Tom Hiddleston always gets the short end of the stick when it comes to ‘Loki.’
- His show didn’t have showrunners that actually knew about or cared about his character
- The original script he was given was blacklisted in 2018
- Michael Waldron the show ‘creator’ is a ‘phile’ and a sicko overall.
- Kate Herron said that they ‘made things up as they went along.’
- They wanted to ‘knock Tom down a notch’ in order to let Sylvie shine. I recall Taika saying a similar thing in relation to Ragnarok and even Feige removed him from Age of Ultron due to his ‘insane acting skills.’ 🙄
- Apparently Chris Hemsworth is ‘sick of Loki’ and said that he’s like a “clingy ex-girlfriend who can’t take the hint that it’s done, it’s over.”
- Taika Waititi said that Loki outshined Thor before so he wanted to stop that from happening.
- Taika wanted to put Loki in a porta potty:
Tumblr media
- Taika wanted Tom to get pregnant with a horse implying bestial r*pe!!
Tumblr media
- Most of his scenes from the movies were deleted
- Michael Waldron and Kate Herron said that they wanted to ‘knock Tom down a few pegs’ in order to give Sylvie a chance to shine
- He had to film the show during COVID which stuffed a lot of things
- He couldn’t promote the second season due to the SAG AFTRA strikes.
- He’s never featured in the Marvel opening title sequence
- He is still one of the ‘lowest paid Marvel actors.’
- He goes out of his way to promote Infinity War even though he’s only in it for 2 minutes!
- His series didn’t get the ‘spotlight treatment’ or have and show runners who KNEW anything about Marvel or Loki! Tom spent FOUR days showing them PowerPoint presentations showing them all about aloki and the MCU at the infamous ‘Loki Lectures’ but “SCREW YOU TOM AND YOUR CHARACTER! WE CARE MORE ABOUT KANG AND THE TVA, YOUR ‘CHARACTER’ IS JUST A PLACE HOLDER NOW!”
- They made him look older and less appealing in the show than he does irl. Look at him in some shots in the show then see him behind the scenes! The makeup, lighting and angles were unflattering at times! They even managed to remove that sparkle in his eye in the show but it was there behind the scenes!
- The director of S1, Kate Herron said that it was wanted Sophia/Sylvie to ‘knock Tom Hiddleston down a notch.’
Tumblr media
The director of S2, Aaron Moorhead said ‘Why don’t you just go away?’
Tumblr media
What we could have had… 😪 Poor guy. I wonder how he feels being bullied, exploited and sidelined all the time. 😢💔

👀👀 what's ur beef w/ ragnarok?
SO MUCH lmao
Okay, but seriously, the answer is long and complicated, so strap in for this salty ride.
My #1 issue with Ragnarok isn't that it's a horrible movie, but rather that it's a horrible movie within the framework of the MCU. There are many casual Marvel viewers who don't care about the continuity or tone of the larger series, and that's perfectly okay! Ragnarok is probably a very entertaining film for many of those folks.
However, I am not one of those people. I do care (or, rather I did lol) about the hot mess that is the MCU. And Ragnarok just fucked all the characters from the Thor series sideways, along with Bruce. Nobody seemed to notice because it was flashy and fun and lighthearted! The perfect cure to the first two Thor movies, which were dull as dirt except for Loki, if we're gonna be totally honest.
Taika Waititi has been extremely open about the fact that he did not give a flying fuck about the existing canon and that he hates Loki. He was there to make his movie with no regard to the fact that it's within a goddamn series, and it has to make sense beyond its own 2 hours. He's also ableist and sexist af, arguably anti-Black wrt Tessa Thompson, violates his actors' boundaries on set, and generally has an ego the size of Jupiter. But nobody wants to talk about that :))))
Ragnarok is a tonal mess. Serious moments are given no room to breathe, and the humor kneecaps itself because it's overdone. I mean, when Asgard is destroyed--we're talking about the total annihilation of Thor's home planet--we get about 5 seconds to absorb that before somebody cracks a joke. I felt more about the destruction of Asgard while watching Loki learn of it (in the Loki show) from reading a file than I did while watching it actually happen on screen in Ragnarok.
Love and Thunder is currently getting panned for overused humor that undercuts the stakes of the movie, a predictable but poorly executed plot, empty character arcs, and failure to deliver the significant queer rep we were promised. Which totals up to a completely skippable chapter of the MCU.
All of that applies to my feelings about Ragnarok! So, that's my beef a;sdkfjiertj;aslkdfj

