Hello! Welcome to my portal to infinity.
This started out as a fan blog. (I discovered Doctor Who via Tumblr) Love reading, love laughing. Love Islam. Might quit this app later to focus on studying the religion.
I prefer Paul kidby too, though. To restore the balance, here's some of his cover art:
I just like this wayyy more sorry not sorry.
talkijg about the discworld illustrators is so stressful cause theres one named josh kirby who is awesome and one named paul kidby who i hate and kirby and kidby are only different by 1 letter and josh and paul are both really generic 4 letter names so i have to do a ton of mental calculus before mentioning either of them to make sure im thinking of the right one and not mixing up their names
Expanding a thought from a conversation this morning:
In general, I think "Is X out-of-character?" is not a terribly useful question for a writer. It shuts down possibility, and interesting directions you could take a character.
A better question, I believe, is "What would it take for Character to do X?" What extremity would she find herself in, where X starts to look like a good idea? What loyalties or fears leave him with X as his only option? THAT'S where a potentially interesting story lies.
In practice, I find that you can often justify much more from a character than you initially dreamed you could: some of my best stories come from "What might drive Character to do [thing he would never do]?" As long as you make it clear to the reader what the hell pushed your character to this point, you've got the seed of a compelling story on your hands.
we have a lot of fun here on tumblr dot com slash merrygejelh, but this one is a genuine inquiry that might prove vital to my bachelor's thesis on fandom culture's impact on Doctor Who:
If you or someone you know has Doctor Who fanfiction written before 1990, it would mean the world if you could send it to me. Literally any fanfiction, no matter the form, length, content, whatever. You can email me at [email protected]. Any archival details (author, date of publication, zine, place of origin) are appreciated.
You shouldn’t date or become serious friends/partners with someone if you can’t stomach the thought of being stuck in a car or train with them for 16 hours.
