"You can't say I didn't warn you this would happen"
Whatever had been exposed on their face seemed to have satisfied Villain. Hero hoped it was nothing but neutrality, out of sheer boredom. As if it were every day that the city revered Villain, not its hero, for things that came from the hero's mind.
But that wasn't why, was it? Nobody would guess that the villain only helped to save the day at the request of the hero themself, and it made no difference whether they knew because it was not Hero who was the hero of the day but their enemy. Nor that it had to be more of a begging than a request.
So it was clear they weren't shaken to see Villain's picture in the papers; heroes and villains appeared in the newspapers all the time. But when they heard what people were saying on the streets, when they turned on the TV, when they saw the posters on the street treating who was once the villain, the same person Hero has fought and protected the city against so long ago...
No, no, no, they weren't disturbed.
"Can you see it now?"
"I see the city is safe" Hero kept their voice calm. Villain raised an eyebrow, asking a silent question. But the way they were relaxed gave it away that somewhere inside them they were amused by Hero reaction.
"What was already in front of you" they continued as if uninterrupted "Right under your nose. I told you so"
"Yes, I remember you telling me" they stood idly by, the memory running through their minds of when they'd asked—no, when they'd had to beg for the villain's help after— because they couldn't make it on their own. They weren't that strong, as much as it hurt to admit it, and Villain knew how to do things Hero couldn't, and people's safety came before Hero and their dignity.
(Although they were under the impression that Villain would help them independently, they just wanted to see them beg, on their knees, their pride shattered to splinters.)
Villain smiled, as if they had remembered too.
"I told you the risk I would take if they knew I was going to play the hero with you. I told you, even though I knew you wouldn't listen to me."
"Then why did you tell me if you knew I wouldn't listen?" Hero struggled to keep their voice calm, not shake. "As if kneeling down and begging wasn't enough"
Somehow their nemesis (are they still nemesis?) smile widened.
"Oh yes. It was really good" they turned to face the view. In a place where no one could see them and no one would know they were there. Hero wanted the loneliness, because it Is too much to ask someone to understand them, because they don't know how to talk, but also wanted to see Villain too. The breeze hit their face which suddenly became serene "But I remember telling you before. How this city works. That in a snap of a finger people would have another image of you"
"As far as I know, I'm not hated"
"But," Villain looked back at them, "Who are they calling savior?"
That was one thing about Villain; they knew what to say to reach people. Whether in a good or bad way.
Hero clenched their arms, fighting the urge to bite their lower lip, under Villain gaze. At another time they would cry, but they didn't want to be a crybaby. The purest frustration. Hero could whimper for their pride and it wasn't like they hadn't, but they gave in, because despite everything, they wanted to save people.
They thought about saying 'I'm sorry about you' but Villain had a serenity on their face. As if that alone was enough to mock Hero.
"That's good. It means the city is safe one more day" they let out their breath. And no one else needs me anymore. Maybe never ever they needed me in the first place…
"How noble of you"
"Thank you. It's my job. Helping people regardless of whether I have to turn to your help and have to get down on my knees"
"You mean you'd be on your knees for me again?"
Anger rose in their throat, but they had to contain it. Villain joked, but wanted to know where the hero would get.
"If it's to save people…" They started, but thought fast when the satisfaction in Villain's eyes sparkled “But you wouldn't do it because this is my job and not even your intact pride would make you do it again"
"Too bad no one else remembers this" Villain muttered and took a step forward "Do you see it now?"
Do you see now? Yes I see. I've seen it since the day I asked you for your help and I'm hating every second of it.
It was heroic to brag about your surveys, but Hero was used to the praise, the celebrations, even if they lasted for a while, being grateful for giving their life for the city.
Now that Villain proved to be stronger, more agile, more than Hero has ever been, and was the hero just that once, suddenly they weren't anymore.
They didn't notice that Villain stopped right in front of them. Hero would never get this close to Villain, but to walk away would be to give in. And they've already given up so much...
"They only mention your name after mine"
"As if you asked for all this" came out of Hero without hesitating. Regret came from seeing Villain's eyes gleam with his reaction.
"You're so frustrated aren't you, my dear?"
"I'm tired" and they couldn't be tired. Some of tehir emotion spilled into their voice, "Saving the city is exhausting. You know that so much now, don't you?"
But Hero shouldn't have sounded sarcastic.
"Nobody else doesn't know" Villain tilted their head "And it annoys you so much. Almost as if they forgot you, when you gave so much to them. And that's just a little bit of what you'd understand from what I've been through"
Hero clenched their fists. "Then why did you?" They almost spit "You have so much power and so much… You could use that to help people"
They must have hit a point, as Villain's face turned serious.
"It wouldn't be worth it" they shrugged.
"So why did you help me? I already understand your tragic past, but why help me?"
"You asked, didn't you? But you understand now, don't you? You see now"
Yes, they see. In every frustration they felt at seeing that they were left alone. Now, it was as if Villain sympathized with them. And it only made Hero clench their fists even more.
"It's not fair" they muttered. Not that they wanted to agree with Villain, they didn't, but nothing was fair. Anything. Their chest burned from it.
They also didn't notice when Villain moved even closer, taking their hand to tuck a strand of hair behind Hero ear.
"You could be better than me. You could save more people than I ever could. I give so much of myself to be good and save everyone, when you can do it all in a snap. And you don't even care" They shouted "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
Villain lifted their chin.
"Do you know why I made you get down on your knees and beg?" Hero rolled their eyes "As well as satisfying my ego. Do you know why?" If it was meant to be rhetorical, they didn't imply it. "You had to do it. There was no other choice. And if they knew you had to do it, what do you think people would think of you?"
"That you are a piece of shit?"
"Who would know that even the hero needed help? That he had to submit to me?"
"I didn't submit. I begged, I gave you what you wanted"
"But you care that others don't care about you anymore. Tell me, you can't even look your fellow-friends in the face, can you? Even after all?"
Hero tried to banish the faces of their former companions from their head; they've already called friends. They thought they valued them as much as they did, whenever they saw them in action they saw their ability. They could not, however, forget their faces when they said that the villain was better than them, but that it was a pity that they could not go to their side.
"There's still what you could give me," Villain said in a different voice.
"More than having people worship you wherever you go?" I won't get down on my knees again.
Villain shrugged.
"You'd be surprised." Villain put their hands on Hero shoulders. It didn't even look like it did before "I wanted you to see this. You see, I was hoping your peers could see you, know how amazing you are. But I have the certainty, the full certainty, that I'm the only one who knows this. Because I know you, my darling. You are beatiful -- I should say this more"
Villain hands slid to their neck. It would be easy for them to squeeze. But Hero had the strangest notion that they would never do that.
"Do you see this now?"
Hero widens their eyes at them, not sure if they are feeling satiated, surprised or angry, or everything. Whatever it was, Villain counted it as one more victory.

What's good!? How are you? Would you mind doing a pt. 4 to Fraternization?
💕💕💕💕 much love <3
Hey, despite writing block, i'm good. And Thank you for the ask, hope you enjoy <3<3
It wasn't the first time a Villain had cornered Hero; no, but it was the first time Villain kidnapped them.
But they didn't think they would give such a cool room and fresh food to their victim.
“Come on, you have to eat,” Villain said as they closed the door behind with their foot, their hands full with a tray. They were still in their uniform, but without their overcoat. Hero rarely saw their uniform under. It felt like the kidnapping happened days ago.
Hero eyes didn't leave the wall. There was nothing useful to do with anything there; no weapons and no exit and no food…
Well, just the first two options. The instant Hero heart returned to its normal rhythm and decided to give some of their attention to the shitty bastard the world used to call Villain, they realized it was time for someone to bring the food.
Villain set the tray on the plastic table in the center of the room. They took a bite of the sandwich and a sip of the juice, chewing calmly and even tilting their head back so Hero could see their muscles swallowing the morsel. Hero tried to remain expressionless as long as they could. Then Villain took another bite of the other sandwich. Their eyes screamed, 'See? No poison'
Hero stared at the tray, a sandwich with cheese and jelly, another with cheddar cheese, beef, lettuce, tomato, and most importantly, pickles. Oh, how they loved pickles.
“I made this one. There wasn't much jelly, but I like it when there's plenty of it.” They pointed to one of the sandwiches. “But when I went to buy the other one, the attendant looked at me strangely. I think people don't really like pickles in their sandwiches and they don't usually ask to put more pickles…”
“When your will mentor come?” Hero asked in a low voice, in the most boring way they wanted to sound.
The difference in their tone from their almost made them flinch. Almost. On another occasion, their heart would drop for breaking Villain excitement.
But they shouldn't. Just like they shouldn't have done so many other things…
"After you eat" Villain voice also changed. They pulled a chair closer to the table, as a cordial invitation for Hero to do the same.
Hero did, but not because they wanted to or because their stomach was empty.
"If I don't want to see him, I just don't eat," Hero concluded, taking a quick look at the sandwiches they'd wanted so badly, on an occasion when they weren't being held somewhere against their will.
“The serum I gave makes people hungry. Trust me, you want to fill your stomach.”
"Oh, you've done this before, of course"
"No. Yes. Kind of…” Villain raised their voice more than they wanted to, frowning. Hero stared at them, waiting for his next move, wondering if what they saw on their face was the same as what was going on in their head. "You won't be hurt more. Neither will Mentor”
"You're an idiot"
"Yeah"
“You are a dirty, a liar, bastard…”
“Glady that my expectations remain firm. Now eat"
“How long have you known about them?”
Villain held their breath for a long time.
“If you eat, I'll…” they sighed, giving up on whatever they were planning to say. A threat, Hero figured. They could resist as well. For how long, they really don't know.
But Villain said instead, in a voice too much softer than Hero was prepared for. “Look, I haven't known about this for as long as you have."
Hero took a look at the jelly sandwich. It looked delicious despite the excess jelly. Hunger would be more of their vulnerability, while consuming something Villain would be like waiting for something to happen inside them.
"But all he told me was that he needed to see your mentor. He had… plans" they shrugged as if the idea was stranger than it was being for Hero "But that there were things your mentor knew that he wanted to know. And no, I don't know what that would be. I'm just taking orders and following them"
Hero closed their mouth, a little uncomfortable knowing that their face betrayed everything they were thinking.
But they weren't going to get anything by keeping quiet. As if being expressionless has made any difference lately, hasn't it?
When a question hit the tip of their tongue, Villain rose from their chair and pushed the plate of jelly sandwich toward Hero.
