went through my marked for later list on ao3 to whittle it down as it’s been 5 years since I last just cleared the history knowing I would never get around to reading all 19 pages anyway, but I didn’t want to do that this time because I have just added a bunch of fics to it and anyway I had 14 pages and now I have 8 and I’m not sure that made any difference actually

#I discovered some interesting things though! #for example: #i added a bunch of Kirk/McCoy fic in 2017 again in 2018 and also like last week #I added one single behemoth of a Kirk/Spock fic in 2018 #twice I went on a spree and added Harold/Finch fics #also at one point I went on a Nicole/Waverley spree #predictably there are a lot of Eddie/venom fics added in 2018 I never got around to #also for some reason I added some fics from a movie called Klaus in 2019 ish and I’m struggling to remember why but I didn’t delete them #also in 2020 there was in Clark/Bruce fic I think because it’s the only one I didn’t get round to back then when I went on a spree #but that’s ok bc I repeated the exercise later and have more #oh and apparently I had another Matt/Foggy obsessive period in January of this year that I’d forgotten happened #win for me as now I have more Matt/foggy fics to read without first having to search for it #also obv some yoi fics from 2017 but I deleted most of them #also a load of good omens fic in 2019 but I deleted it #I also found fics in fandoms I’ve never been in and don’t know so idk why I added them #deleted most but kept a few that looked interesting #loads of Witcher fics in 2020 - deleted them all save for a few #can you imagine if I hadn’t cleared my history in 2916ish I’m not sure what i’d’ve found

Do you, or anyone actually, know where/when the '-bowl' sufix started being used in Fandom? Because I can't find any kind of origin, and surprisingly Fanlore doesn't have a article about it (as far as I checked maybe I didn't search well?). I just found and know that it's used for kinda old and relatively new fandoms, thanks to a two-year-old Reddit post.

For anyone who doesn't get/know about the '-bowl' sufix: is basically an All × One thing. For example, if you encounter 'Dekubowl' this means that Deku, the character, is shipped with everyone or that at least everyone else have a crush with Deku.

I can only think of the 'Super Bowl' (just as one comment in that Reddit post suggest) for its origin, but when we talk about Fandom culture we never know. It could have originated from anything no-related to the Super Bowl, LOL.

Ooh, interesting. I've never heard of this in my life, and I have no idea what a -bowl suffix is supposed to mean, even if I guess it has to do with the super bowl.

It's not surprising Fanlore doesn't have this if it's coming from BNHA or somewhere similar. Fanlore is fantastic on the history of Western "Media Fandom", zines, K/S, etc. It's much weaker in areas that OTW early adopters haven't spent as much time in.

You should write the -bowl article yourself!

I went into AO3's tag search and looked for 'bowl'. I found 1311 tags, 90 of them canonicals.

I'm seeing a ton of references to the Super Bowl, dust bowl AUs, pet play with pet food bowls, Dream in the fishbowl, unending uses like "I'm crying into my bowl of cereal as I write this", "bowl of honey nut feelios", "bowl of pornflakes", "me shaking the food bowl of sbi wilbur-centric angst: come get y'all's juice", etc., and plenty of references to YOI katusdon bowls. Lots of fandoms and episodes have 'bowl' in their titles.

Zeroing in on more related things, I'm seeing BNHA over and over and not much else...

EXCEPT!

Fruit bowls!

I see scattered references to "let's add him into that whole fruit bowl" and "the whole fruit bowl is here" and so on. Some of them are crack fic where everyone is a banana, but a lot of them seem to be a metaphor for "everything together".

Okay, I just spent far too much time trying to categorize tags. Out of the 'bowl' ones, about a third appear to be this kind of sense (counting by number of tags, not number of works).

Game of Thrones has a bunch, but they refer (as far as I know) to which characters will hypothetically kill each other and emerge victorious, not to group shipping.

Some tags I found, like 'edelbowl' sounded more like a group ship than an X/everyone. I also found a scattering of tags that were like 'all of them in a bowl together', which is probably related.

But mainly, what I found is that this is from BNHA and it's recent.

The other fandoms where I found it were:

That's giving me a very distinctive picture of a fan who's probably in their 20s or 30s, mostly like anime and some video games, and is not the type that edits Fanlore.

There's nothing actually old here: it's recent anime and stuff that is still a megafandom, like Naruto.

I'm seeing a scattering of 'dekubowl' from 2017 and then other character tags taking off in like 2019. This is definitely a recent trend in terminology, at least on AO3.

