Sniffles. Tears stroking down cheeks. Knees tucked into chest. And glossy eyes staring at that one question that seems to knock the air out of my lungs.

I've been stuck with this single question and it's like the words are floating into my heart and wrapping so tightly around the organ. I'm so tired.

And I don't want to do this anymore. My bottom lip trembles as I finally let sobs escape my throat.

"Baby! I'm home!" Hanma exclaims, walking through the front door of my apartment.

"I bought some sushi, ya want some?" His playful voice plays melodies into my ear and I can feel my shoulders slump slightly.

But once I look up at him with tear stained cheeks and abused pink lips trembling, the plastic bag falls to the ground immediately and he's quick to wrap his arms around me and carry me.

His tattooed hands grab onto my thighs to keep me up. My hands instinctively wrap around his neck to keep balance.

I love it when he carries me like this. But unlike other times, I'm not blushing brightly, I'm not looking into his hypnotic eyes, and I'm not laughing when he starts planting kisses on my neck.

"What's wrong doll?" His voice goes an octave lower. His face tilting in the direction mine is in. I move my head to the other side but he follows suit.

His nose bumps against mine and his lips ghost over mine.

"Mmm..." I whimper like a child. That's what I am, a useless child that's struggling in college.

"Baby look at me~"

I feel love. Soft waves caressing my stomach. Butterflies kissing my aching heart with their colorful wings.

My eyes look into his and his now hooded eyes look into mine.

"I don't know what happened," His lips kiss my shoulder, "but," my neck, "whatever it is," my jaw, "isn't worth those tears of yours." He kisses my cheek before putting me down.

My feet land on the rugged floor, punishment cups my jaw and lifts my face up to his.

"My pretty girl~ So pretty when she cries. So pretty f'me." Heat rises up my neck. Sin draws small hearts on my waist.

"So fuckin' pretty..." He whispers as his head dips down and his lips mold against mine.

Slow, sensual, with a sprinkle of playfulness. Hanma isn't a good guy. I know that more than anyone. But he's good to me. He makes me feel so much better even if I'm already having the best day of my life.

He just makes everything better. I won't forget the day we met, when he took me to a nearby noodle restaurant when he found me crying just like this while I was walking back home through the streets of Tokyo.

He knows my favorite food, favorite song, favorite book, favorite painting, favorite subject, favorite plushie, favorite place in the whole world, favorite sleeping position, favorite everything.

He's the first person I go to when anything happens to me. Whether it be good or bad. He's always next to me even when he's so far away.

No, Hanma isn't a good guy. But he loves me.

And the kiss we share now, it whispers promises. Promises of eternal love, happiness, sadness, and comfort.

So much comfort. Punishment slides down to my nape. Lips separating from mine only to tilt his head again and he connects us once again.

I feel so safe.

"I love you."

"I love you too Shu..." I whisper back tiredly.

So, here's something I'm wondering about, and whether it's meaningful or coincidence: The two times we've seen Day be the absolute worst to Night is after his mother lets him down - the first time when she tells Night to talk to Day about signing whatever paperwork Day appears to want nothing to do with and to feel threatened by, and after she tells him that despite his most recent setback, she has to go on a work trip, and also no, she doesn't want him to go to his friend's wedding without her. I have to wonder how much anger specifically at mom he's displacing onto Night, because however angry he is at her, the thought of their relationship being threatened is too terrifying to deal with, so he's not going to really risk it.

Of course, both incidents also involve Day being a passenger in his own car while Night drives, super symbolic of Day's loss of agency, so maybe that's it, instead?