"Now, I expect some cooperation while I answer your questions"
"Cooperation?" They spat, digging their nails into the fabric of their pants, feeling the urge to lunge at Villain.
"Eat"
Hero took their time getting the jelly sandwich, telling themself that this wasn't submitting to Villain, but a better option than being weak from hunger. They shouldn't be too much proud and scared.
Villain didn't take their eyes off them until they'd swallowed the first bite. It was too good, and Hero would never admit it.
"How do I get into this plane?"
"The guy is unreachable. No contacts, no social media, nothing. You're the only one closest to him who's not confined in that agency building. So Supervillain came up with the idea of kidnapping you and I agreed" They smiled brightly.
Hero looked at the plate. "If we get out of this unharmed, he'll be even more so"
They didn't notice they'd rounded the table before it was too late. But they didn't flinch when Villain hand gripped their shoulder.
"You won't get hurt" Villain tightened the grip as if reassuring their more words "Of course he won't"
Hero met their eyes, ignoring the quick and unimportant wave of heat that shot through them and was gone. Not at all believing it.
"I won't let you be hurt"
It must have been on purpose to make Hero smile, if only out of irony, for Villain softened their gaze.
"Of course" they repeated in the same tone as them "Only you can"
Villain shook their head and their fingers brushed a lock of Hero hair. "See? You understand that now"
Hero didn't miss the sound their heart pounding through their ears. Villain powers didn't apply super hearing.
"You would go against your mentor rules" Hero said wryly, ignoring what brief contact could do to them. How they could fall apart by a simple touch and simple words and simple actions.
"Yes, I would." Villain took their hand away and returned it to their shoulder as leaned closer. "Although I doubt you would go against yours"
Hero had plenty of time to retort before the Villain left the room and the door slammed. A long, long time to say something. They would probably have a good case for saying no, that Villain was wrong, and that they had one thing in particular that went against the rules Mentor had taught them. But there is things that they couldn't say out loud.

“But of course it was you”
"Hi"
Superhero sigh was the only sound of the place; that and the drumming of Villain fingers from where she was sitting, one leg over the other and a grin baring her teeth. Just like someone who would never have tricks under her skin and absolutely never would use it behind someone back.
They must have seen that coming, after the mission failure to uncover the other villains plans and steal Villain own. Usually, when she was absent for a long time, both the expectation of a new plan and the execution of a bigger scheme increased. They remembered the robbery during the Webbers ball, the mess from the previous year, and the specific mission that Hero had mysteriously taken too long to complete...
The villain cocked her head to the side, her arms braced on the platform and face lighting up as she watched the superhero telling their team over the communicator that the area was clear.
Even though she was expecting another person to come, she felt that there was something different from the usual. Not wrong, but suspicious.
“Why did it take so long?”
"Surprised?"
“No, not entirely. I had my fingers crossed that you and your team failed and I got lucky, but I was bored" She waved her hand.
Superhero kept a considerable distance, from where they saw her entire body and sides.
"Is this an invitation for a fight?" The villain adopted a suggestive tone. Everything in her eyes stimulating a good, dangerous invitation. She took the leg over the other and make a attempt to jump, all calm and collected "I almost worried that this day still isn't overwhelming for you"
"Better worry yourself when you get home and find Hero nowhere"
The villain stopped mid-motion, mid-mockery that scrawled on her tongue; an abrupt reaction that spread her body. When she realized she heard right, straightened her spine. A taste of victory pleased Superhero soul after a day of failure.
"You know, sooner or later we were going to find out" they walked to the side, hiding their hands behind the back "I didn't know you liked to play that dirty, but you surprised me"
The villain blinked. Pulling a reaction from the heroes was as light as lifting the strings of a puppet. But sometimes, some throw away the cords, and others are impossible to catch. The thing is to know which one to play.
Not that she wanted to play, but she was really bored. (And a beat of her worries stringed).
"Jealous?" From Superhero bored face, she continued "I don't know how my affair is of interest to you"
"When your affair involved Hero and, just out of a little matter of facts, affected our efforts, when pieces of information that should be kept behind closed doors begin to spread," their tone turned to irony too quickly. Her time to take a little pleasure. "And just when our missions fail, yes it does. Especially when you mess up with one of my heroes"
“I’m so, so sorry for ending your fun”
Superhero cut the act itself and reverted to their serious self mask. Its almost funny how they not so hard to maintain the composture. Its one thing in front of the cameras, another in presence of people like Villain. In those moments when there was no tenderness but contempt in their gaze. When a slight threat appears suddenly in their all shiny face.
She knows her eyes are not mistaken when she finds a strange delight that definitely is not there when they are in front of the city.
Villain cocked their head to the side, the involuntary smirk tugging at their tone. She imagined their mind in turmoil, popping explosions in different places like fleas.
"Should I be offended to be accused of this judgment?"
"You should…" Superhero held back another wave of stress "You should keep your manipulation out of our accounts"
"Come on, Hero is not to blame" The villain dared in one more step "I'm just really good at what I do. It's no secret what kind of person I am anyway" she shrugged "Everyone in this town knows. I mean, when one of your heroes decided to…"
“Fuck you” they snarled, letting the thread that held their blankness fade. "That's not an excuse"
Villain crossed her arms over each other. She wanted to say that she wasn't the only one there. But she pouted.
“Hasty conclusions, aren't they?”
Hero must have gone insane. Not that the villain liked to imagine their encounters discovered, but Oh, Hero was so afraid they would. Villain knew as she drowned her hair, that somewhere inside that beautiful head she feared the worst to happen. But it was hard to think when the villain pinned her against the wall.
What would they think if they knew she fell for Villain? What kind of judgments would she take when they discover that she carried on after the things Villain did?
Despite everything, those beautiful eyes still burst little hearts. Knowing that trust was a complicated word for Villain. Superhero must have gone crazy. So much that they had to confront her. Hilarious.
The sigh Superhero let out came even more frustration. Villain touched her lips in a not so sincere attempt to hide her smile.
"I can't bring myself to understand what she saw in you"
Villain's shoulders straightened again. “Well, that will take a while for you to understand and it involves a bit of tact and talk…”
"I mean how she still sees something in you for the kind of things you do"
She kind of agree. Even her colleagues and closest ones would be forced to agree. Hero was more than aware. As well as the entire city. That proves why people are careful to interact with her if they expect something non-professional.
But it wasn't a fact that stopped Hero.
Regardless of what she did to her, and how she may or not regret it, she couldn't get away from Villain.
It was amazing how the last few months had flown by. Plans rained down on Villain head. New schemes, new possibilities. Productive days well spent with her heroic enemy. In all senses.
“Do you know why I saw something in her?” she lifted her chin to their level. Superhero remains uninterested "She's so different from all of you"
She could have referred to them directly, but she felt a little generous. Superhero don't show a hint of reaction beyond their boredom look. It wasn't, for most incredible that sounds, a lie; it was a truth that even took her by surprise.
Hero could see things clearly, beyond the masks the agency put on; it was that mixture of determination and bravery that Villain didn't know whether to roll her eyes or watch. It was easy to talk about her ideas because Hero understood them. But she felt she was wrong about that too. That hero was not like the others.
The villain gave a sharp smile.
"Maybe you should talk about it with her"
“I will. Don't worry about that too” Superhero head must have clicked to get back up. It suddenly hit them that certain things they were going to say were unnecessary. “She left town for good reason. I can arrange a lot for you to do from now on, maybe someone really good to play your sick tricks…”
It took time to hit her. Passed across her mind, like most of the things that came from Superhero mouth, and turned around to stick in front of everything she was thinking before.
Her facial expression froze. Anything that would come from her mouth vanished. The grin became more like a social smile.
“She did what?”
Superhero rolled their eyes, apathetic. "She quit"
It would have been a mistake until Superhero's pupils growled "Oh" A triumphant smile widened. “No, she is no longer with us. She left the agency and the city” their head lolled to the side “I thought you already knew by this point. She really didn't told you though”
Villain squinted at their sudden confidence. They knew the answer, which growed her irritated. But mostly, because the realization finally hit her and started to make a fuzz in her mind. From confusion to staggered and...
Of course, there was something that she was missing. Despite her throat went dry, she wouldn't make a move to swallow or look away.
“After a few discussions…” Superhero shook their head "We reached a consensus and we thought it was the best. It was her idea. I didn't want it to get to that point, but… Even the best ones are easy to lose their way” They glared at the villain as she approached.
“Humph” Villain muttered.
“To be honest, I think she quit more on her own”
Quit. Not a break, not a few days off. Not a vacation. It meant forever. Hero did it. And she knew it now.
But it wasn't just quitting. She left the city. Her city. Her hero...
"So if you want company to quell your boredom," a satisfying grin in their perfect white teeths showed, "I'll worry about giving you many"
"This..." the villain filled her lungs and let out a shaky breath. She brought her hand to her chest, the beats echoing through her glove one after the other, in a very short time "Cute"
A glint of a smile played on her lips as her pupils dilated as her voice came out soft.
“I don't remember the agency worrying that much about me. I must be really good at what I do.”
"Oh we do" they turned their back (one of the few people in that town to do so). Before disappearing, they gave one last look “Since your little hero no longer does”
Superhero clenched their jaw so hard Villain could hear the teeth creaking.
Villain would have waved if they hadn't looked straight ahead as they walked away.
The ache in her chest began to devour her from that day on.

Feeling horney...... I have no rules, I know it'll be amazing! If you want of course... No pressure! ❤
Espionage wasn’t the hero’s favourite tactic in their whole repertoire. In fact, they were incredibly bad at acting.
Which is why this whole operation was doomed from the very beginning — the hero swore they would screw up. They were supposed to go undercover on the painful extravaganza the villain called “party” And taking account of the villain’s and hero’s complicated past, this was a disaster.
“Great Gatsby my ass,” the hero mumbled as they made their way up the expensive flight of stairs. The villain definitely knew how to impress their guests. Downstairs, wealthy drinks and rich entertainment were displayed, enough of it to make the hero dizzy.
Every celebrity ever was cheating on their spouses there and the hero knew that if they’d been interested in gossip, this place would’ve been a goldmine.
But the hero was here for important information. Not for rumours.
The actual house was a nightmare. Getting lost was easy, but thankfully, the hero wasn’t here the first time.
Once they were in front of the villain’s office, they picked the lock. As soon as the lock gave them the satisfying click, and they finally got to enter the room, their heart jumped a bit. They were in. This could work. The mission wasn’t cursed. Despite their poor skills as a spy and hiding in crowds, they could do this.
