How might we enable people to save space in their homes while taking up as little space as possible?
Or
How might we allow people to set the vibe in their home, while enabling maximum use of their space
With the expansion of small home living for young adults it is something we wish to tackle

WHat if we could use other commands with your pinkie finger. It shouldn’t be  the left out finger in a mouse.

3D Printing is cool and cooler future
Ok it’s weird to say I like trees a-lot and working with wood too. My last name happens to be something with woodman in german and wood is such a cool material to do fabrication with. Then there’s printing wood 👀. Well.. not exactly it is a pla filament mixed with wood fiber and other outshoot materials.
Tumblr media
While looking to the future it’s important to think about sustainability. Where plastic we create will never go away it will be our last traces to archaeological sites to the future and its abundance. What I how for the future of 3d printing is how it spreads to more organic materials and branches into printing food organs and prints 3D sure but not you the wood you think in single layers. That’s my thoughts but thoughts are wood working with printers.

So I may have underestimated  the making of a quilt for the first time and suffered for it, but had fun making this. Although I'm not entirely finished with it but will continue working on it to be a quilt I’ll use. It kept me busy and was a quarantine project I got to tackle. This differently plays on the homely aspect of this quarantine and something I would do when I’m home since in this past semester and how our world has changed so much in just a short amount of time and cut abruptly short. I’m really satisfied with how this piece turned out despite my limited skills and a project I never done before. As this qulit not only reflects on the current time that we are facing, and to me, it really shows the thinking process behind this Method class. Becoming a quilt to definitely remember for the rest of my life.
I took a gamble and tried something new and I will continue doing so throughout my journey in Stamp and outside. Methods put emphasis on why I am creating something and focus on the process than the actual product. I felt this remapping project was the one that allowed me to really engage in the process shown in my google drive. I honestly struggled after classes went online and it was hard to find motivation. I am proud of myself to be able to pull through the most interesting first year college experience and this class was definitely a challenge to navigate that side of creation in methods through this.
In my first year of stamps, there is still a big transition to studying Art and Design at a University level. Compared to a self taught/highschool education that focuses only on the aesthetic of the final product. With this quilt it was a lot of work and trouble shooting more than I’ll admit, but I am happy with how it turned out.

After getting all the panels cut I arrange them in the order I want to sew in. I started sewing a couple of the square together and I though it looked not as exciting as I wanted them to.
I started to incorporate textile designs to make it visual more interesting. So it relates to me and would become a quilt that it would be more personally than a simple rag like quilt. I gathered some floral and fabric paint/bleach and started to make some designs.

Finished cutting out the strips of fabric for the quilt took me over 8 hours to do. I underestimated this project

Quarantine Day 15:  I’m working on making face masks for friends and family, as-well to donate to my local hospital. Using the materials I had at home already. When making these mask you must see the requirements of the mask for certain hospitals on what they will accept. I used 5 layers of fabric, 3 of which is lining.

Sequence Project Reflection on Classmates
I remember at the beginning when researching for a umich person I and my partner considered the apollo 15 for the project. Although we didn’t go with it, it piked my interest when I first learned they you guys were doing the Apollo 15. I was curious about what direction your sequence was going to go. Now that I’ve seen your final project I’ve been impressed and dazzled by your video. How you change from a realistic black and white to a fanasty sci-fi setting is splendid. It really showed a side of the project you enjoyed doing and creating. By the way, your guy’s make-up is amazing.

In the beginning, we had no idea what the end product would be nor what the iterations the project would go through. Based on the initial instruction from our professor, of researching people relating to the university. We started with a list of alums we thought, in particular, would be engaging and have themes we could possibly explore in the sequence assignment. The reason we went with Isabella Abbottt (expanded from above) is making a cake after Emily found this article “Isabella Abbott, World-renowned Stanford Algae Expert Dies at 91” which mentions Abbott’s personal hobby and how it related to her professional life and traditional culture. Both of us agreed to make a cake for the project early on but yet didn’t know how to present it and what message we wanted to convey for the Sequence. In the end, I didn’t get to eat the cake.

Reflection
Overall we weren’t really expecting to end up with the topic that we did. First starting with Isabella Abbott, we thought we were going to focus on her Hawaiian heritage and her connection to her mother through baking and traditional Hawaiian culture. These ideas later transformed into comparing Abbott’s dual life as the first native Hawaiian woman to get a PhD in the sciences and as someone who practices traditional female and cultural roles by baking. The main themes in our project for a long time were simply comparing beauty and the grotesque,  Not until much later in the project did we turn the focus to ourselves and how her work in an unconventional field as a woman translated to our lives. Both baking and her study of algae are very physical and demanding operations, putting our focus on hands and their connection to us. As makers our hands are incredibly important, and as women there are certain expectations and limitations associated with our hands. We started to explore the connections between appearance, expectations, creation, free thought, and how our hands/actions convey these themes. We would have liked to continue exploring this project, possibly bringing in additional media, because by the time our “final” topic or theme arose from our research, we had much more limited time to create a project.