Listen if you're excited for Thor: Love and Thunder, I don't want you to feel like I'm shitting on your parade so please, for your own peace of mind, dni. But that scene in the recent trailer actually PAINS ME.
There's so much talk about sexualising women in the film industry. Black Widow is a perfect example of this. Because while yes, she can wear tight suits if she feels like it, there's no need to focus the camera on her butt all the time.
BUT THEN WHY ARE WE DOING THE VERY SAME THING TO MEN. AND CHEERING DIRECTORS ON WHILE WE'RE AT IT.
Yes, all Thor's previous shirtless scenes were pointless as well but this one is just outright offending. It's not funny. It's assault. Undressing someone, in front of an audience, WHILE they're chained up, WITHOUT intervention from their so called friends WHO ARE RIGHT THERE WATCHING, is so wrong on so many levels.
And to then have people actually faint when watching him (while nakedness was very normalised in greek culture but I did not expect Taika Waititi to respect historical and cultural property) only adds to the discomfort of it all.
I would even go as far as to say that to idiolise bodies like and presenting this idea that having such a godly body ironic lol makes people faint, contributes to present day ideas of beauty and attractiveness being these impossibly high standards that "normal" people can never achieve. AND it puts people who are deemed beautiful and attractive on a pedestal so that when they make a mistake, it's "impossible" or "not their fault".
ESPECIALLY considering Thor's backstory up to this point. While I despised the way his arc in Endgame was handled, I did appreciate what it tried to represent or what I hoped they were trying to represent: that looking a certain way doesn't mean you're not worthy of everything you were worthy of before.
Considering this I was hoping for more of a Maui from Moana, or Thor from the God of War games, body type for Thor this movie. To fully embrace this idea that strenght doesn't necessarily mean having shiny mucles. In fact, to be strong the body needs to have weight because it adds to the strength. But I knew going into this trailer that wouldn't be the case.
So I tried to focus on the positive.
It's amazing to see Thor getting better and being emotionally healed enough to start taking care of his body again. And I do appreciate the scenes showing him actually working for it. BUT all of that is then completely undone by the worshipping of his "god bod". Suddenly it's no longer about him surviving and learning to live with his trauma but about looking good again.
Last time we saw Thor he was made fun of and insulted for his weight gain, while the focus should've been on getting him the help he needed to process his trauma. Now he's finally getting better though I wouldn't go as far as to say he got the help he needed because a mere workout isn't gonna do it and he now he's back into shape and once again he's made fun of for his looks.
All this character is anymore is a pretty object to look at. Of course people laugh when his clothes are removed against his will. Because does he look uncomfortable, angry or sad? No. The opposite, he jokes about it.
Nothing that happens effects him and so nothing he does effects us. Even when it really really should.

Thor: Love and Thunder Review
Another Marvel review? Yes, and it’s going to be about as interesting as the last one.
Thor: Love and Thunder. Where do I begin? I gotta say, I was hoping for more from Taika Waititi, considering the job he did on Ragnarok. This one suffered from a lot of the trademark Marvel “doing too much with too little time” issues. You cannot fit as much exposition as they want into one movie, you just can’t. Especially considering having to reintroduce Jane and explain where she’d been all this time. There was also a lot of plot holes to fill, apparently. Heimdall had a kid this whole time? Jane has cancer? There are other aliens living in New Asguard?
It was fun, but nothing I was looking for after Ragnarok. The film felt like it was originally a joke, actually. Like Waititi made the gayest script he could thinking Disney would reject it, and somehow it got approved and he suddenly had to make the movie. This is actually one of the things I really like about it - it’s so far out of left field as far as Marvel movies have gone in the past. Based on Waititi’s writing style in general, I’m choosing to believe this is how it went down.
I’ll also say that I think Christian Bale as Gor was awesome. He was pretty much the entire draw of the movie for me. The visual effects for the fight scenes with him were some of the coolest I’ve seen in the MCU. Marvel tends to play it really safe with their villains, so to see one with a definitively different vibe was pretty cool. The lack of colour in contrast with Thor’s primary colour palette? Amazing. The way the shadow monsters appeared? Amazing. The fight on the asteroid? Amazing. Bale is also just an incredible actor. He brought such balance to the energy that Thor has. I can tell why he was dissatisfied with the final cut of the movie, though. Man was acting his heart out, and you can tell how so much of his performance got snipped.
The end was... disappointing. I went to see it in theatres with some family, and one of them commented that it seemed like the title of the movie got decided before the script was finished. This doesn’t feel far off. I do think it was very sweet that the girl was named Love, and there was a full circle moment with Thor finding something to live for. That said, it did not make sense. I feel that Gor’s wish could’ve been put to a different use, and I don’t entirely understand his motivations for leaving his newly revived kid with a complete stranger that he’d been fighting for an entire movie. Also, what are they going to do with the kid in future instalments? I feel like phase 4 has already gone so off the rails. There are just too many things, too many characters, and I cannot keep up. Actually, and I’ve heard this said before as well, most of phase 4 has felt like feature film filler episodes to set up other characters. At what point do they start indulging the characters that they actually have on screen? Between this and Multiverse of Madness, I am really REALLY exhausted by the format that they’ve got going on. If the next Shang-Chi movie falls victim to this I am going to genuinely lose my mind.
I don’t know if Chris Hemsworth’s contract is up with Marvel or not, but considering the rest of the phase 1 gang are out, I’ll assume so. If he’s not, though, Marvel please for the love of all that is good, stop traumatizing my boy Thor. He doesn’t deserve this. This parallels only Spider-Man at this point. Give him a BREAK.
As a final note, I want to believe the filming of Love and Thunder was Mama Mia-esque in that they were all drunk and having a good time.

