having ideas for Nihilus again as an almost priest in gabriel's world, but the quaint priesthood wasn't meant for him, so the faith offers him a position as a "priest" who investigates other priests for "unholy" behaviors
just the idea of gabriel, deep into secretly worshipping the rogue and preaching to his flock, only to have Nihilus at the doorstep of his rectory one day seeking to "have a chat :)"
nihilus lounging in one of gabriel's chairs "do ya mind if i smoke in here"
"i do-"
nihilus is already lighting a cigarette up, ignoring gabriel's words.
they have a discussion, nihilus hinting subtly that he Knows. Gabriel is uneasy.
Nihilus leaves after their intense discussion.
Rogue pops in like "We have to kill him."
Gabriel like "We can't. kill him."

I think gabriels world has technology btw. I've been kinda ?? About this in the beginning but I think they're technologically advanced like our world is, maybe just more religiously conservative? I think not as progressive obviously. Technology is used to the advantage of the Theocracy, and the council that governs. Easily controlled and taken away when seen fit.

What's that one fucking post. The. Fucking. Paradox of using a lot of common sayings bc they originate from Christianity in fantasy worlds where Christianity doesn't exist?
That's like that- for Gabriel's name. His world does not have Christianity, nor does it have a concept of angels, so the name Gabriel is out of place here.
Well. The ORIGINAL gabriel originated from something that Christianity existed in.
Let's just say the name can happen in this world as well

gabriel is the rogue's prophet and in being the rogue's prophet, rogue tends to keep an eye on him at all times. the eye on Gabriel's stole is not just there for decoration, it is also one of the ways rogue watches from Gabriel. Sometimes being near Gabriel, one can watch the eye on it go from stationary- to looking around the room :)

"I brought you something to eat, I thought you may appreciate it after leading the evening mass. I made a point to tidy the rectory after I finished cooking--why not, after all?" --Sanguis <3
Gabriel is touched by the kind gesture, smiling to himself and at his beloved. He was rather peckish after the long sermon he did, and was more than happy to be presented with the food made by Sanguis.
"Oh- my- thank you so much, darling. I do very much appreciate this.. And cleaned the rectory? Goodness, you did not have to do so! I could have managed it... Bah- no point in dwelling on that- thank you again. I love you, is there anything I could do for you in return?"