They closed the door quietly but it wouldn’t have mattered — with the playing song’s bass banging through the whole house, no one would’ve heard it anyway.
But before they could reach the desk, their instincts started screaming. They weren’t alone. Their whole body turned cold as their suspicious got confirmed.
“Ah, my favourite ex visits me again.” The hero swallowed and took a deep breath before they turned around and saw — as expected — the villain, dressed only in expensive clothes. As always.
“Don’t call me that,” the hero said, their brain already alarmed.
“But it’s true.” The villain looked unholily delicate. “You’re my favourite ex.”
The villain was in front of them before the hero could even reply with words. However, their body replied with a blush and wavering thoughts.
“And now my favourite ex is stealing from me, hm?” The villain closed in on them, forcing the hero to take a step back and then another and another until they bumped against the desk. “Not very heroic.”
“Those plans are governmental property,” the hero reminded them but their voice was weaker than they intended it to be. “You’re a thief and a liar. You’ve always been one.”
“Hm,” the villain answered. Their eyes dropped to the hero’s lips and it almost made the hero angry how their own heart dropped just as quickly. It provoked old feelings they had sworn to bury. To burn. “You’re both as well, then.”
The hero almost wanted to laugh but the villain was too close. If they had moved, they would’ve touched inevitably.
“Oh, please. I’m not on your low level.”
“You stole my heart and you’re lying about your own feelings. A thief and a liar,” the villain said and they had the audacity to grin as the hero’s ears burnt. The villain leaned over and suddenly, their nose touched the hero’s cheek. “Admit it, this relationship isn’t over.”
“It is over.” The villain let their finger run along the hero’s wrist, just like they knew the hero liked it. The hero made the mistake of putting their other hand onto the villain’s chest. They didn’t push them away, though. Slowly, the villain’s hand wandered to the hero’s lower back.
“It’s been three months. Have you moved on yet? Because I have not. I think about you constantly. I wake up, thinking you’re next to me. I dream about you,” the villain whispered, their breath hot against the hero’s skin. “And I see you on the news. You’re not happy. You look miserable. You know I can fulfil every wish you’ve ever had. I can please you like no one else. You miss me. And I miss you.”
“No…” the hero answered with a trembling voice. They didn’t want to think about the villain shirtless but they couldn’t banish those images that were burnt into their brain. They hated how right the villain always was.
“I will leave if you tell me to,” the villain mumbled. Their index finger played with the hero’s hair. “I will leave you forever if you want. But if you don’t want me to leave, if you want me, I’ll show you how much I’ve truly missed you.”
The villain waited. But the hero didn’t want them to wait. It was true. All of it. Terribly true. The hero wanted their former lover back.
The hero’s hand slithered up the villain’s chest until they grabbed their enemy’s shoulder. They seized them closer.
“Fine. Make it good,” they said. The villain pulled back and grinned. This was all the villain needed to let their lips connect and their tongues touch. They were hungry, they were desperate. And the hero realised that they were too.
The heat between them was almost unbearable as the villain’s mouth slid down the hero’s neck. Much too soon however, the villain pulled away.
“Get on the table,” they commanded and without thinking about it, the hero sat down. “Spread your legs.”
The hero obeyed as the villain’s hands on their thighs divorced them. The villain positioned themselves between the hero’s legs.
“One last confession, my silly hero.” The villain dropped to their knees and looked up as if they were the obedient one. “I don’t even have those plans. I just wanted to see you, so I started a sweet rumour.”
The hero didn’t care — with the villain’s shoulders between their thighs and the villain’s mouth exactly where they needed them, the hero was something they never had been in their career: selfish.

"Mm! Very sweet!" - the villain purred happily, shoving another piece of cake into their mouth. "You have to tell me where you get these!"
The supervillain smiled, swallowing their own forkful. "You know that's a secret~."

CONTINUE THE NECROMANCY
Villain concepts are different from Hero, especially what they said after that day. They left with no gaps so Hero could say something.
Weird.
No more than in the next few days.
Fingers grabbed their chin and directed it to their enemy face.
"Did you do it again?" Villain asked in a low tone. As if that became a secret the two shared, and the villain is the only one who could talk about it.
"No" The hero replied, before trying to dodge it, because it was no one's business. Villain tightened their grip "I'm not in the mood to do it again, so could you please let me go?"
"You can barely stand" they let go their chin "Your breath is heavy, your eyes... Are you even sleeped? You are worse than that day"
Hero jump to their feet, which takes a lot of their remaining strength, but worth their point. Their fall in the middle of the fight came from a mistake, that even the best do. They don't need that Villain would start a concerning discussion around that.
That wasn't the first time. It won't be the last.
"See?" They opened their victorious arms "Still alive"
"As the cycle of life works. Oh, no, wait" they scratched their chin and pointed a finger at the heroic, pale and tired figure "You don't understand that much, do you?"
Hero promptly ignored it. For their own good. That was not what they planned for that day. Between returning to their house in the city and leaving the cabin in the woods, buying firewood to store, shopping at the corner market, washing their uniform… Hero didn't think that they had to wear it.
Now the villain looked at them even more suspiciously, much more seriously, and worried than Hero had ever seen.
It had been a few days since that situation. They wanted to forget, to tell themself that this was no big deal. They've never been discovered before, and people who knew… Well, didn't react the same way. In fact, the way Villain acted afterward was unexpected.
They wanted to know what really changed. Was it in the fact of raising the dead? That the city hero did that? That Villain find a weak point?
As usual, Hero couldn't decipher the villain.
"I have other priorities" they argued "Other than what you think is right. I'm not going to discuss this with… With…"
Villain hands took them again, guiding them back to the floor where they fell. Suddenly a realization hit them, making a shadow cross their face while staring at Hero.
"That's not tiredness"
"I would say, in part, yes." Hero suppressed the urge to hug themself. Villain touch gave off a lot more heat than they would have liked.
“You stupid, idiot, stubborn, careless…” The hero would have heard more of their cursing if their mind hadn't blurred as well as their vision. Their hands went down to their waist, and suddenly they were being held.
Hero woke up in their cabin. A meal from their bedside, on top of a note, came to their vision. Definitely not poisoning.
The next day was even stranger. The hero felt a little better, but their body was still heavy. It could be worse, on other days their blood pressure dropped, barely could walk, and it was only once that their nose possibly bled.
But they were fine overall. Even to meet the villain on a cold and windy day. They won’t fail this time. Whatever Villain planned that day, they would take it and…
A coffee cup spread out in front of them was held in the hands of their own enemy.
“Want to get one?” The villain pulled an inviting smile.
Hero looked from the cup to the villain a few times.
"Why?"
“Let's take a break. I'll buy you one.” They indicated the coffee shop across the street.
“Why steal from a coffee shop?”
“I have a discount, don't worry” wasn't a straight answer, but Hero guessed that it was a no. “It's getting cold too”
Once again, Hero looked from the cafe to the villain, who waited patiently with a smile and an expectant look.
“You started your plan to… Call me for a coffee?”
“No, I intended to fight. Really. But it's cold, it's going to rain soon, and I don't have the energy to do anything outside in a storm” Villain shrugged. “So? Do you want it?"
Hero looked at the cafeteria, imagining how comfortable it would be to walk in and protect themself from the cold. It was an imperfect day to fight.
"You look tired"
Their eyes went back to their enemy who was offering them a cup of coffee.
"You're still tired, don't you?"
They didn't expect the villain fun to fade to a serious look. Hero held back the urge to take a step back.
“Did you do it again?”
"No"
If Hero being honest, they have been tired since that day.
It was none of Villain business to know more than they already did. But they knew that was useless. The villain knew everything, whether Hero wanted to or not. Of all the people in the world, their enemy is the one who knows.
"Since that day?"
“Shh. Speak down” Hero scolded, and then scolded themself for saying such a thing "Yes. This is normal. It's no big deal”
“In its strange concept of life and death, I'm not surprised it's no big deal”
“Villain…”
“Oh, look. One more reason to do absolutely nothing today. In a second the villain back turned to them “I'll be there, dear. It's getting cold out here"
“Wait” But the villain was already heading inside, and the hero was following a little further behind.
Maybe it's Villain's fear of knowing your secret, and ignoring them isn't the best way, the way they heard being called dear in a genuine way, the growing cold outside, or the inviting request for coffee with their enemy, that made Hero enter the cafeteria. Just in time to see the villain already at the counter, getting a second cup of coffee.
They didn't notice the victorious smile that formed on their lips when they felt the hero following. Nor that coffee was coincidentally, and strategically, the same one Villain drank, but also their favorite.

"Should I feel sorry for you now?" Villain voice gave it all away.
The fire in Hero eyes didn't spark as it should.
Despite the coldness the city radiated beneath them, the cause of that destruction came from their flame. After everything, their spark dwindled. Close to how Villain saw them: exhausted, contained and hidden.
"I wanted to before" a shudder escaped from theirs, but Villain struggled to believe it was genuine amid the indifference. It was all a mask, and what Villain understood the most were masks.
However, they would not be unsettled. They would act firmly.
"Do you want me to tell you I was wrong? Well, yes.. Let's also agree that you crossed the line, even for your plan, whatever that may be?"
Hero barely looked at them.
"Is it comforting to think I have a plan?" Hero exhausted tone made it sound like a question, but their face showed they didn't need an answer.
They knew Villain spoke the truth, though. That they crossed a very obvious line that differentiate what a heroic person does and what a corrupted heroic person did. Hero screamed and the surroundings vibrated, no schemes behind.
And that scared Villain.
Hero shouldn't act that way. It's not how they planned to go when they started everything. To push Hero to their side, gaining something for their mindset to change. How big would it be if the hero starts to support them, if they believe the villain was right? And was the only person there for them?
"I’m just… Tired" they shrugged “But you do know that, don’t you?”
Villain gulped.
"This is worse than I thought, for your situation I mean. I hope you still don't think you're on a moral pedestal"
"I don't think I thought of that before" Hero eyes flew over the city "don't know if I should anymore”
"To wreak more havoc, depending on how your emotional state is each day? To forget about that shit you heroes call a code of conduct?"
"I'm sure…" Their head inclined to look at the sky. Villain thought they'd soften their expression, because the wind snaking through the city, blowing the smoke, relaxed them. "I'm sure you didn't want it to end up outside your reins"
Villain did not object. Their throat closed when imagining the confused civilians, the panicked agency, how the sun rising felt like the start of a new day.
They caused this. They push the hero too much to their side that they throw themselves willingly.
But not the position Villain was. Way above, way brutal and full of rage and non-existent mercy.