What gets me about the queerbaiting accusations with regards to Valkyrie in TLAT is that they never gave anyone a reason to think she would get together with any particular woman, and actually if Valkyrie can be "king," a "queen" doesn't have to mean a woman, but they did repeatedly say from Ragnarok's release through the rest of Phase Three that Valkyrie and Thor were written as a romance, which ended up being sidelined in TLAT. But fans who throw around the word "queerbaiting" do not care that the Black bisexual female lead of the previous film has as of now been denied her love story with the protagonist and was altogether diminished in TLAT for a white straight woman. They also follow the promotion of the film enough to know that Natalie and Taika, both straight, said the film would be gay, but their interest in the WLW character apparently stopped short of paying attention to the bi actress playing her to know that Tessa requested the script be changed because being queer was initially all Valkyrie had in it and Tessa found it dehumanizing.
I had to do some digging for sources for the quotes you're mentioning, and it looks like you might be misremembering what was said back during Phase 3. According to Thor: Ragnarok's writers, Thor and Valkyrie's relationship was written as romantic in the original draft of the script but that subplot was scrapped when the movie was still in development (i.e. probably before casting) because they decided they wanted to focus on Valkyrie as character independent of Thor and didn't want to commit to a romance between them right away. From Thor: Ragnarok writer, Eric Pearson:
“But we didn’t want to start from that place [a romance]. It was like, Let’s give Valkyrie her own story that connects with Thor … and if it makes sense for them to get together, then great. You’ve got two really good-looking people who can fight and who’d probably be [good together] if the story went there, but it just didn’t. It became more about the mutual respect, and also dealing with her PTSD."
[source]
So it seems like it's less that an in-progress romance was removed and more like the door was left open for a romance and they chose not to pick it up (yet?). But I definitely agree that Valkyrie herself was backburnered in favor of Thor and Jane's romance, and I really hated that she got left out of the final battle. She wasn't written as a sidekick in Ragnarok, but I feel like Love and Thunder used her as one. We really didn't need to spend all that time rehashing romantic Thor/Jane. They could have just been two people who were very important to each other but weren't in love anymore. That would have worked just as well, and it would have freed up more time for Valkyrie to have her own character arc.
It seems that you might also be slightly misremembering what Tessa Thompson said about Valkyrie's bisexuality. From her interview with Yahoo:
“We talked about it a lot, it was big topic of conversation, because I think rightfully there’s this real want in audiences to see characters be very clearly queer or LGBTQIA inside these spaces. And I think it’s hugely important to have representation. And also as humans I think that we are not defined by our sexuality, and by who we love. And so sometimes I think to hang a narrative completely on that is a way of actually diminishing the humanity of the character. Because you don’t allow them to be anything else.”
[source]
Unless this is not the interview you're referring to, she never mentions asking for the script to be changed or for anything to be removed. She's just talking about working with Taika Waititi during the writing process to make sure Valkyrie's bisexuality struck the right balance between being visible but not being her whole personality. Crucially, she does outright say that Valkyrie doesn't have a romance, which undercuts the accusations of queerbaiting pretty significantly, so it is clear that no one making those accusations read this interview.
However, I do want to give people the benefit of the doubt in that it's possible they weren't following the promotional material at all and just heard about the "super gay" thing through the grapevine (like I did, lmao). People have been talking about that on this website for weeks. If it makes you feel better (sarcasm), Tessa Thompson also got accused of queerbaiting by one of our anons this morning, so she hasn't been completely ignored.