Johan groaned in protest the moment you stirred awake. Instinctively, the arm he wound up around your waist tightened its hold. You could hear the tiny whine Johan made at the base of his throat, knowing that he’d have never done it had he been with a conscious mind. But half-asleep, Johan was nowhere near the image of the ferocious guard dog he always posed to be. In fact, you’d say he was closer to a clingy puppy, unwilling to let his main source of comfort and warmth go.

The thought made you smile a little, even if his unconscious needy side proved to be troublesome at times. You remembered there were nights when you had to struggle for escape from his vice grip. Even if you succeeded at that, there’d be no guarantee that other problems won’t follow. Once, you had stayed away from bed for too long, Johan was awakened by the absence of your warmth and began to search around the area for you.

He didn’t let you go for one second even after he found you, half-asleep as he was. When the two of you returned to bed afterwards, his earlier entrapment returned with both his arm and leg, making any other attempt at escaping without waking him a pipe dream.

Outside of that, however, Johan was a perfect angel in his sleep. Long eyelashes accentuating his beautiful features, softer in his sleep. Removing the perpetual glare alone did wonder to endear him to others. Yet, you couldn’t think of a situation where Johan would want to endear himself to anyone. Save for the times when he wanted you to cook his favorites or when he grew jealous of your attention to Eden and Miru.

It was those times that you could feel him being more honest to himself, even if he refused to admit that. Yet, all of it was unnecessary, you could never say no to him. Not when your heart sang for him the way it did every time he was around. You could pretend or try to resist it, but at the end of the day, it was always him that you longed for.

And the longer you looked at him, the less possible it was for you to resist what your heart wanted. Even without trying, his existence alone filled your chest with warmth. The giddiness you got whenever you were around him left you wanting for more, not only to stay in his arms, but to put your lips on him.

His cheeks, his nose, his chin, his jaw, his forehead. You wanted to pepper him in kisses and shower him in unspoken affection. And without any reason against that compulsion, you did just that.

Johan, too, awakened after the barrage of kisses you unleashed on his face. Each and every one you left was gentle, but the touches didn’t go unnoticed by someone who could notice the movement of your body in his sleep.

He groaned at first. Not in protest. But in the huffed way belonged to someone who had yet awakened enough to understand what was going on. And once he did, Johan seized your lips with his own. Perhaps, with more force than necessary.

He rolled you down on your back, greedily taking over your previous task in his own pace. His tongue found yours after a forceful entrance, but you couldn’t find it in yourself to care. Not when he made that delightful moan against your mouth after your hand wrapped around his neck to keep him even closer.

And it’d be long after when you let go of him.

“Now that’s one way to wake up,” despite the slight hint of smile on his lips, his breath was ragged.

His mushed hair and flushed cheeks left him an adorable mess, but you guessed that you were no faring no better than him from the affection in his eyes when he gazed down at you. With the last bit of your energy, you lifted your head up to kiss him on the nose. And that alone had Johan collapsed down on you, his own battery spent.

“Mhm, let’s stay in today,” Johan mumbled, “it’s not like we have anything on our agenda anyway.”

At first, you wanted to protest against the idea of an entire day doing nothing. Yet, thinking back about all that he had been doing the past few weeks, you couldn’t help but wanting him to indulge in some resting time, and maybe more if possible.

“Yeah, let’s.”

After all, the world would still be out there by the time the two of you are ready to tackle it again.

The Sleeping Horror of Whiskerford by Eltea -- FMA -- 3.5k words -- another modern AU, in which the gang (Ed, Al, Winry, Riza, Roy, Hughes) plays D&D. Worth it for Ed’s character sheet alone, but overall just a hilarious & fun time.

I actually really mostly liked this for Stiles’ single parent struggles and (platonic) relationship with the baby’s birth mother, the werewolf stuff & romance was cute but mostly incidental.

Hot Springs and New Beginnings by CorundumBleu -- Hollow Knight -- 3k words -- in a good ending universe, Quirrel, the Knight, and The Last Stag relax at a hot springs and discuss hopes for the future. I recommend looking through CorundumBleu’s other HK fics as well -- there’s a couple other good fluff fics in there and some most angsty but still amazing stories! (I’m biased: CB is my sister & I helped edit these, but still, I think they’re great!)

Sufficient by atheilen -- The Goblin Emperor -- 2k words -- deaged!Maia; in which everyone and particularly Beshelar shows how much they care for and cherish Maia.

Thrilling Night! Romantic Adventure at the Video Rental Store! by Masu_Trout --  Undertale -- 2.5k words -- wonderful Outsider POV of an employee at a video rental store who gets the admittedly uncertain priviledge of helping Alphys and Undyne pick out a movie to rent for their date night. I’m still not over the movie they end up picking, OMG.

