I KNOW RIGHT? They’re displaying so many tie signs that it hurts in a good way.

For those who don’t know, tie signs are external displays that show a person is “taken” or a sign of their intimate relationship.

Some of them we can see are:

Proxemic: really obvious, especially in episode 3. People may say it’s part of Korea culture that bros will just keep being close to each other but there are contexts to those situations. What the episodes of the arcade are displaying aren’t just reactions from “Korean culture”. Just compare all the other members proxemic to kd’s and their own proxemic towards other members (proxemic is how close your body is from someone else. Although in certain situations it can’t be determined such as when you’re inside a crowded subway, in normal cases you will just want some space between yourself and others);

Haptic communication: all the episodes contain touches between them. For example in episode 1, KS embraces JI’s waist but tries to hide it from the camera as much as possible. In episode 2, he just keeps holding Ji’s shoulders ALL THE TIME except when he flees in shame. Finally, on episode 3, Ji keeps putting his arm around KS where he could have kept his distance to see the game unfolding. The touches in an intimate context observe the duration, quantity of touches and extent. The places are kind of discreet and impersonal for some. But especially considering how Ks is with touches ON SCREEN and his insistence in initiating touch in a way that looks almost claiming, says a lot.

Kinesic communication: it represents body language and how it can be positive or negative towards others or situations. It’s really obvious the mirroring, the openness towards each other and how it’s intensified during this show.

I think it’s flabbergasting for us to see such display in a such opening way. But, in other hand, we also see how media tries to annulate it not pairing them in other occasions or including some mentions and gestures as important. For many, it may seem kd is something from the past. And maybe it is for the majority. Which is good for them so, in the end, it’s good for everyone else.
