I want to tell a one line joke on social media about my critique group. Instagram wants me to video myself telling the joke, then add subtitles.
I want to promote the latest episode of my podcast. “New episode is out! Listen here.” Instagram wants me to post a picture of album art with alt text, add a sticker with the download link, and then add a bunch of hashtags.
A visual medium just does not work with my text and audio based content.

Wait! Ned's writing a new long fic?!
And it's great?! And it updates on Wednesdays?!
If there was a Me for You
One Piece. Zoro/Sanji soulmate AU, where they're terrible at being soulmates. The situation is so dramatic, and yet their arguing makes me laugh.
Apparently having access to someone's emotions for nineteen years does not prepare you for when your soulmate completely ignores you in a crowded, floating restaurant that looks like a fish.

Me, trying to explain Dracula Daily: So Dracula is epistolary, right?
Bae: What's that?
Me: It's written in letters.
Bae:...
Bae: Yeaaaaaah.
Bae: And words.

Still obsessed with Arthur Conan Doyle’s letter to Bram Stoker gushing about how wonderful a book Dracula is, but particularly how it makes such a good template for leaving fic comments, so I’m gonna to a BREAKDOWN:
Just say you loved reading it - “I am sure that you will not think it an impertinence if I write to tell you how very much I have enjoyed reading Dracula.”
Comment on a detail of the craft or structure that impressed you - “It is really wonderful how with so much exciting interest over so long a book there is never an anticlimax.“
Comment on how it emotionally affected you - “It holds you from the very start and grows more and more engrossing until it is quite painfully vivid.”
SHARE YOUR BLORBO FEELINGS - “The old Professor is most excellent and so are the two girls.”
Show appreciation for them as an author - “I congratulate you with all my heart for having written so fine a book.”
Next time you don’t know what to say on a fic you enjoyed, just use the ACD method~

There was a post going around about how on Twitter, artists are posting their work but making it look like a re-post of someone else's art. And those re-posts were getting more engagement than when they promoted their art themselves.
This is awful, because for professional creators, those interactions can directly affect their cash flow and livelihood.
But I was thinking about how this interacts with "don't leave unsolicited criticism ever" that you see a lot when people talk about fanfic, and "reviews are for readers" that you see when people talk about published writing. Authors should not have to see negativity, and authors should not interact with readers talking about their work.
So, yeah, I completely understand how the re-post phenomena happened.
And the wild thing is that I was going to comment something along these lines on the post I saw, which was literally begging for interaction, but then I thought, "Oh no, this might come off as disagreement." And then I came and made a new post instead of interacting with that one!
Like, yeah! This absolutely makes sense.

(click for higher quality!) draconified link concept ive been chipping away at this past week ..... here's my funny little compendium concept for him:
"A heroic spirit has taken the form of this bestial dragon. Unlike it's kin, this creature exhibits an extremely aggressive disposition. It appears highly territorial, and will relentlessly chase down those who disturb its skywide patrols - of which it seems to be endlessly searching for either a long-time vassal or foe. Unfortunately, it seems the spirit within has long since forgotten exactly who it was looking for…"

For those of you not into One Piece, let me explain a funny thing to you.
The guy who writes and draws One Piece answers letters at the end of most chapters. During one of these, someone asked, "Who's the smartest person in One Piece." This is a funny question, because pretty much every character is a fool in some way. (Like, if there's an option that's safe and likely to work, and there's an option that's exciting and chaotic, there's no way the safe option is going to happen. Everyone's an idiot, but they're all living their best lives, and good for them.)
So he says the smartest character is a guy named Benn Beckman, who is a background character, who had never had a line of dialogue, had only been named in a different question/answer section, and was on a pirate crew that we've seen like five times in the whole comic.
He was then the 6th most popular character in the first character popularity poll. That's WILD. He was above Usopp and Buggy. Our hero Benn has since dropped to #57 in the latest character poll, but keep in mind there are 100 names on the list and thousands of characters in One Piece.
This guy still has not had more than a dozen lines of dialogue. He's just in the background, and not very often.
People love this random dude.

Luffy would 100% be like, “Nami would really really really like it if you made taquitos. They’re her favorite food!” And Sanji would be like, “Taquitos it is!” and make a thousand.
(He’s not actively lying. He just got it in his head that she likes taquitos because he likes taquitos too.)
Nami would be like, “Yeah, they’re fine.” And Sanji would never know. He just keeps making taquitos. It’s Luffy’s best week ever.
