One of the four Saxon Mass-clocks on the South side of St Andrews Church in the village of Edburton in Sussex Mass-clocks are vertical sun-dials and were used to mark the times of services and for secular purposes.
A metal rod, known as a gnomon, protruded from the hole casting a shadow upon the sun-dial.
