I think we're starting to dilute the meaning of "terminally online". Like, no, it's not terminally online to have eccentric opinions about a popular TV show – people like that existed before "online" was a thing. Unless we're talking at least an "it's homophobic for gay furries to have rat fursonas because they're depicting gay people as vermin", the onlineness falls well short of terminal.

Sam and Max exist in a quantum superposition of cop and not-cop because it's textually unclear whether they're actual mercenary police officers or just private detectives with a weird gimmick, and it's never going to be decided one way or the other because the real answer to that question is "whichever is funniest in this particular scene".

They are, however, bastards 100% of the time, for reasons completely unrelated to whether or not they're cops.