ok I got around to the cinema tonight and can now do a full review so THOR: LOVE & THUNDER SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!!
first off, let me just say: TAIKA. MOTHERFUCKING. WAITITI. this man has done so much for the Thor movies and has really brought so much richness and colour into the MCU. this movie was equal parts funny and emotional and I had such a blast watching it!!!
I’ve seen a few people say that it doesn’t feel like a cohesive movie narratively and to that I’d say I disagree completely; it’s just not as cohesive within the larger story of the MCU. Personally, I don’t think that takes away from the movie at all!! I never felt like there was something missing, it does a good job at being a very solid standalone movie. Thor as a character has always thrived in his solo movies far more than in the big plans of the MCU, I find. When he gets tossed into a group setting such as the Avengers, he ends up becoming more like the butt of the joke (hence, the offensive fat Thor bit they had in Endgame). I find here, in his solo movies, they maintain that himbo energy while also letting him have depth and be serious when necessary.
There are a few other smaller things to cover before the next big things I want to discuss, such as the POST CREDITS SCENEEEE. As a Ted Lasso super fan, seeing Brett Goldstein as Hercules a) made me scream in my seat, and b) makes SO MUCH SENSE. He’s here, he’s there, he’s every-fucking-where, and Mr. Roy Kent has a growl and bark to him that makes his energy so perfect. AMAZING CASTING!! And now that Cristo Fernandez AKA Dani Rojas was a bartender in the end credit for Spiderman NWH, the Ted Lasso -> MCU pipeline has been created and can only get stronger from here! My heart is bursting at the seams!! Also, round of applause to the screaming goats because that never failed to make me laugh. And no, I’m not just saying that because it was inspired by the Taylor Swift goat parody of I Knew You Were Trouble. And finally, I’d like to shout out Taika for making me fall back in love with Thor and Janes as a couple because this is the movie that really gave us the dynamic and love between them that the others never could. Here, they felt real and earnest and truly connected. The chemistry with Chris and Natalie was very solid and I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m going to miss their relationship a lot!
Now let’s talk about the next big thing: the queer rep. This is where a lot of people are divided, with some saying it was super gay and some saying the representation was underwhelming and disappointing for something that was “marketed as a super gay film”. However, I’m not sure I agree with either of those statements. Was it super gay? No, not at all. There were definitely some much appreciated confirmations of queerness with more than one character I suppose, but none of it felt worthy of it being marketed as extremely gay. That being said, there is a difference between Taika and Tessa calling it super gay and it being specifically marketed as super gay. At no point in any of the interviews or promos did they promise deep and prominent queer exploration. It’s also worth noting that Disney has a lot of control over the story, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Taika had wanted to make it even gayer and the higher-ups had said no. Also keep in mind that there WAS allegedly a version of this movie where Valkyrie’s whole storyline was romantic and she had a love interest, but Tessa didn’t want love to be the center of Valkyrie’s story and wanted a different route, so they rolled with it. So overall, the movie didn’t contain as much queer content as I had anticipated, but I don’t think it was a baiting attempt or a downside to the movie in any way. We got what we got, and even though it wasn’t a gay extravaganza, what we got was very solid.
The part of this movie that shines the most though has to be Christian Bale as Gorr. Not only was he completely fucking terrifying, but he was also, at the same time somehow, a villain I could sympathize with much more than Thanos. This movie was all about love and loss and how they intertwine, and Gorr reflects that just as much as Thor does, though in their separate ways. And let’s just take a minute to appreciate the differences between Gorr and Thanos because!!! hello!!! Thanos kills his own daughter for a goal of his that is purely economic/practical (in his mind) whereas Gorr literally makes a vow to kill every single god in existence just because his god didn’t save his daughter!! That is so beautiful!! And to think that I was more scared of Gorr than I ever was of Thanos, and yet still simultaneously more moved by Gorr. And in the end, he HAS to do the right thing!! His motivations and beliefs REQUIRE it!! If he had used his wish to kill all the gods when he could have used it to bring his daughter back, he would have been willfully refusing to save her and would therefore have been a hypocrite and just like the gods themselves. This movie did a fantastic job of answering the question: what happens when a villain’s motivation is, truly and without falter, love?
Overall, when looking at the bigger picture of the MCU, this movie does not contribute much and probably isn’t the best of the best. But I think I like it better that way??? It’s a movie that shines beautifully on its own, whereas something like Dr Strange MOM (even though it also found its strength in the director’s strong stylistic tone coming through) had its faults even if you did look at it as a standalone movie, which is why this one is just so much more enjoyable. I would rate this movie a solid 8.7/10

Marvel Movie Night: Thor Ragnarök
Tumblr media
*blows dust off movie reviews*
It's been a while! And I stopped just as the movies were starting to really get good. Looking at the list, we're kind of moving into when Marvel hits the heights of its power.
So, I'm going to be honest, I don't have a whole lot to say about this film. It's good. It's solidly good. It's before Taika Waititi goes off the rails a bit, and when the MCU allowed itself to stray a bit from its own convention. It's fun and wacky and stills know when to put in the heart. And as we all know, Thor needed some much needed lightning to really elevate the character, who struggled on his own. It works, I feel like I can't really add to what's already been said a hundred times over.
I'm going to just bullet point the few thoughts that I do have...
Thor and Loki's sibling relationship is really the heart of this one. While Loki can seem to be on his own, I feel like one thing missing from Thor's fourth movie was Loki.
Doctor Strange is fantastic in this movie. I kind of wish we got this version of the character more often.
All the bright colors! It's a nice homage to the drug induced insanity of 70s comics.
Most of the comedy in this film really lands. Though there are a few things, here and there, that don't. I don't think the opening bit is that amusing, but it definitely sets the tone.
There are some really beautiful sequences in here - like Odin's death and the death of the Valkyries. The film is grounded when it needs to be, and that's a nice touch.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Tessa Thompson is great in this film. I don't more to elaborate on, but the character is a good addition.
All the Korg stuff is perfect.
I'm not usually a big Hulk fan, but I think he's used to great affect here. I feel like Marvel should do more team-up movies like this.
Every time Thor brought up his weird dreams, it made me think about how much Age of Ultron was really just a set up movie for this.
I'm a little torn about Hela. Cate Blanchett seems to be enjoying herself a lot, and I appreciate the camp of her not taking herself too seriously. But they really didn't do much with her since she was away from the action for so much of the film. She feels a little flat because of it.
There are a few things that don't quite land - the disposal of the Warriors Three just feels gratuitously mean. Sure, I didn't think they worked in the films either, but I felt like there could have been a more respectful way to send them off. Also, everything with Idris Elba feels like it's from some other fantasy movie.
Jeff Goldblum is a comedic genius. 'Yay, us!'
When Thanos shows up after the credits, it feels uncomfortably dark. It felt a little bittersweet that this is the last Thor and Loki adventure (possibly - it's the MCU so who really knows).
Final Verdict: It's a good film! The one thing I couldn't help feeling when watching this one is how, yes, the MCU does have a bit of same-ness to everything it does. But at least this movie has a ton of fun doing it.
Next Up: Black Panther! For which I have no pity comment.