"You fed the vision of me changing sides, not to your side. All you built was this scenario, this…" they pointed to the horizon "It’s what you wanted to do"
"No" they sounded too desperate. Villain composed themself. Power has changed, but wasn't the only thing they were worried about losing "Improve your interpretation, because I never asked for this destruction. I wanted…"
"You expect that"
"No, Hero. I didn't want any of that"
"You wanted"
"I wanted you by my side. I thought you could be by my side, that you had more self-knowledge than that" they spat, surprising themself. Hero didn't give a clear response though their look.
Villain wondered if they would advance on them as they had done on the other heroes, the vigilantes, the villains…
"You wanted me broken" Hero whispered "You just didn't expect that I would ever break. At least, in the way you thought that I would"
Villain shook their head in denial. They don't like to call that, not when Hero themselves weren't in their best state.
"I've changed. The way you wanted it to happen, but not the version you used to control me"
"I wanted a future for both of us" and it was true, whatever interpretation that phrase gave. An alliance? One of the most influential people in town supporting their side, to get power in hands? The city at the villain feet because the hero was in their arms? Meetings on terraces at twilight, talking about everything and nothing, until the time comes and stop for Villain admire, hold, love their Hero. All of this?
To the point where Villain dreamed about it so much that they wanted it to be real?
They deserved it, if it meant that the basis of the plan remained intact. Even if Hero hated them, they would love the villain despite everything. It wasn't as if love and hate didn't go hand in hand with both of them.
But Villain wondered if they should have been more cautious, noticing in their weariness, in their clamor for more, more and more, in that flame contained, if there was something in the mix of it with the uncertainty of whether or not they were going to win. Persisting so much in this uncertainty made Hero not even care about their own good; it was all for others, for the good of the city, even if they got sick.
That trying to give their life to people who saw them as a piece, that's what Hero did. Even if they feel like a part of them too.
Did Villain not realize how chaotic they were?
Neither Hero nor Villain noticed when Villain took their hand. Hero didn't take it off, but didn't return the squeeze.
"If you want apologies, then I'm sorry. If you want me to say they deserved it, then I say, they deserved it. But I hurt you. I used you. I took advantage of you. And maybe I deserve it too."
Hero made no move to speak. In fact, Villain thought if they even were listening. But the wind beat on them, taking the words with it one way or another. Hero would listen whether they wanted to or not.
"Now you want to do the same to me. Not to them" they broke into a grin "I know you made everyone evacuate before you made the attack. You can't bring yourself to not care"
They tried to hold their wrist. Hero tugged on their hand, looking away in contradiction.
"You wanted so much to have that same coldness. I think you thought of me when you did that" Hero face made them regret saying it.
"Typical of you to take all the credit when you only have part of it" they muttered "You're desperate because you don't know how to fix it"
Villain fought to keep from swallowing hard. They looked into the same cold eyes that Hero gained. Their eyelids low, sometimes the eyebrows curved, like when they wanted to look brave, and how vivid looked to Villain. Such passion carried beauty and a big future.
A part of Villain still finds Hero beautiful and passionate, but they got distracted when noticed the dust in their clothes and the blood that wasn't theirs.
"You want to have the same coldness I had with you in the beginning"
"At first? You had enough to fake a lot of emotions" Villain didn't deny it, at least. The tears wanted to betray Hero impartiality, and Villain could see how much they hated feeling them coming. "Aren't you glad I'm not the straight-laced hero I used to be now?"
"No, I want to understand" scream, insult me, hit me "I can't break you, you weren't broken. I didn't mean to break you. You changed" I had no intention of getting to that level.
Hero stared at them.
"But not everything" before Villain couldn’t hold back touching their face "Not everything"
Hero didn't walk away. But neither were they inclined to their touch. It seemed to be unimportant, or, Villain wanted to believe, that they weren't quite sure how to react. There was a time when a touch like that could set their body on fire.
"I must say that Supervillain is an interesting name for you to adopt" they hold Hero chin "How long does it last?"
Hero took a step back. Their fingers cooled in the wind.
"Until you stop playing this city savior thing"
"Not from the city" Villain looked at them with pity. Must be angered Hero "Of you" they corrected, "For you" by the plan I have to create.
They didn't argue. Just an incredulous, cold, mocking, sad smile.
The kind of smile Hero gave when, without admitting out loud, they wanted to be saved. They turned and walked away before the authorities came, and Villain left them for now.

Sweat pooled on their clothes, which they exceptionally sewed to protect their bodies from moments like these; a funny thing considering they were going to wash today. But Villain was having a hard time breathing, after the run-near-escape they did with the heroes.
Villain heart begged for a break to circulate the blood. Enough to take the dizziness out of their head, maybe make them think clearly instead of acting in panic. Suddenly they abandoned their civilian ways to become the villain.
But how Villain going to do that? They had to pick up bits of plans b and c to get that hidden place . Does it count as a failure not to foresee the possibility of their identity having been discovered by the heroes? Or, by any chance, be lucky enough to be mistaken for a cosplayer? They took off running, and then there was a team of heroes on their heels, right on their day off.
Villain always stayed that way in the end, as if they were always close to fainting with nerves. Now it was to hope that none of the heroes found them.
Oh, God, may they don't find them.
May their death be swift if they are found. Or that there is no death and they are dramatic…
Was it safe to come out of hiding? Did their breathing make a lot of noise? Did they run around aimlessly and they didn't even suspect that that civilian who had a familiar custom on their arms wasn't the villain?
Villain looked outside, not daring to move from their crouched position. They almost put part of themselves out the moment they heard footsteps coming.
Villain drew their knees against the chest, stopping when they needed to expand their lung. Touching their chest, the force of their heart pounded through the layers of fabric.
They sucked in air through their mouth when they heard the footsteps again, letting it out slowly as they walked away. A ringing hit their ears, figuring their blood pressure wasn't one of the best and that they hadn't eaten very well that day.
Maybe they can pose as a cosplayer. They swallowed hard as they considered how pathetic their posture looked.
But plans changed now. They needed to think of a quick one if they didn't want to be the heroes new capture.
They still had a vantage point for a kick. Villain needed to arrange their position so that their foot reached at least their abdomen. But they still have the momentum ready to get up and run. Given how long they were curled up, their bones hurt when stretched out in such a way…
A shadow that fell over them hummed. "Hi"
The plan failed before it started. The hero blocked the way and moved fast to fit into Villain hiding place. They jumped to their feet, only to have Hero arm outstretched beside them, their hand leaning against the wall.
What really stuck their head, however, was the body barrier that the hero themself made with the villain body. A distraction that let their wrist restrained against the wall.
"My dear villain, did you see a figure running past here?" Hero supported some of their weight, leaning closer. At that angle, no one turning the corner could see them. But in Villain view, they couldn't see someone coming "They're giving my colleagues trouble and…" when the hero felt the slightest movement coming from the villain, their body pressed closer to theirs, their mouth whispering. "You know… I had to take some talk with them"
"Fuck" the villain whispered in return, trying to push the hero out of their way, only to be promptly blocked, again. Now another hand of theirs was on their waist. Even with a free hand, the villain knew they had no strength against them.
"Shh" they whispered. Instead, Villain, even as they obeyed, hated how a single word made their body give way. They hoped the hero wouldn't notice their red cheeks "My colleagues are even faster and even more annoying. Sorry for the lack of personal space, by the way"
"What are you…" Villain swallowed as they felt their breath on the back of their neck.
"I would have lost them sooner if I had realized it was you"
"Y-You attracted them…"
"Yes, yes. But I didn't know that soon you would be here, as a civilian. Actually," the hero stared at them. At no time did they seem serious about the situation. Villain could tell they were having the most fun in the world for sure "You're a beautiful civilian"
Villain swore they were trying to look angry. Whether they succeeded or not, the hero was not shaken. On the contrary, they gave one of those smiles when they discovered a weak spot in a fight.
“I missed seeing your face roaming the city, making these plans of yours…”
“For you destroy them later…”
"And oh, you're so tired now" One hand went to Villain jaw, their fingers tucking a piece of their hair behind the ear. The other hand doing the same. Villain didn't even notice how much of their hair fell in front of their eyes until the hero took them off. Well, there were other worries at the time. But now, Villain paid attention to the worried tone with which Hero spoke, unabashedly: "My colleagues exaggerated"
"How did you know it was me?" They needed to change the subject.
Finally appeared seriousness of the hero face as they said firmly:
"I would recognize you from afar"
Ah, but of course the hero did. They shouldn't have been surprised, but a strange feeling arose within Villain knowing that the heroes recognized them without the custom. It wasn't danger though. But that feeling they pushed back to the bottom as it started to reach the surface.
They thought a few weeks away they might alleviate that. But everything went down the drain with the hero.
Villain should joke that with that light costume that screamed heroism in the most clichéd way possible would be something quite attractive, but the villain themself was attracted. Not for the right reasons, but for how well their outfit fit the hero.
The hero recognized them because their custom didn't hide them well. It was because of that. And Villain concern must have been what to do with their identity, for it might not be all the heroes who discovered it, but one of them did.
Villain tried not to pay attention to Hero gaze and smiled as they stared at them. It got difficult when both their hands went to their waist, leaving their wrist free.
They were so sure they could fight Villain, they didn't even need to hold them back. Yeah, because of that, focus on it, don't think beyond it, not on Hero hands on their waist touching them like a lover. No footsteps coming, the wind beat outside, it didn't go in there because it was too small and there was no space between them and the hero; who, by the way, positioned their head next to Villain, their breath hitting their ear and their mouth smiling close to their neck, unlimited to tilt and…
A low chuckle from Hero was the only thing capable of pulling Villain back to reality.
"Come on, Villain. I need you to focus. I'm risking a lot here saving you"
Villain tried to sound angry "Why are you helping me?"
"I can take care of my own enemies myself" Hero pretended to consider, leaving no room for Villain to question them "And, you said you didn't do anything. I'm a fair person" Villain could roll their eyes to that "Now wait here"
The hero freed up some space to look outside. It didn't mean the villain was free to think rationally, one of Hero hands was still on their waist.
Villain looked out. No sign of the team of heroes after their prey.
"Come now. They're gone"
The wind hugged them as they left, catching themselves missing the warmth Hero brought them. Their heart returned to its normal rhythm.
As they started to walk, they were pulled by the waist against another body.
"Where are you going?" Hero tone sounded amused. Villain ignored the knot their stomach made, opening and closing their mouth. They recognized that look all too well "Although I would love to continue this, I need to do my job"
They heard a click just below them. Their hands were inside the handcuffs that the hero was sneaking on. No chance to punch them and take away that fun.
