Cover Art Guesses
YES!
Time to guess the meaning of the cover art. I'm going to ignore certain things because the artist definitely has a style and you can check their work out at https://www.instagram.com/carloseqo/
Also please take everything I say with a grain of Salt - I like to have fun. And today that means finding references in a picture like its a Static Image in an English Final.
Tumblr media
Firstly: Boy does Hunt look good. Thank Goodness The first book was red and we know that blue is the colour of the book and Hunt isn't actually blue and therefore I can admire the Art.
Does this meant the Third book is House of Shadow and Flame because surely is there was a Water book that one would be blue right? So we might also have our final book title.
Got some Thunder and Lightning vibes - mmmm storm god? I like that.
Wings! yes!
No more crown of thorns!
Look Closely At Hunt's Face... I'll get a close up for you....
Tumblr media
We have some lovely cut outs in terms of flowers and carved porcelain style on his skin - but overall the artist also loves this in other images too - so there is a style there.
He appears to either have horns above each eyebrow, or if you look above the nose it could be a crown or moon.
The shape that isnt really repeated elsewhere in the cover except on the head below him where it looks like eyebrows - but these "horns" go in the opposite direction and they look like Horns.
It could also be a sideways crescent moon though.
The crown could have three points, as light is directly hitting the centre of his face its trick to see the central shape in the middle.
Those eyes? One Bright and the other dark? are these showing that Hunt has mixed ancestry and some hidden secret? It also matches Bryce on the HOEAB cover because she had one eye dark and one eye light. While Bryce's were the whites of the eyes that were dark and light Hunts is the iris.
Tumblr media
Snake? Oh I guess that is some garden of Eden reference? (BUT also, please realise this artist loves snakes so It might just be a snake and same for the crescent in the heart of Hunt's chest.).
Don't talk to me about the Gold crescent whoever did the text overlay for the cover title cut the poor snake out badly out of the moon. Hopefully we can see the image in all its glory like the original CC:HOEAB cover image.
Tumblr media
Wolf Sword perhaps? Is this a reference to Sabine? is this a reference to the wolf sword that had power that Danika wielded for the family in HOEAB? Or is this a reference to another mythical creature? I thought it was the wolf because we have wolves also surrounding him on the edges of the cover.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They appear to be baying and surrounding hunt.
They could also be a reference to other shapeshifters since it has been mentioned that there are more.
A little trickier to see but i'm sure people have already found is the Alicorn! A pegasus unicorn. Aka a reference to Jelly Jubilee (or to Alicorn's in general? maybe? can I get some please?).

Tell me about your theories! Please!
thank you for indulging me nonnie.
OK so there has to be something said for the half half thing going on with hunt. he's got one gold eye and one black, one pointed ear and one rounded. i'm not sure what to make of this exactly but we know hunt's backstory never really got into aside from his mother being killed and him joining the rebellion. so going off that i think there's something about his father maybe being fae (hence the ear). i've always held the theory that either bryce or hunt is the missing asteri sibling.
based off the HoEB ending i'm thinking more and more it's bryce (star power and king of autumn etc etc) BUT i can't discredit the way hunt's past is an enigma.
his arms! one coated in lightening (umbra mortis my love) and the other isn't but holding a snake. why is this the 'fae' side of him?? i don't know but also is he running from something? cursed by something? what is it about this side of him exactly? to me his gaze is set off to the side, unlike the HoEB cover where byrce is looking directly front-ward. could just be artist interpretation but also i doubt it, why would hunt not look to the front like bryce? is he looking at her perhaps? looking into his past? I MUST KNOW. (i take it back my version was just severely low quality)
and onto his chest. we can see in the HoEB cover bryce has a lock in the middle of her chest, and hunt doesn't. instead, he has an almost key looking thing and of course i have eyes and i've maintained that they're mates from the start but this is giving me 'hunt is bryce's missing piece' vibes. and obviously their attempt at being platonic is absolute bullshit.
suffice it to say, i'm very excited about the release of HoSB and i apologize for how slap-and-dash this has all come out but my mind is racing about a mile a minute! and regardless of what i think, CC is turning out to be the prettiest series i own

