today I made big gummy bears

#3D #is this reblog chain becoming too long? should I have made individual posts #I was't expecting this to be a multi-day streak of little practice projects tbh #I thought the eye was a one-off and then just kinda kept building on things #the eye made me discover the refractive material #then I tried that out in its clear form with the glasses #and today I moved on to a slightly more opaque colored version with the gummy bears #but idk where I want to go from here so maybe I'm done for now who knows

#3D #listen I absolutely prefer stylized 3D art over the photorealistic stuff #but I'm having such a blast with this today #it just looks cool and it's actually extremely easy to do lol #reminds me of the time I rendered two differently lit teacups for work #and they were really nice tall ones with gold detail. very fancy #and I'd never done like. realistic looking lighting before that? so it was so rewarding to see the results #shoutout to my coworker who was somehow the one who told me about hdri lighting #instead of anyone mentioning that during my 7 semesters of uni. anyway #enjoy glass of water baby

#3D #while doing the eye I learned that nomad sculpt (the app that I'm using for these) does a pretty nice glass material #and I realized I hadn't tried out its lathe tool before #so I thought I'd play around with those today #and guess what #I had So Much Fun doing this today #it's totally different from what I usually do and it's super basic and unimpressive but I just #let myself do whatever I wanted and play around without expectations #and that's when I start having fun with art again it turns out #sure I also enjoy drawing Characters but I get so far in my own head about it #being consistent and getting their personalities just right and making them appealing and not making any embarrassing mistakes and #you get it #also 3D brain is very different than 2D brain and right now it's working a lot better #anyway. I'm doodling. but in 3D :)

#3D #I've never done anything at this level of detail before and just wanted to see if I could #and then gave up at the prospect of sculpting individual eyelashes lmao #but yeah it turns out this isn't even all that hard #I drew the structure of the iris in procreate beforehand to use as an alpha (basically like a stamp in clay) #and the rest was just painting and some very minor sculpting #it was fun! #I want to say maybe next time I'll do an actual sparkly anime eyeball #but from what I've seen anime style 3D art keeps the features very simple and flat #so I'd just literally be drawing it anyway and there's nothing exciting to me about that #anyway! get beheld 👁️

I don't usually do text posts on this blog but I have to point out how funny it is to me that the first time I listened to rqg I only started drawing fanart once azu showed up, and the second time (when I was really hoping to be moved to draw more art of the earlier episodes too) the Exact Same Thing happened

I haven't even drawn azu herself that much but apparently that is the effect she has on me
