“Most teachers say I have messy handwriting but I’m just trying to write quickly so I can get it over with.  The assignments don’t make sense.  I’m not sure why our teacher is always saying ‘write about this’ or ‘write about that.’  If I decide to be an author, I’m not going to write about other people’s books or the play we just saw on a field trip.  I’m going to write about monsters.”

‘Power: The illusion of control’
Crime, murder, rape, fraud and deceit are all ways of communicating via control, more importantly the illusion of control. The immense need for the human mind to be in complete control and the power that it brings has been perilous.
Why do we do that? Why do we, as seemingly rational, well-intentioned people go around deluding ourselves on a regular basis? Why is it so important to us that we need to be in control? Is it because we feel the need to connect with one another?
Not just the ones that are seeking to obtain power/control or in psychological terms control freaks.  But the general consensus is that we have a deep rooted need to be in control. This need has to be communicated which however doesn’t take the desired path.
The fact that there are numerous cases of crimes is that the person wasn’t able to communicate his desire to be in control of the situation resulting in a moment of “madness”. In reality that madness is nothing but failure of the two individuals to communicate and get through or use the mode of communication.
“…some men aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.”  ― Michael Caine
Not only are we dealing with the failure of communication but we are also facing people who commit horrific crimes because they cannot express their feelings in a way that is understood by a normal person. Perhaps these people, like the character of Joker of the Dark Knight, just feel the need to make their presence felt and as such they resort to violence for communication.
History is replete with examples of men who have made a point to stay in control. Hitler, Osama Bin laden, Saddam Hussain are notoriously known worldwide for their own methods. Their message was clear “We were, are and will always remain better than you, so beware.”
Thus we must be wary of normal people who turn out to be criminals. The notorious criminals like Jack the ripper, the Zodiac killer, Charles Shobraj and Surinder Kohli communicated through the various instruments of murder because that was the only way they felt they could control the receiver.
Is it just psychopath’s that are in the need to communicate through establishing control? No, it is in the very nature of human beings to relish power and control that it brings. This is particularly true when the person in power knows their true worth. In silence they communicate.
Great men and women like Barack Obama, Steve Jobs, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Indira Gandhi, Margaret thatcher, and the 14 Dalai Lama all have had a certain aura. This Charisma grants them the power to communicate without saying anything.  The need to become like this has been rooted to our minds and we consistently try to achieve this mode of communication. But these are the rare cases of power being used progressively.
“Power corrupts, Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.” So only rational human beings can avoid the pathological terror of becoming a monster.
