The project I have returned to improve and develop is the 'shape and colour' project.
I decided that I would do it by hand this time since I'm better at that than digital.

Drafting, planning and Finished pages of 3&4.
For reference on templating I used 'the dark crystal creation myths' comic book I have, and will be using it as a guide for I will template my work because I have been struggling with the formation of it.
Something I have noticed in this comic that the images and templating are quite large which is easy on the eyes and easy to read and a lot of images break out of the panels which make it interesting.

Enrichment talks
From other work experience talks I learnt about art in the industry and how an artist may be employed to work for a company on a specific project and the kind of commissions they will be given and what will be expected on both ends. There was also a talk about careers in art and earning a living, it was a good way of thinking about my potential earnings and how I would consider spending my money. There were also talks about potentially going into university and the different options we can choose, which is something I have thought about but I thought going into the foundation course would suit me more.

Graphic Novel
(work experience project)
During the interview I wrote down all the notes I needed from the information I gathered.
From all the notes i collected I then sorted them in order so I would then have a better idea of what I would be illustrating.

Over Haddon
(work experience)
For the Over Haddon work opportunity, ‘meet yew there’ project, I collected some Ideas based on the key words/themes given to us by our customer. From the themes I have drawn up some ideas and thumbnails using the words: war memorial, sheep, watermill, river, field. my personal favourites are my war memorial illustration and my sheep illustration.   My war memorial illustration is the silhouette of a soldier the words ‘role of honour’  written on him with flowers surrounding him, I chose the words ‘role of honour’ because that’s what was written on their war memorial along with a list of names of residents of Over Haddon who were killed or missing from world war one and two. Those who served are also mentioned. My sheep illustration is a mixed illustration of a field with a sun set and a sheep, since they seem to value their sheep as well as they seem to of been there for many years since the medieval monks for sheep farming.   Our illustrations will go on a Corten steel panel that is 120 centimetres wide and 110 centimetres tall. These panels will go around the area that the village are reconstructing into a more aesthetically pleasing park area that many people walk through every day. Our works, if chosen, will be laser cut into the Corten steel panels. For our customers, the village, we will be providing a creative service.

Chaos
Chosen pathway, why? –
Illustration, because it’s what I enjoy doing.
What I know now that I did not before-
I know that, illustration wise I enjoy the hand making of it, and that it was the direction I wanted to head in despite thinking that I would be heading in a different one.
My strengths and preferences-
During this project I think my strengths were that I had a strong context but my ideas for what I could do were quite lenient an experimental which made what I could do for the final thing more interesting because I could experiment with a defined context.
Influential artists-
The most influential artist during this project was Quentin Blake who I saw at ‘the house of illustration’. I took heavy influence from his art style and emulated it in my own work.
What I learnt about audiences-
From my experience in London and going to different exhibitions It was a good way of looking at what kind of audiences may be attracted. There were students, and elders mostly at the exhibitions I went to. This was a good way of seeing and audience that you did not think you would attract and could show some insight to what those types of people are interested in or want to learn.
What I want to learn more about –
I want to learn about illustration in general, and what it takes to be an illustrator and a comic book artist.
How will this benefit me –
I think this will benefit me by becoming more proficient at what I do.
Materials used-
Watercolours, fine liner, watercolour paper.
Primary research-
For primary research I took pictures of the exhibitions I went to in London, ‘the house of illustration’ and ‘the cartoon museum’.
Weaknesses and improvements-
If there was anything I would improve I would improve how it would be presented, because the larger piece is slightly curved because of the paint so I would want to figure a way to straighten it out, as well as make the smaller comic piece a bit bigger because it is a bit too small.

