“nightheart’s misogyny isn’t unique so i don’t get what the outrage is about” have you considered that maybe it’s outrageous because of how long it’s been going on especially since the fandom most of the fandom doesn’t address misogyny most of the time unless a youtuber with a wide outreach talks about it (people didn’t realize how much bramblestar sucked ass until moonkitti made a video about it and even then i still see takes like “oh he was a good character until squirrelflight’s hope” despite how a lot of the flaws in his writing have been present since tnp. i still don’t see many people talk about how characters like sparkpelt and needleclaw are only relevant as props in their brothers arcs despite the fact there is plently of potential for individual character explorations in their own right, sparkpelt’s relationship with resembling the most famous man in the world, needleclaw being named after her mother’s dead friend being halfclan and not possessing the abilities typical to her bloodline etc) and also because misogyny, even if it’s in “small” amounts, is something worth getting angry and talking about as opposed to just shrugging it off and assesing it as “well this is just the usual, guess there’s no point in anything other than accepting its being there”

Better reasons that all the scarred cats are named like that
Casually making scars, injuries, and congenital abnormalities points of pride in the WC universe by changing the reasons they have those names
Crookedstar
After breaking his jaw, Rainflower refused to feed him. Between the neglect and the injury, the clan did not expect him to heal, let alone make it to his warrior name ceremony. Stormpaw surviving his kithood and his apprenticeship was a sign of strength, resourcefulness, and blessing from StarClan. His warrior name, Crookedjaw, is a mark of pride.
Deadfoot
Born Hopkit and later becoming an excellent hunter named Hoprunner, it wasn’t expected that he would ever be a good fighter. That would be perfectly respectable, but ambitious Hoprunner had his eyes on deputyship. In order to have that position, he needed to be an exceptional warrior in both hunting AND fighting.
So at first, he trained to ‘overcome‘ his twisted paw. It wasn’t working, until he realized, it didn’t HAVE to be a weakness to overcome. In a fateful battle with ShadowClan, he used his ‘good‘ paw to distract his opponent, reared up, and clobbered them with the dead foot like a club. Upon becoming deputy, he was renamed to Deadfoot in honor of the battle move he’d founded.
Elders
When a cat becomes an elder, it’s customary for them to name something they’ve “given“ to their clan in exchange for finally being allowed to rest. She’s given One-Eye, he’s given Half-a-Tail. This is optional, and goes in and out of popularity between generations.
Additional cats for fun:
Clawface = Was Duskfur, renamed for an injury sustained during a very bloody fight with WindClan, to raise Clan morale
Ratscar = Was Meltpelt (because it’s fun that he’s Melt and his sister is Snow). Survived being literally buried in angry rats at the carrionplace.
Shredtail = Was Thornstripe, lost his kits to a mother badger, lost his tail while getting revenge slaughtering the badger’s kits in turn.
Redscar = Was Redberry, a warrior turned medicine cat. For the life he’d lived before medicine, his proud mentor gave him a new name once he was fully trained.

reading warrior cats (especially male pov’s) is genuinely the hardest thing ever simply because all of them follow this loner plot line that put them in a mental position that no one understands them or everyone it out for them when the books then only present people being kind to them. like w/ brambleclaw his obsession w/ thinking everyone sees him as his dad is proved by nothing but his own thoughts. lionblaze’s power (before it’s revealed) is seen as an awesome and cool thing and lionblaze has always been complimented for his fighting skills but thinks of himself as an outcast when he never is. jayfeather is increasingly mean to anyone and everyone and yet chatacters always just roll their eyes playfully and i can name several characters who are all close with him. our newest example, flamepaw/nightheart, fits perfectly when he has constant turmoil over how everyone treats him when everyone around him treats him exceptionally well. the only male characters i can think of who actually fits the “everyone is out to get me which affects my personality and judgements” that actually make sense are onestar and shadowsight.

i've posted about this before but i think a lot about how dandelionkit died when she was two moons old.
dandelionkit isn't like her siblings. sparkkit has so much energy squirrelflight often sends her to help briarlight, just so she can sleep at nap time. alderkit is calmer, but that doesn't mean he can't keep up.
she can't.
no one thinks she'll be a warrior. (if she were a little older, she would know: no one expects her to live that long.) the elders don't complain if she chases their tail, and the warriors never chastise her for playing too close to them. squirrelflight pulls her closest at night, and bramblestar takes her into the forest once, tucked tight under his paws, just so she can see.
she's just a kit. she doesn't know she's going to die, doesn't know every day she doesn't get stronger is a day she gets weaker. squirrelflight starts telling alderkit and sparkkit to be gentler with her. jayfeather and leafpool talk to squirrelflight and bramblestar outside the nursery, as they wait with cinderheart. she thinks it's getting harder to breathe, but maybe it's just the weather.
dandelionkit sits with briarlight, wondering if she could help in the medicine den when she's older. briarlight purrs, nuzzling the top of her head, and says nothing. jayfeather chases her out, telling her to stop getting under their feet and to go bother her littermates instead, with none of his usual bite. she watches sparkkit and alderkit wrestle and decides to nap on bramblestar instead.
but thunderclan knows.

something so evil about leafpool asking starclan for help when she was lost and confused and they told her what to do and she did it and then they shamed her for it in life AND death. they came to her in visions and dreams and told her how stupid she was and how badly she messed up and how it was all her fault. they let the clans shun her and squirrelflight for a mistake that they encouraged and that was prophesied to happen anyway. and then when leafpool dies saving a mother and her kits, starclan (MANY OF WHOM BROKE THE CODE IN THE EXACT SAME WAY SHE DID!!!!!!) have the nerve to hold a trial for her where they line up and berate and humiliate her and try to decide whether or not she should quite literally go to hell for the crime of. having kits with a cat from another clan. like what. even in death she’s never going to escape her miserable life. there’s no comfort for her ever.

perpetually annoyed by character criticism that is just “is this character sympathetic? is this character relatable? does this character get an ending they ‘deserve’ (as it correlates with their own moral goodness)?” so what if they’re unsympathetic. so what if they’re unrelatable. so what if they are made suffer. so what if they’re a symbol. they’re not real! fictional characters are tools in a story, like setting, or tropes, or tone, or style, or pacing, or medium. they are a figment, a fragment. they are not human beings, and they do not exist in a real life moral framework. this is not good analysis. ask better questions.

Call me cringe but I think its far more fun and sexy and respectable for creatives to try in earnest and produce something Bad than to never create at all because they fear it might be bad
