Parrots often turn up as props in European fruit/food feast still life paintings, such as these works by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller (Austrian, 1793-1865):
1. Fruit Still Life with an Amazon Parrot, 1824
🆔Turquoise-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva), native to South America
2. Still Life with Fruit and Parrot, 1831
🆔female Eclectus Parrot (Eclectus roratus), native to Australasia/Melanesia
there's Some things that i don't completely agree with personally, like attributing the Third sin to Materialism rather than Connection (i'd argue that the Ancients had no big issue with being materialistic, considering their golden attires and such- and that going with Connection overall better addresses both the core of Materialism and relationships overall) and then attributing the word Dynasty specifically to asian cultures but that's more history/word definition beef more than anything djgklsjlcgjkd
oh how i'd love to have a debate with this guy about Ancients...
Turquoise parrots (Neophema pulchella), a species native to eastern Australia
The most famous grass parrot is the orange-bellied parrot (Neophema chrysogaster), endemic to southern Australia and critically endangered. Like the scarlet-chested parrot, orange-bellied parrots are migratory, which makes them very difficult to monitor, prompting scientists to trial approaches such as engaging the public to help track them.
you might think that's noticeably larger than any living parrot, and you might assume that's an error on my part, but i think that a neathy bird like the blue prophet might as well be suspiciously large compared to their normal equivalent
disclaimer: this is not even remotely close to how you should hold a parrot. do not attempt to hold a macaw of any size like this.
had a dream I was watching the birds and there was a really cool one 😌 we also had a new tree/shrubbery/plant in our garden that had turquoise leaves and then there was a bird whose feathers looked just like the leaves and I was like woooaaaaggg coolest bird ever!! 👀 but those birds (and the plant) don't exist, esp not in germany. and in winter.
Maria Theresia van Thielen (Flemish, 1640-1706)
Still Life with Parrot, 1661
oil on canvas
on display at the “Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800” exhibition at Baltimore Museum of Art
🆔 The parrot looks like the subspecies of Turquoise-Fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva aestiva) native to E. Brazil - perhaps an import from the Dutch Brazil colony?
PS - Some of her works have likely been misattributed to her father, but fortunately she signed this one, right below the parrot!
