"Where's Klaus?" Five asks, and Ben shrugs.
"Dunno. Hargreeves took him."
"Dad has Klaus?" Luther's head shoots up and Diego glances over from his conversation with Lila. Five doesn't stick around to hear any more, teleporting away.
He arrives in Reginald's bedroom, but it's empty. Strange equipment was left on the table. There are a few scuff marks in the doorway, Five notes. Like something was dragged. He follows them outside, to an empty parking space where Reginald's car is supposed to be.
Five gets the feeling that Dad wasn't allowed to drive, or leave the Sparrow Academy, after all he's heard about them drugging Reginald. He teleports again.
There's not much of the city left, since the Kugelblitz is destroying everything.
Reginald can't hide forever.
Klaus wakes up in the trunk of a moving car.
He shouts, the sound muffled, as he hits the roof of the trunk. His arms feel unnaturally heavy. He can't remember how he got here; Dad opened his arms for a hug, Klaus walked in, there was something cold on his back... then nothing.
Klaus looks around but sees nothing but darkness, and he shouts again. It's too dark, it reminds him of the mausoleum. The driver hears him and the engines stop. The trunk opens and Klaus tries to sit up, but he feels too heavy. His limbs won't cooperate.
"38 minutes," Reginald says, checking his watch. "You'll have to do better than that, young man. The time you spend dead is time spent vulnerable to attacks and unable to protect your team."
"You killed me," Klaus says, voice thick in disbelief. Reginald helps him out of the trunk of the car.
"It was necessary for the experimentation to begin," Reginald replies.
"Experimentation?" A voice demands sharply, and Klaus and Reginald spin around.
Five is furious, furious in a way that he only gets when his family or the whole world is in danger.
Dad experimented on Klaus?
"Ah, the teleporting one," Reginald recognizes him. "Stand back, young man, the hippie and I have training to begin."
"If you think I'm going to go anywhere with you," Klaus starts, bristling, and Reginald reaches into his back pocket. Five isn't sure what he expected Dad to pull out, but it wasn't a gun. Klaus lets out a shout of shock as Reginald cocks the gun and points it at him.
"Your time begins now," He says, and shoots.
Five screams.
He teleports over, grabbing Klaus’ shoulders as the taller sibling’s knees buckle. Five can’t hold Klaus’ weight, and it’s all he can do to guide their controlled fall to a gentle descent. He grapples with Klaus’ body for a second, shoving his face in front of the wound. The blood is already staining the majority of Klaus’ shirt, originating from the bullet hole directly in front of Klaus’ heart.
Five’s eyes snap up to Klaus’ face, but it tells him only what he doesn’t want to know. Klaus’ lifeless eyes stare back at him unblinkingly. Klaus is dead.
“No,” Five begs. “No, no no no no no!” He shakes Klaus, but he knows it's useless. They were supposed to have three more days, give or take. They were supposed to find a solution to the apocalypse, not be shot by the side of some road with- with Dad, of all people.
Dad.
Five’s grip on Klaus tightens for a moment, before he carefully loosens his grip and eases the rest of Klaus’ body to the ground. After a moment of hesitation, he closes Klaus’ eyes with gentle fingers. He gets to his feet silently and turns towards his father.
“You killed Klaus.” He says, and almost doesn’t recognize his voice. It’s so flat. Normally when he’s mad, he takes action first, talks after.
“It was necessary to test his new powers and hone them.” Dad says, and looks unrepentant. Already the gun is pointed down and the watch pulled out, like Dad doesn’t think Five is going to do anything about the fact that he just killed Five’s brother. Five’s lips curl.
“You killed Klaus. To test his powers. Sounds like an oxymoron.”
“Not when his power is the ability to come back from the dead.” Reginald sniffs. “So he claims. The electricity may have been a fluke.”
“You think Klaus’ power is the ability to come back to the dead?” Five scoffs, rage rising to unbearable heights. “His ability is to see ghosts, not become them!” He teleports over to Reginald in a flash, ripping the gun out of the older man’s hands and pointing the weapon at him. Dad raises an unimpressed eyebrow.
“Listen here, young man-”
“I am not a young man,” Five seethes, “and you killed my brother. If you think that I was going to stand by without any retribution-”
The body behind him gasps. Five whirls around, gun falling to the ground with a clatter.
Klaus’ eyes are open.
“Oww,” Klaus moans.
“Only 20 minutes this time,” Reginald announces. “Improvement!”
“Klaus?” Five drops down to his knees next to his brother, eyes wide. He reaches out and grabs Klaus’ wrist, checking for a pulse. The arm is limp in his hands, but Klaus’ heartbeat is there. Strong. Alive.
“You’re okay,” Five breathes, and then he’s yanking the edge of Klaus’ shirt up, checking the wound. Klaus protests as Five runs his fingers over the already healing bullet wound. Just like the speargun from earlier, Five realizes.
No wonder Diego had looked so pale and alarmed. Everyone had brushed it off as Klaus, but it seems that this wasn’t even the first time Klaus had died.
