i'm honestly PISSED off that the spiderverse added a venom reference. as if trying to shoehorn venom into the mcu in no way home wasn't bad enough.
the appeal of venom is that it ISN'T a cinematic universe. that it stands on its own. the whole premise is "venom without spider man" (hell he doesn't even HAVE the spider symbol on him!) and it works for the better as eddie and venom both have a deeper relationship and individual stories beyond "we both hate spiderman and teamed up to kill him".
cinematic universes are honestly awful imo. they reduce each film to basically a commercial of the next movie instead of trying to tell a story that stands by itself. like the monsterverse where the entire thing that was full of potential just turned into a glorified advertisement for the disappointing "godzilla vs kong". cinematic universes where they try to squeeze in 100 other cameo characters as references to other films. in his own universe, venom gets to shine as a character and a story. in a multiverse, he's just another collectible. he's just another one of hundreds of cameos.
and venom doesn't deserve that kind of treatment, especially from a company that doesn't even own him.
😨
Uhhh, Spiderverse isn't the mcu
Sony owns both Venom and Spiderverse
This... wasn't them shoehorning Venom into the mcu
This was Sony having a little shout out/cameo to one of their other movies. Like how Pixar used to have Easter eggs in their films.
It fit into Spiderverse because it showed all these different versions of these Spiderman characters. The Venom movies are just one version of Venom, that's why it was included
I'm kind of shocked you had such a negative reaction to the cameo with Mrs.Chen
Spiderverse isn't the mcu. The attitude of these movies is completely different.
