D&D 50th Anniversary - Ask a DM!
Tumblr media
Hey there friends! If you didn't know, Dungeons & Dragons came out in 1974, exactly 50 years ago this year! I for one am excited to make this a year celebrating my love of D&D and other tabletop roleplaying games!
(despite what stunts certain companies try to pull)
SO! To celebrate I (Aboleth Eye) wanted to hear from you wonderful ttrpg enthusiasts! I've been regularly playing and hosting Dungeons & Dragons since 2012 (starting and sticking with 3.5 edition), as well as a bevvy of other tabletop roleplaying games! Anything you've always wanted to know about running or playing Dungeons & Dragons? Got a story you wanna share from your own tables? How about sharing how you yourself got into the hobby (e.g. Critical Role, Stranger Things, Dimension Twenty, etc)?
Ask or Share Anything you like! DM me here at @aboleth-eye , @aboleth-workshop or tag me on Twitter!
I eagerly want to share experiences, lessons learned and recommendations with those of you who are amazing fans of ttrpgs! And while drama in the ttrpg community often brings us down, I know we're all going to be playing D&D and other games for ANOTHER 50 YEARS!
See y'all at the 100th Anniversary in 2084!
(I'm gonna be eighty and still hosting should my brain not be mush haha).
With love, Aboleth Eye

D&D Homebrew Class: the Valiant
Tumblr media
In your own D&D 3e/3.5 campaigns, have you always wanted to fight with the powers of light and big elemental explosions? A pretty protector leaping over enemies to rescue your friends from the forces darkness? Channel the powers of goodness through awesome kickboxing and unique bursts of fire, water, earth and/or air?
Then check out the Valiant! A homebrew monk/battle dancer-based class inspired by the classic anime/tv genres of Mahou Shoujo (Sailor Moon/Pretty Cure/Cardcaptor Sakura/etc) and Sentai Tokusatsu (Power Rangers/Super Sentai/etc)!
Just did a major overhaul and expansion to the Valiant class recently! Added in tons of new options such as the Wildheart, Lostheart and Planar Valiant!
All homebrew is free to use and play in your own games! (Though a shoutout would be nice lol) -- Love, @aboleth-eye

D&D 3e/3.5 Homebrew Requests!
Hi there friends! Do you like Dungeons & Dragons (specifically 3e/3.5 edition)? Do you like to read or use homebrew in your own campaigns?
Well, Aboleth Eye is happily taking requests for new homebrew ideas! They already have such a huge amount of ideas ready and free to be used! Check them out here!
Have a character option in mind you'd love to see written out with lore and abilities? A fantasy race and culture of lore? A unique class option for your players?
What about a magic item you'd love to integrate into your own campaigns?
Or, perhaps you'd love to see something fresh in the Aboleth Eye Bestiary? From behemoths to tiny little friends, all ideas welcome!
Maybe you are a Dungeon Master that wants a hook or seed for your own campaign? Something to bridge together two great ideas you already have, or a plot to introduce something new for your players?
Ideas are all welcome (within reason)! Send your requests to either @aboleth-workshop or @aboleth-eye! And let's get November rolling with new ttrpg stories!
And feel free to read all about the wondrous creatures, classes and races we've done already!
Thanks,
Aboleth Eye

Bottled Message Wizard
His common ability is to send messages across different realms and reality using bottles.
His ultimate is a reality bending skill of Written-Recipe-to-reality is limited to once per 3 days and to liquids. Simply put a written recipe of a concoction into a bottle and it simply manifests. Very useful when testing theoretical mixtures.
Tryna be subtle with this, I wanna avoid relying on my texture brushes too much. The color scheme resemblance to a popular Jrpg mascot is pure coincidence

No one asked for this one, but…
If you made lore for a character you’ve had since you were 16, and you’re in your 20s now and have a better grasp of narrative structure and power creep, you can just retcon the dumb stuff. Like you can do that for free. You’re not beholden to the junk you wrote 5 years ago, and you don’t need to justify removing it if it sucks.

Aboleth-Eye Hosts: Ravenloft Facades!
A D&D 3.5 Short Campaign, Coming in January!
Hi everyone!  I’m opening up my schedule in mid-January to host a D&D 3.5 Ravenloft mini campaign over discord and roll20!   At least 2 to 3 sessions of good fantasy horror fun!  If you’re interested, please reach out by joining our discord or DM me here on Tumblr or Twitter!
Classic Sword & Sorcery Ravenloft is my all-time favorite setting ever, and I have been super interested to host something for a long time.  If you are interested look below for all the basic details:
System: Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition.  (If you are familiar with Pathfinder 1st edition this is the system it’s based on.)
I will be implementing the setting’s unique mechanics, such as Fear, Horror and Madness; as well as Outsider Ratings and Dark Powers checks!  Character deaths may be a thing that happens, just fyi!
Character Level: ECL 6
Will host a character creation session as well, which could include a Tarokka backstory generation!
Setting: the Demiplane of Dread, Ravenloft!  Specifically, this campaign will take place in the dread domain of Dementlieu, in the metropolis of Port-a-Lucine!
Dementlieu is beautiful and serene domain of rolling hills and fertile vineyards, coastal hamlets and great cities of fashion, the arts and culture.  It’s a very influential place within the Core of Ravenloft’s domains for its culture, very reminiscent of Renaissance-meets-pre-Revolutionary France.
Session Dates/Times:  Still figuring that out, but it’ll be based around California PST timezone.  In the meantime if you are interested please join the Aboleth-Eye Discord for updates!
If I hear back from a bunch of people, we’ll hammer out the details starting in January over discord!  Anyone is invited to join the discord anyway–we talk tabletop games, share memes and music, etc.  Very chill community, LGBTQIA+ friendly!
Come and play with us, new friends!  The Mists invite you to join this dark adventure!

