Your First Visit with a Pediatric Dentist.
Pediatric dentists know how important it is for children to visit a dentist when they first see them. The impressions we make on the world are a big part of how we see it. This is why this first visit is so important.
According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), we recommend that children visit their dentist as soon as they are able. It is possible to keep children cavity-free if you take the correct approach.
The first time your child visits us should be fun. Avoid using any words or phrases that may make the child uneasy. You can use the following words: needle, shot, drill or sharp. Professionally trained, our team communicates the same message with words and actions that children can understand.
One of the most important things to do when you arrive at the clinic is to have a talk with your child’s dentist. This will enable you and them discuss your goals, answer questions, and address any concerns.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Talk should be age-appropriate, as well as as as broad as possible. If the child comes to the clinic with more questions, we are happy to help them. Positive language is important to help your child feel more excited about going to the clinic. If parents are interested in sharing strategies, we have many that they can use with them.
Pediatric dentist visits never begin once patients have walked through our doors. Children have too many questions to be satisfied with this. Children are able to ask a lot of questions. This is because they learn more and are less likely to be afraid of their dentist. The same goes for parents. We strongly recommend that they have a talk at home with their children before bringing them into the clinic.
If a child has an excellent first experience with the dentist, it will make them frequent visits to that office for their entire lives, which will result in great oral health. If we don't create great memories, they may struggle to remember for many years. Our research has shown that the majority of people who don't see the dentist regularly aren't doing so because they have had a bad experience in childhood.
HAPPY PARENTS
Two dental cleanings are recommended each year. By doing this, our dentists are able to take a conservative approach to avoiding cavities and early detection of problems. It is easier to have healthy habits.
Your child's health is important. You will schedule another appointment in six months. You will be given recommendations by your dentist and able to schedule an appointment for a follow up visit if anything is discovered.
In addition to preventive measures, parents may also encourage their children to practice good oral hygiene habits by wiping their teeth with water and a soft cloth. Even if their baby gets infected by oral bacteria, it doesn't necessarily mean that they will be colonized immediately.
In general, children don't learn to brush properly until the age of 7 or until they have learned how to sweep and clean a floor. It's a good idea to continue helping your child brush his teeth.
