i am a fujoshi veteran, who retired from the task force some time ago for other horizons, but i just finally watched “Mignon” last night. i had been following the artist on tweeter for months. And I must say…all them people need an oscar and a grammy. The cinnamon toggle fee of it all. This, is cinema. This, is peak, if you will. i rarely consume things that garner Fandoms™️ anymore (hell i rarely consume anything but food lol) BUT the last two things i took a chance on, pretty good i must say (the other thing is Class of 09 lol). i’m extremely selective…and yet again, it paid off. it’s impressive that it avoided the needless bloat and excessive runtime that is typical of big production studios too, but it is indie after all. we support the underground, whether its rappers or ps1 horror games or korean yaoi fangirls. fujoids up ten points lol go watch it.

Omg that Death Note fanart took me back—it rly is sad his sister is not much of a presence in the story but it’s sooooo striking that the one time he has a real genuine emotional reaction to something is about her being in danger like hello………I always found it such a fascinating and weirdly not talked about aspect of it

if i i had a nickel for every time there was a highly intelligent loner anime male main character, intent on bettering the world for the sake of his sister and "discovers" a life-changing ability, voiced by mamoru miyano, i'd have 2 nickels. which isn't a lot but golly it's interesting it happened twice... that i know of!

yeah it's been pretty much decades since i watched death note so i dont remember light's sister at all, but i think, even if it's a bit disingenuous, the fact he did say he wanted to make a better world for her, was pretty cute!! (at least i thought he said that) i didnt watch past a certain someone's death so i dont think i remember sayu's kidnapping but wow, i'm glad light still showed he cared about her.

Random but prominent thought; Whiteness toys with the idea of equality and that there are no issues within adopted and non blood family, but ultimately, colonisation demands blood quantum and eugenics. Whiteness takes pride in blood and biological ties, and that's something a lot of people are disingenuous about. Now couple that with the fact that outside of religion, white people in the West do not typically curate community well then how are you creating communities of non blooded people who you treat with dignity and respect? You don't. This is all facets of whiteness, to be honest. To be white is to be an individual, imo and in that individualism, you build relationships based on proximity and nothing more. Now, this isn't because white people can't build community, they can and have but historically most of the community built by white people has been on the backs of colonialism and comparison (we're not like them) so now in a crisis of culture and community where do white people go? Adoption interests me here as does surrogacy because I think whilst I knew alot of individuals adopted by white families, I knew more people who were in close community with poc and not adopted but treated like family. Even the white adopted and long term fostered kids weren't treated like proper family to me growing up, by their white families. And that's stuck with me alot as the grandchild of a woman who'd took in so many of her nieces, nephews and cousins and raised them alongside my mother. Hmmmm food for thought....

wakanda forever would have been immeasurably better if it had just cut the namor plot entirely and focused entirely on the dynamics of the characters navigating the grief of losing t’challa. the cast is fuckin STACKED with actors who we’ve seen in other roles giving rich, nuanced performances, and we didn’t get to see nearly enough of that here. what we did see was genuinely fantastic, and i wanted more of that and less of marvel’s signature Messily Choreographed Battle Scenes That Last Way Too Long.

idgaf about Phases and shit, Kevin’s Grand Design can take a seat for a fuckin second and just let people have a space to deal with a very real loss instead of prioritizing setting up the next seven movies and five disney plus shows.

and even with all the Plot it still felt transitional, like a prologue to future stories rather than a complete story in itself. it didn’t move the Plot forward all that much. better to have just let this movie be a moment to breathe and reflect and grow, without also being weighed down by being A Marvel Movie and all the shit that comes with that

the namor plot wasn’t even bad. the production design of talokan was cool as fuck. tenoch huerta’s performance was very good and his shorts were very small. no notes there. it just would have been better in another movie or show or whatever where it was given the space it needed to be explored with more depth (haha you know like the ocean? cause that’s where they live? under the ocean?)

all that said it’s still head and shoulders above basically everything else marvel puts out

can’t say i’d recommend seeing it in theaters because it kinda sucks to sit for nearly 3 hours in an dark room wearing an elastomeric respirator and not be able to have a soda and a little snack. but, to quote the cdc, do whatever the fuck you want.