All those little moments between Gwyn and Azriel during training, or even the fact that the two of them have private training sessions, assume a total new meaning the moment you realize Gwyn is not in Azriel’s group, she’s in Cassian’s.
That means that when Azriel turns around because she hears Gwyn squealing, smile at her when he first join them, or when he drifts closer to her when she explains the ribbon and then keep paying attention even as he turns back around, is because he’s purposely paying attention to her. It’s not his task to do so, because that one would be focusing on his trainees, and Gwyn is not one of them.
Gwyn asking Azriel to go dagger handling together and alone has much more importance when you realize she could have easily asked Nesta and Cassian to teach her, who’s yk, the one whose actual task is to teach her. But she chose Azriel.

Elucien Theory: Hercules Retold
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I have a theory and it was inspired by a user here on Tumblr—I am so sorry I did not get their user but if you know them please send me their @ because it's all because of them that I was able to come up with this theory! And if anyone else has thoughts about this then please share your thoughts in the comments—and no hate please this is just me speculating and looking to the future!
Anyways, continuing on…
A few days ago, I came across this Elucien post on Tumblr and it was small, simple. It was just saying that the song, “I won’t say I’m in love”, sang by Meg in the Disney adaptation of Hercules, is like Elain’s song when she’s falling in love with Lucien but she won’t let herself admit it.
Now, this small post sparked an interesting theory for me. Almost everyone of my Elucien mutuals have speculated that Elain’s story is highly reminiscent of Rapunzel—and before I couldn’t really see it. To be honest, I myself am not a huge Elucien shipper—but whatever makes Lucien happy makes me happy (I just want his story to conclude on a good note).
Moving on, SJM has already told the story of Rapunzel but she didn’t do it ACOTAR she did it in TOG with Elide. This made me have my doubts about Elain and Lucien being endgame because why would SJM recycle a story she’s already told? Of course, as an author she’s entitled to do whatever she wants but I, myself, highly doubted that she would recycle stories.
Tumblr media
Because of this, I was strongly convinced that Elain was going to go evil (due to some questionable wording around Elain’s actions in ACOSF), and that Lucien was going to find a happy ending with just rediscovering his family (I.E. discovering who his real father is).
Tumblr media
However, after stumbling across the post, I am a firm believer that if Elucien were to become endgame than their story wouldn’t be reminiscent of Rapunzel, but instead it would be a retelling of Hercules.
Now, if you grew up with the classical late 90’s-to early 2000’s Disney animation then chances are you’ve watched Hercules—but if you’re like me you’ve watch Hercules about a couple dozen times. And so you know the story inside and out—the Disney version NOT the actual Greek myth. We don’t want the actual Greek myth because that would entail that Elain dies a horrible death and we all know SJM likes her happy endings.
But anyways (getting side tracked), there are so many theories that can plug into this one. It can connect the evil Elain theories, Koschei theories, and maybe even some Lucien theories.
Let’s start first with the big theory.
Elain.
Now if I’m being honest I don’t like Elain. I really don’t. I don’t connect with her. Don’t understand her. And really that’s probably because I haven’t had the chance to read from her point of view. But after ACOSF her likeness has just decreased exponentially. Though because of this theory I have found some new found hope in her character.
In ACOSF I felt like it was heavily hinted at that Elain was working behind the scenes. She was doing things that Cassian thought questionable, she was roaming around, acting sort of out sorts, and honestly she wasn’t the Elain we had grown accustomed to in the books prior to ACOSF.
“Elain has already departed with Feyre, claiming she had to be up with the dawn to tend to an elderly faerie’s garden. Cassian didn’t exactly know why he suspected this wasn’t trie. There had been some tightness in ELain’s face as she’d said it.”
