Help us say no to a law making it illegal to film police brutality in France
I’m coming back with another petition, about my country this time. Recently there’s been a lot of civil unrest in France with the yellow vests and transportation strikes. The police has been extremely violent during these protests, with more than a thousand protesters hurt and 6 dead (the French police doesn’t even have guns).
A bit more than a month ago, cops were filmed in the middle of the night trying to arrest a man and started beating him up, but the man, trying to escape, jumped in the river (la Seine). One of the police officer then shouted racial slurs at the man (“bicot” which is a racist term refering to a North-African), another one said “he should’ve hanged a cannonball to his foot so he’d drown” while their other colleagues stood by and laughed.
If a passerby hadn’t filmed the scene discretely and the video hadn’t been posted on social media, we would’ve never known it had happened.
But French lawmakers are trying to pass a law making it illegal to film police brutality. Since protests are set to start again at the end of the coronavirus crisis, we need to make it clear to the government that we will not stand by while they enact a law aimed at hiding the brutality of the police force. Please help us by signing this petition and sharing it if you can.
A white: but saying Asians are naturally smart is POSITIVE discrimination:)))
Me: The model minority myth was invented by whites as a tool of antiblackness to create divisions between communities of color and prove that ‘anyone can succeed in America if they just TRY hard enough!!1!’ thereby implying that antiblackness is black ppl’s own fault for not TRYING enough. Additionally, it relies on false interpretations of data and hurts the opportunities of all Asians, particularly less privileged ones, and dehumanizes Asians by furthering stereotypes of us as some kind of innately robot-like monolithic-minded hive, devalues our individual accomplishments and uses us as a tool to further antiblackness
People forget that the modern day policing system in United States derived from Slave patrols and Night Watchers in the South. These Slave Patrols and Night Watchers were primarily designed to control the behaviors of Afrikans in Amerika.
I haven’t seen anyone talking about the Statue of Liberty protester
The lady who climbed the Statue of Liberty on July 4th was Congolese immigrant and activist Therese Patricia Okoumou
She was protesting ICE, and she’s quite plainly an icon for doing this.
She’s being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in NYC, however Rise and Resist—her affiliate organization has her a lawyer and is working with her.
when men hate women, they want to rape, hurt, control, abuse, humiliate, demean, dehumanize, and kill us
when women hate men, we want men to leave us alone, we don’t want to go near men, we don’t want to interact with them at all
misogyny is inherently a violence of destroying boundaries. women’s responding anger is a reaction to boundary violation. it is the subsequent defense of boundaries, of building them to be stronger, harder to break down