Colour & shape
Chosen pathway, why? –
Illustration, because after seeing that fine art wasn’t really for me, I found that illustration may be more for me, so I changed my pathway to see if it was for me.
What I know now that I did not before-
I know now that I enjoy illustration a lot and I think it was defiantly more for me than fine art was, and I also learnt more templating and laying out the story so it will have a proper flow.
My strengths and preferences-
My strengths during this project were the lighting in the images and the contrast of colours, along with the framing because its interesting.
Influential artists-
The most influential artist during this project was Jacob Tomlinson, who was an artist I found when I went to the Bauhaus ‘still undead’ exhibit, and he gave me the idea to make my projects comic based.
What I learnt about audiences-
I learnt about having a target audience, and who I would be aiming for. My target audience was of a younger generation, people around my age, and people who are interested in comics.
What I want to learn more about –
I want to learn more about making digital illustration and how to use digital software in general. But also learn to improve my illustrative skills in both hand-made and digital.
How will this benefit me –
I believe this will benefit me by making me think about my potential future and prepare me for what I may expect.
Materials used-
Digital software, foam board, crafting knife, yellow coloured paper, fine liner.
Primary research-
For primary research I took pictures from the ‘still undead’ Bauhaus exhibit to help me figure out what I wanted to do.
Weaknesses and improvements-
If there was any improvements I could make now, I would try to make it look a bit more professional since I did it on my phone, I would do it on my laptop now since I have more knowledge about illustration and I have a digital drawing pad.

GLEAM
Chosen pathway, why?-
Fine art because it was what I thought I wanted to do.
What I know now that I did not before-
During this project I learnt about the differences between unauthorised art, and art that is asked for by people hosting a festival. I also learnt that there is a certain demand from the audience and the hosts that must be taken into consideration, and how it can be presented.
My strengths and preferences-
I would say my strengths during this project was my problem solving and experimenting with something new, that was also what I found fun because I was doing mini sculptures of fireflies which is very much out of my comfort zone, but I enjoyed it anyway.
Influential artists-
My main artist inspiration was Dylan Conner, who made a giant steel sculpture of fireflies which is where I got the main idea for the structure of my fireflies.
What I learnt about audiences-
What I learnt about the audience in this project was that this will be aimed at specific audiences rather than everyone, such as families, children and people interested in the festival.
What I want to learn more about-
I want to learn more about what i can do to reach what i want to do and to see how far i can push it.
How will this benefit me-
This has benefited me by giving me an experience in what would be expected of me as an artist and giving me the experience of trying something I would not normally.
Materials used-
Coloured paper, crafting knife, glue
Primary research-
For primary research I took pictures of Christmas lights and the process of me making the firefly, a couple of experiments with the firefly and how it casts shadows, and I took pictures of areas in town where my projects could be placed.
Weaknesses and improvements-
For weaknesses I would say that management was a small issue in the beginning because I got mixed up in so many ideas in the beginning some of which had nothing to do with fireflies, but I think it was all a part of the process. I personally don’t think there are any improvements that can be made because the end product exceeded my expectation.

Melbourne festival
Chosen pathway, why?-
For the Melbourne festival my pathway was fine art, this was because It was a group project and we were all participating in making Guerilla themed sculpture art for the festival.
What I know now that I did not before-
During this project I learnt the meaning of Guerilla art which is street art that expresses that artists views and opinions in an unauthorised area. The art states meaning.
I also learnt more about teamwork, since we had to work as a group, through the experience there was a lot of development among the group.
My strengths and preferences-
My strengths during this project was probably some of the problem solving aspects of it, such as the wheels of the cardboard bikes which was a problem because we weren’t sure how to get around the spokes of the bike, but the problem was solved when we used the template of a bike wheel. The best part of the projects was cutting out the bikes out of cardboard, this was because it was hard and tiresome to do.
Influential artists-
The main influential artist I used was Banksy.
What I learnt about audiences-
From this project I learnt that because Guerilla art is art put in an unauthorised public area, everyone in the street can see it, so its open to a lot of opinions of the public.
What I want to learn more about-
I want to learn more about the different types of audiences in different environments.
How will this benefit me-
This will benefit my newfound knowledge of the audience and will hopefully make me envision the type of audience I will be aiming for.
Materials used-
Cardboard, crafting knives, paint (was layered multiple times).
Primary research-
The primary research was mainly images of the development, process and problem solving of the projects.
Weaknesses and improvements-
The weaknesses of the project was the piece as a whole because it didn’t reach my expectations; improvement wise I would say something could have been done to them to make look less underwhelming such as some small detail to them perhaps. But I don’t think I would try to improve anything anyway because I had a lot of fun doing it.

Planning and drafting the first page of the comic. Writing out a script for the plot based on what I had learnt from watching Ghibli movies and reading Japanese folktales.
I was figuring out templating and sorting out scenes.