“Fivey, Fivey, gentle touch,” Klaus whines, voice high.
“You’re in pain,” Five murmurs. He yanks his hands away like they burn. “I…” His voice trails off, and he comes to a stop again.
“Reanimation times will only improve with practice,” Reginald says behind them, and Five whips around, snatching up the gun he had so foolishly dropped on the ground, and points it at his dad. The gun was still cocked from earlier, it would be so easy to pull the trigger and-
“Five, no,” Klaus protests weakly, and Five lowers the gun slightly.
“You won’t be doing a thing to my brother,” He informs Reginald, and he turns back to Klaus, wrapping his arms around his brother in a weak facilime of a hug, and teleports them both away.
They’re away from Dad, and Five is still shaking. He can’t stop thinking about it, can’t stop wrapping his hand around Klaus’ wrist, just to feel his heartbeat jumping along.
Klaus just died. Klaus may have come back to life, it may be that Klaus has this new power that Five didn’t know about, but it doesn’t change the fact that Klaus had been dead. And Five hadn’t been able to do anything to stop it. He wishes that he could have protected Klaus, jumped in front of the bullet, attacked Dad, hell, not even teleported to this stupid universe where Reginald was still alive in the first place. But he hadn’t, and the guilt that he feels is for Klaus’ death, sits on his shoulder.
“You’ve got this look like you’re thinking something stupid,” Klaus tells him, and knocks their shoulders together as Five helps Klaus to his feet. “Whatever you’re thinking, you’re wrong, you know?”
“I’m sorry,” Five says, and Klaus snorts.
“For what? You didn’t do anything wrong. In fact,” Klaus strikes a dramatic pose, “one might call you my hero. But if you’re really desperate for imaginary redemption, well, a nice bottle of alcohol wouldn’t go amiss. I’m not particularly picky, but I’m sure the hotel has a nice selection to choose from, and I wouldn’t say no to-”
Klaus is fine.

Uncle!Klaus x Niece!Reader | Recommended by: @popfishjr

It was a dark Saturday evening, your father, Diego, was out doing... whatever Diego does on a dark Saturday evening. So, you decided, what better to do than hang out with your favourite uncle, Uncle Klaus. You rolled out of bed and reached for the phone. Klaus was never busy on a Saturday, usually he would spend his Saturdays with you, so you called him and told him to come pick you up. He agreed, excitedly talking about what he had planned.
"Oh my, dear, dear (Y/N/N), you will LOVE what I have planned today!"
Intrigued, you questioned what he meant however he refused to tell you. Excited to find out what he meant, you rushed to get ready and waited to hear the honk of the horn to tell you that Klaus was there and ready to collect you.
~*~*~*~*~
As you finished doing your hair, you heard the HONK and rushed to put your shoes on and get out of the house. As you shut and locked the door, you turned around to be greeted with the sight of your uncle sat in his car with a child-like smile on his face. Quickly, you walked up to the car, pulled the door open, and sat down next to your uncle.
"Will you tell me what we're doing now?"
"Nope, no chance, you'll find out soon enough!"
As you drove further into the city, you were greeted with bright, fun-coloured lights and you felt the car slow down. Finally, you realised what Klaus had planned. He was taking you to a carnival. You grinned happily, and looked over to Klaus. As you pulled into the parking lot, you got hit with memories from years back when you went to the carnival with Klaus and your dad.
You got out of the car and Klaus grabbed you by the sleeve and dragged you to some of the rides. You screamed from the thrill and held onto your uncle on the rides. Laughs and shrieks of happiness were all that emanated from you and your uncle. Dizzy from the rides, you stumbled over to the cotton candy stands, you giggled as you shared it with your uncle. He reached into his pockets and realised quickly he didn't have enough money to keep paying for all the fun things the both of you wanted.
"Hey, (Y/N/N)? Don't tell your Dad about what I'm about to do."
You looked at him, perplexed, as he stood from the bench and walked over to a wealthy-looking man. You sat there, staring at him, unknowing to what he was about to do. Sneakily, he reached into the mans pockets and pickpocketed some money. You gasped but as Klaus held a finger to his lips playfully you couldn't help but let out a small laugh. You knew Klaus shouldn't be doing that but you were used to a lot of his illegal shenanigans.
Before he could get too far from the man, the victim of the theft realised what had happened and turned around to see Klaus with his money. You heard the man shout and he began to chase Klaus and you. You shot up from the bench, hearing a string of 'Shit!' fall from Klaus' mouth. You ran as fast as you could with your uncle, you ran through some attractions, hoping to lose the man. The man hadn't lost you and Klaus but he had been significantly slowed down so there was now quite a bit of distance between you and the man. You managed to make it to the car and threw yourselves in and sped off before the man could reach you.
As you slowed down, realising the man couldn't get to you anymore, the panic wore off and you and Klaus began to laugh hysterically. You laughed about the incident all the way back to your house. After a long day, you both stumbled into the living room. Too tired to change or even go up to your room, you and klaus collapsed onto the couch and fell asleep quickly.
As chaotic as it was, you deemed it a pretty successful day.
