you know those childhood memories that you forgot all about until you smell something that feels right, and then suddenly you’re eight again and you’re smiling even though it’s february and the cold bites against your skin because you’re eating your favourite treat and yes, it’s in a parking lot nowhere in the world, but it’s you and your memory and that fond nostalgia that makes you chase the scent again and again-

sometimes self love is just wrapping yourself up in a big sweater and looking at pictures of cows while drinking tea, and that's okay.

every single moment of beauty i find, i find through struggle. i find it through voices that tell me to stop trying. i find it through exhaustion so deep it makes my bones ache. i find it through pain, and when i’m about to give up i have to remind myself that i still managed to find it, no matter what.
let me help you find some too, if you need.

does it make sense if i tell you your lips taste of honey-dew and rain, and your eyes are amber and bark? if your hair is soft as moss, and your hands as gentle as wind? does it make sense if i tell you that i’d lose myself in you like a forest, gladly and readily?

those days when you just feel right, like nothing could go wrong - even if it’s never about grand things, but merely a feeling you get in your bones. those days when your drink is just warm enough, when the blanket covers you perfectly, when the sun hits your window just right. when you find yourself smiling at strangers in the street, when the grass seems to be yelling in green and the sky echoing in blue- those are good days

have i been paying enough attention to the falling of leaves, to autumn giving way to winter? to the comfort of a warm cup in red, cold-bitten fingers? to the roughness of wool around my neck, and the sweet, honey-like taste of frost over grass in the morning?

it might take a while to fall back in love with the cold air and quick night and frantic rain. it might take a while to fall back in love with those things we believe to be sad, or ugly.
but maybe there’s some beauty in wind so sharp it takes your breath away, or dark that falls fast enough for the sunset to explode in a matter of minutes, or thunder so loud it sends shivers down your spine.

tag yourself: old house edition
copper pot: warming your hands by the fireplace, the breeze tousling your hair, hushed whispers late at night, linen shirts and stained aprons, family recipes passed down through generations, old movies playing in the background. warm colours around the house, moon shining through the curtains, saffron-tinged mornings and pearly white clouds.
rusty keys: path lighted by lanterns, combing the woods for tiny rocks and bones, scarves and fabrics hung on the wall, knowing smiles and secret handshakes. dried flowers with their saccharine scent, warm woollen jumpers and pristine white handkerchiefs pleasantly cluttered rooms, watching a spider weaving its web and singing a bird's melodies back.
hidden door: the taste of adventure on your lips, walking with a bundle over your shoulder, homemade pies and strong strawberry wine, the sharp wind reddening your cheeks, collecting abandoned nests and stray feathers. tin watering cans left to rust in a messy shed, ripped overalls and colourful patches, leaves casting shadows on the wall and mugs with paint water left on the windowsill.
creaky stairs: woods at night with a bright full moon, stars singing songs of sorrow, familiar steps behind the door, morning dew on every plant, its little drops decorating petals with pearls and gems. rays of sunshine cutting through the mist, lead-grey clothing and flower crowns, mismatched teacups in every shape and colour, staying up all night and searching for fairy rings at dawn.

i would love you endlessly, desperately, vividly. i would not die for you, but live for you. i would gift you my youth, my old age, an entire life spent on your lips-
if it came to it, i'd have you die first. i'd give you a hand to hold onto, a smile to gaze upon. if i were allowed, i'd give you the sound of sunrise, the smell of blue skies, the taste of fresh rain. if i were allowed i'd place the world in your hands - no piece for my own, your awed eyes enough to sate my need for beauty.
i would love you wholly, intensely, carefully. i would paint the sky with new stars, if i could, for us to look at, your head on my chest.

there is a single breath of wind tickling your cheek. sky's painted in peach and soft yellows, a steadfast star holding its ground against the oncoming day. you mindlessly caress the grass and flowers under your hand, rejoicing in the sounds of waking birds.
an early bug flies by, and you don't swat it away with your hand - much too soon for such behaviour. far off in the distance, you can see a bright spot on the horizon, growing warmer and more intense. sun isn't up yet, but it's stretching its hands, yawning loudly for the world to get ready.
it's a nameless day in summer, and there's nothing but calm and beauty.

i love the sweet lemon smell of fresh laundry, the way the sheets sway gently with the wind. i love how every now and then, if i'm especially quiet, a graceful butterfly will come to rest on the clothesline to catch its breath before fluttering away.
i love how my hands will soften under the water, how i will keep bringing them to my face to take in the scent. how i will stare at the wrinkles and creases on my fingers, watching as they disappear.
i love how romantic the most ordinary actions can be, and how easy it is to lose myself in their poetry.

birds chirping after sunset, the dark settling in and covering everything in a starry blanket. the air grows colder, and goosebumps erupt on bare arms. the wind blows softly, tired from the long day. a couple of early crickets start their singing, echoing the rise of the moon.
it's simple, nothing out of the ordinary. it's what happens every night. it's merely nature doing its job. it's absolutely magical.

it's easy to miss the way night smells, somehow wet and earthy and yet so graceful. it's easy to miss the pale light of the moon, white and feeble and elegant as it sweeps through the streets. it's easy to miss the sound of stars, low and distant and familiar like a much awaited embrace.
it's easy to forget night's beauty, but if you strain your ear just so, or manage to squint your eyes enough, or simply allow yourself to find the differences in the air after the sun has set, that beauty will be yours to cherish and behold.
don't forget to look for joy in this world.

it's loving u hour the anon inspired me to tell u how i feel about your writing and i cannot stress enough how much i needed someone like u on my dash like. everytime i log in i made sure i saw ur posts cause they're so wholesome and make me feel alive and falling in love with the world a little bit more each day. If I had to describe you... you'd be a sunflower field. they turn toward the sun to live but if they can't find it they turn to each other instead, and really that's how lovely u are
i think this is the most beautiful simile i have ever heard in my life, i-
i really find myself at a loss for words, but for what it's worth, i almost cried 💛
i love being able to bring you even the tiniest amount of happiness or peace and knowing i managed to do so truly inspires me. i hope we can all be a sunflower field, giving each other joy and love. thank you, from the bottom of my heart ✨
