1941

A fun-loving and free-spirited boy, EmmettvTill was the only child of Louis and Mamie Till. A childhood case of polio left him with a stutter but he didn't let that stop him.