Villain ranged their gaze to the hero eyes.
"You are not going…"
'Oh I will' The hero didn't say, but it was clear.
"You said you weren't going to arrest me"
“I would never leave them to arrest you, nor to prison, that's what I meant” Hero cocked their head to the side “I don't trust them to take you, but, who knows? They might still be around. It's too risky for you”
Despite the amusement, Villain finally found more of a serious tone in their speech. Not that they didn't agree, they preferred anything to be carried away by the heroes. They fight against Hero force, cursing themself for that stupid plan and stupid day and stupid heart, but…
Villain body spun as their hands went back and the cuff wrapped around their other wrist. Hero breath hit their ear.
"I never said I would let you get away with it, my dear little villain" Hero lips, dictated every syllable of their nickname, were inches from the back of their neck "By the way, did you know? I found out I have a secret admirer"

A bitter taste rose in Hero throat. Every time they had to look at Supervillain an alarm rang inside their head, shrilling and cutting off their ears. Personally then, Hero felt capable of spitting their hearts out until their insides stopped hammering.
Despite being impossible, Hero faithfully believed they had a heart problem. It must be something bigger than anxiety. Or was that fear? Expect the worst while is already happening?
Fearing for what they didn't understand, everyone had, didn't they?
But having the gift of knowledge was what made them fear. If Hero didn't know the truth, they wouldn't have the impression they were being watched.
They felt that way when they collected information from villains when they received one. Just basic information, heroic mission stuff.
Supervillain was an enigma, a mystery that no one dared to unravel for a long time. But Hero did, without telling anyone, and now they keep secrets too.
However, they wondered at times, 'Do Supervillain know that I know?'
Supervillain must have been thinking while staring at the hero in an expression they've never seen before 'This is my kid?'

OHNYGOD YOUR WRITING IS SO COOL DJDNKSSN
I just read the one where hero toppled down the building AND BY GOD THAT WAS AMAZING. I love how you wrote the hero in that, and the guilt they had as well as the villain's logical response to it. It was fucking brilliant. I hope you write more stuff like that, I absolutely love reading it, and I'll definitely be gushing about it to my friends!!!

Fraternizing - Part 3
Part I Part II
"Not a good position for your spine" A voice hummed close to their ear, almost making the hero stand up and throw a punch if it weren't for the familiarity.
Instead, Hero turned their head mid-sentence, unable to turn their body with another one glued behind them and an arm extended by their side. The space that remained allowed only to watch Villain amusement with their fright.
"Fuck, Villain" Hero remained in whispers. The villain didn't move, only grew their smile.
"Hi"
"What are you…"
"It hurts just seeing your spine like this" here, meters away and height of a vast field, which Hero remained for who knows how long patrolling.
The hero 'protested' when they got up, trying not to give a reason for the pain and relief of their bones moving after a long time paralyzed. The villain, who was inches away from their body, breathing over their shoulder, was now exhaling their breath too close. The villain seemed more leaning on the barricade than intentionally trapping Hero.
But Villain intentions have always been difficult to decipher. One of Hero tasks involved guessing which ones currently prevail.
"You could be stealing, you could be planning, taking hostages, but you're here. By the way, I know your last plan was pretty average" the hero pushed themself off the barricade, making the villain put their hands behind their back.
"The execution was average, because" they shrugged, feigning indifference, "Someone didn't show up. That overbearing hero came and…"
Hero mind didn't catch the rest of the sentence. Not while the screws turned too late to forward the rules and memories they shouldn't forget. A week passed with their new routine, every night thinking about their conversation with Mentor, thinking about Villain, about Supervillain, about their future, to forget everything now. They could no longer meet with Villain, but nothing stopped Villain from finding them, and... Hero was not prepared for this.
'Do I need to tell you it won't end well for you?' No, they didn't need Mentor's voice echoing through their head reinforcing what they already knew.
This is not good.
"Yes…" Hero shook their head, coming back to reality where Villain stopped talking and stared at them. Shit, how long had they been staring at them like that?
"I asked where you've been"
Well, either they were with Mentor listening to their new schedule, or they were huddled in their room reflecting all the contradictions of their feelings and how to deal with it from now on. The usual. Totally safe and not at all disturbing to make Hero anxious.
Oh, and these feelings were for them. Of all the people, the hero will fall in love with the villain, who could do a lot of things if they know. Things that didn't cross Hero mind until Mentor said them aloud.
Hero didn't believe it at first. Of course, they would never tell Villain that they fell in love with them, but they didn't reach the level of fear for their life.
They thought Mentor gave an exaggerated warning to ensure their caution, and he shouldn't meddle in Hero personal decisions; caffeine must be messing with his brain begging for a rest after a bad night's sleep, over meetings, paperwork, and, now that they've figured it all out, the hero. But not for Hero to say that aloud. They felt guilty for making him more stressed than usual, and, despite everything, Mentor was someone they trust.
But the last few days have passed, their questions swirling around their head, and they couldn't help but doubt everything they heard. Just having those feelings was the result of your carelessness. At the end of the day, both were still enemies, and the next day, and over and over again.
But now, it made Hero vulnerable.
"As beautiful as your eyes are, this silence is getting long"
And they did it again. The Hero blinked a few times before looking at the villain face staring back at them. Their feet moved away.
"I've been working" they straighten their spine and voice "I see you had a good result since your plan was average"
"Execution, and may I know, just out of curiosity, which one of my colleagues bothered you that much? I haven't been updated from any mega plans…"
"Why do you want to know?"
Villain stared at them, taking notes of the sudden change in posture.
"I haven't seen you in two weeks" It was also strange that the two of them saw each other almost every week. Even more Villain realized that "Are you that confident to leave me alone to make my plans?"
"Someone will do this job" the hero planned to turn and walk, but somehow the villain lifted their finger at the right second to make them stop. And damn, Hero couldn't. Just that subtle touch, the lightest skin against their body, melted them inside, it's a matter of time to happen externally. They imagined what it would be like if they touched more, if they looked at each other more... How could something like that be so lethal to his safety?
"What do you mean someone is going to do it?"
"I have other things to do"
"It's not just you" the villain countered "Why? Change your position? Grounded you for letting me escape?" They scoffed.
Hero body froze the moment they opened their mouth to defend, before processing what they heard. They gaped, speechless. A disdainful smile appeared on Villain lips, which made their insides heat up. The sight pleased Villain.
"Or am I wrong?"
In fact, they didn't think Villain noticed. Only Mentor did, because he knew Hero actions to know what their potential was. Sometimes they won, sometimes they lost. But the way they 'lost', on the specific occasion they'd last encountered the villain, he'd realized how Villain got away too easily.
Villain found it all too fun to stop, even if their plans for today are different. They are often late for Hero sake, one way or another.
"They changed my schedule. You were already used to me"
Villain cocked their head to the side.
"And you weren't," they snapped. "You think I'm up late doing my schemes because it's fun? No, it's because you're a pain in the ass"
"I think it's a win to both of us"
Villain gave the impression to say something, but changed to
a grin "Apparently your Mentor didn't like it. It's still weird to me"
Hero didn't answer anything as they stared, again, at them. Trying to decipher through their eyes what is not told. They shouldn't. They shouldn't continue the conversation.
'you've forgotten who we're dealing with'
They shouldn't stare at Villain for so long.
But…
"Why?" Hero asked anyway.
"I thought after our last date you'd be even more anxious to see me. I think it was just me"
Ignore the almost sadness in their voice. Ignore it…
"Were you looking forward to me kicking your ass?"
"If I thought about it, the positions would be reversed. But no" a lock of Hero hair went behind their ear, guided by Villain fingers brushing their skin "I even imagined you were afraid, but I didn't think it would go away"
"I... I didn't disappear" Hero tried to argue. They weren't supposed to be standing still while Villain touched them. They will use you. "I shouldn't be doing it anyway"
Villain raised an eyebrow in a silent question.
"It's already too risky for me to be here talking to you instead of fighting"
"So why don't we?" Villain spoke in the same tone of voice. This time, the smile faded. "I take a risk too, you know. I think if I fought you more, and attacked you while you were distracted with your crooked spine, everything would go faster."
Hero swallowed hard.
"I ask you the same thing. What was the idea of just disappearing without explanation? Was it yours or did your mentor force you to do it?"
They shouldn't be there. They shouldn't, shouldn't...
"Don't worry so much about Mentor. I already thought I should focus on my work, especially when I let you slip out of sheer stupidity" don't talk too much, don't talk too much...
Villain seemed to consider them, seeing their insides writhing, battling which conflict paid attention first.
"Do you still want to fight?" Hero asked.
"No" a sigh escaped Villain lips. Their hand was going to one of their pockets "I came to get you"
The hero couldn't ask what they meant when they lunged and, from one second to the next, there was something pricking their neck.
Hero reacted too late when whatever was in the syringe got into their blood. They pushed Villain away, taking the empty syringe from them. Villain grabbed their wrists and pulled them apart, pulling Hero toward the wall and blocking with their own body, making it impossible to receive a kick.
"W-What is it, Villain?"
"I told the truth. It would have been easier if I had caught you by surprise right away" Gritting their teeth, Hero persisted in their debate even in Villain grip. Villain leaned, just as Hero body started to get heavy. "Besides," they were too close for their taste, whispering close to their face and against Hero wide eyes, "Supervillain asked me to be fast. That was risky"
Hero heart hammered, vibrating through their body starting to go numb.
"What the fuck, Villain…" There was no way to disguise the desperation in their voice.
Villain smiled.
"Breathe, darling. It's the only way to communicate exclusively with Mentor. So breathe and close your eyes. You need to rest for now"
Mentor? Supervillain?
No… They are the vulnerable one for having feelings for Villain. The Mentor wouldn't be… They wouldn't stay that way because they fell in love with Supervillain, right?
No, no, no. They need to get out… Fuck. Their eyes watered recordingMentor speech.
They will use you.
The effect of the tranquilizer hit, just before Villain carried them bridal style and walking off to who-knows-where.

But… What they…
Nothing came as they stared at each other. The only sounds came from afar, but enough to grow silence. Villain was the first to break eye contact and help a civilian out of the rubble. Hero throat remains dry all the time they watched.
It's not how it should work. It's not them who would play the savior...
"It's not a good time to say who should be bad and who shouldn't, I don't know if you noticed that"
What they’ve done?
