I do like fionna and cake so far. not like it's blowin my mind but I do think most ideas it's put out have been an interesting expansion of the adventure time universe. it's definitely not perfect; it's missing some of the original series' unique vibe but there's been nothing too objectionable

#I may have to kill whichever storyboarder keeps conspicuously fucking up body and face proportions though. nothing personal #grown-up finn's characterization while sad is still great writing #I do think there's moments that are idk. fanfictiony? which I don't love but overall it's fairly solid #fionna and cake #fionna and cake spoilers #I was originally highly averse to this series before I knew the synopsis so compared to my initial reaction this is a good turnout #it's really nice seeing the characters I grew up with. grown up. yknow #that's probably the point.

Farmworld (Dad) Finn

#dude smiles exactly once. #very interesting seeing finn as this type of character. though really it's just the natural progression of farmworld finn #5 gatdamn kids.....many hands make light work #(I can't talk. I have 4 siblings). I can see finn as the big-family type #love the whole country vibe. baseball-capped and y'all-spittin #my favorite dude as a sad single dad yeehaw #based on the looks of that one kid I'm assuming his wife was this world's version of hw #fionna and cake spoilers #fionna and cake #adventure time

Simon Petrikov the Episode... I know Simon's the star but I can't stop thinking about Finn.

Seeing firsthand just how badly his grief over Jake has messed him up. All of his progress in emotionally connecting with himself and with others essentially went down the drain. He can't process anything outside of the lens of epic questing. His idea to help Simon is to put the man in mortal danger for the purpose of rescuing him and never once considered that Simon could be seriously injured or killed, because of course Finn the Human is too strong! This is nothing to him, his job is to fight and protect. And when Simon does actually get hurt Finn shrugs it off. Ahh, that's just another battle wound, nothing fatal! It'll be a cool scar!

He is literally not coping but he thinks he's doing great. And it breaks my heart that it's all so... Martin-like of him. He cannot have back what he lost and he responds by bottling it and pushing through jovially as if unaffected, and in turn does not register anything as a true threat anymore because in his eyes nothing could be worse than what has already happened. He is all jokes and rowdy hubris and "Hey now, talkin' about sad stuff gets ya nowhere! Forget about it!"

Finn is just living thrill to thrill and clinging to distractions in between (and trying to find someone to fill the hole where Jake was- we saw him taking on Bronwyn as an adventure partner in Obsidian and now TV. but they don't stick. it's never going to be the same.) and we already know from Together Again that he will maintain this behavior until his last breath.

It's fantastic character writing but I am so distraught at the state of my boy.

of course simon is the real focus here, and it is incredibly tragic that he has essentially been dragged so far into the future there’s basically nothing left that even remotely resembles his old life--but I do have to bring up finn being so emotionally stunted, perhaps by jake’s death, that all progress he made throughout the original show run seems to have undone itself. he can’t think of any way to comfort simon except through avoidance and mindless positivity. he so clearly WANTS to help but can’t. and yeah after finn’s whole thing with his dad it is kinda heartbreaking that he’s so reminescent of martin here. finn dude you’re in danger of becoming your father and you don’t even know it bud
