Thoughts on wtFOCK Season 5

Skam France remains the version of Skam with the best Sana season.

For all its flaws, I didn’t hate this season. Yasmina’s actress plays her in such a way where you still feel for her even when she’s in the wrong and while I don’t much care for the romance, her love interest is still likable. And as much as Luca is a little too horny and doesn’t take things seriously enough I enjoyed her and Yasmina’s friendship.

The big elephant in the room is how...unlikable they made everyone this season. Aaron is ignorant and dumb, even more than in previous seasons. Yasmina’s yelling all the time and if she’s not yelling she’s moping (Which to be fair isn’t exactly new but it isn’t good.). And the girl squad? The girl squad usually aren’t the greatest friends but they’re typically bad friends out of ignorance. Here they’re actively hostile. Which. I get why they’re upset with her, but they took it too far.

Speaking of which, the resolution to things was way too easy. Yasmine makes a Facebook post where she apologizes to them and then Luca shows up with a bike to take her to study with the others? That’s unsatisfying. Say what you want about France sort of portraying Imane as being in the wrong, but at least they let her call out Ingrid’s racism and stick to her guns. Not only that but they also didn’t have anyone from the girl squad slap her and call her a bitch. Yasmina forgave the rest of the girl squad way too easily and for as much as I rag on Druck and Italia for giving too much focus to other characters at least they never disrespected their Sana to the extent that wtFOCK has disrespected Yasmina.

I don’t hate the season, but it’s one of the worst Sana seasons and a disappointing ending to wtFOCK.

Ultimately, I enjoyed wtFOCK for what it is. It’s not the best version of Skam (España my beloved.), but it’s not the worst (OG is the weakest version of Skam and ya’ll overhype it way too much.) either. Overall it’s a pretty solid show. Monday I return to Druck and begin to catch up on the seasons I’d missed during my year long hiatus from Skam.
