So... I'm Heading Out...

Not leaving Tumblr altogether 'cause this site's got me in one hell of a death grip, but I am leaving this blog (and related side-blogs) behind.

Feels like I need a fresh start, but I'm not just gonna wipe the slate clean. I'll leave the blogs up as a reminder, both for everyone else and myself. There are some things I wanna remember... and some I'd like to remember to avoid in the future.

The journey's not over yet. Just this part of it. Thanks for the fun.

How My Art Style Evolved

Early on when I started doing pixel art, my art style was even more basic, I wanted to improve it, so I decided to brainstorm different styles. Observe:

"Standard" was my initial art style, and all of my brainstorming attempts followed the proportional rules of the "Standard" style.

I never really went anywhere with the "Kirby" and "Rectangle" styles.

I ended up doing the "Pixanime" style, but something about it felt off. After coming up with the other styles, I eventually drew the "Wide-Eye" style before it clicked. I combined this new style with the "Pixanime" style, creating what I dubbed the "New Favorite" style.

However, I wasn't done. I felt another change was in order, so I decided to rework the proportions of my style, and I practiced it for good measure.

This is the result. You all should know the rest.

Bonus:

I had these OCs called the Phases. Don't know if I'll ever go back to them, but I did try to rework their designs in my new style.

From left to right, here's Phase 0, Phase 1, and Phase 2, with old designs at the top and the new designs at the bottom.

And here's Phase 3, Phase 4, and Phase X, same rules apply.

I think I did pretty good on them.

Bonus II:

There was a time when I tried entering an SMG4 collab (it was the 3M Subscribers one). I drew some character designs for some of the characters, including my own before and after character comparison. I also did an additional slide when I was trying to figure out how to do the mustache and the hat for Mario and SMG4. Have a look:
