Meet Artist @PJPIII <—Follow
The 1st place winner of the New You art competition hosted by @startshows.
@PJPIII is a self-taught artist who uses acrylic, pastel and spray paint as artistic mediums.
After almost dying from a traumatic brain injury due to Long Covid, PJPIII started to use painting as an escape from severe mental anguish. He left the company he founded and began to heal through the graces of a newly discovered calling, art.
His obsession with exploring the intersection between subconscious and consciousness is insatiable. Through strokes, emotions, sickness and health the belief that art can transform the way we see the world is dominant.
PJPIII’s work centers around abstract and figurative elements that do not succumb to rules. This allows for a greater range of expression and can evoke a more intuitive response in the viewer. The ultimate goal is to develop art that triggers the end users imagination, giving them a deeper sense of meaning, and encourages the notion of how life can be different through creation and discovery of self.

20% of the profits of each art piece sold will be donated towards making the world a better place. For every original purchased, a tree will be planted to offset carbon emissions.

Meet Artist @Kamilafreitas.art <—Follow
The 2nd place winner of the New You art competition hosted by @startshows.
Kamila Freitas graduated as a biologist in 2014 from the Federal University of Vales do Jequitinhonha e Mucuri (UFVJM) in Minas Gerais, Brazil, specializing in Management, Auditing, and Environmental licensing. In 2017, she completed an interdisciplinary master's degree in Health, Society, and Environment concomitantly specializing as an Agricultural technician.
Her entire academic career focused on the ecology of small mammals, reptiles, and environmental education. She also worked as a taxidermist.
In 2019 she moved to New York where she has lived ever since. In 2020, faced with panic disorders and away from her family, she started painting as a hobby, using acrylic spill techniques. This became a refuge from her panic syndrome. Abstract art and acrylic flow enabled her to experiment with color, movement, surfaces, and ink flow which made unpredictable results.
“Raizes” became her first collective art exhibition in her hometown of Diamantina, in January 2022. Through bright colors and strong distorted lines, her family origins were evident in each art piece. She held her first international exhibition at the Polish & Slavic Center, an event sponsored by the Polish Consulate in NY, where her art called attention to the biggest environmental and human disaster in the history of Brazil with the rupture of iron mining dams in 2015 and 2019.
Art softens her pain and suffering adapting to a new world where most times she feels confused and reflective. She has been experimenting with several different techniques and styles as a way of challenging herself. Her “Novo Eu” theme aims to seek new things that warm her heart. It’s continuous change in search of something unknown.

Meet Artist  @jayjansen22 <—Follow
The 3rd place winner of the New You art competition hosted by @startshows.
JAY JANSEN is a sculptor from Seattle who is currently based in New York. By using found objects and discarded materials, Jay’s artistic intention is to draw the viewer close and activate all senses.
Her art exudes the notion of turning the unlikely into the unforeseen. Things like drain hair transformed into a beautiful pantsuit boggles the mind. Is it gross or is it stunning? Hopefully, all of the above.
How about 900 Fish Oil Pills glistening under the sunlight, but as one gets closer, the fish aroma ascends, dazzling the eyes and accosting the nose.
Try 100 Hairballs which is a series made of brushed cat hair formed into spheres to mimic hairballs, which in turn, finds humor in a new form.
Natural materials have always caught her attention like stones from the beaches of the Pacific Northwest, aligned by the inherent line made from sediment to create a wishing rock. This evolved into a 30-piece series consisting of 370 stones called “Wishing for a …” Each piece brings a new wish to the world.
Continuously hunting for treasured materials to question our reality of worthiness is always the goal and is the driving force behind Jay Jansen’s artworks.

📢 Introducing the 2nd place winner of the Museum of Now art competition
@annettebackfineart <—-follow
Website: annettebackfineart.com
Bio: “Expressing myself visually has always been a part of me. My childhood temperament was shy, verbal communication did not come easy and I was usually careful to speak my mind. I credit this mindset with honing my observational skills and looking at the many layers of a given situation.
When creating art, expression can be deliberate, thoughtful, and meaningful. The paintings tell a story and evoke emotions. Interpretation of the subject is achieved by transferring photos and text on a first layer, then adding more layers of transparent or opaque colors, lines, shapes, and textures. A variety of techniques and interesting color combinations are used to achieve my vision. Inspiration comes from memories, experiences, and current events.
While I am fearlessly using a conceptual, bold, and colorful approach, I also have a visual conversation with the viewer and make connections.”

📢 Introducing the 3rd place winner of the Museum of Now art competition @zumbambico 👈🏾 follow
Website URL: zumbambicoarte.com
Bio: “I was born in Cali, a city in Colombia, framed by a chain of green mountains and blue skies. As a child, my grandpa used to call me Zumbambico and I stuck to this nickname to sign my art.
Since a very early age, art became my main healing tool and the language I use to communicate with myself and those around me. I approach my craft in a very intuitive way, as every piece works as a ritual that allows me to release, give voice to my emotions, and transform them into something new. Consequently, process plays an essential role in my work. This is the moment when catharsis happens and I can simply be.
Coming from a society where both beauty and behavioral standards are imposed on women on a daily basis, my interest is to portray beings freed from these pressures and in full communion with their bodies and inner worlds.
My work has been exhibited in collective exhibitions in Bogotá, Barcelona, Lisbon, New York, and Rio de Janeiro. In 2019, I had my first solo show “Inner Landscapes” at Hae (Maastricht, The Netherlands), and in 2022, I exhibited my art at WALTZ, an event created in collaboration with poet Joshua Burton (Houston, TX).”