Not to mention it felt like she was trying hard to insert herself in situations where we, as readers, weren’t sure if she was fully capable of because a) she hadn’t had the proper training, and b) she never ought to put herself in situations that were dangerous or were outside of her own comfort zone (like you can go looking for dead troves but you can’t go out hunting to feed your family with Feyre (sorry—again she’s just not my favorite character)).
So all of this led me to believe that she was working behind the scenes—like Meg did in Hercules.
As the story goes, the animated one at least, Meg sold her soul to Hades and in exchange he resurrected her lover who—soon after, left her for another leaving Meg to forever be the puppet of Hades and pawn in his plan. I feel a similar situation is going to go down with Elain and Koschei.
What I theorize is that Elain, after the events of ACOFAS and before the events of ACOSF, somehow communicated with Koschei (because remember, love makes people desperate) and in exchange for making her human or finding a way to make her human, she would act as his eyes and ears. And remember, this isn’t so far-fetched. Koschei can literally whisper on wind and control people despite being bound to the lake.
So like Meg, Elain made a deal with the devil in the name of love.
Now, let’s move onto Koschei.
Koschei, in this case, would be Hades. He makes deals, bargains, yadada and if I’m right he is using Elain as a pawn to get an inside scoop on the Inner Circle and possibly to get closer to Azriel?
For some reason Koschei has some interest in Azriel—and large part of that could be because the fourth dead trove is connected to Azriel and in order to get close to him Koschei is using Elain’s feminine wiles to seduce him and what not. Now—anyone can probably argue that that’s probably why this could very well be an E/riel theory—but it’s not. Because I firmly believe that Elain’s book isn’t next. I believe Azriel’s book is next and by the end of his book, Koschei’s interest in him will dwindle as he sets his eyes on Lucien.
Why Lucien? What could Lucien possibly have to do with Koschei?
Well who happens to be the one placing powerful wards on the dead troves?
Helion (and Rhys?).
And who could possibly rival him in such magic?
His son. Lucien.
We’ve seen the power that Lucien holds—we’ve seen that in moments of stress (such as Elain getting tossed into the cauldron) that Lucien is capable of replicating his father’s magic, unconsciously. So in order to get a hold of the dead troves Koschei could use Elain to get close to Lucien in hopes that he could—idk break through Helion’s wards?
But like the movie things don’t always go as plan…
I’m going to get back to Koschei but let’s move onto Lucien.
Now, in the story Hercules had his trusty companions and so does Lucien. Lucien has the exiles and something tell me that his main focus is going to be freeing Vassa from her curse with the “help” of Elain (who is undercover for Koschei).
I think that Koschei has a few tricks up his sleeves, a big one that he literally lives on an Island of monsters that do his bidding. So like the lion, the hydra—they could be possible obstacles in Lucien’s path shun him away to finding a way in breaking Vassa’s curse.
But like the Disney adaptation, Elain, like Meg, starts to fall in love with Lucien because he’s not guy she thought he was and he’s so much more than a guy with a fire dick. But she has to keep on spying for Koschei because he doesn’t want Lucien and the exiles to break Vassa’s curse.
But when Elain says no more, I’m done, Koschei reveals her as a spy and uses their bargain to try to harm Lucien which might lead to Elain being selfless and shattering the bond to free Lucien from being bound to her, or Lucien shattering the bond because he felt betrayed because the woman he loves had been deceiving him all along.
And then what happens next…well I don’t really know what happens next. I mean, Elain could always die and be resurrected like Meg was but honestly I really have no idea??? Like it would be cute that if Elain was resurrected she was resurrected as human and then Lucien decides to bound his life to her like Lorcan did with Elide or something—but again, recycling plot lines. But from there it could literally go anywhere.
What I do think might happen is that Elain and Lucien will probably travel the world together? Lest not forget that despite being coddled most of her life, Elain also wanted to travel to the continent with her father during his business dealings but never had the chance. So safe to say that (fingers crossed) Helion won’t be dead and Lucien can finally catch a break!
Tell me your thoughts in the comments!

