I had such a nice eclipse day! Warm weather and crystal clear sky. Where I am in Maine was about 99% totality without needing to go anywhere, though I can see why people travel because that 1% of sunlight was still extremely bright. But the neighborhood was totally silent and it grew eerily dim. None of my pictures are any good but that's okay, I'm glad for the experience :)

In your experience what are the best social media websites for promoting your art? Outside of creating your own website or twitter.😅 I really want to create another social media account specifically for my artwork but I don’t know where to go. I can’t think of any art specific websites, in the same vein as deviantart. And I don’t wanna return there🙅‍♀️

Thank you for your confidence in me but I am probably the wrong person to ask! My art isn't particularly well promoted and social media has not been particularly helpful.

Instagram still seems to be the go-to place. Artists are there to connect with, and collectors are there scrolling, it's just reaching them is the hard part. I feel better about my inability to figure out the algorithm because it seems no one really can anymore. If you like making reels maybe you'll do well.

Threads is posting into a void but at least there aren't ads (yet) and it's easy to tweak the algorithm to have an exclusively art themed feed. It would be the closest to the xitter experience, especially if you like the socializing part of social media. Will it lead to sales? Commissions? Probably not for me but who knows.

Only art exclusive space I can think of would be Behance, which isn't quite "social" as far as I define it, but a portfolio site run by Adobe. It alleges to be a place that connects artists with clients, for things like illustration, graphic design, etc. (As in, apparently industry professionals browse the site and contact artists. I've never used it though.)

EDIT: it looks like scams may be common on Behance. I never personally joined because I loathe Adobe and refuse to use their products on principle, but I didn't know about the fake commission issues until I searched reddit. So watch out.

Every once in a while this starts getting notes again and I go yeah... those are some nice designs... And then I don't do anything else with them. But I have the vector files somewhere so it's okay, they'll keep! 👾