Their strength has broken things that are impossible to break before. It's not that Hero hasn't done more things… Exaggerated. But…
No one ever looked at the hero with fear. Now, the child and mother who ran away ran more from the hero than from the villain. And that's ridiculous. It 's…
It's not how it worked...
The hero tried to approach the civilian, ignoring their own body trembling, but the kind of look they got was not one a hero should get. Everyone who passed, limping, bruised, covered in dust, took a drastic detour around them with a mixture of horror, fear, and indignation in their eyes. If there were any words directed at them, got lost to the wind and their own surprise.
It would be a weird reaction another time, what is the problem of some dust? Nothing so serious. But they knocked a building down with one punch, just a few moments before there were only screams and Villain deep breathing, while conjuring a force camp. Now…
The villain ground their teeth, barely looking at the hero to reserve how they felt about the situation.
Evil, coming by someone who surely didn't screw up everywhere they walked.
Always an arrogant smile plastered on Hero lips, knowing there will be acclamation for whatever they did, knowing that the defeat of any of their enemies would be the right thing to do and be damned the rest.
But it was also the moment of civilians life to stop what they were doing because of a random fight that the hero started. People were torn between celebrating and screaming in despair.
That was the first time the destruction was on a drastic level.
"Evil" the villain chuckled weakly to themselves after the civilian climbed onto the crumbles. They didn't say anything else.
Hero stared at them perplexed. Nothing around them makes sense. What they’ve done?
"But…" but, everything around them was real. Whether they like it or not "It wasn't supposed to be like this… It was an accident. You were making a mess…"
"I did a mess?"
The villain turned around, preventing the hero from continuing to speak.
They couldn't bear to see the hero figure like that, like a puppy who unlearned to walk. It's an inconvenient time. So sweet and innocent…
It was so pathetic and frustrating that Villain wondered how they managed to do this job. How could they still do this and manage to hide behind the shining figure? Everything was possible when there were words of a noble cause, it seems. The fault turns to anyone except them.
"Every single time you do shit like this is an accident?" there is no argument that Hero could use against this. It's a fact the villain was tired of "Put on a whole show for the town and leave the mess behind?" Villain voice broke the air, their fists clenched at their sides "Will you please help the civilians you're supposed to protect now?"
The hero tried, but either the civilians turned away from them and went out on their own, or they accepted Villain hand. "I didn't want to do that…"
"It's funny how you say that, at this very moment" they gestured around "To say who's supposed to be bad" Villain looked at them, body turned away, clothes swaying with the wind that started to come "I'm sick of people putting their trust in you. You destroy everything around and use the 'protecting civilians and fighting evil' card. But when I look back, you're not even there to help the places you destroy. People are hurt, Hero. Can you understand that? Because I do, and even I have my limits when came to my plans"
The villain would love to see Hero without their confidence that destroyed buildings and stirred up screams. But how long have they not wondered if one day Hero strength would be a little too far and end up breaking them instead?
What if the hero decides to try something else with their enemies? What lies will be beneath Villain 'accident'?
Villain looked away before they finished. No patience to listen to excuses, justifications, or self-consoling words.
"You are a villain" was the first shout that the hero managed to make.
The villain considered, half impatient and half angry. Hero was nothing but an insignificant little thing trying to make a fuss when things didn't go their way. Suddenly the attention they were getting from the audience, who were desperately trying to run for their lives, wasn't good.
"Actually," Villain sounded uninterested, "I'm doubting I'll continue to be the only bad guy here"
"What are you talking about?"
Villain weren't worried about answering their questions, nor paying attention to the frenzy that their eyes had and the tremor in their body "I always expect that from people like you, all kinds of self-centeredness" a grin crossed their lips "What will be your justification? The great good?"
"S-stopping you" Hero felt they shouldn't answer when the villain gave them a half-second smirk. “It's what the heroes do"
"Uhm, I know what heroes really do with their power” the hero tried to speak, but Villain continued “Now, in return, part of the building was demolished over a street. Miraculously held up in the air by a force field. But" a finger went to their chin, then pointing at them "It wasn't your force field that held the building. It was your fist that brought it down"
"But I…" What have they done? What have they done? What have they done…
"As far as I know, I haven't seen any dead" let there be none, the villain thought. They managed to conjure a force field in time, but it wouldn't hold for long enough. There were still civilians running as the wreckage began to fall again "If I have to be honest, little hero, I've done questionable things in my life" they cocked their heads to the side, looking down at their own gloved hand, the smudged palms of dust "But I will never put a civilian life at risk to achieve what I want. As some of you heroes like to do"
They stopped a meter away. Hero didn't notice in time that they were walking, while caught in the villain serious gaze and that their body was shaking.
"That's the main difference between you and me" the villain looked up again "But these are things your ignorance makes you aware of. Because if I were evil, I should kill you right now and reveal to the world what you really are. So that no one else gets hurt because of you"
The hero flinched. "P-Please..."
Villain didn't change their posture, watching the hero opening and closing their mouth.
“It's not like that"
The villain continued to stare at them above them, shoulders relaxed for the first time since it all happened, but an inexpressible expression.
"That's another difference between you and me" Villain lowered their hand. "You would kill me if I did something like that, wouldn't you?"
Neither of them needed an answer to know. Now the silence came, people far away to hear anything.
What have they done? What have they done? What have they…
“I hope you remember that. Because if there were no deaths, it wasn't because of you" Villain turned their body in the opposite direction from where the civilians ran. After all, they had to go before authorities see them "It was because of me"
They started to walk, ignoring Hero presence again.
Hero noticed they couldn't stabilize their hands. They looked at them, their fists scarred and the palm smeared with sweat and dust, trembling without their control.
They heard a sob escape their throat. They tried to take a deep breath, if only to inhale smoke and dust. But they could not silence (ambulance? Police?) the approaching sirens, coming for them.
What did they… Their hands clenched into fists, starting to gather energy around them. What have they done? God, what did they do? They didn't want to hurt...
Their feet moved away, muttering… Something, they didn't process what they were saying, they just knew they felt exhausted and nervous, feeling their power coming. They didn't want…
They didn't want to. What have they done? What have they done? What have they…
A pair of hands grabbed them from behind. In Hero consciousness, they waited for a greater force on their wrists by the cops or the agents themselves. They didn't struggle as they were pressed to the ground, brought to their knees.
“Please… Please…” They didn't know what to say as something thin pierced their skin.
“Everyone stay away” Hero didn't expect to be Villain doing that, screaming in a concerned voice they never heard before. "They're gonna explode. Go"
"Please…" the pain kept going, and Hero felt their power restrained.
"Quiet. I have to take care this myself"
"I'm sorry… I just wanted to… Help…" Hero coughed and stared up at the smoke-blocked sky. Made by them. "God I didn't want to…" Hero cried "I want to be better in my next life"
Villain squeezed their shoulder.
"You're not going to die" instantly, Hero realized the sharp pain was too sharp for a knife. But suitable for a clear liquid to come out of the syringe into their blood. “I just need to take action before you hurt more people…”
Villain silenced them with a pat on the head. Hero didn't feel the comfort that it should have, but started to relax as their body became heavier and stopped feeling the tears flowing, not catching when their mask was taken from their face.
Villain voice cut off mid-sentence, staring in amazement at Hero youthful face. "And for God's sake, how old are you?"
The hero wanted to argue they had completed the age to be considered an adult by the laws, but the darkness took them completely.
Short Prompt #383
"You're supposed to be evil!" - the hero desperately exclaimed, watching as the villain rescued a group of civilians from a toppling building. A building... that Hero had accidentally sent down onto them.
Villain scoffed, returning a crying child to its mother and watching as the two ran to safety. Then, they turned to face their nemesis, unimpressed. "Am I?"

Bad omen
Part II
TW: Blood
"Something very bad is going to happen"
An old phrase, full of nostalgia, which Hero stopped saying when had no effect; no one believed in their power or curse. They never managed to pick a appropriate name for it.
Hero, in exchange, had been told as an imaginative child, but after high school, they learned what happens when people think you are crazy. Otherwise, Hero would believe they were. They would not let the stress of being a hero come with it. So Hero wasn't going to put their last hopes on the group of villains that cornered them.
They were desperate to find a way out, marks and wounds all over the body, from punches and kicks and blows that Hero tried to fight back. Their instinct tried to tell something under the wind hitting their ears, but they wouldn't listen while they were outnumbered.
Now, thinking a little bit clear, some of that anxiety wasn't anxiety at all. The sweat didn't come only from fatigue. But a macabre nostalgia.
Hero believed in scientific theories, superstitions, curses, myths... Any name for what they could do. That thing lived under their skin, trying to get out, whispering in their ears, making their blood cold and unable to move. After all that, they started to see shadows in the corners of their eyes. When that happened with such intensity, only them could be standing in the end. Although is questionable if Hero, the pain in their leg and blood falling off the nose, would do.
"Truly" Villain took a step back, still with a good view of their hero "A very bad thing is going to happen"
Hero swallowed hard, their eyes running over their trembling hands. "T-There's something... You have to go. Now"
"Nobody knows you're here, Hero" Villain 2 said "But we all know what you've done to us, every time you've got in our way. Hopefully, at some point or another…" they twirled one of their guns in hand "We would do the same, wouldn't we?"
A shiver ran through Hero body, one that must have been because of how long they would stay there, moaning in pain, until someone realized they were gone, in time for the lack of blood not to kill them.
But they will kill them? Maybe they just wanted to scare the shit out of them to the point they start to see things, right? I mean, It’s all a trick, isn’t it?
That dizziness, though, wasn't from the fall, and the shapes in the corners of their eyes weren't hallucinations.
Hero knew too much to believe those lies. Those ones they tried to believe all their life. At times hit them on their back and stay there, became their second shadow.
"You are weaker than before, by the way," Villain commented. Hero gave them a venomous look, ignoring the rest of the villains who share the same amusement. They really wished that just looking at them could fall hard to the ground.
"Why… Did you guys drop me from the building?"
"It was an accident actually" Villain 3 eyes went to the six-story building "Like you didn't fight us too? How are you still awake?"
They were right. Hero wouldn’t endure that fall like…
"I don't…" Their ribs ached with the effort to breathe. Hero swallowed, shaking their head. They always expected… conflicts, it's what you got for having enemies. But… "What do you want?"
"Many things, maybe today’s lesson is…"
Hero grunted, as low as they could when they felt themselves trembling more. They thought if they could have the strength to attack them one last time. How much they wanted to take their fun out of seeing them miserable, taking the same amount of blood they took...
The wind brought whispers from all directions. Hero looked around, even though they knew they had no owners.
