Remember on this Valentineâs Day that Kaidan Alenko won romance forever when Shepard asked him âWhat would I do without you?â and he replied âYouâll never find out.â

the healer of kirkwall
Across Thedas, if you ask about Anders, you get different opinions, and different sets of names, depending on who you ask.
If you go to Kirkwall â if you go to where it all started â it depends on where you ask.
If you ask in Hightown, you get the nobleâs view, the clean, Chantry-sanctioned one â monster, canât be forgiven, etc., etc., nasty fate. why not? Kirkwallâs nobility didnât have any reason to see what he fought for.
If you ask in Lowtown, youâll hear opinions ranging from moderate to positive. Anders was well-liked; he had friends at the Hanged Man and among ex-patients, and everyone knew his reputation as a healer. Everyone saw him agonizing over his writing, working himself to the bone on top of exhausting himself at the clinic, trying to get something to change, trying to get someone to listen. Increasing Templar authority made things worse for everyone outside Hightown â they all knew Anders was trying to fix it. Lowtown saw the most destruction at the hands of Templars, raging across the city on their way to slaughter everyone in the Gallows â thereâs no love for the Order there, and plenty for Anders.
Darktown will give you the quickest, fiercest defense of Anders youâll find anywhere in Thedas, outside his close friends. Anders helped people when no one else did. Anders helped people no one would even look at, and he never once asked for recompense. Everything about Lowtown applies ten times as strongly in Darktown â Anders was theirs, their people, the Healer of Darktown. Anders didnât run the clinic by himself: Anders had volunteers, donations, from people who had almost nothing to give.
Darktown folk, before Hawke, before anyone else, made sure Anders ate and rested and took care of himself. They saw, firsthand, day after day, for years, the hope and energy and time and life that Anders poured into keeping their people alive and healthy. Everyone has a sibling, parent, cousin, friend who would be dead if not for Andersâs help. Everyone in Darktown knew â you get hurt, you get sick, you need shelter, you look for the lit lantern. Thereâs a healer there whoâll do everything in his power to make sure you come out okay, and heâll never put you in debt.
So when Kirkwall shook and the Chantry blew? The people of Darktown scoffed and spat, good riddance; the braver ones headed uptown to see if they could scavenge any of that shiny gilt or marble. What had the Chantry ever done for them? And when they found out it was Anders, they nodded, sad â he was such a kind man and he gave so much for life, and it must have been a dreadful thing, to push a healer to kill. They saw him burn himself out for peace. They know nothing less than absolute necessity would push him to violence.
The songs that spread across Thedas about Anders â those were written and spread by Ferelden refugees going home, by others scattering from Kirkwall in the chaos. The breaker of Circles and the Chantryâs corruption; the one who stood up when the city could take no more. The Healer of Kirkwall.

hey unfun fact when you insist that a canon bi character is homosexual thatâs just biphobia. like. that is literally what biphobia is. âbut heâs homosexual to meâ no. if the character is bisexual in the fucking canon and you repeatedly insist they are homosexual, you are not clever or inventing a hot take, you are literally just participating in the exact same tired old sad biphobic bullshit that we wanted these canons to escape from. you are the problem. fucking stop.