having now seen Thor: Love and Thunder I gotta say
I respect the people involved in this product for not trying
Like if I were Taika Waititi and had made genuine efforts to create a third Thor movie that was thematically cohesive with the previous Thor movies but also genuinely funny and heartwarming and poignant (for a superhero movie we all know this was not meant to be an arthouse movie or anything)
And then had to watch the Russo brothers shit all over the entire story I told
I too would spend the first quarter of an hour of my movie shitting all over the story they told
Before doing what the fuck ever for another two hours for that sweet Disney money

Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) Review
Tumblr media
Am I the one who thought of that Britain’s Got Talent contestant Stavros Flatley when Russell Crowe popped up in this film? With the accent and the general demeanour? No? Just me? Fair enough.
Plot: Thor's retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who, to Thor's surprise, inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher's vengeance and stop him before it's too late.
Thor: Ragnarök is still to this day my favourite Marvel Cinematic Universe film. It perfectly reinvented the titular character by seamlessly blending Taika Waititi’s energetic comedic timing with the mythology already built by the franchise prior, and truly that movie felt as if it came out straight from a comic book. The many colours and the inclusion Mark Mothersbaugh’s synthetic heavy 80′s techno pimped music score really made this entry a stand-out. So naturally I was looking forward to Thor’s fourth outing, especially since the entire Ragnarök creative team were coming back. Of course there was also concern, as since Avengers: Endgame the MCU has seen a dip in quality, as the lack of narrative direction has made most of the newer films very mediocre at best. But hey, in Taika we believe, so scurried into the cinema I did on opening day, ready for some Thortastic madness! By the way, did anyone know that Ben & Jerry’s now do ice cream shakes at the cinema? B&J SHAKES!? I mean c’mon, I’m trying to budget here and then Ben & Jerry’s come and pull this stunt. They taste rad though, not going to lie. Anyway, with a mighty fine shake in my hand, I sat in the cinema, ready for Thor’s next adventure. What could possibly go wrong?
I’m so glad I had that Ben & Jerry’s shake, at least I got some good out of this cinema outing. It is to my huge disappointment to reveal that Thor: Love and Thunder may just be Taika Waititi’s first real flop. The movie is a rushed mess and a half. It feels similar to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 where Marvel gave James Gunn full creative freedom after he proved himself with the first Guardians film, now Taika to has been given full creative reign and the result is waaaaayyy too many cringey jokes, a lot of which don’t hit, and a very weak narrative plot, especially as the movie rushes through all the events, instead focusing on trying to fit in as may gags and humanly possible.
First and foremost, they dumbed down the character of Thor to the point that we behold a bumbling idiot doing stupid things for the sake of jokes. In Ragnarök, yes Chris Hemsworth lent more into the comedic side of the character, with the innocent child-like outlook on certain things, however he was still cool. He still felt like a Norse god who can kick butt and lead an army. In Love and Thunder however, he is just silly to the point that you don’t see him as the hero anymore. What’s worse is that the movie reminds you of the good times, as there are a couple of dramatic scenes between Thor and Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, where Hemsworth actually shows signs of tender serious emotions, but then within minutes that is lost again in favour of some unfunny gag. And speaking of Portman, her return is actually one of the few highlights. Previously in the franchise Jane Foster didn’t have much purpose other than hey, Thor is a beautiful man, so he needs a beautiful woman to rub his face against. There was no chemistry or care for their relationship. However in Love & Thunder props given where props are due, Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster is utilized really well. Her relationship with Thor felt much more believable, and a certain flashback featuring their love backstory to the accompaniment of ABBA was one of the few successful sparks of humour in the film, and her story in the movie actually tackles some deeper subjects that I do wish were given more time to explore and delve into.
In regards to other characters, there are a few, but again, due to the rushed plot where the movie seems to be racing against time itself, a lot of characters are heavily under-used. Valkyrie and Korg basically serve no purpose, other than the latter over-staying his welcome by cracking eye-rolling jokes. The Guardians of the Galaxy that are heavily featured in the marketing are in the movie for 5 minutes at best, if that. There are also a bunch of cameos throughout, some of which work, others not so much. I do want to talk about Christian Bale though, who plays the villain Gorr. As expected, Bale brings a powerhouse performance filled with gravitas and depth, however one that also has a bit of whimsy to it, and actually he was one of the best parts of the movie. Again though, not used enough. You have an A-list actor like Christian Bale and give him such a short role, that’s naturally disappointing. But in the moments he’s in he does magic. Metaphorically speaking but also physically, as he has this magical death sword which he spews out shadow monsters from. You know, typical evil bad guy shenanigans.
Thor: Love and Thunder comes off as a big fat joke. It’s a self parody of itself essentially, opting to act as a 2 hour long stand-up show, only that the comedian didn’t bring any decent material to the stage. Don’t get me wrong, it has a good few entertaining moments, and visually its good to look at, especially if you want to see Thor’s butt cheeks, but all in all it’s an underwhelming experience. Especially if you’re someone like me who is a big fan of Thor, with not just Ragnarök, but the previous films too. I’m sad to say, no matter how much Guns N’ Roses hits Taika sticks in this film, it doesn’t save it from being nothing more that mediocre and forgettable. Ah heck, at least I had that Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shake. That’s the only thing that’s keeping me going right now.
Overall score: 4/10