Searching the web for ISU documents is such a pain in the ass when the events you want to use for your fic have taken place seven years ago and some links no longer work. So far, I've found everything I need, but it took like ages, as of course, I want to use the real venues.

Also, unlike in YOI, where dates and locations are all over the place to the point that they don't match at all (and I've been willfully ignoring that for my novelisation), I stick to the irl events for the sequels because I prefer consistence.

While reading my outline of "In Love and War", I've noticed that last year, I did only half of the research I need for the Grand Prix Series as I was too focused on creating programmes for all the characters and plan which character skates at which event and how they score including the GPF placings. I'm so glad, I've noticed my sloppiness now because I'm so loath to bother about research in November.

Having a party held to have fun, music then blasted from the speakers, voices of the Whitebeard Pirates filling the Moby Dick with noise.

“Marco, can ya press 11419 for me? I'm gonna sing, hehe!” Thatch exclaims with a big smile on his face as he held the mic in his hand while the phoenix did what he ordered.

��Alright, here's "I Was Made For Lovin’ You" by KISS, now get into singing, yoi!” Cheering for his friend, Marco then grabbed himself a pint of beer, waiting for the song to begin as he sat beside you and Thatch who vibed with the background music.

“Wait,” You suddenly mutter, eyes squinting to read the song title flashed on the screen. “..I Was Made For Lovin’ You.” You read, soon later being struck by a realization.

“Holy shit, Thatch... That song...” Looking at him with eyes filled with shock, you then looked around, searching for your lover, Ace, who doesn't seem to be anywhere near the karaoke.

“Okay, it's not too late, stop the song now, please...” You plead, only to be shrugged off by the man beside you who already started singing. “No thanks, I'm singing, hehe!”

“...Mmm, yeah! Tonight, I want to give it all to you~” He sung, ignoring you completely, just grooving with the music, causing you to face palm, knowing what's gonna happen soon later...

“In the darkness, there's so much I want to do..” Cheers surfacing by the man's singing, you slowly shook your head. “And tonight, I want to lay it at your feet..~”

And just as you expected. He's already here. The second division captain is here. Ace, your lover is. He's practically zooming towards you three upon hearing the familiar song on the other side of the ship.

“Ah, Ace, hey—HEY THE MIC!” Thatch exclaims as soon as the mic in his hand disappeared, being snatched by the raven-haired male that took a deep breath, looking at you with a big grin in his face.

He's serenading you, and it honestly is lovely, yet embarrassing—obvious from your face that flushed red all over. Though you admit, Ace does have a great voice.

“Tonight, I want to see it in your eyes,” Making your hand touch his chest, Ace then smirked. “Feel the magic, there's something that drives me wild...”

“And tonight, we're gonna make it all come true,” Tapping his feet on beat, Ace jumped up the stage, lifting you up as if you were air and making you stand by him as he sung.

“'Cause girl, you were made for me, and girl, I was made for you...~” Placing a quick kiss on your lips, Ace smiled, making you feel the music flow through along with the heat of his kiss that lingered on your lips.

Hi.

So I just realized that I have been in various fandom for such a long time (i mean, not really, but it feels LONG). So with this post, I would like to deliver my gratitude towards all fanfic writers whose stories help sustain me throughout the years.

I am not an overly active person. In reading sites (ff net and ao3) you’ll rarely see me comment on stories (i know its not good, i try to leave at least a ❤️ when i can no longer give kudos, like, or bookmark,, don’t hate me pls). Writers often say (write?) to interact with them on various platforms, but i am an over-thinker with an overly suspicious personality; i want to interact but i will overthink all my interactions and will probably leave you on read for months and be overly guilty about it but still not gonna do anything about it.

Today i scroll through my ffnet acc, and was reminded of the thrill i felt when i first read interesting fics on that site (which later on introduced me to ao3) and I could think help but feel very nostalgic. Sadly some of the fanfic i mention is no longer available.

