MO DAO ZU SHI SNIPPET
PROMPT:. Choose three words to write a sad story. - He was alive.
PAIRING:. Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian
WORDS:. 316
RATING:. General Audiences.
He stood in front of the open window.
The moon was full and bright as snow began to fall.
It was on days like these, he found himself unable to sleep, exiled and alone with nowhere to turn.
Everything around him was lifeless and cold, but the tears in his eyes were warm and tangible.
We were two flowers rooted in separate gardens, but somehow, your roots have grown enough to reach me.
I miss you.
I miss watching your eyes flutter while you sleep. I miss listening to your heart beat while lying on your chest.
I miss seeing the stars sparkling in your eyes. I miss your smile, which warmed me like the strongest ray of sunshine.
I miss your laugh, which was capable of dissolving the most terrible storm. I miss the way your body tightly wrapped around mine, knees bent under mine, chest curled around my back.
I miss the way your scratchy lips rushed against my shoulder, nose tickling my neck.
I miss you so much, that it pains me that I can no longer reach you, not from where I am.
Who am I without this sadness? Without the desire to become one with the earth, or evaporate into the stars.
We were designed to love.
My fingers were made to curl around yours and my arms, were made to hold your body against mine.
It was supposed to be a primary function; cardinal, dominant, elemental.
I'll never find another you, the one that  immortalizes me; the one who questioned distances, longings, heartbreaks and my pure sense of existence.
It was on nights like these, that a tribe of mutilated words looked for refuge in his throat.
Words he could no longer speak.
The tremors in his hands and the violent beats inside his chest reminded him every now and then, that the one he loved was gone, but he himself, was still alive.

PROMPT:. Hanahaki Disease. - Mo Dao Zu Shi Ficlet.
Short snippet with a bittersweet ending.
PAIRING:. Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian
WORDS:. 597
RATING:. Mature. (Mentions of death/Blood)
Suffocate me, so the flowers can grow back again.
Everyone expected it; that friends to lovers kind of moment.
Fresh and early mornings loaded with laughter, stupid nicknames and soft teasing.
Wei Wuxian looked at him across the table, wishing he could simply reach out his hand and run it through his hair.
Ease. Simple. Good and right.
He didn't know how or why, the only thing he knew was the feeling, born of one too many afternoon conversations between light brush strokes and the smell of ink, smudged across blank pages, which were the only witnesses of the imaginary blades piercing through his heart.
Breathing in short bursts, he hid his heart in his sleeves.
It was meant to be, right from the start. Youth, freedom, love at first sight; whispered in the empty library in broad daylight, in the form of spring rains and blue peonies.
Coughing out his love, he indulged himself in a basket full of fresh, blood-smeared flowers.
Copying rules under candlelights and writing out his feelings over dried pale petals.
He tried to hide it, but he was sure Lan Wangji had noticed when his coughing fits started to become more frequent.
Wei Wuxian knew he could smell the sweetness in his breath. He had dared to hope for a second that he was going to notice, that those flowers were for him, blooming inside his lungs and painting his heart in bloody letters of Lan Wangji's name.
But he disregarded the thought.
That love was unrequited.
A love that was slowly killing him, one ragged breath at a time.
He knew he could remove the infection through surgery, but a world without those feelings, was simply... Unimaginable.
It hurts to love you, but I would love you nonetheless.
It started at night.
It was awkward at first.
Lan Wangji could feel a strange sweet taste overflowing his tongue. Rich and soft like summer grass and white dandelions.
Filling his chest with the senses of spring and red carnations. Scarlet like the sun that’s been branded on his skin.
Another itch made its way deep within his chest, the ever growing love rooting bouquets in his throat.
The coughing had gotten much worse since he'd been gone.
It wasn't just petals anymore, but stems and thorns as well.
Some were wild, wrapping their way towards his veins. And some were soft, graceful, living in longing, in fire and regret.
There's nothing gentle left, not when home becomes a place where you can't remember happiness anymore
Lan Wangji felt and welcomed the sweet warmth of death. The same dominant death that took the man he loved from him.
If he knew...
He knew he could remove the infection through surgery, but forgetting the sun... It wasn't an option.
Nothing wove a more enticing story than sacrifice, after all.
He could see the faint glimpse of blackness through his unwavering eyes. And then, he was surrounded by wings.
Waking up in a meadow warmed by golden light, he breathed in the scents of cinnamon and black orchids, that were so familiar from his childhood.
He wasn't broken no more.
Because the love of his life was holding both arms out before him, open arms full of heart, soul and truth. Arms full of love.
There's no more pain while he is in Wei Wuxian’s arms. Not from his broken heart or his bleeding back or his flower filled lungs. He can finally breathe again and he takes the chance to fill his lungs with the sweets and spices and dried blood smell that Wei Wuxian carries with him.
He was finally happy.

My plan was to draw this mask for one of my Wei Wuxian sketches, but now, after really looking at it, I think I’m gonna do another, this one probably won’t suit him. What do you think?

"You're special—I like you."
"In other words: I'm interested in you, I love you, I want you, I can't leave you, I whatever you."
"I want to night-hunt with you for the rest of my life."
"I also want to sleep with you every single day. I swear that it's not the heat of the moment or joking around like I've done in the past, much less doing it out of gratitude. In short, it's not because of anything else—I just like you to the point of wanting to sleep with you. I don't want anyone but you—it has to be you. You can do anything you want to me, and I'd like whichever way you want it, as long as you're willing to..."
Lan Wangji was panting, his breathing rhythm in a mess and his hoarse voice rang out next to Wei Wuxian’s ear, “…Interested in you…”
Wei Wuxian hugged back tightly and responded, “Yes!”
Lan Wangji continued, “…Love you, want you…”
Wei Wuxian raised his volume, “Yes!”
Lan Wangji repeated, “Unable to leave you… Unless it’s you, I don’t want anyone else… it has to be you!”
—Wei WuXian and Lan Wangji Confession, Chapter 100
Happy Valentine's Day. ♥️