You know something ?
When I don’t like a movie, I’m pretty chill about it, i guess.
A few years ago my friend and I were watching a movie so bad we didn’t finish watching it. We’ve had quite a few movie nights and that was the only time we quit watching a movie before the end cus it was so bad .
You know what I didn’t do?
I didn’t go to the writer’s/director’s social media to tell them it sucked.
I didn’t say they should be unemployed bc I didn’t like their movie.
I didn’t say they should be physically harmed bc I didn’t like their movie.
It never even occurred to me to do any of these things.
But these are all things I’ve seen people do to/say about Taika Waititi bc they didn’t like Thor: Love and Thunder .

I think we all should've realized the movie was gonna suck when we found out Ol*via was not only directing but also acting in this movie - biggest red flag
I mean, no lmao obviously there are movies where the actor directed themselves that are bad but there are many that are so good, I would've never thought that this was a bad sign (have seen the movie ((no I didn't pay for it, I watched online)) I'd say olivia's character could've been easily played by anyone else) but it doesn't really bother me that she chose to also be a part of this movie (talking about the dynamics of it, of course, knowing her now, it was fucking annoying watching her lol) but!!! not that you asked me, but here are a few movies that I love that were directed and acted by the same person:
a quiet place (1 & 2) - written, directed and acted by john krasinski (also a thriller and a phenomenal one, especially the first one - it was the first time I cried watching a thriller lol)
cha cha real smooth - written, directed and acted by cooper raiff (this movie is a masterpiece ok, one of the best movies of 2022 and one of the best movies I've seen in a long time, cooper raiff is AMAZING in this one, and so is dakota, seriously it's so beautiful I cried through the whole thing, 10/10 would recommend)
what we do in the shadows and hunt for the wilderpeople - written, directed and acted by taika waititi (I mean, taika acts in all of his movies, but these two are especially good, and were made before taika was a mainstream director, not that I don't like his most recent movies, I just really don't like thor lol)
garden state - written, directed and acted by zach braff (yes florence's boyfriend or ex-boyfriend idk, this movie is LOVELY, it's pure 2000's nostalgia and it's super sweet)
anyway!!! the point is, no one could've guessed that because olivia was also going to act in this movie that it would've become a shitshow