Lucien and Vassa
The Band of Exiles
From the creators of The Inner Circle and the Valkyries here it comes another unbreakable trio. Really mixed if I dare say. We have a tortured human, a firebird and a Fae male.
How did this uneven group of deserters even became friends?
First we have Lucien our beloved foxboy:
Lucien is a self-exiled Fae male of the Autumn Court who works for the Spring Court and the Night Court (which are basically enemies) and also is ambassador for the weak humans. The guy has 3 jobs, dresses immaculately, everyone likes him and somehow he doesn’t belong anywhere.
Then we have Princess Fiona Vassa:
A queen by night, and firebird by day, sold by her fellow human queens to a sorcerer-lord who had enchanted her into transforming each dawn into a bird of fire and ash.
She seems to really enjoy being around Lucien which makes me like her already.
Last but not least we have Jurian:
A resurrected man who was formely an eye and had to see everything Amarantha did... *sorry Feyre*
This guy was a general who tricked Amarantha's sister into falling in love with him and then tortured her. I cannot understand how this man became friend with Lucien and Vassa being so evil.
Anyway, it seems the guy has good humor and no one wants him for what he did so. He fits in the group.
Definitively, an odd friendship, don't you love those? Now going to the interesting stuff...
Lucien really cares about Vassa. He is seen enjoying her company:
Vassa still remained inside, chatting with Lucien animatedly. I supposed that if she only had until dawn before turning back into that firebird, she wanted to make every minute count. Lucien, surprisingly, was chuckling, his shoulders loose and his head angled while he listened.
And wanting to help her with her curse trying to find "a loophole":
It didn’t get any better as Vassa said, “Can you break the curse on me, Feyre Archeron?” “Is that why you agreed to come so quickly?” A half smile. “Partly. Lucien suggested you had gifts. And other High Lords do as well.” Like his father—his true one. Helion.
If someone can find a loophole or even break the curse on Vassa, it is Helion Spell Cleaver... or maybe his son. I think in the next book Lucien will discover his powers as he tries to help Vassa. I think he is already doing so:
“Easy,” Lucien repeated, and flame sizzled in his russet eye.
The flame, the surprising dominance within it, hit Cassian like a stone to the head, knocking him from his need to kill and kill and kill whatever might threaten—
We had never seen this dominance in Lucien before. There were many times he could have showed it, specially when he was ordered to get Feyre back to the Sping Court. But he didn't. Maybe he didn't even know he had that amount of power and it is only discovering it now, with his friends.
Mor nodded gravely. “Lucien might mean well, but any reports would be skewed—even if he isn’t aware of it—in their favor.
Mor already suspects he is not reporting everything that's going on in that house they share... things are about to get interesting to our little Lucien and I can't wait to see it

Lucien and Elain
The Mating Bond
The reasons why this couple doesn't work are clearly stated.
They don't know each other and aren't interested in doing so, at least Elain isn’t.
So instead of focusing on why they wouldn't work let's try to see why they were mated in the first place.
What makes them so similar?
The mating bond snapped in place when the Cauldron turned Elain into a Fae. This was at the same time it gave her the abilities to be a seer.
The definition of seer says that:
A seer is a perceiver of hidden truth.
Isn't this exactly what Lucien's eye does? He can see through the spells and see the hidden truth behind them.
Elain can't shine in the Night Court. It has been implied in Cassian's thoughts:
He’d never once in the two years he’d known her found Elain to be plain, but wearing black, no matter how much she claimed to be part of this court … It sucked the life from her.
Lucien, to his credit, is always dresses immaculately and has 3 works. Does that make him belong to any of those? No.
The band of exiles was formed specifically because they don't belong anywhere.
Both Elain and Lucien would have a place in the Night Court but having a place doesn't mean that being there makes you any good.
I know I have said this a million times but elain is a flower who needs daylight to grow, in darkness it is only a matter of time until she dies.
Lucien, being associated with Helion could bring her that light.
Can you think in other reasons why they were mated?