All sense of time and space become lost in brief seconds. Suddenly, Hero didn't know what time it was, didn't know if they were still in the alley, if they'd dragged them to another neighborhood, to someone lair, or if they were still on the side of the building; if all of that was happening in the same day or passed weeks.
They could feel, actually, every solid shape around as they projected into space and remained standing. Heard the macabre stories the voices told, increasing their strength to know more. The thing is, when they heard a few sentences, Hero couldn’t help themselves to stop. The hero doesn’t have a choice to not listen.
It's too much for a person to know that Hero, when got back to normal, didn't remember anything.
But the heavy feeling that there was something inside them was always there.
Weak sometimes, but always there.
"Hero…" a thin voice reached them. They didn't hear anything around them either. Looked up at the group, guessing they were saying something when Hero wasn't paying attention.
They would lie if they deny the wish to make them pay, because none of them ever felt guilty about their actions, ever.
Would be a huge lie either if say that they trying to stop that, despite, at the same time, don’t have the slightest idea how will end.
Their hand curled into a fist.
"Go… Now… Please..."
"I think their head hit too much…" In the ironic tone, Villain 4 rotated their finger in a circle near the head, looking at their companions. Villain 2 just nodded seriously.
"Get out of here" Hero forced themselves to speak louder, holding back a sob "Get out"
"Why?"
"Just…" a bigger whisper in their right ear. Hero jumped, looking to the side and seeing nothing. They turned to Villain again wide eye "Just get out of here, please"
Villain cocked their head to the side between interest and amusement. But mostly, indifferent at what Hero was saying.
"Why is that, little hero? Does something bother you?"
"You've got what you want, now…"
"No, no, no…" Villain spoke calmly "It's not up to you to decide this"
Hero tried to get up. Villain watch them fail again.
"Why are you shaking like that?" Hero didn't know if it was a genuine question or not, but they ground their teeth anyway, mostly in pain.
"I have to go… This… There's something inside me" They looked down at their hands, fill of blood and sweat in the palm, their red fists  ``There's something inside me and it's coming… It's… it's too strong. And I don't know what will happen, you had to believe me. Please, just leave"
"What is inside you?" One of them asked.
Stop. Just stop. Not now, please. Not now…
When then? What will happen if you are at their mercy?
What a difference it will make, isn't it? You are defeated, you are weak, no one is waiting for you at home and no one will save you. Why hold back?
Hero swallowed hard. I don't know what will happen if I let this thing out...
"They went crazy for good" They heard the comment.
Hero jumped and looked at the group of villains staring back at them again, now a more serious look and not as amused as before. Sometimes Hero would also end up talking aloud without realizing it.
"What the fuck?" Villain 3 murmured.
" You guys won, that's great. I'll spend a whole week recovering while you have fun. Now let me...
"I hadn't thought of that, to tell you the truth" Villain 2 commented "But we still want to chat with you about certain things that will change from now on. Since then your head is unstable…"
"No, no, no. Stay there" Hero took a deep breath "No, not now. You have to believe me" lowered their head, letting out a cry. They dug the nails into their hair as if they could stop all that if they pulled their scalp for real, "What to do? What… "
Hero grunted loudly as the whispers increased their pitch and tickled their skin.
And stopped. Their breathing became shallow and silent again, the spine still bent. Villain no longer saw any pained expression on their face, only their eyes closing. The shaking stopped too.
The villains looked at each other.
"Let's just take them" Villain concluded "Before Supervillain…"
"Go" Hero whispered "Now"
They clenched their fists tightly, and the figures became shadows advancing upon them. The omen is no longer just an omen, but a certainty.
After all, Hero was looking for a way out, and they managed to find one. Suddenly, that is what made their feet no longer touch the ground.
"V-Villain…" one of the villains commented, watching Hero body in the air.
"What…"
"No one really believes" they sighed and opened their eyes, not looking at them, but straight ahead. "When I say something bad is going to happen" And everything around the Hero and the villains faded to the shadows.
As usual, only Hero was standing to walk away.

Fraternizing
“I know you think this is stupid…"
“It is stupid, Hero”
“B-But nothing happened”
Mentor didn’t bother to say any word to that. Hero knew him well enough to decipher what his eyes meant. He slowly sat back down, easing the frenzy of anger that had left him energized, and propped his elbows on the table.
Hero fought the urge to run over the words, but they face the consequences of their decisions. Even if what they wanted most is to disappear.
“It’s purely platonic. I didn’t… None of this was on purpose"
“I really hoped not. I would be worried if it were a new way to get information, to seduce your enemy until you fell in love…”
“Wouldn’t it be different than some of us would?”
“… Since no one else in the agency would ever think such a thing” Mentor narrowed his eyes at their commentary. “Do you have any idea what you’re saying?”
The question sounded low and somewhat rhetorical, but Hero had the impulse to answer. “I never intended to start this in the first place”
“Fraternizing with the enemy is more than that” Mentor tilted his column forward. Not that Hero doesn’t already feel so small being looked at from below “Have you forgotten what I already told you about most of them? Do I need to tell you it won’t end well for you? I need…”
He closed his eyes. Hero realized with sudden horror that Mentor was the one scrambling for words. He always knew what to say and how to say it, he never stopped out of nowhere to sigh or pull himself together. He always knew, always knew, he was once a superhero that a lot of heroes these days look up to.
When they entered the room, Mentor recognized the signs when Hero was about to say something, considering that they wanted to see him so early in the morning, in the middle of the week, which already felt eternal to him. The person who was at that table didn't even look like he'd ever played on the field. He looked like he read too many documents, drank too much coffee, and got too little rest.
Hero needed to tell someone, right away to whoever had discovered them, while no one else knew they had – oh God – fallen in love with Villain. “I didn’t say any of this to anyone. But it’s not because I…”
Mentor opened his eyes and sighed again, circling the table from where he was before.
They didn’t doubt that Mentor might have always suspected. Since he’s already been in their place. He taught them a lot; how to handle their duties, how to appear in public, and everything they knew about Supervillain, even though they felt he didn’t tell them everything, no matter how much Hero asked for. Hero, on the other hand, knew things about him no one else in the building did.
But never, in all that time, did they see Mentor like that. And never felt scared of him like now.
“I don’t want to defend Villain, but they…” wouldn’t be something they would do, but Hero immediately chided themself “They wouldn’t go to that much trouble for doing this. It’s not the way that they act"
" Do I need to tell you that all of this will only leave you exposed to whoever will be happy to betray you?”
Hero could bury themself right now and wouldn’t make a difference. It would be better, actually. But they had to face the consequences as a hero should do a hero who fell in love for a villain…
“Did you do something?"
"No”
“Did they try to do anything to you?”
“No” Hero gulped, trying to keep their voice steady “The only thing that happened was….” when Villain pinned them against the wall. ’I’m not into these little games’, Hero once said, the red in their face and the push they gave when both heard footsteps coming; the smile that Villain gave afterward as if knew the reason for the urge to keep distance “Nothing"
Hero felt there was something more. They could feel it when Mentor got too frustrated with something.
"I’m sorry to disappoint you, sir” They look down “I agree with every decision that is made from this”
Mentor face plastered with disappointment caused the crack in their heart. Hero was waiting for the consequences, but not that look.
Maybe that was the last day they would wear that uniform? Mentor will fire them?
“It’s you I’m worried about”
His eyes paced along with the room, wandering through countless ideas. Hero gave his due silence, suppressing the guilt for causing him more stress than he already had. Damn, he has bags under his eyes, more dark than usual. It’s because of that topic he was like this? They didn’t want to worry…
Suddenly anguish pierced their chest when thinking about this whole situation. Didn’t Mentor also realize that they weren’t enjoying the situation as well?
Will anyone really think, after all Hero has done, that they would throw it all away like it was worth the risk?
“Please,” Mentor lowered his tone, as if finally getting tired again “Don’t make me say that kind of thing to you. Don’t tell me you think because you have some kind of understanding with Villain, that you’ve forgotten who we’re dealing with…”
“Do you think I’m stupid?” Not even Mentor expected their reaction, but he didn’t back down. Hero doesn’t either “I would never do anything like that. Never.”
Mentor was suddenly calm, and everything went silent so that his voice could be heard. Not really believing in anything they were saying. “I trusted you when you asked me for permission to fight them all you wanted, and look what happened. What if this goes to Supervillain? To Thief? To Other Villain? To my superiors?”
“I didn’t want this situation as much as you want” Their body jumped up from the chair “Are we talking about the same person, by the way? Are there any other Supervillains out there or someone worse who would do this? No one else knows but you…”
“Hero” they were finally interrupted “They may not know, but it won’t make a difference at all”
He closed his eyes. Hero wished they could do the same and all of that would be resolved.
“What good could come of trusting someone who will have every reason to deceive you?” something in Mentor tone made Hero falter “You know, that’s the burden of this lifestyle, Hero. I think I’ve told you before, haven’t I? I told you things from my own experience and how the consequences can be greater than they seem"
The shiver returned. Mentor words dragged them back into that fear. Mentor veered to the other side of the room.
“We can find people to trust when we feel like we’re going crazy” under this light, Hero saw his vacant gaze, focused on whatever he was thinking “Bu It’s very easy to meet someone willing to have one hand with a knife behind your back and the other on your shoulder"
Hero tried to tell themself that the urge to cry was no big deal. Mentor paid no attention.
“Anything from us to them will be a weapon. It’s just a matter of how long they will play with you, until they decide it’s time to pull the trigger” His head turned to Hero. Now they had a pitiful look “I always trusted anyway that you could handle”
“Then you can’t blame me completely”
An instinct told them to apologize; too weak for Hero to listen.
“I’ve had this for a long, long time. Nothing happened because I’m not dumb to be fooled” Hero pointed at him, proud and fearful with a look that turned somber “You like to say all this as if I’ve never been competent at what I do, as you love so much to tell me. But, suddenly, I’m not anymore, is it?”
Mentor watched them breathe shakily. Without a response, Hero felt their words out of their mouth.
“And do you want to know something else too? Villain is much more than what people say, yes. I think we have more important things to discuss than that”
They froze at hearing Mentor laugh.
A strange old sound came, trying to imitate what a laugh sounded like. Not even in an ironic way, but rusty.
“Oh, but this, Hero, is important” Mentor looked at one of the paintings in his office. "Do you know what will happen?”
Hero didn’t dare answer.
“When you’re being destroyed from the inside out by someone you let in, you won’t be prepared. Not like it would be if you lost a fight” he smiled, not at all comforting as almost seems “Because you were taught that the enemy comes from outside. And after this? Will you be able to expose yourself to someone with as much confidence as before?”