Oh look, ramblings again!
SPOILERS for Thor: Love and Thunder AHEAD!!! Do NOT read if you haven’t seen the movie yet (unless you don’t care about spoilers!)
Last chance to back out... no? Good, happy reading!
First of: it should be mandatory to watch a Taika film at least TWICE before being allowed to form an opinion. There’s always way too much going on to catch it all on one viewing!
That includes myself too.
After my first viewing on Thursday I came out of TLAT with mixed feelings. It felt chaotic and a tad overstuffed, not long enough to squeeze everything in.
Overall I liked it tho, there were bits and pieces that I adored (and yes, the goats are fucking hilarious!!!), but I KNEW I had to see it a second time to form a proper opinion.
(It also didn’t help that the face of the first God that got killed looked soo familiar but I couldn't really sort him! It took me two days to finally find out why - the Taika!Bingo had already been employed. Adorable man can’t stop casting friends for his films *hehe* But you do NOT expect a vampire in a Marvel movie so… (Jonny Brugh aka Deacon from WWDITS, for those curious.)
I loved the cameos even though they were very short but it’s always nice to see familiar faces popping up here and there.
I screamed at the post credit scene because BRETT FUCKING GOLDSTEIN!!!! My Ted Lasso loving heart was in AWE and in shock and I might have yelled at the poor man on Twitter!) I cannot wait to see where they’re going with him - that’s going to be amazing!!
I'm also utterly amazed and slightly shocked that T managed to get as much queer content in it as he dared. (and so far I do NOT see the film being banned in those who banned Lightyear and MOM for much less!!) But then again (as he does) it’s both soo in your face and yet subtle enough to be overlooked, I guess.
Although, he basically put a GAY SEX SCENE into it without anyone batting an eyelid. Sure, it’s between two non-humans but still… maybe that doesn’t count. I don’t know. I just love it.
(and yes, it took me a few hours and the internet’s help to lose my mind over the fact that his partner's name is DWAYNE!!! I mean, WTF?!?!?! I'm curious whether DJ knows about it, and what he’s thinking (here's hope somebody asks him at SDCC, I NEED to know this!!)).
Anyhow, I felt a tad sad that I didn’t immediately loved it. It was good, it was fun but it lacked…something?!
So naturally I went again yesterday, properly rested this time with the intention of just letting it play out and NOT pay special attention to my darling Korg *hehe*
And it helped - a LOT!!!
I loved it.
I loved how he intersected the funny with the heartfelt scenes (still think some could’ve been a tad longer for more impact).
I loved that he didn’t shy away from hitting you hard with death and illness to then lighten it with screaming goats and silly heart eyes and awkward reunions. But there’s love in every single moment: love for family and partners, love for your home and the place that had become home, love for friends and found family. There’s heartache about losing everything and there’s hope for a future that may not be as terrible as one thought.
It’s beautifully quirky and lighthearted yet very profound and underneath it all there’s everything that’s important in life!
So yeah… a very typical Taika Waititi film. NOT a typical Marvel film so I guess that’s where the hate of some for it comes from.
But that the beauty of Taika’s work: you have to pay attention, you have to soak it up to get it. You have to look closer to realize how precious the life is you have, no matter how dark it seems.
I also liked (even though it may sound weird) that Jane died in the end. But she died doing what she loved, she died for the man she loved (and I’m pretty damn sure, had it been the other way around, Thor would have sacrificed himself for her as well). I liked that she said it: what’s the point of living if you suffer in a hospital bed, dying on your own anyways, having loved ones seeing you  like that, or going out with a bang, saving the world and LIVING until the very end! I mean, WOAH, that’s one hell of a statement. (Yes, of course I cried!)
I also loved that for once the villain in the end changed his mind. I mean, how often does that happen??? I loved that he eventually saw that his revenge only caused heartache and pain. So giving his daughter over to the ‘enemy’ to have her being raised by him… well damn, that's quite something.
And yes, naturally I adored Dad!Thor and I'm very curious how they’re going ahead with that!
Do I still think it could’ve been a tad longer to give us a bit more Valkyrie? YES!
Or that I would’ve loved to see those cut appearances everyone was talking about? Absolutely.
(I do NOT need to have EVERYTHING explained to me, like how did Jane get to Asgard or other things that happened off screen - as the man so nicely stated once or twice, sometimes you just have to think for yourself and connect the damn dots!)
But in the end, it was just about the right length, it wasn’t the least bit boring (not even in the first time round), it was entertaining as hell and only the second viewing showed me how much love the man put into it.
Yes, I will want to see all the cut things and the deleted scenes, I wanna know how that 4 hour cut would’ve looked like. But that's mostly because I'm dying to know what his brain cooked up in the very first place!!!
But I also respect the fact that we might never see that. (I want all the bloopers tho!!!)
So yeah, I can’t wait to watch it again, maybe once more in the cinema but definitely at home, with a pause button so I can appreciate all the little things (I LOVED how excited he got when some reporter mentioned that the Kronan God was sitting on a throne of scissors - I missed that the first time around and squealed at the second because THAT’s the kind of thing I expect from him, small things that are not important but still makes his movies so unique and special!!)
I also can’t wait to search for all the kids: I did spy Matewa but not TK, so that’s definitely a fun thing to do once I have that pause button.
So yeah, these are my ramblings. I’m once again very much amazed with this incredible man and his brains, and I hope he doesn’t EVER get encouraged by all the asshole things I keep seeing in his tags - I hope he never reads them (I totally understand why he’s not on Twitter anymore and it takes everything I have to not lash out at some of those hating on him for absolutely no reason. Critique, totally fair, but some of that shit is pure, mean hatred, based on nothing and tagging him with that is just a NO GO. But I know better so I sit on my hands and hope he takes solace in the box office numbers and the fact that his visions are just not for everyone!)
*I* just fell deeper in love with his work, his incredible brain and his way of looking at the world and translating that into compelling movies that help make the real world that bit better! And I’m sooo looking forward what he’ll do next!

Thoughts on Thor: Love and Thunder
Finally got around to Thor: Love and Thunder and I have some notes. As did a lot of people it seems because this feels like a movie made by committee. The tone is all over the place, making it feel like someone insisted on taking two stories that do not mesh and trying to weave them together anyway.
I thought I was in for another technicolor fever dream from infamous madman Taika Waititi. I was, but that dream was bolted to an extremely dark story about the loss of faith in the face of death. As someone who likes BOTH Ragnarok and Dark World, if this was gonna work, it would have worked on me.
I don’t even know how to rate this one. There were things I genuinely liked, even loved. Thor, as always, is a ray of adorable sunshine. I loved the Jane as Thor plot line, for the most part. *sniff* Valkyrie is wonderful, of course, as is Korg. And I didn’t hate Christian Bale or the darker plot line; I just didn’t like it in this movie. The rest of the film is so jokey and silly, but the stakes of the conflict are insanely high, as are the consequences. There are many things to love. The problem is they don’t all go together.
And then there were the things that I genuinely hated.
So I HATE Russell Crowe. I do not have a good reason. There is simply something about his face, voice, and demeanor that brings forth a rush of anger, aggression, and the overwhelming urge to punch him in the face as hard as I can. I cannot explain it, but I have felt this way since I saw him in L.A. Confidential many, many years ago. Since then, I have learned that there is a German word for this impression of someone; backpfeifengesicht, or a face that is crying out for a fist in it. For me, Russell Crowe’s face is BEGGING me to destroy it with bare knuckles. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I spent all of L.A. Confidential distracted by the hostility I couldn’t help but feel toward this actor I’d never seen before. I don’t remember anything that happened in that movie because of the adrenaline pumping through my body in anticipation of a brawl. I have not watched a movie with Russell Crowe in it since L.A. Confidential, in more years than I’m going to admit. I had an epic streak going, but I broke it for Taika. Pfft.
I am not pleased that the movie for which I finally made an exception to the Russell Crowe boycott was as disappointing as Thor: Love and Thunder. And oh so many years later, listening to Russell Crowe do what sounded to me like a stereotypically offensive Italian accent for a Greek god and wasting my time in a largely meaningless plot cul-de-sac, I still want to punch him in the face as hard as I can.
⭐️⭐️ Too much (more than zero) Russell Crowe. Cannot recommend.