Elriel vs Gwynriel. The end
After explaining the reasons why both ships would work, it is time to end this battle with votes.
Just say the name of the ship you think would work better. Just the name. If you want to explain go to the previous posts.
I will count the votes and tell you who is the chosen one!

Gwyn and Mor
After the fight with Cassian, Mor winnowns Nesta to Emerie's shop.
Later that day, it appears she did the same with Gwyn.
But how could she possibly have winnowed Gwyn out of the House if it is warded against winnowing?
There was a third person who helped Gwyn get out of the house before Mor winnowed her.
The next day, Cassian was surprised (and proud) that Gwyn had gone out to help Nesta. Which means he wasn't the one who helped her.
It seems someone must have flied Gwyn out of the house... maybe someone who lives there?

Elriel vs Gwynriel #3
Now that we have understood what Elain would represent to Azriel. Let's discuss what Gwyn can bring to Azriel.
This game only works if both sides participate, so I invite both Elriel and Gwynriel to say how helpful Gwyn could be to Azriel.
Do not compare. Leave Elain out of this.
I know we all have been speaking about personal journeys and how they should heal first before having a relationship. But Az is different.
He has 500 years and he still hasn't healed, which means he probably will need a little bit of help.
Cassian said that everyone's process was different and it make take a lot of years to fully fix. But we aren't going to get years, just a book.
So do I think a romantic relationship could heal him? No.
Do I think he needs help to heal? Yes.
So what do I mean?
He needs a friend. A friend in which he can trust to talk forever about everything and anything.
Friends to lover is a wonderful trope and I want a friendship first.
I don't want it to be forced, Azriel doesn't need a temporary satisfaction he needs someone to talk.
Cons:
There is literally no reason why Azriel would begin a romance with Gwyn.
Let's be clear, he wants another person.(Wants not loves)
He doesn't even consider Gwyn a friend.
Gwyn is joyful in the exterior, but truth is that she is really broken. She is healing and we don't know if she is ready for a romance yet.
Pros:
Azriel is not ready for a romance until he 100% closes things with Mor. Azriel won't be ready until he stops objetifying girls. He doesn't deserve anyone. They are not his to claim.
He needs to understand that, he needs to talk about it, he needs a friend to talk about it.
Which is one of the reasons why I think Gwynriel could work. Azriel doesn't consider Gwyn is his. He isn't seeing her like an object or like something he needs to get to be happy.
When he sees her, he sees a female strong enough to defend herself. He trusts her, you can't deny that.
They are going to see each other every day while they train. It has even been implied that Gwyn and Az train together afterwards. They will end being friends one way or another. The question is if that friendship is going to be romantic at some point.

Elriel vs Gwynriel #2
Now that we have understood what Azriel would represent to both girls. Let's discuss what Elain can bring to Azriel.
This game only works if both sides participate, so I invite both Elriel and Gwynriel to say how helpful Elain could be to Azriel.
Do not compare. Leave Gwyn out of this.
The way I see it:
Pros: Azriel needs peace, he is too tormented and he could achieve that peace with Elain at his side.
They look cute together, their tempers are similar, they have chemistry and most importantly they are attracted to each other.
Azriel needs to forget Mor and it seems Elain is helping with that. She could help him overcome that love and finally heal.
Cons: Lucien is Elain's mate. Rhysand, who commands Azriel, doesn't want that relationship to happen. He doesn't want to hurt Lucien so he forbid it.
Elain doesn't belong to the night court. It has been said many times. On the other side, Azriel belongs to the night court. His family is there, his job, all his life.
If he were to leave for Elain, where would they leave? No one would accept them knowing they could unleash a war between courts.
They are both broken. Can they heal together... or make it worse?

Elriel vs Gwynriel #1
Aren't you tired of "Gwyn should be with Azriel because she is a lightsinger and..."?
Aren't you tired of "Elain should be with Azriel because she likes him and..."?
Let's change the game
Why do they have to adapt to Azriel's needs?
You need two people to build a relationship
So tell me:
Why should Azriel be with any of them?
I read you.