Finally, a good argument, coherent and effective, surfaced from the back of their head.
“Clearly it’s you who didn’t make it"
Hero stared at him. Mentor stared back.
"Excuse me?"
His expression makes the Hero want to give up and just apologize. Their future was at stake, but…
They also knew Mentor too well. They always had questions about their past, about who they really were.
"That’s what happened to you, isn’t it? Why didn’t you ever tell me?”
Mentor narrowed his gaze, but whatever he wanted to say, he kept to himself “Because I never expected you to fall in love with your enemy”
“As you did” His fists clenched, and Hero saw; the anger contained when they hit the right topic “What happened? Was an old friend? Was Supervillain?” Mentor tried to cut them, but the irony was on the tip of Hero tongue. “You and Supervillain…”
What has Supervillain really done to you? That’s what Hero always wanted to ask, but never insisted because they knew it was useless. But if Mentor expected so much honesty from Hero, they also demanded of him.
"Me and Supervillain what?”
Hero could. Just ask, is there any hypocrisy here?
“Nothing” they looked away. “It makes no difference to know. It’s not like you would tell me anyway"
It was Mentor turn to swallow hard and take his time to respond, while his head thought of various things and Hero stared at him in silence, trying to decipher what they might be.
“Great” he tried to be calm, but Hero also knew when Mentor wanted to close a subject, “We have things to take care of, indeed”
Neither of them said anything for what seemed like an eternity. He closed his eyes for half a second. Hero swallowed, not out of fear as before.
Hero looked back at him. The anger was no longer there but concern, and they wondered if it hadn’t been there before this whole time.
“I don’t want you to do the same as I did” He walked to the door and opened "Go to your train, Tomorrow we will discuss certain changes from now on”
It’s for your own good. Mentor didn’t say it, Hero could hear it from his mind.

Always Running - Part 2
First part here
---------------
Villain was extremely grateful that they didn't appear to Hero before the civilians, just to have the honour to watch the scene.
It could be the cue to take care of their disguise as a civilian, as one who would have witnessed what happened two corners away, where Hero was last seen and ran as far as their lungs allowed.
They followed those few meters until Hero stopped, still ready to go as long as they needed, counting on their luck in passing through the obstacles in a more practical way. It would take time for Villain to follow the pirouettes and jumps before Hero disappeared. Even if, according to their amateur knowledge of parkour, Hero movement is slow compared to their common days. Their chest heaved, he looked sideways, still deciding which way to go, as if they had to improvise at the last minute.
But Villain gave... No, they were forced, for the sake of their success, to admit that they underestimated that hero. They haven't made things any easier since last time..
Who knows where Hero will be tomorrow? How much have things changed from the perspective of Hero since their last meeting to know that they were behind them? How Villain would have predicted that they would have to deal with a hero who just didn't stop quiet...
But by chance, they stayed away, trying to assimilate what was happening when they saw three civilians nearby, approaching without Hero noticing.
For Hero, the type of craving they felt was different from when they were in uniform. It was a different adrenaline and very contradictory for them, who learned to tame while wearing the mask. Very different when it is in its original nature. The scenarios, their way of walking and even the intonation of their voice must be different. They had to act differently when performing in public, like when they said something too loud and all heads turned to them or say that their request came wrong.
Hero didn't have so many problems at this level anymore, but whenever they could, they avoided being the center of attention. They were always very shy, but that trait was reinforced with things that reminded them of not-so-good situations in the past, memories of their high school years.
No, they didn't get along in public. People felt sorry, or thought it was cute, or made fun of...
And don’t know how to react under praises.
Hero tried to recover their breath and calm their heart. Suddenly, they forgot for a second that they were the hero and not an ordinary civilian.
After they emerged from their mini mental breakdown, Hero heard their name being called and saw the civilian take a pen out of their pocket, and another two behind, staring at them from afar and trembling -- not the way they trembled when Hero saved everyone from the building.
If there was another danger, which was the first thing that crossed their mind, they didn't realize it in time. They were nervous.
The civilian was also nervous, but in a different way.
"H-Hi" Civilian voice was low.
“Err... H-Hi” Hero returned in the same tone.
"Is it really you?"
"Me who?" Hero automatically knew, but asked anyway.
“Hero. I… I saw you just now”
“Ah” Hero scratched the back of their neck “Y-Yes”
They cleared the throat when hears himself shutter. It wasn't time to use the voice of Hero true identity, but of the city protector.
“S-Something happened… ”
"Oh my God" One of the civilians murmured.
Hero dug their nails deeper into their neck. Civilian smiled, remembering Hero to smile too, even with their face turning red.
“I… We, we really like what you did” the third civilian said in a louder tone “I mean, about the building. You were amazing”
Hero disagreed, but nodded anyway. They would have no way to disagree while they were lost in their words. Sucked in more air, moving their chest up and down until they came back at a normal pace and distributed the blood across their body to deplete their cheeks. The mask could cover part of the red, but that was a practice they did regardless of what persona was in the moment.
“Ah, thank you… It's my job…”
"You are shorter in person" the second civilian laughed.
Hero didn't hear it, but a low laugh echoed a little distantly.
"I know, I am smaller personally" Hero flinched. Hearing their own voice made them break down again, as a reminder that they were not always the hero.
They smiled and didn't know if it was out of politeness or automatic. Under the uniform, they were shaking. Much more than civilians were. If the weather was colder, their body was already warm with the heat wave that descended from head to toe. But they don't feel ashamed. The civilians are admiring them. Them. How should they react?
They just couldn't believe it was happening and never imagined it would happen. Shit. They must have looked awkward. The look they gave was one that (Hero's Name) would never take in their life.
"Give me an autograph?"
Hero blinked.
"What?"
“Let me take a picture? Very quick?"
"Me? With me?" Hero pointed to themself.
“Oh, my God…” Villain murmured from afar before adjusting their clothes once more and running a hand through the hair.
"Yes, please?"
"Oh, sure?" How to make an autograph? "What do I put there?"
The civilian stared at them.
"Your name?"
“Ah, yes” Hero swallowed, remembering to lift their head and straighten their posture. Look less pathetic as possible.
But how? In my handwriting? Better not, not in the lyrics of (Hero's Name). But how will anyone know their identity by letter? It's okay if it's in crooked letters, because that's how their handwriting was...
“Hero” Villain called to Hero, who was still standing and paralised, coming from nowhere, and turned to the civilians “Guys, I think they are a little tired, give them space. They just saved our ass just now...” they joked, looking the most relaxed in the face of the situation and according to their disguise.
Not literally. No one was at risk of life. But Hero didn't know, nor did they know that there was another civilian there and was behind them. Why was there a civilian behind them? Why were they there…
Hero looked at them again, at the civilian in front of them. It was the first time that Hero spoke directly to a civilian, because that city was beginning to realize that it existed despite their efforts to go unnoticed.
People will notice eventually, almost nothing goes unnoticed by the streets and on the camera lenses. There has never been a video made by a journalist that is clearer than watching it on the mobile phone footage of nearby civilians.
"Oh yes. Sorry, I just… I just wanted to say that you are incredible, really” the civilian said "I'm sorry if I'm bothering you… ”
“Ah, no, no, no…” that's it, Hero. Make them feel guilty for something they didn't do “No problem” Hero smiled again, trying to be the most cheerful “No, I mean, the autograph. No problem, but thanks. I mean, for the compliment, thanks… I really appreciate”
Hero stopped and swallowed the words.
“Hey, breathe” Villain murmured to them “It's okay, just breathe”
Yes, (Hero's name), it's okay. It's really okay.
"Just breathe"
Without realizing it, Hero followed the slow pace of Villain breathing from a safe distance.
They took a deep breath a third time and wrote their name on the sleeve of their shirt. "There"
"I want one too" the third civilian approached too.
"One what?"
"An autograph"
Oh, God... Villain almost spoke, but was content to roll their eyes. A gesture that Hero noticed from the corner of the eye.
Hero was already melting inside even before that civilian appeared. And sank when recognizing them. Villain saw clearly in their look. In the shape of their face and the shape of their mouth, outlining a smile, the same they gave to them. They have been ingrained in their consciousness since their last meeting.
It was in a second that they recognized Villai and the next doubted their own conviction. Hero could be mistaken, that person was just someone random, smiling in a way that was strangely familiar to them.
"May I take a photo?" another civilian asked.
Villain saw Hero come back to them “Yes, yes, of course. Where…"
The civilian approached and held out their cell phone with one arm with the camera facing the front. Hero smiled, really smiled this time, and made a peace sign with their fingers. They continued to smile after the photo, euphoric for the happiness of the civilians.
Villain grinned to themself, relieved to see them more relaxed, but especially happy with one more piece that they managed to find about that hero. Things made a little more sense, or not. Hero shouldn't necessarily be shy, that should actually be the first time that a civilian has come near. Can be anything.
Villain swore that they would meet again, one way or the other. It wasn't the way they expected it to be - in fact, it was just a fluke. They had a certain regret about how things went the last time.
"Oh my God! Thanks!" the civilian said.
"You're welcome... Well, now I have to go ..."
"I want one too"
Hero didn't notice that Villain was approaching again. They looked up again, finding in their eyes that Villain knew that they recognized. The smile widened.
She remembered to control their breathing again. Somehow,bVillain made them forget to breathe.
Hero looked at their clothes and, unlike what he did with other civilians, wrote quickly, leaving an unreadable handwriting. In some curves the paint didn't even come out. As little as they approached, the breath hit their face. It would be easy if they hugged and took them away. Villain would make them fight for the first time and make sure they wouldn't run away.
They took two steps back as soon as they removed the pen from the fabric, and another three when they felt the presence of civilians again.
"Well..." Hero looked at each face and thought they needed to come up with a plan.
They didn't want to be seen with a bad look, if they started hunting them and Villain ended up not being the only one to do it. There will always be people who have a different view, but as long as what they talked about Hero was theories and questions, they were content to act in the shadows, to get out of places before people saw them. Being in public was not the option, they wouldn't be such a public figure.
Yes, Hero is a coward. But they had to be really good at being a coward.
Their look stopped at Villain. It could be their euphoria at the moment, but Hero didn't see the usual malice, any bodily evidence that they would do something. The laughter could also be due to the red that returned to their face when Hero looked at them.
When Villain smiled, it was genuine.
"Goodbye"
Hero ran out of the alley and the blush did not stop. Villain did not follow them that day.
