“i hate it here” is peak escapism and hearing her talk about how she lives in a garden no one else has access to in her mind (unlike the rest of her life) for most of the year is sooooo. made up scenarios and imagining living in the 1800s… it’s giving the lakes except she’s alone and she can’t actually leave. so much of the album is about feeling stuck and this one is about feeling stuck in herself.

i love the alchemy because she talks about her comeback to the public eye through the story of her current relationship.

the first verse (“what if i told you im back, the hospital was a drag”) is about her coming out of her shell again after six years, along with the line “i circled you on a map”, alluding to her singling out travis before meeting him.

the chorus refers to her coming back to her domination of the music and entertainment industry using football slang because of travis, with the hearts of the audience still being reserved for her. she perfectly muddles the line between her new private relationship and her career’s standing.

the second verse is pure “im back, dont try me and you’ll be okay”, calling out other artists that have tried to start beef with her. she (in a hilariously condescending way) tells them they’re done because now she’s back.

the bridge once again blurs the lines. she talks about travis’s career but also mentions how many didn’t believe she could be the greatest.

the double meanings of this song are so smart and im sad more people aren’t appreciating them!