THE MEETING.
The old wooden floorboards creak with each step. World weary eyes take in the dark chapel, every inch memorized like the back of his hand.
How many years has Gabriel known this place. Too many, some would say. Perhaps even Gabriel would say so.
He leaned against a pew for support, stopping to rest and take in some breaths. He was old. His body was failing. Even the short distance from his rectory to his chapel was enough to wind him. And yet he did not fear his impending death. Each moment brought him closer to it, he knew, he had been ready for it since the day he dawned his collar. If it came tonight, he wouldn't mind. He hoped The Creator and Mother would take mercy on him.
Gabriel began slowly walking up toward his altar, but stopped in his tracks again. A brisk wind picked up, despite it just being dead still seconds ago. A breeze blew past him, lighting the candles that rested atop the altar, flicking in the breeze.
A sign?
"HAVE YOU COME TO PRAY?"
The voice was everywhere and nowhere, in front, behind, in his head and out loud. Masculine. Feminine. High pitched, low. Echoey. Hard to place.
From the shadows, eyes appeared, looking everywhere before focusing on Gabriel.
Gasping, Gabriel stepped back, as the figure fully materialized, a vaguely humanoid looking thing, blacker than the darkest night sky, dotted with eyes. Teeth were visible, shaped into a wide smile.
It looked at him. It looked into him. It saw him for what he was.
"I KNOW YOU, GABRIEL. I'VE BEEN WATCHING YOU."
Shaking, Gabriel muttered, "W-what do you mean?"
"YOU DON'T TRULY WANT TO DIE, CHILD. YOU FEAR IT. YOU CAN LIE TO YOURSELF ALL YOU WANT BUT WE BOTH KNOW." It seemingly glided over to him, towering over the elderly priest. Gabriel stared at it, fear coursing through his veins as it continued: "BUT I CAN GIVE YOU STRENGTH AGAIN. I CAN RELIGHT YOUR FLAME."
"R-relight my f-flame? You mean-"
"I CAN PUT OFF YOUR DEATH. FOR AS LONG AS I WISH." It giggles, tilting its head and leaning in awfully too close for comfort.
Frozen in place, unable to move away from the being, Gabriel asks, "What's the catch?"
"SIMPLE TERMS, CHILD." It moves away, circling behind Gabriel, placing a cold hand on the priest's shoulder and whisks him up to behind the altar, making it so Gabriel could look out on the empty church. "I WILL PROLONG YOUR LIFE," It leaned over his shoulder, grinning still, finding amusement in whatever ultimatum it decided. "IF YOU SHRUG OFF YOUR WORSHIP OF MY SIBLINGS. AND WORSHIP ONLY ME."
It clicked in his brain immediately after, who this being was. The Rogue God. The God Gabriel was taught of ever since he was a young boy, not to trust, not to even think about. And here it was. After decades of being good, what did Gabriel deserve to be suddenly met face to face with it?
"I HAVE SEEN YOUR WORK, GABRIEL. YOU ARE A VERY CAPABLE PRIEST. YOUR FLOCK IS LOYAL. TRUSTWORTHY. YOU ARE A GOOD MAN. THEY WILL FOLLOW YOU."
"Why? Why choose me?"
The Rogue God giggled again, "I HAVE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS MOMENT. FOR YOU. FOR A PRIEST WITH THE FORTITUDE AND STRENGTH YOU HAVE."
"Strength? I have no strength," Gabriel interrupted it, surprised it could even use those words to describe himself.
"YOU DO NOT SEE IT YET. BUT I WILL SHOW YOU JUST HOW STRONG YOU CAN BE. THE POWER YOU HAVE IN THIS SOCIETY IS IMMENSE. YOU WILL LEAD HUMANITY INTO A NEW ERA. ONE NOT SHACKLED BY THE OPPRESSIVE REGIME THAT YOU DESPISE."
The words weighed heavily in Gabriel's mind, what it said was true. Gabriel hated the theocracy that controlled his country's every aspect. He has seen too many innocents killed or imprisoned just for loving who they loved. Being who they truly were. He already welcomed so many "undesirables" into his church. He had protected so many-
"AND YOU CAN PROTECT THEM MORE." The God finished his thought, turning Gabriel once more so he could face it. "I SEEK TO CHANGE THIS WORLD. MY SIBLINGS HAVE BLINDED THEMSELVES TO THIS WORLD'S SUFFERING. BUT I AM SICKENED BY IT. WE CAN CHANGE IT."
"But I am just one man!" Gabriel exclaimed, "I cannot change the minds of hundreds of people- I cannot lead them-"
"I WILL BE WITH YOU." The Rogue took Gabriel's hands in its own and placed them against his chest, Gabriel feeling a warmth unlike anything he's ever known fill his chest, spreading to the rest of his body. The weakness he had felt earlier was gone, an unknown strength taking over. "WE WILL RESCUE THIS WORLD. TOGETHER."
"Yes. We will." Gabriel replied, with that Rogue laughed triumphantly and faded into the shadows once more.
"YOU WILL BE MY PROPHET, GABRIEL. YOU WILL SPREAD MY WORD."

"The Rogue God is not evil. In fact it could be said that it is the only God still worried about humanity, willing to answer our prayers directly and come aid us in time of need. Truly, if the Other Five cared, they would put down struggles and hardship Themselves, but they are seemingly silent. The Five do not care. But the Rogue still listens."
- Words of the Great Heretic Gabriel.

"It is important to note that Father Gabriel, despite announcing his heresy to the Faith, remained in his seat as the head of his church. He was a quiet man who did little in the way of politics and movements. He devoted his time leading prayer and teaching of the benevolent side of the Rogue God, which was most frowned upon by those above him, but his few actions and how truly beloved he was by the Council, spared him his head, however his followers who were seen boasting of the Rogue God in other churches and in the streets were judged sinful, and thrown in the black cells of the dungeons beneath the Faith Militant to await their trials and eventual executions. Gabriel wasn't just an exception. He was the exception."
- Words of Father Nihlus

ROGUE GOD LORE
Unlike its siblings, the Rogue interacts still with humanity out of anger that its siblings could abandon their creation with little care, leaving them to their own devices. The Rogue wants humanity to know the Gods do exist and commonly listen, the other 5 are just apathetic, and the Rogue is the only one that cares.