My first venture into the fanfiction zone is through the naruto fanfics. My highschool friend introduced me to fanfiction (and also bl in general), and i was hooked. And my first ever fanfic was ‘Hate’ by RenAfri (it’s in Indonesian, so if you can read it, go ahead). And then i was enchanted by ‘The guardian of the Moon’ by nateulm. (God i got so emotional just thinking of that story), next one is Shizuka na sonata by Paradoxical Pardigm ( i have to search google for this one because I cannot find it anymore and i did not remember the name, only the story) and shizuka na sonata was the story that introduced me to the pain of reading an incomplete story (i still love it very much and i thank you paradoxical paradigm for creating the beautiful story). After those, i browse the site for anything to devour,, and by chance stumbled upon many great stories by legends such as EmptySurface (i really love most(? I think I haven’t read all) their naruto and harry potter fics, thicker than blood is by far my favorite), and Cywsaphyre (the lives worth saving is *mmm chef’s kiss*; also wandererr). I found out i kinda like hp crossover with any fandom and fell into that rabbit hole for a while. Ridell Lee introduced me into Merlin by ‘Only A Boy’, Cosette-aimee’s a necessary gift is an absolute delight to read, brainthief’s 0800-rent-a-hero was a mind changing experience for me back then who worshipped the ground albus dumbledore walk on, seito’s basically all khr and yoi fics are like water after a long draught (a real life cinnamon roll series, we weren’t born to follow, to the beat of my own drum, if there’s a song in your heart-and consequently to the song as well), heir to the sky’s the rightful sky is what introduced me into khr, (i read the fic bfore i knew khr), fruitpastilles’ to live and breathe and live again and the summoning pact is something i didnt know i needed, metamorcy’s various fics of various fandom, ( contract, basically all khr fics because that’s what i was there for), SkyGem’s stories are wondrous (YOI retirement aus, every little thing, they call me freedom), blackkat’s rarepairs which are addicting (their stories are what made me so into madatobi, criminals do it better series, the last immortal is dead and gold series, as is the sea marvellous, backslide, basically all naruto fic actually) raendown’s soulmate story collection is especially sublime (not that their other fics are not!), what you knead by agentmarkele is a heartwarming entity that lives free in my brain, and MadMothMadame’s tobirama centric fics that brought me to tears. In the chinese danmei fandom I breathe in Sami’s and the same moon shines universe (including ridiculous future bullshit and other related verses; *adored* the juniors and jin chan’s dinamic there), trippednfell’s wangxian amazing, heartwarming, and relatable fics (i keep where’s your emergency open in my browser so i can bounce back and have my fill of goodness every once in a while), and many other lovely stories and authors i cannot possibly mention.

This post was meant to be some sort of thank you to all these writers, who have brought so much joy (and not so little tears) into my bleak life. I don’t think i would be the person i am today if i do not read your stories. And maybe this post will not reach you, and i am so sorry for that.

Okay Yuri On Ice Fandom I need some help

Back in ol' 2017 I didn't have a tumblr BUT I did view stuff on tumblr

There was this one comic and I think there was a fic (and I don't remember which came first) but basically it was inspired off of how JJ saw Yuuri during his breakdown scene? Like, "what if this is why JJ sees Yuuri like that" and basically it was Viktor and Yuuri making out in the bathroom, JJ walking in on them, Yuuri making eye contact, and JJ walking out.

I know I didn't just dream this but I cannot find it again and really wish I could. If any of y'all got any idea what I'm talking about please help

Can you please help me find a fic where Yuuri "dies" he falls off that bridge in Russia but wakes up alive in an alt universe? Where he and Victor aren't together. He still has dreams though about his original victor who is mourning him and they manage to talk to each other there. Victor tells Yuuri to find happiness in his new life and asks him to seek out new Victor so that they can be happy together.

I was just reading this victuuri Soulmate!AU fic, where the things you write on your body appear on your skin and it was cute and adorable and it melted my heart.

And they are really the air I live off and I’ve read a dozen of those, and I would like to make it very clear that I adore everything about them!

But one thing that sort of bothers me in all of them I’ve read so far is that Yuuri (or Yuko) always immediately recognises the squiggles (and yes, I call them squiggles because they bloody well are) as Russian, and for some reason that just seems quite unlikely to me. 

Not because Yuuri wouldn’t recognise the Cyrillic alphabet, he’s seen enough banners in arenas in most of these fics to be able to do that. But because I doubt he has ever seen any Cyrillic cursive in his life and, well as this picture I got off the internet explains oh so well:

I just always imagine him looking at the squiggles and being like “What the actual hell?” And then he looks at Yuko, and she’s just standing there and examining it and then shrugs, as if saying “fuck if I know?”

And then Yuuri looking for any possible explanation, and googling if it even is a language? Are these words? And then he stumbles over a hate post on Russian cursive and he goes like... wait a minute?

The elders were so sure that your kind didn’t exist anymore. But I always believed! I never stopped believing.”

Eros glanced away, eyes searching out over the night-blackened water. “You make it sound like a fairy tale.”

YOI Victuuri Fic Search

I read a YOI Victuuri fic on AO3 recently in which soulmates could write on their skin to communicate with each other. In it, Victor and Yuuri were pretty rude to each other in communicating this way. In the scene I remember, Victor makes a comment about his soulmate drawing a dick on his forehead, and Yuuri comments that it was worth it, even though he too had to walk around with the “art” he drew on his skin.

Does anyone know which fic this is and who wrote it?