they definitely course corrected after the last jedi underperformed, but to a certain degree, i think that was always the plan. if not after tlj, certainly after rise of skywalker, where they were like "we're not doing star wars movies anymore, we're doing tv shows for four year olds". like i said, i think they always intended to do that eventually, it's just that the time table changed.
it's sort of like how, with the mcu, you had a brief phase of experimentation, and i say "experimentation" in the loosest way possible. like, "okay, the james gunn stuff is hot right now. guardians of the galaxy 1 & 2 made a ton of money, so we'll get taika waititi, we'll get chloe zhao" and they did that, they kept what stuck, but they scaled it back to a certain degree after thor ragnarok and ant man because it wasn't making as much money. there's an idea of "get woke, go broke" in these counter-fandom circles, but they're sort of misunderstanding it because this was always the plan, it's just that things are happening at a slightly faster pace.
there's also the larger cultural context – trump lost, there's a democrat in the white house, and people who were really wound up because THERE'S A FRICKIN CHEETO IN THE WHITE HOUSE are calmer now and they're either not as motivated by this stuff or are burnt out on it. like, the media of the trump era, even if you agreed with all of its messaging, was so exhausting and tedious.
i mentioned it before when i went on my rant about the force awakens, but we have these movies to thank for #TheResistance media. i already brought up my issues with the resistance vs the rebel alliance, so i won't waste more time on that, but i can't be emphasized enough how much i think the success of this movie and both sides of the reactions to it are so intertwined with a) the trump year and b) this being released in december 2017, so less than two months after the weinstein and the very beginning of #MeToo. hence why you get something like that vanity fair article. these things don't completely come out of nowhere. there's always a real issue that people are reaching like mrs incredible to make a product seem more meaningful than it actually is.
a lot of the hamfisted half-assed liberal feminist stuff in this movie is just a reaction to "hillary clinton just lost because bros are too toxic to let a woman be president, and that unfortunately informed a whole micro-generation of "feminist" filmmaking. which, a couple of them were good, but a lot of them were really, really bad and shallow and really just came down to being "don't yell at your female boss".

July
(i am 4 months behind, please ignore the spam ...)
Cinema
🌱 The Oak (Le chêne) (dir. Laurent Charbonnier and Michel Seydoux) 🇫🇷
i thought it was going to be a documentary about the ecosystem of an oak ... well it is ... but disney style (and i know it's aim for children but i need the directors to understand that a child is not dumb and can understand why a bird/mouse/... will be sometimes prey and killed by other animals because IT IS HOW NATURE WORKS FOR GOD SAKE !)
🌱 Thor : Love and Thunder (dir. Taika Waititi)
well ... not the best marvel movie that's for sure ... in my personal opinion the worst part of this movie was the screenplay. they had great actors, great chararcters, a lot of background material with all the gods etc... but the 'things' they made with it were not so great ... i don't understand what happened. thor ragnarok was the best thor ever made and now this ? i need some explanations as to what they were trying to do here ...

(a not so great month cinema wise ...)
TV Shows
🌿 Money Heist : Joint Economy Area (종이의 집: 공동경제구역) (dir. Kim Hong-sun) 🇰🇷
first i never watched the original one (or more never finished the 1st season) so i can't compare and won't do it. i watched it like i would watch any other shows, without knowing the end. i have only one thing to say : why the fuck they stopped it mid season i don't understand the 'artistic' choice of only giving us half of the story ?!? and i'm a simple girl. i like rio. and denver. and tokyo. they hot. (and tbh the professor is also super hot)
🌿 Umbrella Academy (season 3)
i have not enjoyed it as much as the other two (maybe we didn't needed a third season ?) stayed for ben and klaus tbh. viktor and allison continous banter gave me a headache ... luther is married. good for him. five needs (deserves) an alternate universe where his sole purpose is to retire. diego and lila are the best parents ever.
🌿 Mystic Popup Bar (쌍갑포차) 🇰🇷
Loved this show. I am always a fan of 1 episode = 1 story (e.g. : Tomorrow, Move to Heaven, ...). All the character are great and I always love a strong and independent female lead.

Others
🍃 Un dimanche matin à Marseille (A Sunday morning in Marseille) [short film] (dir. Mario Fanfani) 🇫🇷
Saw this short film in cinema, before 'The Oak' and it was really good. A slice of life. It always blew my mind how they can tell an entire story in only few minutes.
