I do think a larger portion of Hotch and Haley's divorce than we talk about had to do with her being afraid of having to raise Jack alone. Of being a thirty-year-old widow. Of raising a son with no father. The job was already taking Hotch away from her and that she had reckoned with but suddenly there's this little boy and one too many doctors appointments alone makes her realize that every time Hotch walks out that door he might not come back. That being alone might not be just the coincidence of a case taking him out of town but her future, completely absent of him.

And that's why all this anger just boils up out of nowhere. She's afraid of losing him so she makes him choose, this now or never situation where he can't choose her. How could he? He's a leader, the only thing keeping the team together. She couldn't have asked this of him at a worse time.

She's angry he didn't choose her and yet probably relieved because they wouldn't have been happy.

She regains control, which is what the point was. Now she leaves him but it's not that simple. What about their divorce is so cut and dry? Jessica says Haley still cared about him, still loved him. For fuck sake, Haley dies because she can't think straight through the grief she has over thinking Hotch is dead. The relief in her voice when she hears him over the phone?

Haley and Hotch weren't simple.

Hotch fucked up not choosing Haley but she could live on without him and the team without him was falling apart, it wasn't working. Haley made him make a decision she probably already knew the answer to.

AND I also think that Hotch would have been perfectly fine in another relationship/marriage after Haley. The general consensus is that he'd fuck it up or be an awful partner but Haley didn't stick by that man for so long and then continue to love him if he was dick, okay? He would be a fantastic partner to someone with a similar schedule or who could be more understanding to the demand of his job