Okay, so read this piece of shit’s garbage opinion piece if you can stomach it. His thesis is that GenCon ought to OFFICIALLY center and spotlight and celebrate Trumpy Fascists, because “gaymer” badges exist. Failing that, anything associated with politics or human rights should be eliminated from GenCon, to protect his feelings, so white supremacists and misogynists can feel comfortable and welcome at GenCon.
This asshole. Wow, this asshole and his “all lives matter” energy. What a fucking Quisling. He writes like one of those right wing cowards who can’t handle the social consequences of his ideology, so his solution to feeling uncomfortable is to either force GenCon to give him and people like him special attention, or force everyone attending to censor themselves. He wants to play his Bunny game with his kid and go home to Fox News. He doesn’t want to have to look at the 17 year-old girl across the table who is terrified that she missed her period, or the Black woman, the trans player in a tournament, or any of the people he wants to erase.
He actually argues that a business like GenCon (you know, a convention created by and run by outsiders who have always been shunned by people like this asshole) only take public stances that support equality and diversity as a means to serve their bottom line. This guy has no morals, so that makes sense to him. In this guy’s world, people and corporations don’t do the right thing because it’s right. This is only one of the times he tells on himself in this column.
This asshole actually wants to CELEBRATE fascists at GenCon, because his feelings got all hurt when he wanted to play a game, and someone had the NERVE to call for equal rights for women.
Oh no! Fragile, mediocre, white male Timothy William Waters can’t play his bunny game without having to confront how the selfishness, cruelty, and authoritarianism of right wing forced-birthers may affect people other than him.
I am an elder in the Gaming World. Just as this idiot outranks me in the Right Wing Law Professor community, I outrank him in the gaming community. As one of the leaders of the movement to expand gaming, bring more and more people into the hobby, and constantly encourage people to play more games, I want Timothy William Waters to hear me loud and clear: get fucked with your “all lives matter” shit. I’m glad you feel unwelcome in our spaces BECAUSE YOU AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE UNWELCOME. Gaming is a safe space. Fascists are not welcome. Bigots are not welcome. If seeing “gaymer” badges or women standing up for their human rights makes you feel so icky you have to leave GenCon, that’s cool with me. Get the fuck out and never come back. If you feel uncomfortable at GenCon because you can’t wear your MAGA hat or your Klan hood, well … good. That’s the idea. Die mad about it.
This asshole is so selfish and fragile and myopic, he apparently didn’t read or chose to ignore the GenCon Values page:
Inclusive community-building
“We consciously build welcoming, safer spaces to gather, forge friendships, explore shared passions, and discover new ones. We value active listening and working with our community to shape a Gen Con that is anti-discrimination, anti-racist and free of sexism, harassment, and hate.”
So just to be EXTRA clear, Professor Asshole, you and people like you are EXPLICITLY not welcome at GenCon, ever. They wrote it down so you could read it as many times as you need to, so you can understand. Go cry about it.

The Cindy Masterpost
I’ll edit and reblog this with updates as I post new bits of the Cinderella story I’m working on, but for now, here are all the current chapters out:
Part One (In Which Things Would Be Simpler If The Prince Was A Horny Piece of Shit)
Part Two (In Which No Rats Were Harmed In The Making Of These Horses)
Part Three (The OG post which technically is kind of told out of order because there’s a reblog and like, look, I could see this was becoming a thing, but I didn’t think it would be a thing-thing but now it’s a thing-thing and I have to deal with it. I mean I’m writing a masterpost for cryin’ out loud)
Part Four (In Which Cindy and the Fairy Godmother Run from the Cops)
Part Five (In Which The Prince Begins His Investigation While The Narrator yells About Foot Fetishes Because look I’m sick of that joke I’m SO FUCKING SICK of that joke it’s so fucking unoriginal.)
Part Six  (In which we meet The Queen because fuck you she was alive in the Rogers and Hammerstein version)
Part Seven (In which news of the slipper is spread throughout the kingdom and the narrator talks about this one time when they passed out at a Dickens fair and that’s totally definitely relevant.)
Part Eight (In Which the narrator wants to include more slapstick but is also wary about all the implications with regards to class differences and also the slipper is a non-euclidean object which defies all rules of mass and physics.)
Part Nine (In which Cindy is every drunk girl who has ever comforted you in a bar or club bathroom)
Part Ten (In which Cindy has no interest in being that wife chained up in the attic in Jane Eyre)
Part Eleven (In which tasty pies are consumed and also maybe the slipper fits someone or whatever)
Part Twelve (In which we meet the parents)
Part Thirteen (In which Cindy is going to be okay but also it’s not a fairy tale unless the ending has at least a little bit of threatening ambiguity towards the audience)