Gabriel had a rough childhood growing up. Abandoned at a church at a young age, he was grown up in the Religion of Five, a multi-theistic religion that taught him the wonders of the world, but also silence, fear, and servitude. He spent his younger years in training to become a priest.
When receiving priesthood, he set out on creating his own church built on the love and wonders of the religion, refusing to shun away those who seeked help or refuge. He quickly became a beloved public figure, and easily the most popular priest, to the dismay of many others.
However, in his old age. Issues began. The Five excludes the 6th god of the fold, the Rogue God, and one night while Gabriel was praying, the Rogue God came to Gabriel, promising a change. A change Gabriel wished to see in the world. Becoming the Rogue God's prophet was no easy task. Gabriel faced excommunication. Even death for it.
But Gabriel accepted the offer, agreeing to preach the Rogue God's words, partially shunning the other Five. Despite the theocracy disliking and even hating this change, Gabriel was allowed to live, as he was such a beloved figure that riots were sure to happen if Gabriel was killed or imprisoned.
But Gabriel was shunned and barred from entering other churches, affiliating with others, even threatened to have his priesthood removed, but Gabriel stood strong, even through all of it.
Gabriel is destined to lead humanity through the end of days.

THE 6 GODS OF THE WORLD
Entropy - The ancient primordial being, chaos itself, split itself into 6 equal parts to create the Universe. All things eventually rejoin Entropy upon death. While not worshipped as a God, it is the basis of the Creation Myth
The Creator - the one who tasked Themself with creating the cosmos upon splitting from Entropy, Created the stars and the planets, weaving together gas and dust to light up the once empty and black nothingness. Represents the sun, the moon, stars, all celestial objects. Often depicted as agender, skin reflecting the night sky, galaxies swirling upon Their skin, blues and purples, brilliant colors and stars all dancing upon Their skin.
The Mother Above - While the Creator set about creating celestial objects, The Mother Above set about creating life, seeding the cosmos with life, big and small, dotted across worlds, The Mother taking express pleasure in designing and shaping humanity, creating them in Her form. Represents motherhood, life, fertility, humanity. Depicted as a thick set motherly woman, common as not depicted pregnant, with long wavy hair.
The Father Above, the Judge - Having little to no involvement with humanity's creations, all true families have a father, representing just that, fatherhood. Another name for the Father, is the Judge, bringing down divine righteous judgment, the weigher of souls, the one who decides whether or not a soul is worthy to enter the Domain of Gods, or set to be forgotten and rejoin Entropy. Represented by a blindfolded man, holding scales in one form, and then a heavier middle aged man.
The Warrior - true to His name, the Warrior represents the righteous warrior, the battlefield, called upon during times of battle to lend His strength to those with the righteous and just cause. Also the patron of childhood and protector of the weak. Negative attributes, as war is negative, include bloodshed, and common atrocities committed by all warriors. Always depicted as a sculpted man hidden behind golden armor, wielding a spear (or a sword) and a shield.
The Lover - The Lover represents non-familial love, (which is under the jurisdiction of the Mother Above) poetry, the arts, music, beauty, and romance. Those who wish for a fruitful marriage seek after the guidance and blessings of the Lover. However, the Lover does have a flipside, easily breaking apart and scorning lovers. Depicted as either a beautiful man or woman, typically naked or in loose flowing dress.
The Rogue God - Typically taught in churches as the Fallen One, the Evil One, The Turncloak, this God encompasses all that is evil and wrong in this world, shadows, turning its back from its Godly siblings in order to wreck havoc upon life and the universe. Heretics, or simply what the Faith calls those who paint the Rogue God in a more gentle light, call it The Breaker of the Chains that Bind You, representing rebellion against tyranny and authority. Belief in the former definition of the Rogue God is typically used to subjugate and control the masses, the latter belief being shunned, for fear of the people rallying behind the Rogue God and rebelling against the iron grip theocracy in place. Accepted in both circles is that of the Rogue God's appearance as a gigantic jet black shadow being, dotted with eyes that see all and teeth always in a wide smile.
